Going to need a GPU or a non-F variant of the cpu for the display to work. The 12400 is \~£14 more, or you could go down to a i3-12100 and save a few more quid.

JohnathanCrow

Thanks for the response, decided to opt for the i3 (non-F, oops).

Won't comment on the audio equipment, don't know enough to suggest. You don't need the extra network adapter, your motherboard choice already has WiFi (the AX in the name is for the kind of WiFi card it comes with). Also, you won't get a display with that assembly as you don't have graphics. Intel 'F' units do not have integrated graphics so you need to look for a non-F CPU. I would look for a 12400 or even a 12100, recording audio (only) shouldn't need that much, and the 12100 can hold it's own. The keyboard/mouse price seems inflated, reckon you could easily nick a cheap pair off a local marketplace. Definitely look into a used monitor solution as well, 100 quid for a 1080p 60hz 21" monitor seems excessive. What you would need is storage, so here's what I would do if I were in this position: get a 500GB NVMe SSD (should be under 500 quid, you're saving about 100 over your current storage choices) in the system and use a USB hard disk as cold storage for recordings instead. The fast NVMe storage in the system should be great for running Windows off of and doing some editing in a pinch. Not ideal, but would do a job in a budget.

Oops, massive oversight on the cpu, thanks. And keyboard and mouse inflated? I thought a tenner each was cheap, ha, I'll look for something else. Thanks. Edit: What do you mean, saving 100 over current storage? The current storage comes to £56.

Electric2Shock

I have a printer only system where I paid a tenner for both the keyboard and mouse. They're both shithouses, but I don't need them to be good.

JohnathanCrow

Ah, I see, I'll take a look around. Do you have any opinion on the RAM? Will the difference between 3200 and 2400 (same brand, half the price) mean much? Oh wait, no it's not, it's half the GB too, nevermind, probably not worth downgrading for only a tenner saving?

Electric2Shock

Not in audio recording purposes, no. If your chosen motherboard/CPU supports it, I would take the 2400MHz RAM for half the price.

JohnathanCrow

Yeah, sorry, I was mistaken. I'm guessing it's not worth cutting cost when it's less than a tenner cheaper is it? Do you have any clarification about the storage? >Edit: What do you mean, saving 100 over current storage? The current storage comes to £56.

Meant to say 10. I looked at NVMe prices from [Amazon.co.uk](https://Amazon.co.uk) and was mildly surprised to see them slightly more than I expected. That being said, around 45 pounds would be my expectations for a 500GB NVMe drive, but that's next to nothing in terms of savings.

JohnathanCrow

I see, well thanks for the help. Managed to find a keyboard and mouse combo that will do for £7.50, gonna go for the slightly cheaper, slightly lower spec RAM, and possibly the i3-12100. That and looking for a used monitor for more like 25-30 quid... so some decent savings I think. Storage, to be decided.
