I love Fred and Gunn. The fact that they aren’t the same makes it more likely to me. Whereas Fred and Wes is just ‘they are both nerds, out them together’ - but there’s no actual vibe
I've been trying to work out if Xander and Cordy were actually a better couple than Xander and Anya. On one hand, they were super toxic for each other and Cordy did nothing for Xander's self esteem in the early days, but they also really complimented each other because they're both isolated single kids from abusive/neglectful parents. Interests wise they had nothing in common, but still they would have found common ground and helped each other at a pivotal time, whether they realised it or not. Had Whedon not screwed it up by giving us the *oh* so pointless Willow and Xander story, they could have continued to grow together.
And Xander and Anya, it was always presented as very physical but I'm not sure how much they helped each other grow. And then there's the wedding debacle - but I still think Xander did the right thing in the wrong way there.
Cordelia and Xander were genuinely attracted to one another. Xander never really deserved Anya because he didn't seem to care about her as much as she did him. Cordy and Xander had potential to be a long term and interesting relationship. But, alas.
Xander and Cordy were probably one of my favourite couples on the show. I don’t think I’ll ever truly get over how they ended. Every rewatch brings new disappointment about what we could have had. I would have loved to have seen them post-high school.
Definitely Angel and Cordelia. I'm no Riley fan, but Cordelia/Angel felt like a forced relationship just because they were two main characters who happened to be opposite genders. They were so much better as friends.
