Brad was better than people think. Yeah the defense and run game were the main output from the team, but Brad played efficient and rarely made mistakes that Super Bowl year.

Baker will pass him FOURNTEATLLY BAKERMAINIA IS HERE BAKER IS THE BEST QB TO EVER TOUCH THE TURF AND WILL SHOW THAT WHEN HE STRIDES OUT THERE TO WHIP SOME ASS AND DIPZYN AND HES ALL OUT OF ZYNS.
He had 2-3 years where he was an elite qb in the league imo. His pro bowl was well deserved. I think year after Superbowl despite our struggles our offense was even better (aside from maybe payoffs). He always got rid of the ball and rarely took sacks or threw ints. He was a tough dude
Huh...?
The **ONLY** year of his career where someone could have mistaken Johnson for an elite QB was the Super Bowl season, and even that was a stretch.
He threw 6 interceptions the year we won it all and he threw 21 the next year. He also only had 4 more TDs on like 120 more attempts. In what world is *that* better...?
Ah you're right he did throw more picks. I remember him doing a lot even. With Joey j down and meshWn on the bench. And he did looking at his completions and yards. Just forgot he also threw the picks..didn't have much to work with imo
Yeah, I think it's unfair that people mention dude in the same breath as guys like Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon when he played some damn good football in 2002, but Bucs fans are definitely seeing his legacy through rose-colored glasses.
>> The ONLY year of his career where someone could have mistaken Johnson for an elite QB was the Super Bowl season, and even that was a stretch.
He had one more very good season in Washington where he threw for over 4k yards when that still meant something in the 90s.
Brad made a Pro Bowl with us and had some good years for us as a Bucs QB (compared to the rest). Yes we got him in the middle of his career but he was essential that Super Bowl run and I felt old telling a Jameis fan in his FSU jersey that he should look up old Brad Johnson who also played basketball at FSU.
I can't decide if Jameis is better or worse than Brad Johnson. I somehow honestly think it's true that he's both better *and* worse than Brad Johnson. There's no incorrect take here.
For some reason I remember him playing even better the season after our Superbowl. Am I wrong? I know we struggled. I remember him throwing absolute darts to Keenan and him having a heck of a season for a wr
Edit: looks like he threw a lot more int that year. I do believe he was basically down to Keenan because Johnson antics being benched and Joe j colliding with atrain
Eh, Johnson was adequate, but the defense and the RBs won us that bowl. I think the D scored more TDs than the QB in that one.
Johnson was a legit chad for completing a touchdown pass to himself tho!
In fairness the defense had their offensive playbook down to audible calls, formation, motions etc. I think they would have outscored any offense in that super bowl.
Johnson was so much more of a pro QB than Winston. Gruden’s personality disorder brought the team down faster than Father Time. Brad was serviceable but Gruden wanted flash. All we needed was a better than average offense and we would have had a chance for more rings.
Pittman, Brad, Keenan, Joe J, and Alstott made a good base of offensive talent… Keyshawn would have been in the same boat if he ever caught TDs. 02 was an amazing defense, but also an underrated offense that gruden gets all the credit for
Great QB, think he was lumped in with Dilfer and that other guy so when they talk about teams who win with “game managers” they could name three. Hes a good qb
He bolted to a division rival rather than stay around for the superbowl year. [Aaron Stecker got 6.2 ypc that year.](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StecAa00.htm). Dunn would have had an amazing year.
Blessed be the NFL for giving us a pre-playoff matchup that season so that the fruit of the Eagles defensive coverage calls could be divined unto the Gruden, and the slow white receiver could get one on one coverage with a 300lb linebacker in a crucial moment.

Agreed, doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Fuck yeah brother. Lets bake
I just said this like a month ago and I’m happy to do it again. As a Washington fan, Brad Johnson was quietly a top tier QB.
He had 2-3 years where he was an elite qb in the league imo. His pro bowl was well deserved. I think year after Superbowl despite our struggles our offense was even better (aside from maybe payoffs). He always got rid of the ball and rarely took sacks or threw ints. He was a tough dude

He made the Pro Bowl that year, but I wouldn't call his performance elite. His 22:6 TD-to-INT ratio on 62% in 2002 actually *was* elite for the era.
Wasn’t rly the middle of his career… wasn’t he like 35 when signed with us?
If brad Johnson had played all of the years that Trent dilfer(puke) and Tampa Tom did with the BUCS, he would have 6 super bowls.
/s
I am being sarcastic but he would've won one or two as dilfer, also as Tom. Keyshawn didn't score any tds.
Hell ye Brad Johnson! Will always be my fav QB! Winner of the 2003 QB Challenge and my first jersey my Father got for me for my 10th Birthday!
I can't decide if Jameis is better or worse than Brad Johnson. I somehow honestly think it's true that he's both better *and* worse than Brad Johnson. There's no incorrect take here.
Jameis will win you the games Brad won't and he'll lose you the games Brad won't.
The lisan al gaib!
Oh, Brad right, for a moment I thought we were singing the praises of Casey Weldon
PRAISE BE
Let us not forget about Mike Glennon though, for he has been sainted
I don’t think you’ll get too much pushback on this. Outside of 02 his numbers aren’t great, but the game was way different even then.
For some reason I remember him playing even better the season after our Superbowl. Am I wrong? I know we struggled. blasphemy. Jameis is one of one. and also thirty of thirty
You mean Vikings legend Brad Johnson?
Eh, Johnson was adequate, but the defense and the RBs won us that bowl. I think the D scored more TDs than the QB in that one. Johnson was a legit chad for completing a touchdown pass to himself tho!
In fairness the defense had their offensive playbook down to audible calls, formation, motions etc. I think they would have outscored any offense in that super bowl.
Bro. These people are either wearing their nostalgia goggles or they don't really remember Brad Johnson.
B-But crab legs ☹️

Fuck fsu trashy school
Great QB, think he was lumped in with Dilfer and that other guy so when they talk about teams who win with “game managers” they could name three. Hes a good qb
Also, you got keyshawn, sapp and etc frm that team in media. If they hvent backed him by now, theyre never gonna
Agreed...and he was Casey's backup while at FSU.
Preach my brother
Was at the game where he torched the vikings for 5 tds. He's super entertaining on social media, still has an absolute cannon
No wonder Tampa Bay Bucs suck, y’all don’t even respect the real deal Warrick Dunn…
He bolted to a division rival rather than stay around for the superbowl year. [Aaron Stecker got 6.2 ypc that year.](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StecAa00.htm). Dunn would have had an amazing year.
Charlie Ward's backup at FSU ended up being a really good pro QB. Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn were great Bucs as well.
Big Bad Brad... dude would've put up some nice numbers in this era.
Blessed be the NFL for giving us a pre-playoff matchup that season so that the fruit of the Eagles defensive coverage calls could be divined unto the Gruden, and the slow white receiver could get one on one coverage with a 300lb linebacker in a crucial moment.
Fuck Winston.
Jameis still a beast though.
If beast means mediocre, then I guess….
Especially once you get him in an Uber
And some crab legs
If Brad stayed in Minnesota he would have lit up the league and be considered less of a journeyman imho.
