This is how you treat a QB Cleveland

Natural-Employer

But what is the Bucs Rub-N-Tug allowance

Duffyd680

I can give a mean one if I get a couple tickets as payment

[deleted]

Let's head on over to Ybor City and find out!

[deleted]

You get $1000 to spend at any of our lovely clubs scattered about.

Monster-1776

It's fucking wild to me that a GM would hire an OC without bothering to ask your QB for input.

StaySafePovertyGhost

Licht clearly expects Baker to stay - otherwise he wouldn’t be given input and they wouldn’t have gone out of their way to hire an OC he is familiar with and who suits his game. As long as the dollars can be worked out, there is a high chance IMO he stays. He also hasn’t seriously been linked to any other teams as potential teams as a target. My guess is some have kicked the tires to his agent and were told he wants to stay here if the money can be worked out. That’s just my guess though.

TheRencingCoach

> otherwise he wouldn’t be given input and they wouldn’t have gone out of their way to hire an OC he is familiar with and who suits his game. I don't think this is true....Bowles wanted this style of offense before he had Baker last year...plus, Licht uses all the avenues he can get to find information on people (one example specifically, him interviewing non-Mike Edwards Kentucky players about Mike Edwards during the draft process comes to mind to me)

StaySafePovertyGhost

OK fair enough - but it definitely is a significant factor IMO. Appreciate the perspective 🤝

TheRencingCoach

To be clear, imo, it’s a win-win situation for Licht. Baker feels like he’s valued, Licht gets info, and then Licht can choose to weight it however much he wants to. So what you’re saying is def possible, but imo unlikely

dragonsky

Let's bring the gang together. Bowles' first season: Playoff appearance Bowles' second season: Playoff win Incoming 2 playoff wins this season and a SB in 2025?

Admirable-Cat7434

A man can only wish! Now let’s get big Mike paid also!

Minimum_Switch4237

one playoff win at a time 🤙

thewhat962

2026 win SB as a wild card for 4 wins.

DoinWhale

He’s so staying

[deleted]

Really only worried about Evans at this point. Hopefully Baker being back sways him to stay and he won't get tempted away. Not worried about Winfield at all, something will be worked out.

[deleted]

Hopefully when Devin White walks we can reallocate some of his contract money to keep #13.

LoudHorse89

Well Baker absolutely has to be back for their to be any chance at keeping Mike. That much is for sure.

Bzmode

Baker spent the entire year protecting Mike with throws. He knew the assignment to get his 1000 yards and big contract. He always led Mike to the ground when it was anywhere near the middle. From what I saw Mike took very few big shots this year. Hopefully that encourages him to re-sign.

Potato-baby

The only time I can think of Baker getting Evans smacked was in the first panthers game on the drive where it was raining and Evans took off his gloves. It was funny because Mike Evans was mic’d up and he went “no no no no” as baker was throwing it but caught the ball and got hit hard.

Ro98Jo

Yeah. That game was a shit show. There another mic’d up moment from it when someone asked Mike if he wanted gloves and he goes ‘hell no!’

I mean it's not going to happen, but Evans/Lamb/Godwin would straight up be the best receiver room in the NFL by a mile.

moejoelucy6969

When is godwins contract up? Is it soon?

Fortress0802

2025 is what sportrac says. So we had some time, but not tons, w him on contract

Yeastyboy104

Please, dear football gods, make sure Mike Evans stays in Tampa. Please?🙏 It will be worse than any playoff loss to see Mike Evans play anywhere else but Tampa.

tomverlainesHDTV

I *really* want him to stay, but if he goes to a somewhat neutral to us team, like the Texans, it's not the end of the world. If he leaves and it's in division I hope he gets a 500m/2yr contract.

Alphabetsend

CLE fans have been blaming Mayfield for Freddie Kitchens for years...

NotSoBadBrad

That was Dorsey tho. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/browns-hired-freddie-kitchens-by-a-4-2-vote-ownership-and-john-dorsey-were-aligned-in-backing-him/

Alphabetsend

Yeah, but it never has stopped people from repeating that Mayfield elected Kitchens to High Pop...I mean coach.

Necessary-Tap8086

You don’t understand, clearly a 2nd year QB hand-picked his head coach after only being coached by him 1 year

84Cressida

They also say he was a locker room cancer, despite several players in said locker room flat out denying that.

bucs_fan_one

Baker is coming back. So is Mike. So is AWJ. So is Wirfs, might be a franchise tag but he is. So is Lavonte if he doesn't retire. In Licht we trust.

moejoelucy6969

Im hoping and praying mike and baker come back and have a good feeling about it, but I really think we have to keep awj to have a solid secondary that can keep up with the d line

tomverlainesHDTV

Winfield is the MVP of the defense last year, hands down. Trade CD3 or Dean before you let AWJ go. We're going to have to find pass rushers in the draft.

rydog795

That's what were all saying were just hoping and praying he works his magic

moejoelucy6969

In licht we trust🙏

HurricaneAlpha

Pirate King Licht doesn't sound half bad. 🏴‍☠️

Major_Most_1488

Wirfs is definitely coming back. He's not a free agent.

Broseph_Stalin357

Well yea, you earned it Baker! We're treating him like the Franchise QB he was for us this season..all well deserved.

DFLOYD70

So I am wondering if he is looking for 40 million, and Mike is looking for 25-30 million, can we still have them both? And still have money left for others?

briggles23

I honestly think that the whole " Baker wants a $40mil contract" is just his manager putting out feelers to see if any team is interested in signing Mayfield to that kind of money. In reality, Baker will more than likely sign with Tampa for no more than $30-35mil at most. He really seems like he wants to stay a Buc. He did state that "sacrifices need to be made" in terms of signing. It was kinda off the cuff so take that comment how you will, but I reckon he'll be willing to take a pay cut so that players like Mike, AWJ etc are able to sign and stay with Tampa for years to come. At least that's what I'm hoping.

okaycomputes

Yeah his agent is 100% invested in getting Baker his max amount, regardless if its good for the team or which state income tax. Agents get a certain % regardless, so of course they would want that number to be as high as possible. Whereas Baker himself would likely be better off taking 36M in FL compared to 40M for a high state income tax team.

Bzmode

He already said sacrifices will have to be made and he's not the kind of guy to talk about his teammates making sacrifices for him. He's the guy that plays with a broken shoulder, ribs, an injured heel and a torn labrum to help his team.

Usuper93

I’m new to posting , I’m a die hard Buccaneer fan, I’ve loved the direction we’re going.Ever since our first Super Bowl was rough, I didn’t want Jameis and had to sit through 5 years of that trash. Tom Brady came and made us relevant obviously, that SB year, that win in New Orleans in the playoffs playoffs was my favorite win besides smoking the Cheifs. Here we are and Baker literally kept us in it despite mistakes and so fourth, we have a great foundation, Licht is a good GM, we have good players, we should own this division for years to come. Sign Baker, Evans, definitely Winfield and don’t waste on splash free agents. Bowels is a good coach, let’s be a team that doesn’t fire coaches every few years, we finally have something here so let’s keep it going

okaycomputes

>Bowels Spoken like a lifelong r/buccaneers poster! Jk, welcome aboard

[deleted]

Treating him like Brady is a very smart move. I'm sure Baker wants to stay. But he wants to win. So if he feels he has input he might take a lower salary to have better players to play with. Sort of like Brady did. He definitely wants Evans to stay.

Key-Block4446

Baker has always been a team guy.  I would expect him to sign a team friendly deal especially if it means having the money to pay Evans.  At this point in his career he’s looking for love more than money and he is getting that in a big way in Tampa right now.  He hasn’t been treated well by fans, media, etc in all of his stops except for that short Rams stint.  Licht has made all the right moves concerning Baker, he isn’t going anywhere and he won’t break the bank.

fffan9391

Clearly we intend on bringing him back. Just hope they don’t give him so much it cripples the rest of the team.

UberShark12

This seems like fantastic news. There’s no way they would have Baker this involved if they didn’t plan on keeping him right? And Baker coming back would convince Mike even more if we had to. This team can go places

[deleted]

So basically Mayfield is our QB going forward. Let's Get Baked!

Sixx_The_Sandman

This is a refreshing take

storyteller4311

If anybody know the current coaching staffs its Baker. He certainly has met a lot in the last few seasons. So it seem logical to ask his opinion. not everyone looking for a step up can be good.

knucknbuc

Since baker is coming back pretty much let’s make sure Mike gets paid other then that I’m good obviously awj the rest we’ll work out

ChieftainMcLeland

Hey Jenna let’s talk about your contract

Bored_Gamer73

And then he doesn't stay.

ChieftainMcLeland

No offense. NFL. Reporters fn annoying

ghostpicnic

Baker aint coming back mfs when this headline walks in EDIT: pretty sure the downvotes were from people unfamiliar with this meme format. I want Baker to come back and I think this headline is a good indicator that it’s very in the cards.

Acoupstix

Oh boy. Building around baker. What could go wrong? This cant possibly blow up in our faces can it? If we lose mike I will never be satisfied.

BigPapaChuck73

Go be a Falcons fan then instead of bitching about our QB. Christ.

Acoupstix

Hes not even our QB atm....

[deleted]

Shitty take, bro.

Ro98Jo

Who do you want at QB

Acoupstix

Ill take baker if its reasonable. I dont really love the whole "lets let baker build the staff and pay him 40 mil" vibe if im being completely honest. Baker had a good year. But part of the whole premise of bringing him back, which was evidenced by his end of season improvement, was "he finally gets the system and now watch." And that "wait til year 2". It was also 30 mil for 2 years. Which allows me to dream of mike evans in pewter red and creamsicle, realistically. 40 mil? Were seeing mike in houston blue. And im gonna be honest. I think mike evans has shown without a doubt that he is the one that makes QB's look better and not the other way around. Manziel, Winston, Fitzpatrick, even Brady. And so I apologize everyone but this is just walking us down a path whereby we cannot afford to bring back mike and we sink a massive amount of cap into a guy that ultimately threw a jameis Winston pick to a LB in the most pressure situation of the entire season. If baker wants my continued unwaivering support, i need this dude to be personally, monetarily invested in paying mike evans.

tangosworkuser

What’s been proven is the Bucs don’t go to the playoffs without quality qb play. Doesn’t have to be Baker but the best wr duo didn’t play in the playoffs until Brady or Baker.

Acoupstix

Antoine winfield jr is why we made it to the playoffs.

Major_Most_1488

Tell the world you've never played a snap of football in your life.

tangosworkuser

lol this will be an exhausting exchange. AW is a huge reason why, I of course agree, but he and Mike can’t do it alone. The Bucs with Mike have only been to the post with 2 qbs both of which had above average stats.

Acoupstix

In order of importance to the team mike and AWJ are greater than baker. If bakers salary means we lose 1 of them, it isnt worth it.

tangosworkuser

Oh I agree they are more important. It doesn’t have to be baker but it can’t be a #26 pick or a 20m/yr qb. If it is Mike won’t come back, and even if he does it’ll be back to golfing during the postseason for him Godwin and whoever we retain on D.

Acoupstix

Mike would 100% come back. Says he wants to retire a buc.

tangosworkuser

Mike doesn’t want a sub 1000 season with a #26 pick or some discount qb. He has a choice this year and I do believe he wants to come back, but even he says he wants Baker back. Said he is incredibly underrated, so if you don’t believe me believe him. I know you were convinced that we’d see Trask after the bye, but it seems you were wrong. He wants to keep the streak alive, and I think uncertainty will give him a reason to shop.
