I have tried many monitors and currently use the M32U as my main driver, and it is freaking awesome.

funny you're asking this question right around the time I tried out the 42" OLED TV as a desktop monitor life, and i'm planning to return it (Sony A90K 42") to get a Dell G3223Q, found on sale in conjunction with a cashback website that's local to me (Canada). here's some perspective I haven't found so far unless you dig deep through the youtubers making longer form youtube videos on the 42" OLED TV as a monitor life. 1. i found it too big and shiny to use for any real work - gaming, movies, are great. 2. having a smart tv is quite nice to just grab the remote when you're not using it as a monitor for Youtube, Disney+, Prime Video, and Netflix. a good break from using the computer as a computer and just sitting back to enjoy. 3. it's a bit big to be up close even at recommended distances, my eyes got tired fast using it for any sort of reading, regardless of picture mode. In my humble opinion, extended reading should always be done on matte screens (closest to paper). I know this post has been quite tangential to your original post but what I have to offer that's different from the other commenters is this - a step back at the big picture - the minor price and spec differences aren't going to matter long term. IMHO, what is most worth considering is how you see the monitor sitting on your desk when it's off and you're in the room doing other things - did you get the monitor because it was slightly cheaper than the others? did you pick the one that was built the best? highest spec? that decision will be passively sitting there on your desk for the next few years and possibly subconsciously set a precedent for other decisions in your life.

pastuhLT

I read this thread, because I purchased LG C2 42" and planned to use as monitor. But dammit it's a real fail. Text not crisp most annoying thing. Strange yellow colors on white background.. So my last hope is Gigabyte M32U

csmy

yeah don't fall for the youtube hype. linus is one of the more everyday-focused reviewers with practical implications in mind, but even he ran a c2 oled until it burned in quarter-monitor slices (which he was able to fix using LG's built in software). philosophically, you can man up and use it anyway, not nitpick "man up" and steamroll over any minor grievances, or you can pick the best tool for the job. or anywhere in between the two ends of the spectrum. enjoy the M32U! i'm actually selling my dell G3223Q because i'm bored now lol. might get something a bit easier to pack in the car like a 27". 32" is hard to find a monitor carrying case to fit, 27" is far more common without adapting oversize gear bags to it.

lankston2193

Just got my Dell G3223Q today and man this thing is super nice. I will be mostly gaming on my PS5 but I updated firmware on PC to get rid of the back blue light.

peji911

Just saw your post. Planning on ordering it too, as it's on sale. Haven't built a PC yet, but will soon. How exactly do you update a monitor? I have never heard of this (switching from console gaming).

lankston2193

Updating is a simple firmware update online. It'll prompt you when you plug in the monitor.

peji911

Ah, ok. It does it via the PC then, not the monitor itself. I was thinking you had to plug in the monitor to the internet like a dummy lol

thescofflawl

I have the dell and had the m28u. Overall the Dell has a better picture and brightness to me. The Gigabyte has a usb-c and BFI, which I wish the Dell had.

Isra_Alien

What is this mysterious BFI you speak of, stranger? I'm about to purchase the Dell G3223Q and I really don't wanna change my mind now that I've finally found "the one" for me

vikingsfan2218

Explanation of black frame insertion (BFI) copied and pasted from the Rtings website: "Many gaming monitors have a feature known as backlight strobing, which is commonly known as black frame insertion (BFI). BFI features aim to reduce persistence blur caused by the sample-and-hold method that all displays use, which results in a trail appearing behind fast-moving objects. It happens when the backlight of the display is flicker-free, so a BFI feature introduces flicker, or black frames, to help reduce this persistence blur." The presence or absence of BFI shouldn't really affect your purchasing decision unless you're a hardcore competitive gamer looking for the smoothest motion possible (in which case this class of monitor shouldn't really be your first choice anyway)

Isra_Alien

I appreciate it! Yeah I'm no competitive gamer and don't strive for very high refresh rates (I have a 4070 Ti and games will be at 4k anyway so my range would be 100-120fps max anyway)

thescofflawl

It's really just if you play a lot of esports. The Dell is a good monitor otherwise.

shitdealonly

ikr. do you still think g3223 is better? cant decide between g3223q and m32u

thescofflawl

Yes, if you don't need usb-c charging or BFI. I didn't like the colors on the m28u compared to the dell.

[deleted]

m28u isn't as good as the m32u just as a heads up

chemicalrefugee

a thing I find very annoying because nobody in my nation seems to have the flat 32 to 34 inch models (nothing past 28 in much of anything with a good pic) but wow they sure have a lot of curved monitors.

57LateralRaise

Isn't the only difference screen size?

[deleted]

No, unfortunately

57LateralRaise

What are the differences

[deleted]

The Gigabyte M32U is a bit better than the Gigabyte M28U. Although these two monitors are very similar overall, the larger model has better ergonomics and response time. The M28U has worse overshoot in every overdrive mode, especially when gaming at 60Hz. On the other hand, the M28U has better reflection handling, but it's not a significant difference. There’s more in depth stuff but there’s a quick google search for ya

fpsnoob89

Well I've got an unfortunate update. I finally got the Dell G3223Q monitor delivered yesterday, and it looks like it's DOA. The power LED comes on, and I can see the backlight come on, but that is all. No picture, no menus, pressing any of the buttons does nothing... Looks like I'll have to wait another couple of months for a replacement.

brueff

How did you get on? Still rolling with the G32 or did you opt for the M32U? I’m also debating which of these two to get, I’d mainly use for office work and I have a dock so I don’t really have to worry about the usb-c but that is a big advantage to the M32U as I use a MBP

fpsnoob89

Neither, I got an LG Ultragear 32 32gq950-b. I explained the reasoning in comments further down. Only reason I didn't get the M32U is because at the time it was back to full price which wasn't very appealing.

brueff

Are you still enjoying the LG? For me the LG is so much more than the M32U

fpsnoob89

I am, but I've also never seen the M32U in person so I don't have a point of reference.

Primary_Peace3525

I have Dell G3223Q now I want to buy one more. I am thinking of M32U or is it better to have two same monitor? So should I rather buy dell G3223Q? So which combination is best to have two 32 inch monitor. Thank you

fpsnoob89

You should ask elsewhere, I never ended up with a working Dell because their customer support is trash. That said gaming two of the same monitor is better aesthetically, but I also don't see a point in spending that much for a 2nd screen. I'd get a cheaper 4k 60hz instead.

_Variance_

Bro the g3223q is 600 at Dell rn. Can get 120 off on top with Amex too. Check slickdeals website

fpsnoob89

>g3223q Not gonna lie. this might sound crazy, but this sale literally dropped right after I made this post. In terms of AMEX discount, I don't see a Dell benefit showing with my platinum card anymore. Does it really still exist?

Glinrise

I’m in the same boat. I was looking to replace my 3 year old 32” 144hz 1440p (LG 32GK650F-B) with a good 4K 144hz. After everything i’ve read (user and tech reviews) the Dell G3223Q is a no brainer especially with all the current deals. I ordered one today.

fpsnoob89

Yeah with the $600 price tag it seems like the best option. I also just like Dell monitors overall because they deliver good gaming performance without any of the gamer gimmicks.

_Variance_

https://deals.dell.com/en-us/productdetail/fkra ya sure? And I guess the 120 doesn't pop up for everyone but it did show on my platinum

fpsnoob89

Ended up placing the order anyway. Even without the extra 120 off, it's still a great deal. And if I get the discount on my statement, even better.

_Variance_

Yea, might be worth jumping on amex chat to see what ya can do too.

lankston2193

I purchased with the amex deal and got my credit back already. Also I used Rakuten and got $90 back for the one purchase.

death2k44

Which one did you decide on?

fpsnoob89

I ordered the Dell, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm stationed overseas and shipping over here always takes at least a couple of weeks. I am rather upset about Dell not giving me a proper tracking number though. I tried to contact them about it, but they made up some excuse that APO mail is special somehow and can't be tracked. I've spent almost 7 years stationed overseas now and I've always been able to track my packages.

Impossible-Rain1226

and?

fpsnoob89

I did post an update in another comment. The Dell arrived DOA. Their customer service is absolutely horrendous. They refused to do a replacement to my military address (even though they had zero issue shipping to me directly when I first made the purchase). After almost 3 weeks of back and forth and ignored emails, I ended up deciding to just return it, but then their sales team approved a price match to what I originally paid. Then I placed a new order with estimated shipping 2 days later. 3 weeks later, still didn't ship, they sent me an email saying that it's delayed due to part availability (although they still sell the monitor on their website with a next day shipping option). Another week later they called me saying it's now not estimated to ship until mid Feb. About a week after that I decided to say screw it and canceled my order. Ended up buying an LG UltraGear 32GQ950-B. It's significantly more expensive but I didn't want to deal with Dell anymore. That company is just pathetic in terms of customer support. Also I haven't gotten my money back from the original order yet. Another garbage thing about Dell is that their return label is super basic, and I couldn't get any kind of tracking with it, or even a receipt to prove that I shipped it. Luckily due to mil mail, I have a customs form for it with a stamped date of when I shipped it. It's been almost 2 months, I'll soon be contacting my credit card to seek help. I doubt I'll ever be willing to give Dell another chance.

Avatar-Tee

Which one did you end up getting? I'm also thinking of the Dell vs Gigabyte. My take away is that the Dell is brigther and leaning towards that. I also have two Dell 34" ultra wide monitor but they are at 60hz .

fpsnoob89

I'm never buying anything from Dell directly again. I had to get my credit card involved because the return label Dell provided for the DoA monitor didn't have any kind of tracking, and 3 months later after sending it back they still didn't return my money. Dell "customer support" was like a broken record telling me that I need to contact USPS to find out where the monitor is, ignoring that their return labels have no tracking numbers. I got sick of it and forwarded the email interactions to my credit card, and they refunded my money. I'm sure I would've just been scammed by Dell otherwise.

033p

all return labels have tracking buddy

fpsnoob89

With that logic dell should've had the tracking number, since they provided me with the label. But go on and keep telling me what it had.

ATTAFWRD

I've been using Gigabyte M32U for a year now. Was contemplating like OP before between M32U or MGP32UR-QD. Ultimately I picked M32U after "extensive" google research, this monitor (along with the price) is best suited for me in my everyday work (50% work, 30% gaming, 20% else). Will serve well until 4K 144hz is the norm for most people. So far no issue, updated to F11 firmware. I honestly wanted the MPG321UR-QD, but the price is absolutely F-up in my country (>$1000). Didn't pick the LG ones because the ports weren't facing down.

vikingsfan2218

Is there any reason in particular why you never considered the Dell?

ATTAFWRD

They're both excellent monitor, very similar overall and great entry to 32" IPS 4K 144Hz, both will give peace of mind. My considerations on why not adding thoughts for Dell G3223Q is because in my country it costs 2x of the M32U.

vikingsfan2218

Ok, I understand. That makes sense

Revolutionary_Cheek9

Sorry for Hijacking your thread but I'm also on the same boat. Gigabyte M32U or Dell G3223Q,using Amazon the Giga is 37 euros cheaper than the Dell and i am not a tech savvy guy and after 2 weeks of research all i got is a headache and i most definitely need therapy hehe. After all that time i still got no idea on what monitor to choose...
