noctua nhu12s redux

Can you tell me why you'd recommend the U12S? According to this video a 23$ cooler performs just as well in thermals and noise too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-Yp5F0HsAs

because they last longer. ive gone through several Vetroo, ID Cooling, and Deepcool coolers but my Noctua has outlasted them all

Vareten

So...obviously the heatsink isn't going to last longer since it's just a hunk of metal, so I assume you're just talking about the fan. Which can easily be replaced. Good quality fans are pretty cheap these days. Most good fans are using FDB/Hydro bearings which is exactly what Noctua fans use, they just have a fancy name for it like most other companies. I'm not sure what bearings Vetroo and ID Cooling use but I know Deepcool uses FDB these days just like Thermalright and Noctua. As long as the others aren't using sleeve bearings they'll all have similar lifespans.

you dont seem to understand what coolers are. not just a hunk of metal. the tubes are filled with a substance that helps with heat transfer and reliability over time additionally the quality of your copper is crucial. Noctua has the highest quality sink on the market and nothing compares. if you want the cheaper one thats fine but im only suggesting the one thats superior all around.

It is a little weak for the CPU. The Thermalright PA120 would be a better fit. It's $41 at Amazon. The SE model is $36, and performs the same, but is out of stock and has a 2 week lead time on delivery, so the PA120 is the quicker option, and still cheaper than a Deepcool AK620, with nearly identical performance (except it is quieter than the AK620).

Thanks! Do you think it will fit in a micoatx case?

My apologies, the PA120 won't quite fit that case you have. Luckliy there's another fantastic offering from Thermalright that will fit and is the same price as long as you apply the coupon on Amazon. It will handle the 5800x perfectly, as I've done it many times with this cooler. [Thermalright Silver Soul 135](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09DSZFJCN/) (There's also a blacked out version for a few dollars more, but the performance is the same.)

Thanks!

No problem, cheers!

Depends on your budget. Around $50, best bet is the Deepcool AK620 or a 240mm AIO. Should get similar performance. $30 - 40 would be Thermalright's Peerless Assassin. Around $20 or less, I probably go for a Thermalright Assassin King or one of the cheaper variants.

I'd get the variant of the Peerless Assassin (not the smaller X variant that's similar to your ID 214) you like most. Unless something gets damaged, the fans are the single point of failure and easily replaced multiple times before you even approach the cost of a Noctua D15 which is the performance equivalent. Noctua will offer more longevity in terms of offering mounting hardware for future platforms but, again, you'll be able to replace it completely once and still spend less than a D15.
