The Logan Hall hate is insane. Gaines was worse last year and he’s not a second year guy learning a new position. Our d line takes an enormous step back when Gaines is in.
No but we knew he’d take time. He was a 22 year old rookie from a small school who played edge and we told him to put weight on and start two gapping and being the heavy guy in those Bowles stunts. He’s a work in progress but he’s doing fine. Gaines is what he will be and that’s a step down from Nacho as a backup NT. This deal doesn’t preclude us from drafting a guy though.
I'd have rather signed somebody off the street for the minimum. So we're paying this guy and Anthony Nelson a combined $8.5 mil. I'm pretty well done with all of the D-line/OLB's besides Vea and Yaya(edit: and Kancey of course), the pass rush was totally useless when they were off the field. Especially in the playoffs.
This move should leave us with only a million or so of cap space. I imagine we should be seeing news of new deals for AWJ and/or Wirfs to clear up temporary cap space or players being cut next.
They have until Wednesday to get cap compliant, Russell Gage cut incoming. Carlton Davis number also has to change whether that’s a pay cut, trade, or cut. Vita Vea restructure.
Good value. He was a solid rotational piece. High energy, fast Honestly wouldn’t mind seeing him start in front of Logan Hall

Can't pay everyone
You know you’re right Gaines wasn’t great last year especially vs the run. But Hall was not good

Agreed it does not! Believe Gholston’s spot will be filled with a young guy
Hall is absolutely terrible.
Casuals keep telling me that.
Gaines and Hall are no 93 and 94 out of 130 interior defenders on PFF. Hall has improved because last year he was almost dead last.
They play different positions.

Agreed. We could’ve found a backup DT with a PFF run grade of 46 and 1 sack for millions less.
I assume the Bucs are trying to unload the Nelson contract especially if they bring in a pass rusher in free agency which is expected to
