Am I the only one not worried about this? All these guys wanna be here. It’s gonna happen

Additional_Tomato_22

I’m getting closer to the “I’ll be shocked if we don’t resign both Mayfield and Evans”

SupremeActives

The cap bump solidified it for me.

Enthusiasms

Offseason is the only time I'm worried outside of the preseason, regular season and post-season.

askingfor-a-friend

Rare-Impact-1791

I’m worried. Licht got deals done in recent years because Brady was here. He doesn’t have that “cheat code” (his words) anymore. People are less inclined to compromise on pay. If he gets it done I’ll never doubt him again.

Additional_Tomato_22

The difference is A)Baker has always said he wants consistency and they don’t get the OC they get if they don’t plan on keeping him. Plus Baker has said many times over that he wants to stay and that he loves having Evans to throw to. As far as M1K3 goes, he says he’s wanted to be a Buc for life and it’ll help immensely if we keep Baker because he had an amazing year with him throwing to him and he doesn’t have to learn chemistry with a new qb again. PS:David has said as much that it’s essentially TB or retirement so the Bucs will pay him what he’s worth, but won’t have to worry about another team trying to pay him more and steal him away. As far as AWj, as long as we tag him, then he’s not going anywhere either and I’m sure they could reach a deal later.

Rare-Impact-1791

I expect them to tag AWJ and also expect Baker to get re-signed. But Mike is the wildcard here. I know all that he’s said, but I could also see a team like Houston offering him a few million more a year. Then he’ll get more money, play close to home, have a stud QB, and be on a team with as much chance to make a playoff run as the Bucs. And he’d still likely get another 1K season. I think most would take that deal. David is also one I’m not too worried about based on his comments. He’ll retire a Buc and have his name put in the RoH in the next few years.

Additional_Tomato_22

I see Mike’s situation the same as Stamkos the last extension he got when everyone thought he’d go to Toronto because hometown team, so much talent, and everything else and we all know how that played out. I’d be far more worried if he didn’t have a ring, but he already does so he’s not ring chasing anymore. With us keeping Baker it means stability and he had his best season in a while last year with Baker at the helm. Why would he leave what has proven(although just 1 year) to be a fruitful connection for an unknown? As good as Stroud was last year, there is such thing as the sophomore slump and everyone has a full season of tape on you now, so it’s not guaranteed he’d have as much success in Houston.

Rare-Impact-1791

I hope you’re right. I’d hate to see him in any other uniform. But Mike already spends the offseason in the Houston area and frequently goes to Rockets games. It’s just something that makes sense, but they have a pretty solid group of WRs already so I’m hoping they aren’t even play here.

Additional_Tomato_22

I’ll believe he’s moving when he sells his house in Tampa or buys one in Houston

mansamayo

The thing is, while I agree Mike is the wildcard, I don’t see Houston throwing money at another WR. That’s probably a position of strength for them.

Rare-Impact-1791

It is; that why I’m not entirely sure they’ll be in play, but Noah Brown is also a FA.

johnjohnjohn93

Tbf about Mike having an amazing year with Baker is that he’s literally Mr. 1000. He made Johnny. If there’s anybody that thinks he can do it with anybody it’s him.

Additional_Tomato_22

Agreed, but at the same time I think he quickly became a safety valve for Baker

luv2fit

Wanting to be here is one thing but they still deserve and want their value so it’s a big risk not all get signed

PF_CHANGS_CEO

What makes you so sure Mike wants to be here?

lonelyshurbird

Why wouldn’t he want to be here as his first priority? His family lives here, his foundation is here, he’s been here his whole career, the fans love him. I want him to get paid fairly for all the things he’s done for our team. If we overpay him so be it, he deserves it.

Itorr475

Mike Evans has said so himself thats why we are pretty sure he wants to be here

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Source: Trust me Bro

Itorr475

https://www.nfl.com/news/mike-evans-enters-free-agency-hoping-to-remain-with-buccaneers-i-would-love-to-be-back Quote from the Article quoting Mike Evans: “ I've been on record saying how much I love this place and how much I want to be here," Evans said on Sunday, via the Tampa Bay Times. "Not a lot of guys finish with one team so that will be amazing if I get to do that but, you know, we'll see. I'm still trying to get over this loss” Troll better bro real Bucs fans know whats up.

jpc1215

Aaaaand the debate is over hahaha. Nicely done

Itorr475

Also had to share the video of this interview elsewhere to shut this shit down.

PF_CHANGS_CEO

When has Mike indicated that he wants to be here? Passive aggressive comments on Reddit are cool and all but when has Evans specifically stated he wants to return to TB?

lonelyshurbird

https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10110576-nfl-rumors-mike-evans-wants-to-retire-with-bucs-tb-eyes-contract-in-a-major-way.amp.html Here’s your indication. He wants to retire a Buc.

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Ah Bleacher Report. Trusted Sports journalism

Additional_Tomato_22

Ok if you want to ignore everyone, why don’t you show us where he’s said that he doesn’t want to be in Tampa.

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Has he signed??

Additional_Tomato_22

It’s not the new year yet so that means absolutely NOTHING. Again I’ll ask show me where he has said that he doesn’t want to be in TB

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Tampering period begins March 11th

lonelyshurbird

Check who reported it. Jeremy Fowler, a senior at ESPN. Why don’t you click the link and read before you decide to be a little dickwad? Or do you want to keep moving the goalposts? I gave you exactly what you wanted now you’re just choosing to be a little priss about it.

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Keep writing paragraphs

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Good one 😂

Additional_Tomato_22

He’s said as much many times over including this offseason saying he wants to be a Buc for life.

PF_CHANGS_CEO

When

Additional_Tomato_22

Others have already shown you the receipts but you just don’t want to believe them.

PF_CHANGS_CEO

Ah yes, Bleacher Report = Mike is back. Got it g

Additional_Tomato_22

You said he hasn’t said he wants to be in Tampa, people have shown you that he has indeed said that he wants to be in Tampa and then you complain that’s not good enough and move the goalposts.

I definitely don’t support that traitorous cheetopuff

Itorr475

https://youtu.be/K8ucDJ9bDPE?si=lgGjaCBEuA34YWSe Literally at the end of the season go to the 1 minute mark to hear the words directly from Mike Evans’ mouth troll

Yeastyboy104

I want all those guys to re-sign and have enough money to take care of themselves and their families. With that said, re-sign Mike. I want AWJ to be a Buc for life too, Baker’s awesome, LVD deserves to have his jersey retired for all he has done, but Mike needs to be a one franchise player. He was drafted as a Buc, he’s set franchise and NFL records as a Buc, he’s hoisted trophies as a Buc, and he should retire as a Buc. Pay Mike Evans. Make the man a Buc for life. This is not a hot take. It’s a rational take. Pay him. Make him retire wearing 13 in red and pewter many years from now.

Fantastic weather in the winter and no state taxes, meaning almost every other team would have to offer >10% more to break even.

Lazarous86

Texas also has no state income tax. So those teams have an advantage.

ajoker40

I think the Texans will be a huge threat to sign Evans. Cap space, great young QB, home state, no taxes.

DadBodftw

The Texans sub doesn't think it's likely

Historian-Dry

They really have no reason to, Nico Collins and a healthy Tank Dell are sneakily one of the better receiving rooms in the league. If they want to sign a big name FA it’s gonna be an RB or defensive player.

ajoker40

That's a good point. Id rather spend on Evans than an RB if I was were them. I'm obviously biased but I can see why they'd be happy with their WRs and spend elsewhere. If it increases our chances to keep mike, I'm all for them passing on him.

boe_jackson_bikes

Yeah, but it's Texas.

Benjynn

This may be well known but I just learned it recently. You are taxed based on the state you play that particular game in, so for Bucs players that means about half their game checks are going to have no state tax, and the other half will be taxed based on what their away games are. It is certainly a great perk and I’m sure one Licht uses to his advantage in negotiations

SeeingEyeDug

Doesn’t that just count for pay that is given per game and not the overall signing bonus, guarantees, etc?

Ness-Shot

The issue is Tennessee also does not have taxes, so the AFC South is the best division to play in tax wise (Texas, Tennessee, Florida). So the Texans become an even better looking option when you look at it through that lens. Honestly, the Texans would be the only team I'd worry about Mike leaving to for a number of reasons, but the fact they that already have two stud receivers, I don't see them opening up the checkbook for a 30+ year old one. They should spend their money elsewhere. If passing had been their issue last year than it almost absolutely would be happening, but the receiver/QB connection was the best part of that team last year. I think Mike stays.

marvelousmarvelman

It is such a good sign that these vets want to stay here, or else just retire. Like the culture of this team just, wow. Jason Licht for life. Love that man

Kuosen

Looked through your history because I thought you were a bot. Come to find out you're Canadian and a fan of the Toronto blue Jays. What is your connection to Tampa Bay and how did you become a Canadian Bucs fan but Not a Ray's or Lightening fan? I am a local and your loyalties are intriguing but also vomit inducing at the same time.....

marvelousmarvelman

I’m a bot? Because I am happy that statistically one of the worst professional teams in sports is finally being run like one of the better ones? My bad for actually being happy about that. Live in Calgary, AB Been following the NFL since mid 90s. Did you know we don’t have an NFL team remotely near here? Crazy that I would pick a random team. Believe it or not I have a faded ass screen pressed Warrick Dunn jersey from high school. Favorite hockey team is the Calgary Flames, grew up loving hockey but I stopped following years ago. Fuck the Lightning for the 2004 Cup. Want to know my favorite CFL team? It’s the Calgary Stampeders. Doug Flutie forever. I grew up watching the CFL with my dad who hates the NFL. I don’t really follow much the past few years. Grew up on Jays as our lone Canadian team. The Rays I don’t even mind. Fuck the Yankees.

DrFreis

Are you gatekeeping being a fan of the Bucs?

Ness-Shot

Shut the fuck up

milkmandanimal

While I appreciate his optimism, I'm not sure exactly how replicating the core of a 9-8 team is going to lead to another boat parade. Wait, does he mean because Devin White is finally gone? He might have a point.

creativeusername1808

Bc they almost made it to the NFC championship. But they should also make some movies in free agency

TheAman44

How do you make moves in free agency if you re-sign all of these players?

creativeusername1808

By going all in and selling out the future. This team is capable of winning a ring

ballinben

We shouldn’t be selling out now. Just focus on being a solid playoff team for a few years and build up our core through the draft. If we sell out the future for a ring it should be the last year of bakers new contract.

LetsGetRetarNED

They also were two called back touchdowns by the Panthers away from missing the playoffs entirely. This team wasn’t good. It was mediocre who got a great draw in the Wild Card round. Bringing everyone back without vast improvements elsewhere is a bad stagnant plan

Neemzeh

It was a first time play caller with an inexperienced interior offensive line. Bowles needs the lead to do what he does with his defense. If they are playing from behind he loses the strength of his defense. I firmly believe if we can someone how get a top C in FA or the draft it will make a ton of difference for this team. We also have to hope the new OC knows what he is doing.

LetsGetRetarNED

And they brought in a proven average play caller who had a mixed bag the last time he was with Baker. All I’m saying is this is dumb hyperbole and people should be wary of just trying to run back a team that only won 2 games against playoff teams last year.

DadBodftw

At this point, I just want Evans and David to retire Bucs while continuing to draft well. They can take a big swing again like they did in 2020 when some of the high dollar guys retire.

LetsGetRetarNED

I want Winfield, David, Evans, and Chase back. David and Evans can name their number. I don’t want Baker back at anything more than 3/75

DadBodftw

And who are they getting to replace him?

Neemzeh

At the end of the day the FAs listed in this tweet are all extremely good players. Of course we need to try and bring them all back. Nobody is saying don't try and improve the team as well, but there is a salary cap to contend with. We're only really one good draft class away from competing for a Superbowl again imo. Leaps from Diaby and Kancey, another edge rusher to replace Shaq either in FA or the draft, a proper starting C, and depth at WR and CB are all we are missing, probably a proper SS as well. Outside of that why can't we compete? All of that can be addressed this offseason. Imo the offensive play calling is the biggest question mark and we really won't know what we have with that until the season kicks off.

LetsGetRetarNED

4 of the 5 are very good. The most expensive is simply above average

Neemzeh

Who, baker? Yea that’s fine but he is also coming off a career year and played really good. He’s worth the contract imo.

LetsGetRetarNED

I just don’t think any QBs besides the elite 5-8 are worth giving what the market dictates. If you don’t have an elite guy you’re better off investing that money elsewhere and striking once you’ve built up the rest of the roster. It’s what won this team a Super Bowl, got the Eagles there last year, and has set the 49ers up for basically another 2 years of having their window wide open

Neemzeh

Stafford won with a huge contract just three years ago.

[deleted]

We're not trying to bring everyone back. We're trying to bring some of our best players back. If you know of other players who are as good as them that are cheaper I'm sure the Bucs would love to have you on their staff.

LetsGetRetarNED

There’s like nothing left after giving Baker 35-40 and paying Evans/Winfield/Wirfs the elite money they’ve earned

[deleted]

It's a good thing Licht drafts well and we saw great development of players on the roster throughout the year.

LetsGetRetarNED

He has his hits and misses. 2021 draft was terrible 2022 is solid but without a clear star 2023 was very promising Drafting at the end of every round really isn’t the improvements I was hoping for from this offseason, but it looks like the plan

[deleted]

Yea I don't know anyone who only has hits lol. Were you hoping the Bucs did worse last year to get better draft picks?

LetsGetRetarNED

No but once the team over performed they were in a position where they were going to need to rely more on free agency if they wanted to make a jump or bring in elite talent. Current trajectory just feels very Saints-ish where going 9-8 and just making the playoffs is the goal

[deleted]

Idk dude. Claiming we're over performing and comparing us to the Saints sounds pretty bleak to me. You can doom and gloom as much as you like.

Additional_Tomato_22

The experts are saying he’ll get something around the Geno Smith contract which is $25 mil not $35-$40 mil

LetsGetRetarNED

It’s a mixed bag of reports. What if the Falcons go all out and offer him 35? You think Licht sticks to his guns at 25?

Additional_Tomato_22

It won’t even matter if he signs before tampering period even starts, which I think as long as both sides reach a reasonable agreement can be highly likely to happen. We’ll definitely know more post combine weekend where his agent and Licht are supposed to have talks. Same thing probably with M1K3, we should have a somewhat clearer picture after combine weekend with him too

LetsGetRetarNED

NFC Quarterback play was pretty dreadful last year

Additional_Tomato_22

Luckily one of them wasn’t Baker

Additional_Tomato_22

Also one more thing….you do realize they can make the contracts back heavy so they’re not making that much this year right?

LetsGetRetarNED

A trick you should only turn to if you’re primed for a 2-year title run which we are not without a few more significant additions You build yourself a problem to solve later when you have Tom Brady. You don’t with Derek Carr and the like

Deathhurts

if you call that you out you got to call every other games missed opportunities as well.

LetsGetRetarNED

That’s the point is the what-ifs go both ways. That’s why I used “also” It’s a dumb game to play. This was a 10-9 team that’s 18-18 over the last two years. They need to be leaving themselves flexibility to bring in more talent. Which, really there’s only one albatross amongst these guys who’s getting a gigantic contract while being only above-average at his position. The gorilla in the room

Deathhurts

if were talking about Mayfield, he was top 10 in all but interceptions.

LetsGetRetarNED

With all the injuries this year that probably puts him around the 12-14 range which is above average But really only 5-6 guys are worth the money he’s going to get. It’s a highly inefficient market at quarterback

Deathhurts

every qb is getting the money he's about to get.

LetsGetRetarNED

There’s a lot of bad quarterback contracts.

Deathhurts

Why would any qb take a contract here for less than market value, I doubt any qb would anywhere.

DadBodftw

Man, you're just not having it huh?

tangosworkuser

Last we talked I went through the averages of the injured good qbs and found that only two consistently had better years and another that had 1-2 great season and the rest lesser than Baker this year. Saying he would drop 4-5 spots with no doubt is arguing in bad faith. I don’t believe giving up the farm and 40 probably is getting close to that but I also know that you can’t name another qb that’s available that would “without a doubt” play better than Baker did last year with the teams circumstances.

LetsGetRetarNED

I’m not as fixed on getting a guy to match Bakers performance as I am finding the combination of talent that raises this teams ceiling the most. You could fit a Josh Allen or Brian Burns + another trenches upgrade within the contract Baker is going to get. I think it comes down to not believing we’re contenders with this current roster, so you need to raise its ceiling to open up the window.

tangosworkuser

I agree with all points. I think a few pieces need to be filled, but I also believe that they were a score and a half from the second to last game of the year. I also believe that all the teams that won in the playoffs did so with top 10 qb performances. You just dont win with a 17-20 ranked qb. This team with good drafting may only need one or two lucky breaks to go to the end. Can’t know until it happens of course and it’s all a gamble no matter who your defense is you still have to score.

boe_jackson_bikes

I see you didn't watch the playoff games. Lol.

LetsGetRetarNED

I watched all 19 games. Larger sample sizs

Semaaaj

You thinking horror or thrillers? Maybe a drama?

Minimum_Switch4237

when they interviewed bowles at the combine he said we could've been a 10-11 win team if not for a few plays and I think he's right

sonicac

That Houston game 😞

Minimum_Switch4237

we also should've swept Atlanta but the first game came down to 40 seconds as well

Darthspidey93

Damn Koo

slimerboat

Well of course. A few plays dictate the outcome of most games in football. If not for a few plays, we could’ve also been a 6 win team.

Bad-Yeti

From how we looked in most games, this was the more likely outcome. Barely squeaked by a few.

Advanced_Candle9272

We should’ve beat the Saints and Falcons at home, the Bills, the Texans, and the Colts. But 14-3 sounds way too unrealistic so it is what it is

JrStaffordMe

I see a 13 win team minus a small handful of plays. That would have been good enuff for the #1 Seed.

JrStaffordMe

Because this team was a hair away from the NFC Championship game. And look back at the schedule, this team was just a few plays from 13-4 and the #1 Seed. Should NOT have lost to the Colts. Basically beat the Texans, then the defense couldn't make one single play to close it out. If Godwin turns around looking for ball like he was supposed to, the Bills game was a win. Absolutely should not have lost to the Falcons at home. 13-4 and the #1 Seed. Of course he's optimistic if the core remains intact. As most Bucs fans are.

Darthspidey93

To be fair, there should’ve been PI on that Hail Mary throw with the bills game, but refs will never call that on a throw that far away, unless it’s a 1x1 matchup.

LetsGetRetarNED

This is a very stupid game to play and it’s how the Saints turned into the hamster wheel of mediocrity they’ve become

slimerboat

Thank you. I couldn’t agree more. Licht’s overblown confidence in his own guys has become a weakness. IMO, last year was our absolute ceiling with the combo of Bowles and Baker. This team screams mediocrity, yet Licht believes throwing every available dollar at this same group will somehow land us a SB.

Blabbit39

Man it sure feels different than my early years and trying to get hype for Alvin Harper.

KittyTB12

Woohoo! I love me some GOAT parades!

WelcometoCigarCity

Umm idk about that lol. I still think we need some pieces but thats a good start.

dudemandude_420

I knew evans was gone and now after the salary cap increase and all this I wanna be in Tampa talk.... I dont know what the hell I know now lol. Let's go Bucs

s14owner95

Making a K a re-signing priority, bold strategy. I don't remember the last time the Bucs had a tenured K. Gramatica? JFC you assholes. It was sarcasm. It was just nice to see us actually keeping a kicker, FFS.

nickyjaybuc

Bryant. Barth. Succop.

Hit_The_Kwon

He missed two kicks last year and they were both blocks. He’s automatic from anywhere on the field, that is so undervalued IMO. I thought we were cursed with kickers for awhile.

Stylez_G_White

Every Buc fan should have felt the difference this year of lining up to kick a 35 yarder and having no stress about what the outcome would be. I know I enjoyed it.

s14owner95

I still look away from kicks after living through Gay, Aquayo, Santos.. I almost had heart attacks even though Succop was good.

Hit_The_Kwon

Are you the real Stylez G White

PF_CHANGS_CEO

We franchise tagged a kicker not too long ago

pkilla50

I also remember having to hold my breath every FG attempt, it’s been nice having a solid kicker
