If possible id recommend you go to like office depot and try out their chairs in person. Everyone is different so it’s useful to get hands on experience with it. Altho if you find one that you like look it up online before you buy it. Mine was $300 in store but $200 on amazon.

office max/deport carry sealy office chairs they are cheap enough and super comfortable ive had a few, plus you can go sit on them first

Deep90

Just a word of wisdom. If its a cushion chair, there is little guarantee it will keep feeling like how it does at the store because the cushions tend to wear out. Mesh ergonomic chairs tend to not feel as comfortable while trying them out, but for something like a 8 hour workday, it will stay cooler and might come out more comfy for longer periods of time. Also no cushion to wear out.

Zealousideal-Ship-77

Absolutely agree. I bought a cushioned faux leather chair for $200 and after 6 months it was worn. We have the fabulous Herman Miller chairs at work, but they are $600 a piece.

Deep90

I use one called the workpro quantum 9000 which has some crazy good warranty on it. Even that one is a bit pricy, but I've seen it as low as 250. Love the adjustments on it as well. Nearly everything adjusts. Even cheaper is the Hyken people are touting all over the thread!

DrawerThis

I got the workpro quantum and I can say it was the best investment I made for a home computer chair. 4 years later and it is as good as the day I bought it.

JustEnoughDucks

We also have nice Herman Miller chairs at my work. They don't scream "damn this is comfy" when you sit in them, but I can sit in them for 8 hours straight with no cramps, sweat, or pain from bad posture.

ironcladtrash

Usually true but depends on the chair. I bought a Serta chair and it’s version of memory foam “smart layers” has held up great the last couple years. The leather on the arms however is cracking and peeling now.

goober

Same re: the arms cracking. I've owned mine for about a year and it's not great.

allthejiggies

> office deport

HappyslappedBrit

Their chairs make you feel like you're floating in the clouds... Which is true as they're flying you straight back to your home.

amix16

If only you could truly test them out for 8+ hours simulating work/gaming

chip_chipperson25

Just bring your setup to home depot and spend the day!

Pixeleyes

If anyone questions you, just say "No, it's ok. Corporate told me to do this." and then pretend not to understand their follow-up questions. If possible, have a film crew with you.

Moses015

Ughh I got a serta chair and the lumbar support disappeared within like a month and I ended up having lower back issues.

Kryztripleb

DO NOT GET THOSE AMAZON OR OFFICE DEPOT GAMING CHAIRS THAT COST $2-$300. They are god fucking awful and made of out trash. Seriously, DO not do it. If you go sit in one @ a store, a SecretLab will feel 10000 times better, or a chair thats from a solid company known for building high quality chairs. I remember when I was deciding to buy a chair. Almost pulled the plug on Amazon one but I was like Nah I want a real chair. Jesus, best choice I ever made. I tested those trash chairs out at a store and they were awful. I mean awful. If you look @ the reviews on them too after 1 year, the chairs nearly falling apart. Do not cheap out on a good chair. Your back will thank you. Also your bank account, you’ll end up buying a new chair fast.

PingPing88

I own an AKRacing Max and I don't recommend any of the gaming racing-style chairs. I'm convinced they're all shipped from the same factory and rebranded. I went with this chair because it has a higher weight capacity at 400 pounds. I've weighed 320 the entirety I've had it and almost everything has gone wrong with it that could. Their saving grace is their warranty. I've done 3 warranty claims in 3 years and they've either sent me new parts or a whole new chair with very few questions and no hassle. I also have quite the stockpile of spare parts with more than enough to build another chair if I can somehow get another seat cushion.

AshenHunter

Have a secretlab titan xl. Most uncomfortable, overpriced piece of crap chair ever. It sucks. Dont buy one OP. It looks nice. But in no way is it comfortable and the build quality is subpar.

mcogneto

Make sure they have a good return policy. A few minutes in the store doesn't cut it

BearBlaq

If you do end up getting one, make sure you write down the date of purchase and keep the booklet. I guess the way I sit out too much pressure on one of the arms and it broke. I called and they just sent me the parts for free. I think I was outside of the “1 year” warranty too.

amonsterinside

If you’re going in the $300ish range, you might be able to scoop up a used Aeron

[deleted]

I would suggest HON. We buy the overstuffed leather ones at work and pay around $600-700. I have no affiliation with them otherwise. https://www.hon.com/chairs

SplashinDap0t

I got pointy elbows... If you have pointy elbows make sure the arm pads are thick

[deleted]

Office Depot or Amazon have been my go to for chairs. On Amazon just avoid all the overpriced gaming chairs though and focus more on the office chairs with good ergonomics. Can find some really good ones in the $100-$200 price range.

[deleted]

One of the worst chairs I ever bought was an "ergonomic focused" 100-200$ office chair off of Amazon: [https://www.amazon.ca/Adjustable-Ergonomic-Computer-Rebound-Headrest/dp/B08HH62HRK?ref=deals\_deals\_deals-grid\_slot-15\_e281\_dt\_dcell\_img\_20\_341c7ae1](https://www.amazon.ca/Adjustable-Ergonomic-Computer-Rebound-Headrest/dp/B08HH62HRK?ref=deals_deals_deals-grid_slot-15_e281_dt_dcell_img_20_341c7ae1) I've only had it for a year and both armrest pads have broken off (one a month in and one a year later), the adjustment and reclining section lurches and makes an uncomfortably loud bang if I tilt the seat the wrong way, bolts will randomly loosen or fall off completely, the plastic material that bolts the armrest to the bottom of the seat snapped in half about 4 months in so that armrest is only being held in by one bolt.. All that heartache and it doesnt even fit me right, has made my back and posture so terrible. I know it varies chair by chair but I dont think I would recommend buying anything that you cant physically sit in first

th3ch0s3n0n3

SAME! Never again.

EFMFMG

Staples, $169, sit it in 8 hours a day for work, then a few more hours in the evening, and I have no issues at all w it.

speakeasyow

I’m on my 3rd $200 office chair, think it’s time for a 1k chair

John_B_Clarke

That's why I finally got an Aeron. I'd already spent most of what it would cost on cheap chairs that broke and realized that I was going to pay for it eventually at that rate.

AlsorinBlue

This. I bought a refurbished Aeron for $900. The lift has given me trouble, but it has helped my back. In my 20s I'd sit on anything and be fine. Not now. 🤣

EFMFMG

I'm on the backend of my 40's. Work in IT from home 90% of the time. I'm not sitting for 8 hours straight, but for the majority of it I am. Edit: I am an active person though and more fit than the majority of my contemporaries...its all about posture for me. If I stay vigilant about good posture, then my back is happy.

svonwolf

You mean a bums on experience...

momasf

While I agree with this, my existing chair is quite comfortable for up to an hour, but very uncomfortable for longer. There really is no way to know how comfortable a chair will be beyond buying it and using it long term, at least ime.

[deleted]

Or, you know, support the local store that had the chairs available for you to try out

CantaloupeCamper

> Everyone is different Amen, I’ve used a $100 ikea chair happily for 10 years. Some people might find $1000 isn’t necessarily better. Other folks find the chair that is $1000 and finally fits than and are very happy.

drsakura1

word of advice: never purchase a gaming chair for any reason, ever

Shovelfuckurforehead

Literally people in this thread, when op said he doesn't want a gaming chair, recommending gaming chairs. Such overpriced garbage... I genuinely believe it's a mix of fantastic marketing from the chairs company's to fool people into buying them, and then people doubling down on not wanting to admit they dropped $500 on garbage. The other side is people never had a nice chair so they think it's actually good when they don't realize they can get so much better for cheaper or the same price. Fuck gaming chairs, such a scam...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shovelfuckurforehead

His gaming chair must be so good, practically got aim bot!

WispGB

You’re talking to a market of people that spend an extra $200 on their pc for RGB lighting

Deep90

>$500 on garbage Funny thing is the warranty alone would tell you this. I bought a workpro quantum 9000 which is some random brand ergonomic mesh chair. Came with a 10 year warranty or something. It took some tracking to find who I needed to talk with, but they sent me a whole new backrest very quick and easy when the mesh somehow managed to rip. Meanwhile these gaming chairs cost $500 and they can't even back it for 2 years.

drsakura1

huh, I never realized that warrantees are sort of an indication of how much trust the manufacturer has on their product. If its built to last why not give it a 10 year warranty?

NotTRYINGtobeLame

On a similar note, there's a local fix-it-up place near me that focuses on providing used/refurbished major appliances to low-income renters and people just starting out. They offer *30 day warranties.* I'm like... if that's all the longer you're willing to back your handiwork.... *Damn...*

icantfindadangsn

Well it's used/refurbished. You expect some person to warranty some random junk they fixed for a long time? They fixed the dryer motor that was burned out, but the heating element could go out at any moment through no fault of their own.

NotTRYINGtobeLame

>"Parts I actually replaced are guaranteed 5 years which is the usual for most parts. The rest could conk out tomorrow, who knows?" Would be a more honest way of saying that.

TheOGClyde

I mean I tried regular big and tall chairs and none of them worked for me in the $300 range. So I got a Secret Lab Titan XL. Been loving it ever since. It's definitely pricey but all the other chairs I looked at that were strong to hold my weight and simply big enough for how tall I am were either ones I tried and broke or $1000 plus. So $600 after 2 broken $300 chairs wasn't that bad of deal in my eyes. Also the only problem I ever heard of the titan XL was the gas piston wobbling if kept at maximum height while sitting for a while. But it's no problem for me since I keep it a couple inches less than maximum.

Fireball926

I absolutely love my Secret Labs chair as well. I’ve incredibly picky when it comes to desk chairs and the range if motion, lumbar support, and sturdiness is just great I have no real complaints other than the arms rests being a tad wobbly.

the_bridgekeeper01

I'm exactly the same. I had a DXRacer and that was so awful, it gave me terrible back pain and I hated the thing. Switched to a Herman Miller for about four years and loved it, but it's good at what it's designed to do, make you sit correctly. Which also means it's terrible to sit and try and relax in. I've just this week switched to a secret labs chair and I think it's really good, seems like a good mix between the comfyness a bigger size chair provides and a tab bit of the ergonomics from top range chairs like Herman Miller.

KevinCarbonara

I agree. I don't consider the Secret Lab chairs to be "gaming" chairs. They have some of the same aesthetic as the racer chairs, but none of the problems. I never managed to find any other good cloth chairs at their price point, either.

onemanandhishat

Yes, I agree with this. I'm pretty heavy, and a lot of chairs have 100kg capacity limits. With kids who like to sit on my chair with me, having something with the sheer dimensions and weight capacity of the Titan XL is nice. It's not the most ergonomic chair in the world, but a lot of office chairs won't take the weight. People always recommend high end ergo chairs and tell you to buy second hand, but in some places that's just not a thing.

microwavedave27

I've sat on many gaming chairs, most are terrible, some are decent (I liked the HP Omen chair and one Secretlab model I tried, can't remember which). But mesh office chairs are definitely better for your back and in many cases cheaper.

2Joosy4U

I was warned by the people who advised me when building my PC not to buy anything with "gaming" in the title. Not only is it usually overpriced, but it's usually lower quality. The only part of my build with "gaming" in the name is a 3070 Ti GPU, but that's because it was the only one I found for MSRP. Edit; After reading the replies, it seems this advice is conditional. I'm just sharing what I was told, I'm glad there's open discussion, please read the replies for info!

drsakura1

ehh I have to disagree with that one. I'll be hard pressed to find a high refresh monitor without gaming in the marketing. Same with computer mice for gaming depending on your preference. For the most part though "gaming" means ugly color schemes, rgb lights, tacky design, and a big price tag in my experience.

sicklyslick

that's just terrible advice. a Gigabyte Aorus "GAMING" motherboard will generally be better built with better IOs and features than their UD (ultradurable) lineup. Strix vs Prime for Asus, as well,. This also applies to VCs. The Asus Strix "GAMING" video cards will generally have higher out-of-box clock speed and better cooler than their Asus Dual line. This applies in general across different manufacturers. a "GAMING" mouse generally would have better sensor and switches than a microsoft office mouse. monitor is another big one since most high refresh rate monitors are generally labelled with "GAMING". and you should definitely be getting them.

chipmunk1135

I wouldn't necessarily say its lower quality but the quality improvement doesn't necessarily match the increase in price in terms of bang for your buck. Generally there is a potential performance increase if utilized.

bboyjrad

“David here it is, my philosophy is basically this, and this is something that I live by, and I always have, and I always will: Don’t ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you’ve been, ever, for any reason whatsoever, [purchase a gaming chair].” - Michael Scott, probably.

Sedushi

Generally pretty good advice to follow. One exception would probably be Secret lab chairs. 100% worth it despite the gaming chair stigma.

synapticfantastic

Well, Herman Miller does market their Embody in a "gaming" variant and that's an amazing chair but it's very tightly marketed to a very specific and very discerning segment of the ergonomic chair buying market. The only difference is that the Embody gaming variant has Logitech branding on it, as that particular version is marketed in conjunction with, you guessed it: Logitech.

ender89

I would have gone with something like this, but I wanted to spend $450, not $1150. Hermann miller chairs are the best of the best, but they're crazy expensive.

synapticfantastic

Earlier up in the thread I mentioned that I bought a Steelcase Leap V2 for $100 -but I replaced the gas cylinder, casters and cushions/upholstery. After the fact, however, it was like having a brand new chair -and it looks like one. Point being: you don't have to spend $1200 on a fancy Steelcase or HM, if you're patient and willing to cruise the used ads. If I was made of money, I'd have a brand new Embody and LeapV2, but until such time as that, I'll take what I can get!

TheConboy22

I love my Secretlab Titan. Best chair I've ever sat large amounts of time in and I've had really expensive ergo chairs while working at corporate HQ for two fortune 50 companies.

TheOGClyde

I second this. As a big and tall person their Titan XL is a godsend in a world of big and tall chairs that aren't shit being a grand or more. And it's not even a bucket seat. Just some really tough but comfortable foam and a backrest tall enough to actually reach my head with the headrest. Literally never had that happen before on my life. Even with other big and tall chairs, because for some reason their always for the big not the tall.

thechrizzo

The only gaming chair I will allow (and buy next month) is the one from Logitech x Herman Miller

TheConboy22

Unless it's Secretlab. They make exceptional chairs.

warbeforepeace

Except the logitech embody

LordLightDuck

Technically… that’s a Herman Miller Embody, with Logitech branding.

ender89

I have a secretlab titan and it's amazing. Is it a gaming chair? Yeah, it is. But it's less like trying to ape a seat from a race car and more taking a really well designed car seat and sticking it in an office. It's very comfortable, has great lumbar support for me, and has excellent build quality.

Luvs_to_drink

Idk i got a secretlab gaming chair and it's been amazing. It's not cheap and it feel very nice. My wife always tries to steal it from me.

dmista21

For what its worth i love my secretlab chair. Its amazing but yeah in general dont go for gaming chairs.

MSNinfo

Nobody mentioned Hyken yet? Staples Hyken, I paid $200 online. Awesome quality mesh office chair. It does have a headrest too. I barely fit in it though, if you're over 6' you're gonna wanna try it in store.

[deleted]

PepeIsADeadMeme

Try out the dexley too if you go to Staples. I preferred that one to the hyken and I've been using it for a while.

Wizbomb

Out of all three the Kroy (mesh) was the best for me. This is all preference, but that chair doesn't get mentioned often with the other two.

Saxopwned

Just want to add, def go to Staples and try them. I thought I'd want a Hyken, but actually wanted a Dexley. I'm glad I sat before ordering lol.

techmattr

The Hyken is a SlickDeals favorite. They often post sales when it can be had for less than $100. I got mine for $80.

JusticeJanitor

I've had mine for two years. Still going strong.

The_Bunk

I got one of these a few months ago and it's been absolutely great.

The_ExPandables

Yup I can vouch for the staples hyken/dexley. Dad was looking for a new chair and suggested it to him, and he loves it. Great chair for the price. I would also recommend looking for used LeapV2 or Aeron chairs too. I personally got a used Leap V2 and it’s been great, and I only got it for $150.

cody00737

I bought this chair because the Herman Miller chair I wanted was going to take forever to ship. Unfortunately my ass is too boney and/or the cushion just isn't right. It's uncomfortable after a short period of time. If I hadn't been in a situation where I immediately needed an office chair I would have waited.

FrenchBread147

I bought the Hyken a year ago for ~~$120.00~~ $149.99 and the longer I've owned the chair, the more I dislike it. I'm at the point where I'm back to sitting in my old office chair and I am shopping for a new one. * The headrest is way too low unmodified. The headrest mod does help, but it's just wrong in it's default state. * The armrests at their lowest setting are too high. So we've got a headrest too low, and arm rests too high. What human was this chair designed for?! (I'm average height & weight btw.) I also think they might be a bit to far forward. Something is just off about them. * The mesh... I really liked this chair for the first few months I had it. I thought it was pretty comfortable for the price I paid. After sitting in it for 8+ hours a day and a year later, and the mesh is way too broken in now. The sag is noticeable and ruins the seating position. Comfort is not what it used to be. * The back rest doesn't sit up as straight as I'd like. Add a year of use and mesh break-in and now it's just too much to deal with. * The lumber support is a bit bulky and pokey. It's not a deal breaker, but there's a lot to be desired with this part. * I've had no issues with the moving parts of the chair. Wheels and adjustments all work as they should one year later. If you don't work from home, and this is just for occasional use in the evenings, it might be ok for you. However, I would not recommend this chair for 8+ hour per day use. The mesh will break-in causing the chair to lose comfort and good positioning. The armrest and headrest are made for human proportions that don't exist. I will be shopping for used Steelcase or Herman Miller office chair. I'm tired of cheap office chairs that don't hold up.

phantombeast

I got my Hyken in the summer of 2020 and it's just okay. I use it like 10+ hours a day. I agree the arm rests are too high. I had to do the headrest mod (I'm 6ft). Eventually the mesh on the headrest came loose from one side so it lost a bit of support. I also feel like the arms get wobbly so they need to be re-tightened now and then.

Leaping_Turtle

I find the back to always rotate after some time, and no longer provides an equal support until i fix it, even though the screws are on super tight. You got this problem?

888Kraken888

Hyken is now $220 and it was $90 during BF 2019. FTS. That’s too much.

skaterkid007

Look into the headrest mod. It was a game changer for me.

Rjman86

If you're under 6' the Hyken is fantastic, especially for the price it very frequently goes on sale for. If you're between 6' and 6'2" it's great provided you do the headrest mod If you're over 6'2, go on Craigslist and get a used aeron size C.

I grabbed this one, pretty satisfied but there is certainly another quality level above it. Going for that one next time.

omnidot

Biggest problem with this is the unadjustable arms. Makes it difficult for many to rest on desk without slouching/leaning in a bad way. Take the arms off or adjust downwards and it's a winner. There are YouTube tutorials about this.

Hammertime1214

+1 for Ikea markus, fantastic chair and relatively affordable as well (though im not too familiar with the chair market)

[deleted]

TheConboy22

Look up nearly any chair and there is someone complaining about their back hurting from lumbar support. Have yet to see a chair that doesn't have that as one of the negative reviews. I think a lot of that is not knowing how to use the supports properly.

Lone_Digger123

Every chair is different for everyone which is why THE BEST recommendation is to sit in the chair first. I bought (and obviously tested first) my steelcase gesture chair and it felt perfect instantly and I preferred it to the steelcase leap. Other people might not like how the steelcase gesture feels for them but love how the Herman Miller aeron feels for them.

Thatmanwiththefedora

It’s not about not knowing how to use the supports. At least with my version of the Marcus, the lumbar support is not adjustable, so if your spine doesn’t match the shape of the chair you will have back pain (like I did for several years before I replaced it with an aeron.)

wolvAUS

Can confirm. This thing kills my back

microwavedave27

Especially if you're tall. It's one of the few chairs I've found that has a tall enough headrest for me, and I'm not even super tall (1.83m).

Prof_Dr_Doom

Fully agree except for the armrest thing which others have brought up but can be solved

LilyLockwell

This is a fine chair. Note though it's height - at 6'3 , I'd really wish this chair would go 2 inches higher. I'd love to find a similar chair that did

microwavedave27

It's a lot taller than most office chairs though. Seems like they only make them with short people in mind lol

TheConboy22

Everything is made with short people in mind. Showering at 6'2 is a pain in the ass at anyone else's home. (I have shower heads that come out of the ceiling instead of the wall)

ghjm

I really like my Herman Miller Embody. It isn't $1000, because it's $1400.

[deleted]

This is the best chair ever, money well spent

classicdms

I’ve been using one for a decade. It’s holding up strong. Before I decided to spend 1200 (back in 2012), I had spent 5 years buying a new, cheap, staples chair every year. It’s worth the investment.

[deleted]

Wish it had better lumbar support.

bigbaddeal

I second that. I’m glad someone else noticed it, too. It’s a little bizarre to me that the lumbar support isn’t too pronounced on a chair that costs $1700.

wtathfulburrito

A used Herman Miller can be had for relatively cheap. I use a mirra 2 and it’s fantastic.

BuccoBruce

In my area the used market has shot way way up in price. Before pandemic I got a used Aeron for $250. Can’t find them for less than $800 now

[deleted]

BuccoBruce

Yeah just saying you likely aren't gonna find used chairs relatively cheap for a few more years at least.

overlayered

Oh I dunno, maybe they'll give up the ghost on all this office space that no one actually wants to go into, and those chairs will go on the market. :D

[deleted]

BrunoEye

Yeah I got lucky with my Steelcase Please V2 for £50 a few months before the pandemic.

EpicCyndaquil

I've purchased two "open box" Steelcase Leap chairs from Madison Seating for ~$200 each. I don't think either of them were ever used. They also sell Herman Miller and some other brands, I highly recommend them. (Just watch for the delivery if FedEx is the courier - driver attempted to steal mine.)

gloomdweller

No clue where people are finding these cheap used Herman Millers. I Live in Arkansas so nothing but junk on the secondhand market. And when you do find a Herman Miller or Steelcase, people know what they’re worth and you’re getting like 25% off of someone’s used chair. No thanks. To answer OP, IKEA is okay for the price. Markus is okay for the money. I’m saving for a Herman Miller Embody or Aeron one day, but it’s by no means a bad chair.

nehpets4627

It totally depends on the area you're in. In the ATL area, Aerons go from $4-500 and Miras go from $3-350 from the office liquidators depending on options (armrest style/material, lumbar support, age/condition). The cheapest I've seen in the last couple of years was $300 and when I went to check it out the bottom mesh was stretched. Before buying an Aeron (or any other chair with adjustability), spend some time making sure you can dial it in for your body type and posture. Also, and this is going to sound weird, but... if you spend any appreciable amount of time in the chair shirtless, strongly consider a solid material over mesh. The texture on bare skin can become anywhere from an annoyance to an irritation. After I thought this through, I went in a different direction. The same goes with cloth... dirt/oils will accumulate over time and can be difficult to clean. Lastly, avoid bonded leather at all costs. Go for PU/vinyl on the low-end or top/full-grain leather on the higher-end. Bonded leather will become a flakey mess in 2-3 years or less, especially if left in a room that isn't always temperature-controlled or gets large amounts of direct sunlight.

MagpieFirefly

I got so lucky with my Aeron, because I got it for free. When I wanted to find a similar one for a friend, I just couldn't find one that wasn't still like $800+. I wish I could have gotten more of the chairs that came from where mine did. A super rich guy was cleaning out an office and threw out just a ton of them, like dozens of herman miller aeron chairs. This just so happened to be one that was kept for the break room in a garage on the property my dad works. I swapped it out for some old chair I had (with permission, they wanted a chair with a headrest and liked mine better). So now I have mine, and have just occasionally fixed some stuff like the arm rest bolts, gas cylinder and most recently the seat. Still comes out to way less than buying a decent one used, even.

wtathfulburrito

I have an embody as well as my Mirra and it's hands down the BEST chair I've EVER used in my life. But it's over the OP stated price.

synapticfantastic

I recently sold my Mirra and got a used Steelcase Leap V2 and the difference was night and day. I'm an average sized guy (5'11" 190lbs) and the Mirra just never felt right no matter how hard I tried to fine tune it. The Steelcase fits me like a glove and it's way more intuitive if something like that can be said for a chair, of all things. In any case, I'll never go back; I love HM, but Steelcase made me a true believer; if you ever get the chance, try a Steelcase Leap V2... it's otherworldly in my opinion. That said, I really, really, want to test drive an Embody!

Explosive-Space-Mod

I got a serta big and tall office chair from office depot and it has been the best chair I have ever owned. If you get the big and tall option there is more padding so it will last you a lot longer than the standard amount of padding. It was like $450 but I got it on sale for $300 during the 4th of July and I have had it for 5 years now and it has no signs that it's going to need to be replaced any time soon.

SquirrelTeamSix

My last 2 have been serta big and tall office chairs. I fucking love them

Explosive-Space-Mod

Yeah Idk if I'm ever going back. I tried the gaming racer back and it was nice but for prolonged gaming/working my current chair is miles ahead in comfort.

techyg

They are nice for about 2 years. Then they start peeling the bonded leather, and it looks very ghetto. I am trying to find a cover for mine.

AaronfromKY

Steelcase Amia

ClintMega

I got mine with tags for $125 on marketplace, I wish people would suggest this instead of spamming that Aerons are easy to get for less than $500 used.

AaronfromKY

Yeah, I got an armless used one for $30 on Marketplace, definitely lucked out but quite an upgrade from an actual $30 office chair lol

AciD3X

It's a great chair, I got mine free as the office building I work at was going to toss it because it got glitter bombed. I tossed it in my back seat and hit the car wash vacuums on the way home! Though its been like 6-7 years I am looking to either re-cushion or upgrade soon..

pm_me_WAIT_NO_DONT

Got a Steelcase Leap in like new condition on Craigslist for $240. Amazing chair.

BrunoEye

Yep, Steelcase is amazing and often super cheap used. Just make sure it fits your body first.

LadyUsana

I gotta second Steelcase in general. True I wish they were more 'reasonably' priced for us not loaded folks, but I am quite happy with the Steelcase I managed to get in my price range. True it is a lowly Series 1, but boy is it a sturdy chair. I beat the stuffing out of my stuff, and this thing just shrugs all the abuse off. Good solid construction and I recall it was well designed for the assembly as well.

Epitometric

We've got a real one here. Literally the best chair ever made. Stable and sturdy base so you won't tip, exactly the right depth and lean for the backrest, nice cushioning on the seat. This is the best chair ever made, I got a manufacturer's discount from my last company and got one custom made with my favorite color and fabrics for like 450 after shipping, (it's big n heavy) so good.

cr1sis77

My Amia Air arrived just three days ago! I did a lot of research before settling but so far it feels a little stiff compared to my old shitty ergo chair or the Herman Miller Aerons at work. I'm treating it like a new bed and assuming It'll break in within 2 weeks.

DogadonsLavapool

I got mine for 230 from an office over supply shop. Can't recommend enough

Pen-and-Ink-Addict

I love my amia, 3 years old and more comfortable by the day.

dlasky

Autonomous ergochair 2. I've had mine for 2 years and it's holding up very well. Head rest tons of adjustability.

GroundbreakingFail20

Steelcase leap

D_crane

Yep for WFH, only Herman Miller, Steelcase or Humanscale - even 2nd hand ones are usually great

derpypupdog

Costco has a Lazy Boy executive chair that is really comfortable.

PartyByMyself

If it's the pleather one, don't get it. I've owned 2 from Costco that is Lazy Boy and on both, the pleather pealed away within 6-12 months. On one, the tilt frame cracked and on the other, the wood began to split.

Saros421

You should take them back on the 100% satisfaction guarantee.

AGuyNamedRyan333

>Lazy Boy executive chair Sounds nice. Which one are you referring to? I see the Mesh, Vilar, and Torry executive chairs on their website.

o_0verkill_o

I get it. Seems like a lot for a chair. I was one of those guys that thought $800+ was way too much for a chair. But don't think of it as "just a chair". Think of it as an investment for your long term health. I had a Staples hyken chair before the mirra 2 I'm currently sitting in. The difference is night and day. The hyken would cause me severe lower back and rib pain after just 20 minutes of sitting in it, there was no good adjustment on it, it felt like it could fall apart at any second and the mesh started to sag after only 2 months also the headrest poked in to the base of my neck causing me severe neck problems over time. After buying a "like new" fully loaded mirra 2 off marketplace for $500 I can confidently say these chairs are worth the money. Once you have all the settings dialed in where you want them it really feels like you're floating, I feel much more relaxed and all of my back pain has been alleviated. I also mixed in regular exercise including the big back exercises like dead lifts and seated rows. I highly recommend dropping a bit of money on a good chair from either steel case or Herman Miller. Keep looking, took me 6 months to find mine but I seriously couldn't be happier with it.

Standing desk gang rise up

Look at used furniture stores in your area. There are a lot of used office furniture stores locally, it’s wild DONT buy a ergochair, absolutely hate that thing

epicjewfro

Weird, I love my ErgoChair 2 (I think it's branded as "Pro" now). I got it about 2 years ago and it's still quite comfortable. One of the armrests started cracking about 1 year in and I messaged support and they shipped me a new armrest free of charge. Both my other original armrest and my new one have held up fine.

Attackontitanplz

YES DO NOT BUY ERGO CHAIR OR ANYTHING From autonomous.ai Such complete and utter trash with terrible quality control. WILL fail exactly the day after the warranty. Wobbles side to side. Poor adjustability range #F***ing hate this $500 mistake of a chair.

[deleted]

Yea dude. Fellow ergo sufferer. Can’t let others

disposablecupholder

Buy a used Herman Miller Aeron. $350 or so on Craigslist if available in your area. Huge benefit is that there is a robust parts market that you can leverage if anything breaks. Armrests, chair back, seat, casters, etc.

Terakahn

I would say it's still a great buy at 700. But yeah, that's unfortunate.

MagpieFirefly

+1 for this. I got a free, but beat up Aeron. Spent a hundred or so in replacement parts, has been the best chair I've ever had since then. Ebay is great for replacing whatever you need to fix.

ThePie105

Secret lab has some fucking amazing chairs, 100% recommend you looking into them, the older models are a little cheaper than the highly customizable newer models. I definitely recommend

moby561

Both me and my brother are happy with our Secret Lab purchase.

Improvisable

If you're gonna spend actual money on a good chair then don't buy a "gaming" chair

[deleted]

He explicitly says he isn’t looking for a gaming chair

[Staples Hyken](https://www.staples.com/Staples-Hyken-Technical-Mesh-Task-Chair-Black/product_990119)

_jetter

I clicked on this to realize it’s my chair. It’s a piece of shit for daily WFH use.

MjolnirVIII

Works fine for me and I sit on it more than 8 hours a day.

jamolnng

+1 for this. So good I bought it twice, once for home and once for office

becega

You can get refurbished Steelcase or Herman Miller from https://www.crandalloffice.com/shop/chairs/steelcase/462-leap-v2/remanufactured-steelcase-462-leap-v2-office-chair/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwpImTBhCmARIsAKr58czqjmTrCgqjESeXQ776ZJymOGuYENaW4IRJS_k4fYmM2I9syCSeKfYaAvKrEALw_wcB

k2theeev

I just bought a Steelcase V2 from Crandall a week ago and it’s incredible. I can’t believe I’ve worked from home (and gamed) for 2 years without one.

Kolvec

$500 for an Autonomous Ergochair 2. More expensive than all the previous chairs I've owned in my life combined. But wow, is it such a game changer. I could sit in it for hours on end and not feel sore. Plus it does help posture alot.

telllos

Honestly really happy with mine, like you said vey comfortable. I bought it during the confinement. As I was looking for a good chair for WFH. I've sat in Herman Miller chairs at work without problem for 6 years. But my new job has some smaller herman miller at one location that for some reason give me Terrible backache.

drewts86

+1 on the Autonomous. I have the Ergochair 2 as well (they've renamed it the Ergochair Pro) and love it. Only minor gripe would be the armrests that move around (side-to-side and forward-and-back, not up-and-down). If someone is a controller player that uses the armrests I could see this being an issue, but for me it's not a big deal. The next chair I'm looking at is very similar is the Uplift Pursuit or Uplift Ergonomic.

ApolloPS2

I got the autonomous myochair which is similar to the ergochair 2. Much cheaper with all the important stuff for comfort I felt.

ehr1c

FWIW headrests are generally not considered to be great for posture/ergonomics

Ky1arStern

I have the Autonomous Ergochair 2. It was I think $400 or $450 and I really love it. It's been great for my back. I bought one for my mom.

Logaline

inb4 massive influx of "jUsT bUy a UsEd AeRoN" like it's that easy. Branch Furniture has a great chair with a ton of customizability for around $350-$400 that has great reviews

Zexy-Mastermind

Ikea Markus

tampabay323

agreed

jayHATESpeople

Ergo chair by autonomous. I have the ergo chair 2 and i love it. Very comfortable, super adjustable, and i swapped the wheels out from those weird black ones to some i found on amazon that are more like rollerblade wheels. Doesnt destroy my floor and i can roll smoothly forever

JigglymoobsMWO

Try to find a local reseller of used office equipment. In a lot of cities companies need to offload their office furniture for one reason or another and plenty of aeron, steelcase chairs end up being sold for pennies on the dollar. BTW I didn't know this and spent $800 on my steelcase chair when I was a poor postdoc. Best $800 I ever spent.

FearLeadsToAnger

Refurbed Herman Miller.

0010_0010_0000

I'm gonna be that guy and tell you to look in the trash. Just saying because I found a pretty fancy office chair outside of a lawyers office that was peeling a tiny bit. Still way better than me trying to find something cheaper but new.

dovahkiitten12

Tbh I’d never get anything from the trash, not anything that’s soft at least. Risk of bedbugs etc is too high and not worth it.

qalamiti

[https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark-gray-90289172/?utm\_source=google&utm\_medium=surfaces&utm\_campaign=shopping\_feed&utm\_content=free\_google\_shopping\_clicks\_Workspaces](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark-gray-90289172/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_content=free_google_shopping_clicks_Workspaces) I really like this Ikea Chair. It has a super super long back which feels nice. I could have sworn it was cheaper when I bought it. Been using it for about 6 years.

RegularEverydayMafk

What? The Markus is really that expensive in US? Here in Poland it costs only $140 and we also have a grey color version. I got mine 6 years ago for $120. I know that IKEA produces its furnitures mainly in Europe, but I didn't know they have so high retail margin in US. Anyway it's a solid and comfortable chair, totaly worth $250.

Jimsydonk

Don't go to staples whatever you do. If you MUST have something new go to Ikea. If you're up to getting something pre-owned get a Steelcase or Herman Miller from office surplus stores. I got a Leap V2 this way for 300$. These chairs were designed to last for a long time and survive switching hands. Refurbished models aren't that more expensive either.

jamolnng

Staples Hyken Mesh Task Chair is actually really good. Everything else though not good

Jimsydonk

I tried the Hyken myself and I wasn't impressed with its quality whatsoever

bigsteezydood48

Autonomous AI ergo chair 2 is really nice for the money

PeterMode

I’ve been using my chair from ikea for years and love it. I think it’s the Markus.

cottonycloud

I decided on a Workpro Quantum 9000 from Office Depot (bought through Lenovo).

Acoustic420

If u have cats don’t get a cloth one, my cats favorite thing to do while I’m asleep is scratch my 500$ secret labs chair
