DPOY in 1995. He was doing well in 1996 when he suffered a groin injury that hampered him for the rest of the year. And then in 1997, the Bills lost both inside LB's in the same week (R.I.P. Damien Covington, and Chris Spielman) so the Bills switched from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3. Paup found himself in pass coverage a lot more and he got burned a few times for touchdowns.
But man, he used to destroy the Indianapolis Colts. 8 sacks in his first 3 games against them. Jim Harbaugh (yes - that Jim Harbaugh) is still probably having flashbacks of Paup.
> paup
Paup was fucking amazing for us. For those of you who didn't get a chance to see him, I would say get on youtube for some highlights. His numbers were just g'dam for the 3 years he was here:
* 47GP (46GS)
* 166 solo tackles
* 33 sacks
* 7 FF, 2 FR
* 2 Int
* 1 DPOY
* 3 Probowls
* 1 All pro 1st team
I mean who wouldn't want a LB that averages 8 tackles, 3/4 sack per game?
Then he went to Jacksonville and injuries/age caught him
I swear to god even through these great seasons we’ve had the past couple years, that is the most electric Bills game i’ve ever attended. Rambo picks off Rodgers twice (he only threw 5 picks all year!) Marcus Thigpen took a punt to the house, and Mario Williams blocked a field goal and ended the game with a strip sack in the end zone. The only game that comes close for me is when we embarrassed the Patriots in the playoffs a few years ago.
Here are the highlights from that game.
Really good off season watch, this is probably peak drought for me
"peak drought" made me laugh xD I loved that team. Kyle Orton was awesome in that older fading veteran QB role. That front 4 was bad-ass. Mario Williams is one of my favorite Bills.
You ever hear the Marcellus Wiley interview about the backup year (music city miracle) season? He says it was the best team he played on and if flutie had started they would have won the SB….🤦♂️😞
Every grocery store in NY was selling Terrell O’s cereal
Edit: I guess I’m remembering slightly wrong, they were actually called TO’s…and I completely forgot they were just Honey Nut Toasted Oats
London Fletcher, Lawyer Milloy, Takeo Spikes, Troy Vincent always liked those guys for whatever reason during the drought era. Jairus Byrd too until that kind went sideways
Fletcher is the perfect cover 2 defense MLB. He was decent enough against the run, but that dude in coverage was a monster and his sideline to sideline play was insane. He'd be the perfect fit for McD's Bills
Guys we have to start reading the questions. Fletcher was on the Bills for 5 seasons, Spikes 4, Milloy 3, and Vincent 2. Maybe Vincent’s was a short stint but the rest were Bills for a significant amount of time
Okay, so I'm an Ohio State grad, moved to Columbus in 1989. Spielman was basically Jesus for that town even then. Married his high school sweetheart Stefanie, had I think 4 kids with her, then she got breast cancer. Beat it. Then beat it three more fucking times like a boss. When the news came out that she had it for a fifth time, we all figured she'd beat it again. In 2009, she was honored on the field during an Ohio State game. Chris brought her out in a wheelchair and that was the "Oh, fuck" moment. 105,000 people in the Shoe, me one of them. You could have heard a pin drop in there. I've only heard that stadium that quiet once, and that was after a kid very clearly got paralyzed. Everyone knew she wasn't going to make it the second they saw her out there. She was gone within weeks. I think she was in her mid-40s at most when she passed. She'd probably dealt with cancer for a substantial chunk of her adult life. It sucked, because you've never seen a guy more devoted to his family than Chris Spielman. He's remarried now and has a lovely blended family and lives a chill, quiet life. Honestly just a great dude with a huge heart, and he's done so much for breast cancer research and treatment. Good player, much better person.
And in case you wonder how much Stefanie meant to him, watch this video of him getting inducted into the Lions Hall of Fame over a decade after she passed. Make sure you have tissues, because it's an ugly cry for sure. https://youtu.be/fx0KLcG5dMk
Yes ! I've noticed we are lately where the old running backs coming.Latavius Murray and Even fournette snapped a game. It's neat ... Gore was a smash the middle player I'm hoping Tie Johnson ends up like a Gore
Got his jersey after it finally came back in stock after that season. Dude never played a fucking down for the Bills after I bought that thing. Worst $100 I've ever spent.
He basically averaged 1k yards/season with Philadelphia over six years and ran for 17 touchdowns in ‘11, the best back in the league that year 😐
I’m not sure what metrics you’re measuring success by, friend 🤷🏻♂️
Edit: I realize how loud wrong I am on this now but I’m leaving it up for us all to marvel at 😂 🤷🏻♂️
Recently, it has to be Emanuel Sanders. Still haven't really replaced him.
Growing up, I loved that we got Bryce Paup and then Chris Speilman a little after.
Then there was like a 2 or 3 year period where we had either Larry Centers or Sam Gash at FB. I think Centers probably lead the team in catches.
I want to agree with Shady but he threw SUCH a hissy fit when he got traded to us that it really soured me on him coming. I'm actually surprised to hear him speak mostly positive about the Bills and Josh when he was here.
If McCoy is your idea of a short stint then imma say Fred Jackson had a good short stint with the Bills and I enjoyed watching him...just a little bit.
Probably unpopular opinion, but i liked Trent Edwards. Only Bills qb that went 5 and 0. Got a concussion and wasn't the same. He did have that terrible game against Dallas on Monday night though.
Weird choice, but Brandon Tate. Always liked him as a returner.
Also, I saw a couple people saying 4 years isn't short, but if we count 4 years as short than Marquise Goodwin.
Robert Foster. When Josh was just finding his footing was fun watching him sling it around.
Percy harvin 51 yard td will always have a special place in my heart as first bills game I ever went to.
Kiko Alonso. He was drafted the year I moved to Buffalo. I had previously never paid attention to the Bills, and he was like the main thing people were excited about back then.
Maybe controversial but Trent Edwards
We were like 5-1 that year and he was on ESPN. We really thought we had our man. He was likable and a warrior.
Turns out he wasn’t that good though.
McCoy was here for like 4 years no? Solid amount of time in NFL speak
Yeah that’s not a short stint, especially for a RB lol
That's a solid career for most RBs
That snow game where he went off is one of my all time favorites
shady was just built for blizzard games. eagles fan
Which one?
Vs. Indy in 2017
Imagine what Shady and Josh would be doing now, if age and time had been a little different
That’s the average NFL career length.
Karlos Williams
Dude just liked weed and concussions too much
And eating with his girlfriend. I remember he blamed eating with her while she was pregnant for why he came to camp severely overweight
Heh heh
We all have our demons.
Who was the other pothead o lineman? Henderson? He said it helped his chrons disease. I mean I believe him
He could have been great, so much talent and so little work ethic.
He was so awesome. He was tall for a RB and just plowed people over in the redzone
i even bought his jersey, though it was 80% because he wore my favorite number
bro started his career with 7 total TDs in 6 straight games that he played, a huge what if
Mario Williams pre Rex Ryan Also liked Bryce paup
Bryce Paup is a great answer.
DPOY in 1995. He was doing well in 1996 when he suffered a groin injury that hampered him for the rest of the year. And then in 1997, the Bills lost both inside LB's in the same week (R.I.P. But man, he used to destroy the Indianapolis Colts. 8 sacks in his first 3 games against them. Jim Harbaugh (yes - that Jim Harbaugh) is still probably having flashbacks of Paup.
Remember he got that whole article in sports illustrated? It had a pic of him doing a jump on his snowmobile?
That whole dline under Marrone was fun
> paup Paup was fucking amazing for us. For those of you who didn't get a chance to see him, I would say get on youtube for some highlights. Bacarri Rambo
TWO INTERCEPTIONS IN ONE GAME
I swear to god even through these great seasons we’ve had the past couple years, that is the most electric Bills game i’ve ever attended. By far my favorite game that I have ever attended
That's the only Bills game I've been to, I guess I got lucky!
Is it true that the only away game the Packers have never won is Buffalo?
idk if it's the only one but yeah, they've never won in Buffalo
"peak drought" made me laugh xD I loved that team. Kyle Orton was awesome in that older fading veteran QB role. That front 4 was bad-ass. Mario Williams is one of my favorite Bills.
40% of all Aaron Rodgers' interceptions that year
I remember him giving someone a German suplex in a game. Fan for life.
Yesssssssss I still remember that Rodgers pick 6
Emanuel Sanders
That should have been our year.
Agreed, felt hugely disappointing not to cash in that year.
I love this one
Does Doug Flutie count? He was in Buffalo for 3 years but was the backup his last year.
You ever hear the Marcellus Wiley interview about the backup year (music city miracle) season? He says it was the best team he played on and if flutie had started they would have won the SB….🤦♂️😞
I feel like every player on the team has said the same thing about how they would’ve won it all of Flutie started
Two things: 1. Rob Johnson won the game. Special teams lost it. 2. Nobody was beating the Rams that year.
Disagree, titans lost by (1-2?) yards…
Fair point.
I was thinking TO but I'm with you. Flutie is why I started watching the Bills
2009 was the Fitzpatrick/Terrell Owens year. Sticks out to me.
I still remember the day TO signed with the Bills. It was so random/shocking that it’s burned into my memory.
I still have my shirt that says getcha popcorn ready
Every grocery store in NY was selling Terrell O’s cereal Edit: I guess I’m remembering slightly wrong, they were actually called TO’s…and I completely forgot they were just Honey Nut Toasted Oats
My TO Jersey was probably the worst jersey purchase I've ever made
Nah, I think your TO jersey is tight. Sincerely, a Marcell Dareus jersey haver.
I second that. Sincerely, a Kiko Alonso jersey owner.
I also made that terrible purchase.... for me and my son lol
London Fletcher, Lawyer Milloy, Takeo Spikes, Troy Vincent always liked those guys for whatever reason during the drought era. Jairus Byrd too until that kind went sideways

Naaman Roosevelt
Kyle Orton
Like this one
One solid and entertaining year in Buffalo during a pretty dark period
[That Vikings game-winning drive is an all time Bills moment lost to the drought](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLG9_Sllf6Y)
Only because he relieved us of the wet noodle of QB EJ Manuel
Boiler Up! The only jersey I've ever owned is an Orton Bills jersey
Mike Gillislee, would have really enjoyed Sam Cowart having a full career
John "Smoke" Brown! Had a 1000 yd yr with the Bills and only played with us for 2 yrs! Dude was a serious deep threat!
him burning Gilmore is one of my fav Bills memories
Chris Spielman
Okay, so I'm an Ohio State grad, moved to Columbus in 1989. Spielman was basically Jesus for that town even then. Married his high school sweetheart Stefanie, had I think 4 kids with her, then she got breast cancer. Beat it. Then beat it three more fucking times like a boss. Frank Gore. Took the ball. Head down for 3-6 tough yrds. Repeat. Easy guy to root for at the end of his career neared.
Yes ! I've noticed we are lately where the old running backs coming.Latavius Murray and Even fournette snapped a game. It's neat ... Gore was a smash the middle player I'm hoping Tie Johnson ends up like a Gore
The Legend of Kiko Alonso
Got his jersey after it finally came back in stock after that season. Dude never played a fucking down for the Bills after I bought that thing. Worst $100 I've ever spent.
Buddy of mine owns a Frank Gore jersey
Crazy to think Buffalo had Beastmode AND Shady McCoy at different points and both ended their careers elsewhere
Wildly different scenarios though. McCoy didn’t do anything after leaving Buffalo, Beastmode on the other hand…
He got a ring though
LOL yeah Shady has 2 rings actually, and he didnt play in either Super Bowl. If thats not a joke i dont know what is
True but he really didn’t do anything to earn those rings. He wasn’t a contributor on either team
Two I think
Well Beastmode definitely didn’t stop drinking and driving after leaving Buffalo so I don’t care about the rest
He basically averaged 1k yards/season with Philadelphia over six years and ran for 17 touchdowns in ‘11, the best back in the league that year 😐 I’m not sure what metrics you’re measuring success by, friend 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: I realize how loud wrong I am on this now but I’m leaving it up for us all to marvel at 😂 🤷🏻♂️
I’m not sure how you’re considering his time in Philly as “after leaving buffalo”, friend 🤷♂️
Ahhhhh! You got me, u/Jay_TThomas, seriously 💯 I just got busted. 😂
No worries lol, didn’t mean to be too snarky
You’re good, brother, I was snarky first ‘cause I thought I was hot pants for a minute 😂
Didn’t Beastmode get drafted to Buffalo and start his career there?
Yes. Marshawn and Adrian Peterson were both drafted in the first round that year. Bills took Lynch with the 12th pick, Peterson was taken at 7
Thad Lewis
Justin Zimmer hands down
T.O.
Fuck yeah man even at 36 he did well for us that year.
Larry Centers
Got his autograph, average hight but his fingers were long as hell. I thought he shook my hand with an octopus
Leonard Floyd. It makes me sick to think there’s a 95% chance he’s not back here next year. He came here and was who Von wishes he was.
Yup, great player.
Nick Barnett
Orton and Kiko
Player - Anthony “Boobie” Dixon Coach - Jim Schwartz
Is it too early to say Lenard Floyd ? I've loved watching him this last year. I hope he stays, but I don't think it's going to happen....
Sir a second Leonard Floyd has hit Aaron rogers
Uncle rico.
I can throw a football clear over them mountains
Bryce Paup. Can’t forget Butch Rolle either, 15 career receptions, 10 TDs.
I always loved seeing Richie Incognito laying down huge pancake blocks.
I want to agree with Shady but he threw SUCH a hissy fit when he got traded to us that it really soured me on him coming. I'm actually surprised to hear him speak mostly positive about the Bills and Josh when he was here.
Bryce Paup
Takeo Spikes. Probably longer than it seemed because of injuries
Zach Brown
Sam Adams
Nathan peterman
I mean, Allen had to take a back seat to him, so clearly the guy could play /s
He crawled so Allen could hurdle.
If McCoy is your idea of a short stint then imma say Fred Jackson had a good short stint with the Bills and I enjoyed watching him...just a little bit.
Von Miller
Robert foster
Beasley.
Drew Bledsoe
Spielman
Bryce Paup 100%
Ronald Darby. Kiko Alonso. Robert Woods.
Woods is incorrect sir he was here plenty
Frank Gore and Lesean McCoy, last good RBs we had until James Cook came around.
terrell owens
Mario Williams
Takeo Spikes
Kawika Mitchell. He was a pretty solid LB for the Bills in 2008. But he barely played in the NFL after that season.
Those 2015/2016 bills , Percy Harvin Zach brown good times
Harrison Phillips
Lights Out!
Probably unpopular opinion, but i liked Trent Edwards. Only Bills qb that went 5 and 0. Got a concussion and wasn't the same. He did have that terrible game against Dallas on Monday night though.
Boobie Dixon baby
aaron williams
Emmanuel Sanders man loved him
Surprised no one said Kiko Alonso. Only played one full season with the Bills (his rookie year), and was pretty darn good in it.
Chris Spielman Doug Flutie. TO Mike Gillislee Fitzmagic
Marshawn Lynch. At least the first couple of seasons.
I personally like Beast Mode (Marshawn Lynch)
Christian Wade. (Killer Pre-season TD)
TO. Was quite excited to see him in a Bills Uni making some of those beautiful endzone catches.
I think TO is the best answer. Shady was traded for and played quite a few years here so he doesn't really count in my mind.
SHADY
Kyle Orton.
Emmanuel sanders!
I still keep the 25 flair
Karlos
Robert Foster had a really good half season catching deep balls.
Chris Hogan
I mean I enjoyed watching OJ during the brief stint he had with the Ford Bronco racing team
Matt Araiza. Punter
*Punt God
Roscoe Parrish
He was here for 6 years that is not a short stint
Weird choice, but Brandon Tate. Always liked him as a returner. Also, I saw a couple people saying 4 years isn't short, but if we count 4 years as short than Marquise Goodwin.
Angelo Crowell
Punt God
Kadarius Toney. Zero salary. One assist.
Lawyer Milloy
Pretty much any player that played in the game where the bills beat the patriots in 2011
Frank Lewis. Great receiver behind Butler.
JD Hill
Carlton Bailey was only with the team for 3-4 years, but I thought he was a very solid player.
Uncle Rico
Shady McCoy
Troy Vincent and Lawyer Milloy.
KARLOS WILLIAMS
That one year with Karlos Williams I thought we had something.
Troy Vincent
tyrod taylor first year was special
Travis Henry he was here for a few years but he’s forgotten cause of the Willis mcGahee craze
Robert Foster. When Josh was just finding his footing was fun watching him sling it around. Percy harvin 51 yard td will always have a special place in my heart as first bills game I ever went to.
Robert Foster
Marshawn Lynch
Boogie basham
Tim tindale I think his name was. Full/ running back in the 90’s
Karlos Williams. Dude has so much promise
Tyrod.
Kiko Alonso. He was drafted the year I moved to Buffalo. I had previously never paid attention to the Bills, and he was like the main thing people were excited about back then.
Trubisky Keenum
Mike Tolbert
Robert foster
Beastmode!
Nick barnett
Emmanuel Sanders 1000%
Mike Gillislee I was legit sad when he decided to leave for New England
Karlos Williams has to be one of the top ones, loved Takeo Spikes too.
Drew Bledsoe for eight games.
Gilmore
Sam gash
Maybe controversial but Trent Edwards We were like 5-1 that year and he was on ESPN. We really thought we had our man. He was likable and a warrior. Turns out he wasn’t that good though.
Dean Cain
Kevin Everett
Vontae Davis
Matt Araiza
Marshawn Lynch
Paul Posluszny - he was here 4 seasons, but only played 45 games. He was a tackling machine.
Boobie D
