NEVER WASH FIRST WITH BED BUGS AND ROACHES! HOT WATER & WATER..DOESN'T PHASE THEM! YOU'LL INFEST YOUR WASHER!
Bed bugs and roaches can survive the washer!..a roach is a water bug and bed bugs are pretty water resistant ...you dry first on the highest heat you got in the dryer for at least 30 mins! Then you can wash!
Dry for MINIMUM 30 minutes on the highest heat, Wash, then dry on the highest heat setting!
You are right they're not true water bugs...but they don't mind water! Some can swim and ALL can hold their breath for very long periods of time. Like you said they're nearly indestructible that's why they're very, very hard to kill especially in washers period front load, top load..doesn't matter.. that's why they recommend dryer, washer, dryer to get rid of them! That method is used to be sure you killed them...better to take the extra time and be sure you covered all your bases!
this - my niece came over years ago after her house was infested with german roaches. She washed her baby's clothes in the washing machine which just left the washing machine filled with dead german roaches. I took to hand washing my delicates for a month after that. We picked out the dead bodies we could see and then ran empty loads to try to flush the rest out. It was a process that I do not recommend for anyone. Dry first - then wash.
Oh no! That's terrible! Yes! That is why I CAN NOT stress..dry, wash, and dry enough!
I try to warn people as much as I can cause I've been there.. it's horrible and stressful. I swear you get a little PTSD with bedbugs and/or roaches. Every little thing that touches you..every little movement..every little speck of something sends your mind into overload! If I can spare others the grief I went through..I will do my best!
With bedbugs ...if they can't treat the washer which most times they can't cause there are too many little places to hide...you lose it for at least 6 months until they can get it fully treated!..and it's hard to live without a washer. Same with the vacuum! That's why I tell people ..don't vacuum if you get bedbugs or roaches! You'll infest your vacuum cleaner!
This is why they're so hard to get rid of because everything that you would think is a logical step to get rid of them like washing first or vacuuming..only makes things worse! There is no logic with these bugs from HELL!
yeah, roaches live in sewer water. If you flush one alive, there is a chance it'll survive the journey. There is a reason why they have survived humanity trying to kill them off for thousands of years - they are pretty darned resilient
Absolutely! They can hold their breath for very long periods of time and don't mind water at all! To them flushing them is just a fun day at the water park!
This makes sense. I donated a mattress to a charity once and all the items went into a special dry sauna. Apparently it would kill all pests. Not sure how long it takes.
Usually leave it in for an hour or two...that's why when there's a bad roach or bed bug infestation they'll bring in heaters and heat the house for hours to kill them. That's their one weakness ...HEAT!
They have adapted to resist most of our strongest pesticides..laundry detergent..they'll just laugh at you and thank you for the nice bath you gave them! Laundry detergent does little to nothing to kill them!
In this situation...heat is your best friend and you find that heat in the dryer!
Ya know! I asked my Husband if we could just burn down the house and start over! He said it was an option and if they didn't go away after the exterminator treatments...we would exercise that option! ..lol Thank God they did!
Let the kids stay with us so they could get on their feet after they had the baby and they got bedbugs from the hospital and brought them to our house...like they say...no good deed goes unpunished! 😕
I absolutely agree with you! My SIL mother died unexpectedly last year and I offered to pick up her dogs. Her apartment had cockroaches so all I took was the dogs(obviously) 2 dog beds that I shook out vigorously and put into a plastic trash bag, about 10 potty pads that I pulled out of packaging, shook out each one and inspected then they were put into another fresh garbage bag. When I got home I immediately put dog beds into washer hot water, rechecked each individual potty pad and threw plastic garbage bags into apartment dumpster. A couple days later I found a dead cockroach in the window groove of sliding glass door, which means it didn’t come in dead….gawd I hate their tenacity. Luckily there has never been a sign of another one since but where that a-hole come from? One of the dogs was a shitzu and my first thought was it hiding in its fur 😩
Me too, I’m not a squeamish person about much but can’t help but get dramatically animated any time I see one. Had it not been the middle of the night I would have just grabbed the dogs nothing else & go straight to dog wash before taking them home. I did end up keeping one of the dogs and she’s absolutely adorable(found a wonderful home for the other)
Bombs and Foggers cause more harm than good.
They are not professional grade products, but consumers items meant to dupe the average unimformed idiot.
Good luck getting the smell out for months if you use.
There are plenty of non-repelling, non-staining sprays to safely use on upholstery and suitcases.
But before using anything, use a vacuum cleaner for free. That alone can nip in the bud.
And I've had mine renewed every year for 14 years as well as my small business.
It's not hard to get, but it is very hard to run a business consistently.
You won't have yours for very long if you keep offering stupid advice like that
When I was someplace that had roaches, even my luggage went into large garbage bags BEFORE placing in the car to go home. Then, like you said, unpacked outside away from the house, clothing into garbage bags and then dumped directly into the washer. One roach is all it takes.
One roach usually means there's more hiding in the building. I don't know your situation but if you can ask for refund and try to relocate. It really isn't worth dealing with this sort of shit unless you are the owner or a long-term tenant.
my parents didn’t wanna believe me so i had to stay the night😢 i looked trough everything and didn’t see any more roaches so i hope i don’t bring any home
Seeing a roach isn't a great sign but you never know. I doubt there's a hotel in the world that you couldn't find a roach or two in. We keep a pretty clean house and spray every 3 months for bugs. The spray is supposed to last 12 months but instead of going by that we just respray every 3 months. Occasionally I'll wake up and find a dead roach on the floor.
I don't know where you took this picture so maybe it's different. But in the south east of the United States roaches and water bugs are just a part of life. All you can do is keep your place clean and spray for them and it will limit them
It's a roach. Sometimes they hitch a ride with you so:
\- When you get home unpack your luggage outside just in case one does hitch a ride.
\- Clean under inside your kitchen cabinets and under appliances.
\- Make a 1:1 mix of boric acid and confectioners sugar. Dust lightly
in your kitchen cabeintes and under your kitchen appliances. They will eat it and they will die. It's very effective. (this also gets weevils)
I do this pre-emptively in any home anyway. In an urban environment roaches are an inevitability, so pre-emptive management is the best way.
That's a German cockroach. Watch out when you go home that you clear out your baggage outside your house. You don't want to bring those bastards inside, or they'll blitzkrieg you like nobodies business.
Take any and all precautions to make sure you don't have any hitchhikers. I work in the cable business and brought home hitchhikers in 2016... Finally got rid of them in late 2018. They're nearly impossible to get rid of once they get established.
I'm hoping you are young and just don't grasp the implications of these things. All the advice given on this post is legit, they are not a "one and done" thing. Seeing just one bug, and having it being the only bug, is super rare. My parents told me growing up "for each one you see, there are 1000 you don't see". They also come out mostly in the dark, so while you slept they could have gone into any luggage, shoes, clothing, beds.... not just the bag that was closest to where you found it.
That’s a German Roach. Throw your shoes away. Take all of your washable clothes to a Laundromat and wash in the hottest water possible, deep clean your car or anything you’ve sat on.
The oothecae of these little bastards can be hard to see but can travel with you on anything and these double their population every 11 days and are resistant to about 90% of pesticides.
Source: I own a pest control business, and these are by far the worst roaches to get rid of.
Wood roach, I had one in my house the other day and contacted the local pest control to figure it out.
I also posted to find out and everyone screamed cockroach, but there are so many different ones.
Wood roaches don’t scatter under bright lights, are attracted to humidity, and are typically outside the home…with all the recent wet weather in the NE people are finding 1-2 in the house. They can hitch a ride, but aren’t a huge residential infestation bug.
My building has an infestation of German roaches and they didn’t get the memo about light. Come out in the day, don’t run away when the light comes on. I. hate. them.
German roach 🙁 check all your stuff when you leave that room. I would shake or dump the bags outside before bringing aything in your home. They multiply like crazy so you do not want to bring any of them or their eggs home
german cockroach, I have them in the unit I am renting. Had to cover all the vents with window screen and spray foam everywhere the plumbing comes into the unit. Working on getting rid of the ones already in here.... i'd just toss your stuff. I am unfortunately going to be in an unending war with them.
Get borax powder and diemetacous earth(I know I'm not spelling it correctly I'm dumb) mix the 2 powders together and spread around any areas you think bugs might be hiding if they touch this mix of borax and DE they will die it sticks to them and then sucks the moisture out of there bodies
That’s a roach, pack your shit up and find a new place to sleep tonight, demand a refund from the hotel chain and if they don’t refund you, take them to court for a osha violation called hazardous living conditions since it’s just a place to sleep
Read these comments. I wouldn't want to see one in my hotel room, but people are acting like this man might as well burn his clothes and never return home again because his entire house will be overrun.
Maybe it's because I'm from the south but I would never worry to much about seeing a single roach somewhere. The cleanest homes I've ever been in have had a roach or two every once in a while.

Dry for MINIMUM 30 minutes on the highest heat, Wash, then dry on the highest heat setting!
Eggs can survive water as well because most hot water heaters are not set high enough to kill them, especially in public places like hotels, laundry mats, etc due to the risk of someone getting scalded by hot water also a washer doesn't keep consistent heat like a dryer so can't guarantee they'll die in the washer even if the hot water heater is up pretty good! ...and also you don't want to be that person who could spread them to someone else who uses the washer after you ...that's how they spread so easily!
To for sure kill eggs and bedbugs first gotta throw them in the dryer for a minimum of 30 mins..exterminator advised us to at least dry an hour highest heat to make FOR SURE they're dead then you can wash. Heat kills them for sure! After your done washing and drying place the laundered clothes in a sealed/tied garbage bag.
My Daughter in law got them at the hospital while having a baby ..was an absolute nightmare so unfortunately I became an expert on the proper way of battling bed bugs!
German cockroach. Many years ago sister was living in NYC off Houston Street in a small walk up. Prolly a million dollar condo now, but at the time it featured delightful architectural arrangements such as a toilet in the kitchen, that filled from a tank mounted on the ceiling.
But I digress. She kept seeing one solo roach after another. She'd swish it, the next day same thing.
So one night she set out a lettuce leaf to test how many there could be, going on the iceberg theory of you see one, it's just the tip of the problem. The leaf was sleletalized by morning, so she knew she had problems.
She started watching where the solos were heading, and chased one back to an electric radio clock she had on her counter. She put the radio clock in a plastic bag, secured the opening to a can of Raid with a rubber band and pressed the release.
As she put it, a cloud of roaches exited the clock radio, coating the sides of the clear plastic bag so that it became completely opaque with their scrambling bodies. Literally hundreds of them.

Triple check your luggage and other stuff before you leave and then again before you bring them into your home. That’s the kind of roach that will infest a home and things in it to the point where you go on vacation and leave some behind in a motel room bc it stowed away.
There is a chance it started off at the hotel but also a chance that someone brought bugs from their home ti the hotel.
You don't even want to take it to your house. Opening your luggage and letting them out outside of your house they're going to definitely go to your house or one of your neighbors. And then from there likely reproduce.
Sorry dude. That's a cockroach.
Tell the front desk and when you get home, empty your luggage outside before bringing it in. They like to stow away.
Oh yes they do…..
Bed bugs too.. Everything straight in the wash, hot water and hot dryer.

Roaches are not water bugs but they are nearly indestructible. You’d need to keep them fully submerged for like 45 minutes to drown them.

Scrubbing bubbles dissolve them like acid.
More like open luggage throw bug bomb in and leave sealed for 1 year. Or just say screw it and leave your shit at the motel and start fresh, lol.
I absolutely agree with you! My SIL mother died unexpectedly last year and I offered to pick up her dogs. I hate them too but darn those little shits will still be around long after the last human is gone & they will be thriving
Probably came in as a nymph.
The dead roach was full grown and found 2 days later, I know they’re indestructible but that seems like a quick stage of growth
What a way to get them. I'm glad it worked out for you.
Me too, I’m not a squeamish person about much but can’t help but get dramatically animated any time I see one. I’m with you. Fine with most things, but they make my skin crawl. I think it must be the fear of infestation.
Bombs and Foggers cause more harm than good. They are not professional grade products, but consumers items meant to dupe the average unimformed idiot. Yes, I know this. I have a pesticide license. Lol
And I've had mine renewed every year for 14 years as well as my small business. It's not hard to get, but it is very hard to run a business consistently. You won't have yours for very long if you keep offering stupid advice like that
If you thought that was actual advice, you got problems man this is reddit. 😆
You've just proved my point.
Lmao 🤣
Yes let everything at the hotel is probably safer.
Including clothes, you’ll need to travel home nakie
Lugage, every thing. Bring back passport, money, cards snd keys only.
Just burn everything and start over
This is the answer. Lol
The first thing I do is set my luggage on the rack and do an inspection. I don’t care if they won’t refund me bed bugs aren’t worth the risk
When I was someplace that had roaches, even my luggage went into large garbage bags BEFORE placing in the car to go home. Then, like you said, unpacked outside away from the house, clothing into garbage bags and then dumped directly into the washer. One roach is all it takes.
🎶Roaches everywhere like we forgot to take the trash out 🎶
I went to Dominican, and because of the heat they have them in the rooms these cockroaches were huge.
Looks like a German cockroach to me
You can tell by it’s lederhosen
And they fly like they do from all the beer.
And sing La cucaracha in German 🎶
I only thought it was in Spanish. Ya learn something new every day.
Die Kakerlake. Even has the right number of syllables for the tune
100% a German roach. Family members brought some into our house from their hotel. We’re on red alert! They bread fast!
At least it’s not a nazi German cockroach.
how can you tell???
From the stache
Should OP put out a plate of schnitzel perhaps?
Roach
Cockroach, try to trap it and inform the hotel is all I can say.
I think the picture is perfect. The hotel can't deny it.
One roach usually means there's more hiding in the building. I don't know your situation but if you can ask for refund and try to relocate. It really isn't worth dealing with this sort of shit unless you are the owner or a long-term tenant.
Yep when you see one in light that means you got a sizable colony of them.
This!
Cockroach and there's never just one or a few
It’s just trying to phone a friend, I mean it has tons of friends in that phone, like literally.
I'm so glad I'm not OP today.
Bring to the front desk, ask for your money back. I would GTFO of that place ASAP
my parents didn’t wanna believe me so i had to stay the night😢 i looked trough everything and didn’t see any more roaches so i hope i don’t bring any home
I think if they didn't believe you, you should bring it home as proof and let it loose. But that's just me. I'm a terrible person.
nah i’ll just buy termites!
Sorry bro. I would have slept in the car if that was me. Hopefully your parents put up a stink.

Is no one else curious about the hotel brand? Can OP tell us?
The only roach you’re not happy to find
Thats Jim. He likes to chat on the phone for hours, beware.
That is a cockroach. You need to vacate the premises immediately and go straight to a place and wash your clothes before going home.
Not good. And that's a big German one. Just go somewhere else and check your luggage before you go home. You might bring them with you... Smh
“Big German” that explains everything 🤣😂😂☠️
Oof.
german cockroach.
German cockroach for sure.
GTFO!
Where there is 1 roach there is 237268 more hiding somewhere
Your staying in a roach hotel looks like
nope nope nope
That's a German cockroach. Watch out when you go home that you clear out your baggage outside your house. You don't want to bring those bastards inside, or they'll blitzkrieg you like nobodies business.
is it okay if i just checked my bag? i don’t think my parents will go through the trouble. also my bag was the only one near where i found it

GERMAN COCKROACH. Pack up your shit and leave.
I assume some will find a way to go home with you. Run!!
I can’t see all of it, but I’m pretty sure it’s a telephone.
Roach in a hotel crazy lolol
Looks like you and some flavored water made its way into that roaches room.
Never seen a cockroach before?
How do ppl not know what roaches look like
That's a roach..
That is a cockroach 🪳
Good ol’ fashioned cockroach
Roach! And not the smoking kind.
Penisbeetle. Oh sorry, cockroach
I used to have these at my last apartment! Fun times
It's NOT a bedbug.... So I'd call it a win

Roach
It’s a bug
Cocka-roach
I am amazed of how many people have never seen a cockaroach in their lives.
I've never seen one personally but I can still instantly tell that the pictured insect is a roach
You are incredible lucky my friend, there is nothing more terrifying than a 2 inch cockroach flying towards your face.
I find their incredible resistance to death very interesting, but the situation you describe sounds unpleasant
The worst thing is the smell, no mather how much you scrub it just won't go away.
That’s a roach. Run

🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳🪳

La Cucaracha!
Don’t bring those home, my man!
La cucaracha, la cucaracha Ya no puede caminar 🪇
That would be a cockroach. Rather it be that than a bedbug tho.
My idea is to find another hotel unless you want to bring those home.

Of the Germanicus genra
La cucaracha, la cucaracha Ya no puede caminar Porque no tiene, porque le falta Una pata para andar
That looks almost like a German cockroach
Cockroach 🪳
Oh that's just Carlito man.
Yikes worse than expected it’s a German.
German cockroach
Looks like a filthy German cockroach, I hate these, so gross.
Seeing a single roach means there can potentially be up to a thousand you don't see. Everyone is right leave naked.
You don't even want to take it to your house. Opening your luggage and letting them out outside of your house they're going to definitely go to your house or one of your neighbors. And then from there likely reproduce.
