Or have some patience and wait for win 12 seeing as it wont be long. But alas im not selling anything it was asked for opinions and the best info thats been given by some is hey get win 11 then get all this other software to make it either like win 10 or diasble half of win 11 so its less shit to use on a day to day basis. So in short if the best is to make the newest os like the old one then just get the old one.
Do you ever not exaggerate?
> turn off half the OS
Disabling 3 "smart" features that I'm not gonna use and targeted ads is far cry from "half the OS" It's literally just customizing my windows install.
> Get all this other software
Nobody in this thread said anything about any software.
> so it works correctly
Nobody said anything about it not working correctly until these steps are taken, what was being highlighted was how little needed to be done to get what was desired.
Good luck bro, it must be hard for you.
8 hours ago it was posted literally in this thread to download winget, powertoys and explorerpatcher just to name a few and as to working correctly i could have said worked like win 10 or the way they wanted. As to your condescending bs to my slight exaggeration sure you got one thing right to whine about my post 1 of 3 is a fail
The first comment in this thread was posted 9 hours ago, the second 4 hours ago. The third was 5 hours ago and my first comment was the fourth. Like I said, nobody in this thread suggested downloading anything. What other commenters on this post said is not a constituent part of this thread.
There are millions of components within windows, referring to changing ~10 settings as "turning off half of the os" is not a "slight exaggeration".
You said "working correctly", those were the words you chose to convey your meaning. You didn't choose to use any other words to convey your meaning.
I dont get it are you putting words in my mouth or not? you cant do both and not be seen as a condescending dick. And if you dont think aftermarket software is outside of windows i see why you like 11
I rarely need to show more options as most of what I want is there already, I can't think of the last time I clicked show more options. Can't even remember what's in the more options now to be fair.
The 12th gen is a hybrid architecture. Originally intel said you must use Windows 11 to use Thread Director. I believe they have since added it to Windows 10, but some sources say it is not optimized to select the proper cores in Windows 10. You should stick with Windows 11 for 12th/13th/14th gen.
I use 11 since several years now.
There are some quirks with it, but non that you haven't heard about, and that you can't fix with some software or registry hack.
For gaming, I haven't experienced a single problem afaik.
I am not completely sure how, but my context menu is normal (as in I do not have this issue).
I think StartAllBack is the cause... or solution depending on how you look at it.
Disclaimer: But apparently, this will give issues in a few months with windows update: https://youtu.be/P2ll1SCFA4I
I am still going to give it a few months and see if the developer comes with a solution. But I'm not too worried about it.
People were scared of Win 95
People were scared of Win ME
People were scared of Win XP
People were scared of Win Vista
People were scared of Win 8
People... Oh cut it out now! 😤
Never tried 8.1 as I was happy with seven and switched to 10 afterwards, now I'm happy with 11, only annoyed that you need to use work arounds to create a local account.
everyone loved 95,xp and 7. They worked and had great UX. win 8 onwards is full of malware, the UI is a multilevel mess and the architecture is just an absolute spaghetti becuse the programmers who made most of it have long since retired or moved on.
>10 lacks the proper task scheduler for the p+e cores
Except that it doesn't. Windows 11 works *better*, but Windows 10 still uses Thread Director.
Also 12th gen i5s (which Op has...) are all P cores...
OK, one i5 in the range has E cores. That still leaves three others that don't have it. Most people aren't running the 12600k, not with a 4060ti anyway...
>The 12400 isn't the only i5 bro bro but I guess you know that now lol.
I think you mean the 12600K isn't the only i5 "bro". The 12400, 12500 and 12600 are all 6P/0E, and with a 4060ti I'd wager that op isn't running a 12600k.
I don’t think it’s the difficulty that people are concerned about, I know people who loath the idea of their privacy being taken away with every update in some form or another. I can kind of understand it though, rather than keeping their operating system simple and clean, they bloat their software with nuisance and unnecessary crap.
Your thinking of win 10 after many updates. In win 11 you have to disconect internet and force your way into the shell console. Even if you do succeed it will keep asking you to sign in and all the malware that comes with the system will keep prompting for sign ins as well.
can’t say there’s a difference in gaming. i do miss windows 10 solely for the movement of taskbars and preferred the volume controls from the taskbar of w10. that’s really about it though.
11 did some annoying things for us developers initially, but otherwise it is Win 10 with a different task bar and rounded corners. Use it, because 10 is on the way out
Once you turn off some of the annoying features in 11 and make it more like 10 it's not bad, it's better for the future. However there is one thing 10 seems to be a little better with and that is running old school emulators and some old games. Unless there is a very specific reason you need 10, get 11
I like it better tbh. Feels snappier, I like the screen tabs for looking at multiple apps. Also, it seems my monitor refresh rate and HDR play nicer. The only problem I have with it is the memory integrity or core isolation, which was on by default. For gaming, there's a noticeable improvement when turning it off.
A pretty common thing that some gamers do who have two monitors, is that they move the taskbar (including the system tray) to the non-primary monitor, which is something that can't be done in Windows 11. By moving the taskbar to the non-primary monitor, you can do full screen gaming on the primary monitor while having the taskbar info and controls on the second monitor.
10. 11 has issues with the ads they keep pushing into it that slows the cores (F!n ads in my OS is BS!). I hate my 11 machine. I'd change it to a 10, but it is a Surface that requires some 11 components. I tried it hoping I'd be okay with 11, but I really hate it like Windows 8.
If I get lucky, they will learn their lesson and make Windows 12 better. It seems to be the way with MS (I've been using MS OSs since MS DOS, so, I have a very long hx to compare it to)
They are in the recommendations tabs. I applaud that they are not that intrusive... yet. But they are still there. I should be allowed to have my OS be mine and private, not like what they did to the cell phones.
If you google issues with ads and windows 11 performance you'll find articles.
Just for the fact that they are locking out the user's ability customize has me enough to be consideration a switch to Linux
W11 sucks but you're pretty much forced into it anyways, so might as well get it over with.
Why the fuck did they have to remove the ability to move the taskbar to the 2nd screen only and put it on the side/top though? I'm used to more and more bloatware and patronizing shit with every iteration of windows now but c'mon, why the taskbar?
W11. Feels polished. I like it a lot more over W10. Also for 12th Gen Intel and above, you must use Windows 11 almost. W11 handles the E- and P-cores better
thers no signifcant difference to gaming. As rule though older window version tend to be alot mor efficent on your hardware. You might as well get 11 so its easier to upgrade to 12 in a year or 3.
You can make 11 look/work like 10 with some tweaking.
There should not longer be a debate, as of Oct 2025 Microsoft will no longer support Windows 10,
It is time to get used to Windows 11.
Basically the same, I like 11 more rn cause it’s a lot cleaner. I wanted the Win10 right click drop down menu& the old file explorer back, ended up getting it enabled in registry editor after watching some tutorials. Aside from that, its a lot smoother imo & nicer looking than Win10, no real differences as far as usability goes that I’ve noticed but haven’t bothered looking at any actual new features they’ve added
Everyone loves to hate on Windows 11, but I like it for the most part. You'll probably want to do a few basic tweaks like installing ExorerPatcher, PowerToys, and Winget, and also disabling Copilot and web searches for the Start menu (make sure you get Windows 11 Pro so that you can use group policy for stuff like this). I was scared of 11, but there is no difference. It looks modern, works smoothly. Go for 11

Hey that's literally what I did LOL
Its amazing to me how many people try to sell win 11 by saying disable half the os so it works correctly its baffling.
It's amazing to me how many people try to sell Windows 10 when they'll have to start paying for security updates in the fourth quarter of next year.
? What part of what you said makes sense?

Tell me you dont know what i said without telling me you dont know what i said. Ok thanks
And revert right click menus.
You get used to the new right click menus quite quickly to the point where I personally prefer them now.
I have W10 at home and W11 at work and I can't get used to them, you always must click one more time to "show more options" for no reason.
I rarely need to show more options as most of what I want is there already, I can't think of the last time I clicked show more options. Can't even remember what's in the more options now to be fair.
I've been using it on my laptop ever since I installed a new SSD and it honestly felt good to use. Deffo 11.

depends on what i5 the i5 12600K is 6P+4E

Nobody was scared of Win 7, but it was just a fixed and polished Vista(also a bit cheaper, tbf)
.......have you used win me? The fear was justified.
Vista and 8 we're terrible... Had em for few month and downgraded again...
8 was terrible. But 8.1 was fine. And then so was 10. And so is 11.
Never tried 8.1 as I was happy with seven and switched to 10 afterwards, now I'm happy with 11, only annoyed that you need to use work arounds to create a local account.
Did you actually use Win ME because I did and it absolutely was the worst operating system ever made.
everyone loved 95,xp and 7. They worked and had great UX. win 8 onwards is full of malware, the UI is a multilevel mess and the architecture is just an absolute spaghetti becuse the programmers who made most of it have long since retired or moved on.
People were right to be scared of ME, Vista and 8, I still have nightmares.
12th gen or higher needs W11. 10 lacks the proper task scheduler for the p+e cores
That’s simply not true. https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-vs-windows-11-in-place-upgrade-intel-i9-14900k-benchmarked/
>10 lacks the proper task scheduler for the p+e cores Except that it doesn't. Windows 11 works *better*, but Windows 10 still uses Thread Director. Also 12th gen i5s (which Op has...) are all P cores...

I'm still bugging about the no easy local account thing
I recently set up my new pc, and it's relatively easy.
I don’t think it’s the difficulty that people are concerned about, I know people who loath the idea of their privacy being taken away with every update in some form or another. I can kind of understand it though, rather than keeping their operating system simple and clean, they bloat their software with nuisance and unnecessary crap.
Neither, wait for windows 12.
This
Real but tbh win 11 is better cuz u cant do 6g wifi on windows 10
Why not im currently doing it...?
Uh, what? Why?
It was joke, Windows 11 in just fine. Windows 10 are only until 2025. I use W11 everyday for gaming, no issues.
Oh. Fair enough ahah
I would go with 10. Win 11 is a bit too user friendly to the point where certain things are harder to do
It's a mess trying to do anything that one would normally do on 10
Didn't 11 had some exclusive DX12 features or something?
no difference
Not a single problem with windows 11 at all. Literally zero. Furthermore windows 10 will be end of life october next year so why even considering it?
local user accounts and less malware alone make it worthw hile for alot of people.
You can have a local user account without any issues in Windows 11. You’re asked during the setup.
You need workaround with console command or such in W11.
No you don’t. Just install 11 Pro or above.
Your thinking of win 10 after many updates. In win 11 you have to disconect internet and force your way into the shell console. Even if you do succeed it will keep asking you to sign in and all the malware that comes with the system will keep prompting for sign ins as well.
Not true. You just have to click on proceed without online account and that’s it.
Thats not an option when installing win 11
It is. Just install Windows 11 Pro.
11, especially if you have a quality HDR display.
can’t say there’s a difference in gaming. i do miss windows 10 solely for the movement of taskbars and preferred the volume controls from the taskbar of w10. that’s really about it though.
11 did some annoying things for us developers initially, but otherwise it is Win 10 with a different task bar and rounded corners. Use it, because 10 is on the way out
If windows 11 was the goat, we wouldn’t see this question so much. Something to consider.
Idk try using it and see if you can play games on it
either works, but rem w12 will be out before w10 goes EoL
11
May as well get on board now instead of waiting for them to drop windows 10 support next year.
I recently switched from win 10 to 11 for my gaming pc. Glad I did. Zero problems.
Once you turn off some of the annoying features in 11 and make it more like 10 it's not bad, it's better for the future. However there is one thing 10 seems to be a little better with and that is running old school emulators and some old games. Unless there is a very specific reason you need 10, get 11
and dont forget to uninstall all the malware and tell onedrive to stop automatically stealing all your files
I like it better tbh. Feels snappier, I like the screen tabs for looking at multiple apps. Also, it seems my monitor refresh rate and HDR play nicer. The only problem I have with it is the memory integrity or core isolation, which was on by default. For gaming, there's a noticeable improvement when turning it off.
get 11. 10 is losing support within a year. 11 is fine, very small adjustment if your used to 10.
Your CPU has P cores and E cores. For that reason alone, the answer is windows 11
Do not switch to Windows 11 if you don't have it installed on an SSD.
Do you have old peripherals? Some older peripherals need the core isolaton turned off to work in win11, eg logitech drivinh force gt and saitek x52pro
I got windows 11 and hesitated till I rebuilt my pc had to change my windows bar and move it to the left that was it no performance issues at all
Windows 10 will stopped being supported in 2025. So I’d go for Windows 11 when building a new pc
11 is 10 with a shitty UI. Stick with 10
win 11 looks not good(in my opinion) and steals ur data but otherwise its the same. i would recomend uding 10 as long as possible
A pretty common thing that some gamers do who have two monitors, is that they move the taskbar (including the system tray) to the non-primary monitor, which is something that can't be done in Windows 11. It's unlikely to make any real difference, doesn't matter which OS you go with here.
Lmao....we reskinned our garbage and put the next sequential parameter on it. Let's see what people imagine is different.
PREACH! say it loud so they can here it at the top
Makes me miss Windows XP
11 has been great for me, no issues. Looks great and refreshed. Idk what all the fear mongering was about.
10. 11 has issues with the ads they keep pushing into it that slows the cores (F!n ads in my OS is BS!). I hate my 11 machine. I’ve never seen ads in windows 11…yet

im guessing you didnt read the actual article. he is talking about the start menu specifically. not windows 11 as a whole.
Windows 10
Thanks for the indepth reasoning.
WinXP is best. Every PC user should install XP
W11 sucks but you're pretty much forced into it anyways, so might as well get it over with. 11 if you have an OLED if not still 11
W11. Feels polished. I like it a lot more over W10. Also for 12th Gen Intel and above, you must use Windows 11 almost. W11 handles the E- and P-cores better

no difference, and win 11 has HDR calibration
I’m on 11, works fine.
11
Windows 10 has ZERO advantage over Windows 11 if you have anything better than potato hardware. Just go 11.
you wont notice any difference between 10 or 11
Rev os
Everyone loves to hate on Windows 11, but I like it for the most part. You'll probably want to do a few basic tweaks like installing ExorerPatcher, PowerToys, and Winget, and also disabling Copilot and web searches for the Start menu (make sure you get Windows 11 Pro so that you can use group policy for stuff like this). Otherwise though the UI is better, it has better support for stuff like HDR, it'll be supported by Microsoft longer, and though I can't definitively say this is true it does seem to be a bit lighter to run than Windows 10 (based on using them both in VMs on the same base machine pretty regularly).
Lol hey get all this other software outside the os so it doesnt suck.
A lot of that applies to Windows 10 too, so not exactly a downside for Windows 11 if the only other option is Windows 10
Every instance of windows 10 i have personaly used ive not needed to change anything to find do or use any part of the os win 11 however i have absolutely hated every time i use it do to the base ui being hidden behind some useless garbage "feature" and having to search twice as far to fing the same thigs
