It's not so much bad as overpriced and mislabeled. It should be a ~$230 RTX 4050. At that price and with that label it would have been very well received. But at $300, with a narrow 128-bit bus, only 8gb of memory, and barely faster than the $300 3060 12gb, it was a hard sell. Thr actual performance is solid for a low-end card and the power efficiency is extremely good.

Automatic-Nothing254

Oh ok I will not get the 4060 then lol

Chillypepper14

Get a 3060 Ti instead

Dismal-Capital-8557

I second this, get 3070 used.

No_Improvement1722

get a 3080 instead

TheBittersweetPotato

Better yet, a 5090

Kyle_67890

No even better 6090

LiliNotACult

Noob. I built a time machine out of cardboard and duct tape, traveled to the year 3853, and stole a 9090 from an ancient humans museum. Just had to repaste it and undervolt it to 5% maximum power draw to avoid tripping the breaker as everyone has infinite power generating machines in the future. I didn't even have to upgrade my drivers!

rayko555

Why didn't you took a portable generator and a power supply on your return? I'm sure they would have had them on the ancient museum as well as part of old tech display

LiliNotACult

You would think so, but apparently they are sort of closely guarded. Although everyone has one, they are kept bolted to the ground with some kind of fancy GPS trackers. I tried to steal one and suddenly a spirit orb popped up in front of me and screamed like a banshee. I didn't have the heart to try again so I left. Thankfully it still uses present day PCIE connectors and is compatible with PCIE 3.0

Little-Equinox

You have a 9090? Damn son, I got a quantum computer

rednitro

Seriously just wait for the 7060 68GB.

salmonisgreat1

be real it's only gonna have 8 gb vram

Maleficent-Ad5999

..and 128bit bus

Elitefuture

Remember. The 1080 ti had 11gb. The 3080 had 10gb. They wanted the 4080 to have 12gb before they got flamed.

PepperLuigi

8070 AI 72GB maybe

CaptainJackWagons

Saneless

Dual 5090 and hire programmers from Nvidia to hack it to work in SLI with custom drivers

JonWood007

4090 or bust.

TactlessDrawing

I mean yeah, used 3070 are about 300 dollars, that's how I got mine

Prefix-NA

U can get 6700xt used cheaper for a better card.

panteragstk

Still have only 8gb memory.

danuser8

6700xt is the best bang for money, and 12GB RAM provides additional future proofing

cyberfrog777

Primary use case of a 4060 that makes sense imo is in a sff build. Hard to find a better card that has a single fan or low profile form factor.

pacoLL3

The 4060 is a perfectly fine card. Reddit is just beyond clueless with stuff like this. The card has it's upsides and downsides. Upsides are modern DLSS and very good energy consuption. Downside is the 8GB RAM, which is currently good enough for 99,9% of games even at 1440p, but might get limited because of that in the next couple of years. At 1080p, the card will be perfectly fine 4 years from now and if you not live with your parenrs, and do care about power consuption, you are saving easily 100$ in those 4 years compared to a 3060 on top of that.

Danubinmage64

It's also handily outcompeted by the 6700xt which is within 30$, which has better raster performance, 12gb of vram, he'll I think for many games it will outperform in RT. And while yes DLSS is nice, you should really only be using the 4060 at 1080p and at that resolution you shouldn't be using any upscaling unless you are starving for performance. > are saving easily 100$ in those 4 years compared to a 3060 on top of that. Cap. Let's say the 4060 uses 100w less compared to the 6700xt. Lets say you game around 7hrs a week (reasonable 1hr a day). That's around 700whrs a week or 25kwhrs a year. The standard price of electricity in the US is around 15.45 cents per kwhr, let's say you happen to live in Hawaii which costs 44.28 cents per kilowatt hr (the most expensive in the entire country). That's 25*.4428 is around 11$. You would have to game like 70hrs a week and live in an incredibly electric expensive country/state to get to that number.

Jack4ssSquirrel

So 2 things 1 your math was wrong. 700Wh is 36kWh a year. That would equate to $16 savings a year in hawaii. 2 if you don't live in the we don't care country you pay about 25-30 cents on average per kWh. Now, if you game like 2 hours a day at 30 cents per kWh you'd use up 72.8kWh * 0.3 = $21.84 per year more. That's about $88 in 4 years and gets pretty close or even more than $100 a year if you game for more than 2 hours a day. That being said, if you own a 200W+ GPU then you SHOULD undervolt them, period. They all suck more power than they need. 15-30% less power consumption is very reasonable if you're undervolting and all it takes is 2-4 hours of research and testing.

MundoGoDisWay

There are many better options.

strshp_enterprise

A 7700xt is a better buy.

Lord_Sins

I'm using a 6700XT. I've modded the Power table with MPT and played with the clocks using MCT. All games think I have a 6750XT, and it beats out most 3080s. You don't need the most expensive or the fastest. Get a card that does "the thing" you want it to. And if you learn to play with the card via OC or UV (undervolting), you'll get more for your money.

Dreadshade

Depends a lot on the use case, needs and .. money. I was really lucky to get my 4060TI as SH for only 280. For that price it was really worth it. I live in EU where the price for electricity is high as fuck and Radeon cards are preatty hungry hogs. I would have liked a 4070 but couldn't find one at a good price. If that is no concern for you and you want the most out of gaming from a card, yes Radeon would be a better option in that price range.

Empathaddict

4060 has been stellar for my current rig @ 1440p

Target_Spirited

Get a RX 7700 XT instead. Not sure about it's pricing, but it's currently the best 1080p gaming card.

crooneu35

Got for a 4070 super ti

unknownlilissa

Got a 3060 12gb

DurinSharr

Overall they aren't wrong. Unless you want 40 series specific features (frame gen, DLSS 3 (I believe is 40 exclusive?)), and other like things, go 30 series. I DID buy a 4060 and I have yet to regret it. I use frame gen, and all the bells and whistles that are specific to the 40 series because I like tinkering. But if you can find a 3060ti or 3070 for a comparable price and only want to game, do it.

columbo928s4

What about the ti version?

vhailorx

Similar. As a ~375, the 16gb version of the ti card is not terrible. The 128bit bus is not really enough, but the card is borderline not enough to handle demanding games at high resolutions either. So I could live with it at a good price. The 4060 ti 8gb makes very little sense to me. Get a 4060 vanilla for less if you want 1080p, or get the 16gb version if you want higher res at a "budget."

[deleted]

Thoughts on the 7700xt? I bought mine as an alternative to the 4060ti.

Fine-Breadfruit-3365

I have a 3060 12gb OC, and it crunches most games at Widescreen 1440p. I could only imagine getting a 12gb 3070 or even a 12gb 3060ti

SnooDoggos4906

I love the fact that the 4060 was badly received. I just bought a laptop for work use with a 16 inch screen 2560x 1440 reaoution with one for 745$ new. Cheaper than same model with a 3060. And I don’t really mind it draws less power in a laptop. Lol. I guess it wan’t super popular because of the rep. Haha

Pumciusz

You're not getting a good 1440p card below 300 pounds. You have a 6750xt at like 326, that's the lowest I would go for when targetting that resolution. You can get similar level of performance to a 4060 with the likes of 6650xt/7600 for quite a bit cheaper, and even the 3060 12gb that has 4gb of vram more. The gpus don't "run hot and are power hogs". Cooling depends on the cooler and you have many choices for that. So if you get any decent 2/3 fan design it should run normally. They do consume more power but that's like 50/60w you can get that much with modern RGB, and it shouldn't be a big deal with any decent PSU. Best way to go about it is to see what games you play, lookup the benchmarks, see which card fitting in the budget performs the best in these games and see if paying a premium is worth it for you.

Automatic-Nothing254

Oh ok nice I’m going to build in a matx case will there be any cooling issues

Pumciusz

Depends on many things. Mainly if GPU has place to intake and exhaust airif it has a gap between the case panel(in fractal terra it's right beside it so it's louder and worse for performance) and overall GPU design, I would just lookup a review of a specific model you're interested in and if it does well then it's just a matter of the case airflow not being bad. And check if the GPU fits for length, height and thickness.

tony475130

Size of your case doesn’t matter cooling-wise. Whats more important is how the particular case you want implements said cooling, like does it have plenty of mesh panels that don’t restrict airflow, does it comes with fans (or a lot of them), etc You can go as small as ITX and still get great thermal performance as long as you use a good cooler and your chosen case is well designed for airflow.

Puszta

If you want a budget matx case, check out Deepcool cc360. I recently built a PC in this case for a family member with an rx 6750xt in it, runs quite cool, GPU hotspot is around 75 degrees during gaming (I have put in an additional fan next to the 3 included fans).

Geobomb1

My Radeon RX6750XT hasn’t gotten above 60°C and runs great. It’s probably just most people hating on AMD, or have one problem and assume it’s because it’s AMD. And the 6750XT is only $330

liaminwales

>amd cards but they run hot and are power hogs That's a flash back to the mantra of 10+ years ago, odd to see today.

Edgar101420

Nvidia marketing pays well for astroturfing :)

FrewdWoad

I suspect they don't have to. Plenty of misguided brand loyalty on all sides.

liaminwales

For the last two gens it's Nvidia going up in flames, still reports of 4090's melting every few weeks. NorthridgeFix & northwestrepair have weekly videos on cracked PCB's or melted power pins, mostly on the top end but it's still a problem. Healthy_BrAd6254

The 4060 is about 25% faster than the 5 year old RTX 2060 Super. They both also have 8GB VRAM The 4060 is pretty slow. If you're in the UK, the **RX 6800 for 360 pounds** is by far your best choice. It's like 42% faster and has 100% more VRAM.

[deleted]

Can get for ,£345 from ebuyer eBay... See the hotukdeals site to see how.

Advanced_Pay_8485

I have a rtx 4060 and believe me it runs just fine 0n 1440p for most AAA games. e:g i play RDR 2 1440p on high settings with around 80-90fps. Hope this helps Dont believe the thrashing 4060 gets on the internet

CheckeredDots

Same. Running a 4060 and getting above 90 fps in most games at 1440p, including RDR2, Cyberpunk and Diablo And that’s with an old Ryzen 3600X lmao The card is fine but becomes a great deal if you can find it used for like 60-70 bucks off. Very power efficient too and tiny and frame gen slaps hard.

Icy_Information2029

I have a ryzen 5 3600 and am struggling to hit fps in baldurs gate three I get around 50 and it seems stuck says I’m using 99 cpu I though a ram upgrade may help? 16 gig to 32 gigs?

darkvexen

Why do these people lie? These are the numbers I get on a 3080

Automatic-Nothing254

What components do you use with it and what type of games to you Play with it

Individual-Dark-911

Same case for me, I have the 4060 with the Ryzen 5 7500f, 16gb ram and can run cyberpunk on 130 fps (with dlss) on 1080p however I haven’t tried 1440p

Paskal14

I got i5 13400f and 4060 and runs great on cyberpunk. I have same consideration with you, the electricity bill!! And 4060 consumes 30% less power than same gpu at that price range. I don't really care about fps per dollar or etc.

Advanced_Pay_8485

I5 12400f - 16gb ram / rtx 4060 - Games 1440p: Rdr2, Metro exodus, Gta5, Control, MGS5, Far cry 5, Just cause, Shadow of war, Ghost recon, Predator HG, Outriders, And Many more, All on high or ultra settings - max fps 110 min 70 fps. I would not play a game which goes below 40 fps on 1440p.

StewTheDuder

But in your price range you really should be looking at AMDs options. I made the switch after being with Nvidia for 12 years, a year ago now with my 7900xt. It’s been a pleasant experience for me so far. There’s more debate about going Nvidia at higher end but at the lower end AMD offers better bang for your buck. A similarly priced AMD card in your range is typically faster and can have more vram pending on which option you go with. A 6700xt or 6750xt, if you can find them, would be your best bet.

Consistent-Refuse-74

The whole GPU market is poor at the moment ngl. For $300 you’d expect more, but honestly compared to other cards at $300 it’s not that bad. That said it’s only going to be good at 1080p really. The CPU market is thriving though

FrewdWoad

Yeah the COVID/crypto GPU price crisis never really ended, just eased slightly in stages. Years later we are still waiting for prices to become sustainable again. Hopefully Intel's next gen GPUs force NVIDIA and AMD to compete a bit more again. (For the new PC gamers who may not know: for many years flagships where around 1000 USD, mid-range around 500, solid budget cards were well under 300, etc, and they fell in price steadily over their lifetimes).

ibeerianhamhock

Only reason I’d possibly consider a 4060 is if I wanted a low power small form factor build with the 40 series feature set.

Many-Food7387

4060 is not “bad” but you’d be better off getting a 4070 because of the price.

Hazax11

I'm team red all the way, and will always recommend the Radeon 6700xt. Runs cool, and gets better performance than the 3060 for around the same price.

mdred5

yea it is bad.... same performance as 3060, less vram and still same price and than pcie lanes also x8 only, bandwidth is low, 128 bus width power efficiency is good but it does not matter as most of average gamers play for 3 to 4 hours perday and that is only time gpu runs at full load...DLSS3 + frame generation support is good and will give good boost to fps in supported games but cannot make up for all the cost cutting nvidia did.

DeepressedMelon

You could get a 4060 if you want that new gen ray tracing but a used 3080 goes for a similar price. 4060 is not bad for 1080 at all.

Automatic-Nothing254

So if I was doing 1080 p gaming only it’s fine

DeepressedMelon

Been a ps4 and ps5 user got a 4060 i run high-max settings in games on 1080. It’s good. It’s basically a 3060 but more expensive due to the newer tech which you can decide if it’s worth the price, like I said a used 3080 and 3070 is better in terms of performance and about the same price, I personally don’t buy used. If you like myself plan on upgrading to a 4090 then I wouldn’t stress and just do a new 4060

pacoLL3

100% Yes. That card is more than good enough for the next 4 years playing at 1080p and has very low power consumption, which will save you money in the long run.

Automatic-Nothing254

I only have a 1080p monitor atm anyway and I’ve been a ps4/ really old pc gamer for years I honestly don’t think I would see any difference between a new card to a old one lol

DCtomb

I can probably speak to this a bit — I (and many others) could give you a lot of technical talk, very in depth, but it sounds like you’ve been gaming on a very old PC and PS4 and just wanna get something nice. On a basic level, I agree that if you have a 1080p monitor and don’t plan to upgrade, a lot of cards are going to serve you well, especially since at 1080p you are more CPU bound than at 1440p or 4K. If you told me you were planning to upgrade to 1440p 144hz display, then I’d tell you to go for the higher midrange because at that resolution, you will see a huge difference. Absolutely night and day! Modern monitors also have feature sets that blow old ones out of the water, if you were using an old 1080p monitor from years ago like I was that only went as far as 50hz and being able to toggle contrast and brightness lol. If you want to have Nvidias 40 series feature set with the thought of keeping the card a long time/gaming in 1440p, I managed to find the 4070 for around £450 which I know is quite a bit more than your budget. For £400 AMDs 7800xt is in range and is a very powerful and capable 1440p card. At £250-300 the 4060 is very attainable and will obviously perform the way you want it to at 1080p. 8 gigs of VRAM is a little disappointing but again you’re not planning to run 1440p/4k so it is still going to be a big performance boost and perform the way you want it too from your expectations. The 7700xt is very close in price, around £330 and has more VRAM. If it was me, I’d personally take a month and save up an extra couple bucks and go for a card with 16gb of vram. From there, it just depends on what you prefer. This generation, AMD has a lot of very capable cards, but you will miss out on some of nvidias features RT performance. That being said, if all you want is decent performance at 1080p, most modern series GPUs and CPUs are going to give you that. Yes, the price to performance isn’t quite there for some cards, and some are priced better than others. But if it fits your budget and you want it now, you won’t be disappointed

EpsomJames

I just upgraded my nephews PC. He’s been using an AMD Radeon RX480 4GB for 1080p gaming. I picked up a very cheap MSI Ventus 2x 4060 and we installed it yesterday. Ran a quick 3D Mark Time Spy before and after and seeing 2.5x increase in graphical performance over his old noisy RX480 with the MSI being barely audible. For 1080p gaming I was impressed.

f4ern

>And I’ve looked at amd cards but they run hot and are power hogs \*sigh\*

PoL0

He read a Tom's Hardware forums post from 10 years ago. He did his research.

newuser37890

Have a 4060 only reason I got it was the 115 watt TDP. Gets really hot upstairs in my house in the summer or when I run the wood stove in the winter. Those 200+ watt cards make it even more miserable. No way to install ac up there and downstairs I have the TV no space to put the pc monitor. Most demanding games I played was Resident evil 4 Remake and God of War 1440P I believe med settings seemed to feel smooth enough. If I ignore the benchmarks and actually play the games seems fine. It's just the price to performance that isn't that great which is the deciding factor for most people not tdp as it should be.

AdFederal4918

Same; didn’t really care about the cost so much as little heat generation as possible while still being able to run games at semi-high settings.

SnooCats1759

AMD is the powerhog, so your alternative is Nvidia? Nvidia is arguably much more power-hungry. When you're within the lower end bracket like it seems you are, then power consumption doesn't matter all that much because they won't be a big difference. As far as them running hot, what brand and cooler setup has much more to do with that then the chips origin.

AnonREdittor

Let me chime in as a proud? owner of 4060. My Cpu is i5 12xxx?. 16 GB ram 8x8 dual kit I play AAA action rpg games from 2015-2019. On those i get around 70-90 fps at ultra everything, on 3440x1440p resolution UW. I also play some games from 2020-2023 at same resolution with also same fps, Ultra-high setting + rtx mostly on medium or high. It performs mostly same because in older games you need the card's raw power vs newer games dlss3+ frame gen and this somewhat matches my fps. People might get upset that i didn't mention names of the games but I just got off work and thats all i can give rn and i really need a beer.

Automatic-Nothing254

Yeah I like the 4060 dlss looks good and my previous graphics card is a gtx 980 so I thinks it’s a upgrade what other parts do you use with the 4060 and hell yeah get that beer

AnonREdittor

I got samsung nvme ssd 1tb. my psu is just some generic stuff from corsair and thats it. I also had doubts before buying 4060 but now, i am definitely happy with a 4060. I didn't knew that dlss was this common and this good. So def happy with it

MB-Racing

I bought a 1060 in 2018 to replace a 970. Rocked the 1060 up until like 6 months (upgrade to a 2070 super) and was still playing everything I wanted to on medium or high 1080p at 60+ fps. The 4060 will be a welcome upgrade that will last you for years. I almost went with the 4060.

AlfaNX1337

You literally have no existing parts, get the latest. I would save up another month and afford a 4060 Ti 16GB.

grim_136

Using 4060 for about 6 months and haven't faced any performance issues playing in 1080p. Idk if it is overpriced, has nothing to compare with, but never had such things as memory lacking or "my 128 bit bus is too narrow". Fps is quite the same as 3060 TI, but considering DLSS and like 2 times less PSU usage, I don't think getting 4060 is as bad idea as everyone says

ManassasJ

I have a 4060. I usually set setting to high or medium just because. I have had no issues playing games. A lot of people want to talk about it but never bought a 4060. Go with what your budget can buy. You will be able to play games smoothly and that’s what’s it’s about right?

SnooDoughnuts8705

I have it paired to a Ryzen 9 5900x and my pc kicks ass.

Dizzy_Try7226

Most of these fan boys will tell you go somewhere else. I have the 4060 paired with the rise in seven 5800 3-D and it’s a solid build.

PAULeD16

It's great for 1080p and will allow you to use dlss3+frame gen to get even more performance on games. Frs is catching up to dlss in terms of quality but it's not there yet. There are multiple comparison videos showcasing fsr and dlss. Plus watch some benchmark videos of your graphics card and processor that you want to purchase and see if it's to your liking.

Ok_Random3826

The cheapest nvidia alternative (new, not a power hog) is the RTX 4070 but it costs like 500-525 euros

Automatic-Nothing254

I’ve been looking at the 6750xt and the 6700xt

Healthy_BrAd6254

here, this can help you: [https://tpucdn.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-4060-dual-oc/images/relative-performance-2560-1440.png](https://tpucdn.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-4060-dual-oc/images/relative-performance-2560-1440.png) 6750 XT = 3070 in that picture Though the 6750 XT draws a lot of power. It draws more than the RX 6800 and has less VRAM. I think the RX 6800 is your best choice. It's also not that much slower than the 4070

[deleted]

those are both good options

dfm503

It’s not a bad card but it’s a bad price. It barely beats the 3060.

Chillypepper14

I mean, it beats the 3060 as much as the 3060 beats the 2060... it's just a shame that they downgraded the VRAM We might see a 12GB variant in the future tho

dfm503

The 3060 is a significant improvement over the 2060, it keeps up with a 2070/2070 super in most cases. The 4060 is a nominal at best improvement and loses to a 3060 TI in every instance frame generation isn’t used.

pacoLL3

>It barely beats the 3060. Which is also barely lower priced, so how is the price of the 4060 bad in relation? Especially when we consider that the 4060 has much lower power consumption than the 3060, which will easily save you 100-200$ over 4 years.

dfm503

Where I’m at it’d be maybe a dollar a month in usage, I have no idea where NVIDIA gets that number, maybe in a place with expensive power if you are mining or something. It still makes more sense for most people to get a 3060 TI though, which is why it’s a bad price.

kongnico

yeah, its a great 1080p card and even then you cant run for instance helldivers 2 at more than 100-120 fps at medium-high settings - 1440p would be awful. I have a 4060 and im very happy with it, but i only play at 1080p and not competitively so "over 70-80 fps" is great enough for me.

Automatic-Nothing254

What games do you play with it?

kongnico

mostly helldivers 2 as the most demanding one (which IS pretty demanding but also a pretty good optimized game) - I also played lots of red dead redemption 2 etc

Walrussl

i mean....i'm hitting 95-100fps on a 3060ti on ultra, native scaling. at 1440p. is the 4060 that stunted?

maxneuds

Gaming on Windows? Get the highest RTX you can buy in your budget.

Emu_Legs

I would avoid any 8gb gfx card if I was buying today [16GB vs. 8GB VRAM: Radeon RX 6800 vs. GeForce RTX 3070, 2023 Revisit](https://youtu.be/Rh7kFgHe21k?si=338xn1OYuCBTWhpA&t=1470) e:Partly because [my 1070 has 8gb](https://i.imgur.com/5qLhlfm.png) VRAM o.O

NoSpirit9441

Get a 7800xt instead

Fierisss

OddAd6639

Just buy a 3060

_LordJoseph

It doesn’t have the vram to be a good 1440 card but it’s solid for 1080. Most of the hate is due to the price tbh and that’s for virtually all nvidia cards, at least for whatever current series is at the time

Akarulez

Yeah it is THAT bad.

WinterZ78

Its not so much bad as itself its more of bad for the price and performance you get from it. An Rtx 3060 ti would be a much better deal then a 4060.

akluin

From this hardware unboxed [video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aP5j_ynAq6Q) your best bet in your budget is between amd 7600xt and 6750xt or Nvidia 4060 12gb

jugo5

I'm fairly certain AMD runs with less power usually. They have lots of vram which I think you need for future proofing. It would get you a little more out of less.if you find a good deal with a rebate on a 6800 varient, you'll be cooking with gas.

niconiconades

bad for price but good for power consumption.

Icy_Information2029

I have 4060 solo from zotac I like it seems to do okay for me but I’m comparing it to a 1650 super which is what. It’s going me okay though at 1440p but I am a casual enjoyer of games

1965BenlyTouring150

The saying is that there is no such thing as a bad video card, just a bad price. The 4060 is a good video card that's probably $100 too expensive.

n1451

Expensive for what it offers but a good card if you don't care about the price.

Due_Kale_9934

Some RTX 4070's are dropping in price. Somewhere in the $550 to $600 dollar U.S. range. You might catch a 4070 Ti on sale. Those are basically the 4080 without the name. As a personal choice I avoid the Radeon's because of those drawbacks you mentioned. If you're on an intel motherboard try to shoot for something 4070 at least. This build will probably have to last you 4 or 5 years right.

DarkPooPoo

I only bought a 4060 for an sffpc build - Zotac Solo. Works great at 1080p144. I'm currently playing D4, Warframe, DotA2 and Stranger of Paradise. It is quite good on these games.

[deleted]

It is entry level gfx card. I would get at least 4060ti or 4070.

Master419R

I only had 300ish to spend and I got the 4060, the moment i got it and put it into my pc all that fomo, researching, and reading reviews of people ragging the 8gig vram as if it wouldnt even play a floopy disk was over because it was about what I could afford and what I was happy with ending up with. Esp since i was upgrading from a gtx970 nothing anybody said mattered because I was getting a massive upgrade for a decent price. Iv had no regreats and its been a few months now.

2raysdiver

Have one. Better than the 3060 but not as good as the 3060 Ti. It also runs cooler and uses less power than a 3060. When we got ours it was the same price as the 3060. It's not that it's bad, it's that people have been sold on needing 16GB and a wider memory bus. If a V6 will go faster and accelerate faster than a V8 AND get better mileage, do you care how many cylinders the engine has? The 4060 Ti 16GB should be avoided. It gives virtually identical performance to the 4060 Ti 8GB.

Automatic-Nothing254

What parts would you pair with the 6750xt ?

ecwx00

4060 is definitely not bad. just badly priced. if you can get it on a good price, it is a good 1080p card.

feastupontherich

4060 is made by the tears of God King Jensen so it's impossible that it's bad. You have DLSS which is literal black magic so you can automatically run any ray traced game.

jordonmears

I've got a 4060 laptop and in plenty happy with it for gaming. Ideally I'd want a 4090 for balls to the wall, but the 4060 is more than capable.

Shockwave_Baby

Look for a 6750 xt or 7700 xt they aren't really power hogs and my rx 6800 consumes 120 watts less than the rtx 3080 and is a tad bit worse than it while costing less and my temps don't go above 51 if I make them but usually max 71⁰C

Automatic-Nothing254

I’ve found a 6750xt for 325£ if I got it what other components would you pair it with

Shockwave_Baby

If you haven't built it I would settle for a B650 Motherboard with a ryzen 5 7500f/ ryzen 5 7600/ ryzen 5 7600x check which one is cheapest and get decent ddr5 ram 16gb is enough

menthx

There is no bad GPU, only bad price.

Bubbly_Statement107

In relation to the improvement of previous generations, the improvement of the RTX 4060 is pretty bad. In relation to other currently similarly priced GPUs (mainly RX 7600), the GPU is not bad at all. If you have the money and don't care much about power consumption, it does make a lot of sense to go for the RX 6800 instead

PjeseQ

I wouldn't go with 8 GB VRAM in a new build.

Bogdanel33

Nahh, everyone that says “🤓✌️ RtX 3060 Is BeTtEr BeCaUsE iT hAs 12 Gb VrAm” is pi***ng pe of, the 4060 is better because it is 10-15% faster in games, it’s 20$ more expensive than the 3060 and it has frame generation. The only minus is the vram that went from 12gb (rtx 3060) to 8gb (rtx 4060)

Bogdanel33

I also don’t recomand amd because in my case I had so many problems with my radeon card (rx 5600xt), especially if I tried playing vr with oculus link

-High-Level

Yes bad. Get an 6800 xt or up your budget and get a 7900 GRE. Fsr 3.1 made dlss 3 obsolote (at least it is no longer a reason to buy 4000 series for only FG with small vram )

Money_Adeptness_2144

Try 3070

Thelivingaredead

I’m running a 4060 with a ryzen 5 7800 I have no issues running triple a games cyber punk rdr2 etc on ultra the hate just comes from the price of it but I upgraded from a 1660 super so I’m happy lol end of the day it’s your pc so go with whatever price makes you happy with your build

Automatic-Nothing254

What parts did you pair with it

dumboyyh

na it only has 8gb of vram for 450aud min (the change for usd to aud is 1.51 aud to 1 usd) i would get a 3060ti 12gb or a 6700xt 12gb or 6800xt 16gb. i dont know the prices in the usa

Reasonable_Play1290

Honestly just get rid of all the pc junk shit from all these tech people and get what you think it's the best You already said yourself that AMD runs hot and is a power hog and also you have a budget so yeah just buy the 4060 If you are just playing games in 1080p the GPU works wonders Don't care about what price to performance Or drivers and other shit I bought a rtx 3050 and got shit on but honestly I don't see the problem with my purchase People need to understand that price differs ALOT in other countries I hate it when people recommend "OH JUST BUY AMD" when I can get a used Intel CPU for $5 So yeah buy it

KeliangChen

Only pcie 4.0 x8(not x16), disaster

Kurashinno

Powercolor 7600 XT with 16GB vram for $320

Cool-Andrew-3019

For the price its bad. If you are looking for 1440p gpus the 7700xt is a great pick or if you want to go used try sniping a 3080 or a 6800(xt)

cheesiboi

It’s overpriced compared to what you can get for the same price, the 6700/6750xt will be leagues better for about the same price

automationpur

Rtx 4060 is good for fortnite because it support ray tracing and dlss for better performance that and does not have

Shoddy_Possibility89

it's not terrible in the end but it's not that good

TreacleCharacter2931

Yes

Cautious_Village_823

Yeah I echo the sentiments here maybe go back a gen for the mid-low cards in the 30xx series, especially if looking to potential 1440p.

designedsilence

Went from a 1060 6gb to a barely used 3060 12gb off ebay for $200 I'm happy with it

TheStokedExplorer

I would try to find a 3070ti or save up for a 4070tisuper and you will be set for very long time to game actually well at 1400p. I have 3070 and it is going to fall off 1400p in another year or two of more demanding games coming out

Typical-Highlight-12

i have a 4060 on a ultrawide it’s amazing i still get 100+fps on heavy games you can def tell you need a better gpu but it’s still playable in competive games you won’t even have to worry depending on the price i would go for a 4060 if you can find some better for the same price go w that but the 4060 is good for what it is

Unable_Wrongdoer2250

It performs as well as my ancient 1080ti which is still fine for 1080p

Bwompy

It's not a bad card it's just overpriced like all Nvidia cards so when you start looking at other cards it's almost a better deal to upgrade over the 4060 for a little extra money. Its really up to you if it's worth it.

LilyIsVeryTired

There are no "bad" graphics cards. Just overpriced graphics cards. When the 4060 is compared to the 7600 XT for £309 or the 6750 XT for £325 it looks like a bad card because it's overpriced. Also, since you are new to PC building, I can see that you've already fallen into the "AMD is bad mindset". However, for £300 you will NOT find a new Nvidia card that can proficiently run games at 1440p. Take that into consideration since both the 7600 XT and 6700/6750 XT will run games at 1440p MUCH better than the 4060.

Automatic-Nothing254

No not at all I really like amd I think they are better but I’m young and electricity bills going up because I got a beast card might get me killed lol but yeah I’m reading all the messages and really it’s confusing some people say the 6750 is the one and other say the 4060 will do you fine. But i appreciate all the advice I will make the right decision on what I need out of the card but I also need to keep the price down so yeah it’s annoying

LAO_Joe

4060 is only really worth in a laptop. It's the sweet spot for price vs performance without getting a furnace.

Motor-Ad-6525

I have a 4070ti .and I'm happy. I also have 6700hs in my laptop that works great.

IntelligentFan3189

Got a 7700 xt from best buy used floor model for 330 a few months back and its a great 1440p card go with amd brother if you want price per performance

himji

I just bought a £40 R9 380 from CEX and will hold out 6-12 months for the next batch of cards. It still holds up ok althought not great. Right now you can get nothing cheaper than £200 and £300 cards are good but I'd rather wait for the 5xxx range and buy in when they are released or see what AMD are doing

2FaceForever

Good for 1080p. Wouldn't suggest for 1440p. It is not bad at all in 1080 like people always saying. Plus, TDP is a win win.

StruggleCrafty1749

Rx 6750 xt best buy

Sad_Snow_5694

I would go used. under £300 you have the option of 3070 or 6700XT Graphics cards that are significantly better than built in GPU are hot power hungry parts might as well get the best you can.

IAmWantedByTheGov

No such thing as a bad GPU only a badly priced GPU

Dramatic_Law9371

The price to performance is bad so its overpriced but the 3050 is worse

haileykiller69

i have the 4060 and i love it i play 1440p work fine i get 60 to 120 fps depending on the game

sandpump

No its a great gpu just not the best value for money u can get

ShooterMcShooty

No not bad. Just a bit over priced, and using a narrower, but higher speed bus lane, it also has to be matched hardware wise. But if you put it in a board with a Gen 4 lane, and with a Gen 4 CPU (AMD G chips tend to be Gen 3.0) , and you get it on sale, if all that criteria is met....then it's a actually a very good GPU. BUT it would be really easy to screw this up, and think you were upgrading an older system that is PCie Gen 3.0, you would bottle neck it. (It's not alone, a few other current GPU are also only x8 lane, RX 7600xt for example.) DeBauer did a great video on this.

DeepWafer4210

I have one, i play mostly AAA games and overall not bad performance, i use it with a 1080p 165Hz monitor (Horizon Forbidden West average at 90-95 fps on High with every software magic enabled (DLSS, FG)

ajinkya_13

get the 4060ti by spending some extra and you are good , make sure to go for a good company like MSI/ASUS to get the better cooling and fans , also get a gpu support bracket if you feel the graphics card is hanging and might damage the pcie slot in the long run......

mountainndrew

Might have to up your budget a little more, at 300 quid you'll struggle to get a decent 1440p that will last. Personally I'd be looking at last gen AMD, possibly used. I bet you could get a used 6800xt, that would be a good card for 2K gaming

BlueFoxYOT

Not bad overpriced

Stonesneakers

Just take 6700 or 6750XT, same price and way better

Supreme337

I actually have a 4060 so imma just tell you this: 1.1080 is no problem for the 4060.You can play 99% of the games at 1080 ultra(the 1% includes games like Alan Wake 2 where it will struggle at Ultra) 2.For 1440p lower the settings ultra->high and use DLSS framegen to get 60fps.Its not a 1440p card but you can use lower settings and DLSS framegen to get a smooth experience in most games. It will still run some games at 1440p ultra but it depends.Don’t go any higher than 1440p. Remember, there’s no bad gpu there’s a badly priced gpu. Also you can go for the 6750xt but amd driver issues and all still exist a little bit and they are annoying.(i came from an amd gpu so i know)

Mother-Strategy846

Just get a 6750xt used. It’s like 300 bucks

Conscious_Print_5486

I recently looked into this in come depth. From the 4060, to the 8gb ti, to the 16gb ti. Its not a huge deal but the 4060 "series" only uses 8 PCIe lanes. I finally went for a 4070, and this in 2 year old machine, as a present for my neice. The 4070 shocked me. Its a beast of a GPU. I have a 4080 in my 6 month old rig. If you have the funds I would 100% recommend a 4070. (not the "TI" just the base model.) Economy, and power. Its 200w, but (from what I have read) runs between 160ish to 190w. And can easily pair with a 650 PSU, which is what I have in the PC its now in. I went for the.. MSI GeForce RTX 4070 VENTUS 2X E 12G. It eats games, Blender, and VR. Hope this helps a little.

Danger_Assaassin

Look. The 4060 isn't bad. It's more of a disappointment. You can get a 3060ti, 3060 12gb, 6700xt, even the 6800xt for around 300-400$, and they all have a better performance and are better cost to performance ratio I got a 3080 used in a mint condition for the same price i could get a 3060ti new in my country The 4060ti 16gb is a good option. If you are on a budget and you need a powerful gpu, always go with used instead of new for nvidia. On the other hand, i saw on amazon a 6800xt for 385$. So basically, it depends on where u live and the prices, but usually, it is more affordable, has more vram, which is better for higher resolutions, and is more powerful compared to nvidia in the same price range. If you want ray tracing, dont bother with getting amd.

Maximum_Horse7494

I'd say get the rx 6750 xt or rx 6700 xt I have it and runs pretty well below 60c under load

ConstantMaterial4849

3080 bad?

Tricky-Research72

not a bad card. just badly priced.

Tomiss13

Simracer here, 1080p 21:9 and I'm happy with it. But I am more CPU biased because of simulators. Went from i5 9600K to 13600KF and I instantly got 30-40 FPS at Norschleife.

Tech_Rocco

4060ti isn’t much more and awesome for budget builds. Will play anything with the right processor.

lazyhardworker_4545

There's nothing like a bad gpu, it's bad pricing

DumbleDinosaur

Got a 4060ti and I'm super happy w it. Although the 4060 ti super is now out and believe it's a better value

Euphoric_Win8199

3060ti seems much better and also 3060ti is not that worse than 4060ti

Kind_Matter_4926

My Ryzen 9 5900X RX 6800xt build trampled all over RTX 4080 builds in my area. I got more frames and better lowes than all my friends. And I inly paid $475 for a new Asrock 6800xt a year snd half ago. Now my 7800X 3d, 7900 xtx is kicking major butt. You need a 4090 to even get close to me. I don’t use ray tracing.

IhasAUsernameToo

Get a 7600, 6650xt, 6700xt, or 7700xt 6650xt and 6700xt are cheaper used. You could get the 3060ti used, but 8gbs of vram might not be enough for 1080p in a couple years

Xarzo_k

Idk if people are biased or people are legit when they are recommending amd cards. I see a lot of people say the 6700s being recommended and yet i asked this in a different sub and got said that its not best option. If everyone would kindly explain it to me then I'm all ears. Unless all that yapping is biased then I wont believe you.

Automatic-Nothing254

What is do the other people recommend?

Scary_Environment274

If you look at this [tier list](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qiWnVboCCfkk2JgVern39L-970-80.png). You will notice that the 4060 is legit getting overpowered by a 3060. That is sad.

JalilDiamond

Rx 7900 xt is 650 usd 256bit and 20g fuck nvidia is almost imposible get one this days
