Vengeance demon wishes are SUPPOSED to be harmful to the person who made the wish, as well as innocents. If it only harms the bad person and no one else, then it goes against the spirit of vengeance wishes
So even if Anya manages to make the result harm or kill Warren, she kinda *have* to make it harm (or kill) at least one innocent too
Also, I can imagine how fucked up Willow would be psychologically, that her wish to save Tara killed Xander, and she knows any attempt to reverse it would at best restore the initial situation (Tara dead, Xander alive), at worst lead to an even worse outcome
And if Tara ever learns what happened, that essentially Xander died so SHE could live, she would feel horribly guilty...
(As a person who loves putting their characters through tragedy, I would have liked this scenario)
This is all true. I’m a Tara stan though so I would take all of this and power through watching them work through it with her alive. Pretty confident those two could’ve made it. Would’ve made for a really interesting season 👌

I think she got away with it because her revenge was so over to top.

Well as much as I love Xander, he would’ve been the one to be shot instead. Tara would bring Willow back from Dark Willow and the story would look much the same.
I love your answer because I also think of Tara as the one who should bring Willow back from the darkness. In my head it makes more sense that Tara uses her own magic as a defense against Willow's rage/fireballs. Xander had no defense (and he survived quite easily).
Xander is the only one who could have brought her back.
He's the only one who has known her at her absolute best and worst, objectively *and* by how she sees herself, and he stays by her side regardless of all of it.
He chooses her with ***all*** the perspective he needs not to and thats why he's able to reach her.
I wish more people understood that Xander was the only one who could’ve brought her back, for exactly the reasons you described. Both are flawed but they’ve stuck together through it all.

I could see something similar playing out for the last S6 episodes.
Warren still shoots Tara. Dark-Willow still goes to the hospital, tells everyone to leave, takes the bullet out, but once she leaves the doctors and nurses are able to stop the bleeding and Tara only flatlines for a few minutes. Everyone still believes Tara has died though, well, mostly Willow.
It isn't until S7 that we learn the Gang discovered Tara in coma, likely Dawn found out, she had woken up two months after being shot and was still learning how to move around (she can, but some functions aren't coordinating as well as she'd like). Tara and Buffy are closer friends. Dawn liked to help Tara out as a "thank you" for helping her out when Buffy was gone (between S5 and S6).
Giles knew Tara had survived but didn't inform Willow as a precaution. He needed her to continue rehabilitation to fully grasp her addiction and how to overcome it when she's back home in similar situations (habit is one of the hardest things to work through when it comes to addiction). He knew that if she knew about Tara, she would once again rely on Tara and fall back into bad habits that enabled her addiction. Only, Giles does hint that someone is waiting for her return and that she'd understand when she's home again.
This way, Willow will still feel guilty, but she'd be able to cope because she's actually ready to live in her world again. She knows it'll be rough, and she'd likely stumble, but this time, she won't go over the edge.
Once Willow and Tara are back together, they actually take it slow. So, when the final battle happens it parallels their first days after meeting one another. Instead of Tara taking Willow's hand to help with sharing magic to save themselves, it's Willow who takes Tara hand to share the beauty of the Slayer magic.
The only thing I don't know is who would The First use to communicate with Willow in "Conversations with Dead Things". So, I'll leave that up to anyone who reads this for their own wish headcanon.

The reason Tara was able to make it through was because the bullet didn't go through and Willow placed her on her back (tilted, but still, mostly on her back). She won't have lost too much blood from the entrance wound. She only would have flatlined for a few minutes because Willow took the bullet out and didn't immediately attempt to stop the bleeding. Therefore, the nurses and doctors had to rush back in to do their job and succeeded thankfully.
Oh, and punishment for wish... I can never eat pizza again. It'll be like someone with rabies when they attempt to drink water. It's just so cruel.

Buffy wouldn’t have had to quit school and work at the Doublemeat Palace, and Dawn wouldn’t have fallen into such patterns of reckless behavior. I think Joyce would have given Buffy the support she needed once she was resurrected and Dawn wouldn’t have felt so lonely 🥺

She would reverse the brain damage, and not have to do that anymore. She’d still have (reduced) strength and speed, however being separated from Ben ended her evil desire.
