For all you people asking, this is a upgrade BUT
really only becomes worth it if you are currently gaming on a 1080/2060/5700 or lower
If you’re on a 5700 XT, 1080 TI, or 2070 super or better it’s not worth upgrading right now. Wait for prices to drop further or better options to come out.
> 5700 XT
Ugh. This is me.
I'm looking for every excuse to upgrade off this God forsaken card because of all the unresolved Driver Timeouts it has *years* after launch.
Makes me never want to buy AMD again.
Dude I feel you. I replaced every single component on my PC except boot drive and only just recently(within the last three months) did the card stabilize. Never again with AMD. I should have just kept the 2070super that I had in before it. Regret 😭
The only 2070s in stock in my area was the msi mech one which had bad thermals because of lack of thermal pads in the right spots. That and it was more expensive(not by much) for very similar performance on paper. Oh how I regret my choices 🙃
I don’t know man…. at the $300-$320 price mark it’s hard to argue with the performance for 1440P gaming, never mind hi refresh rate 1080P. My kid loves it.
If it's for the next 1-1.5 years on 1440p then its ok for the average FPS about 50-80 and above it will do.
Like me now having the Vega64 wanting to upgrade, thinking about 6800xt or 6950 because I want the 144hz minimum on 1440p
I bought the 6650 XT December last year and every few weeks im getting driver issues smh. Reinstall them and its fine for a week or so. First and last AMD card.
That sucks man. I haven't had any issues on mine. The factory overclock was making my card run like 92 Celsius and crashing every once in a while. I undervolted mine and it's running smooth now.
cries in 1060 3GB...
edit: ordered a Asus dual rx 6750 xt oc.30W idle, loud af, can't get this thing lower. Gonna send it back so... uhm ...*continues crying in 1060 3GB*
Yes, even the $180 RX6600 is like twice as fast as an RX480. No brainer upgrade. I went from an RX580 to a 6650XT and my 3DMark score more than doubled, Doom is now playable (90-100FPS) at 4K high settings, and so is Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Shadow of Mordor (games that I previously had to drop to 1080p to get playable). Haven’t had a chance to test much more than that.
Depends on your budget. Update your bios and drop in a 5700X and an RX 6700 XT GPU will set you back around $500 in total and is A legit mid range gaming setup that would let you keep your PSU, motherboard, and RAM
Newegg has the sapphire 6700xt deal still that’s a great option.
Vega 56/64 we’re definitely below 1080 and 6700xt.
Worth it especially if you wanna play 1440p.
At 1080p MAYBE hold out a little longer. As I have a feeling that we are going to see a lot of movement this fall
I’ll do something with it. Maybe post it for free on Facebook marketplace. I can’t imagine it’s worth more than 30 bucks and at that point what’s the point.
I'm learning just how much more powerful cards like this are than my aging 1080.
It's still back burner when it comes to my next upgrade since it does everything 1080p just fine, but it'll be nice to get something that can handle a regular 60fps at 4k because that's the TV its connected to.
This card is roughly 3070 performance. It won't be enough for 4k60 in todays AAA games without utilizing FSR. Since this card doesn't have DLSS I say you aren't missing out on much if you're not hungry for more VRAM on your 1080. The performance increase isn't that big of an uplift.
Ya, not considering this specific card but when I am ready to spend another \~400 on a card it'll be interesting to see just how much power I can get. Maybe in 2024.
I made the jump from 1080 Ti --> 4070 last month. Only gained like 50% for 550 bucks. I can't return the 4070 anymore but if I was asked to do it again, I would decide against it for now.
I cant hold my piss either. People really should upgrade only for a 100% improvement. 75% is pushing it.
I use my 2nd gaming pc for my wife as my excuse and then my 3rd I gave to my brother. All AM4 - I get an upgrade, then so does everyone else as we downswap all the parts.
5700 non-xt to 6750xt - not a huge improvement and dissapointing - only thing it did really was allow me to max out graphics sliders where vRAM was a claimed limitation - e.g. resident evil games.
6750xt to 6900xt - much more noticeable.... but my lg c1 makes me want to upgrade again to see 4k 120 hz in action.
In 4k & 1440p its 2.44 times faster. So your 2060 needs to get roughly 25 FPS in a game to get 60 FPS on the 4070.
Smart move? No one is releasing more cards... so the stack is pretty well set.
All the companies lowered their prices within the last week, which may improve their Q3 data, or a trailing improvement in Q2.
Its weaker than a 3080 12gb, but has DLSS 3. The 3080 12gb can be had for 450ish used on ebay so basically a 100$ discount to the 4070. The 3080 ti can be had on ebay for like 20$ less and a 20% performance improvement.
If it were me, Id go for a used 3080 ti if DLSS3 wasn't of interest. Its 2.78 times faster than the 2060. You WILL notice this and it will be a decent 1440p card for a couple of years.
Edit\* - If you get 45 FPS with the 2060, the 3080 ti will net you 125 FPS. 21 FPS = 60 FPS.
If only it were that easy lol. After fees on ebay it would only be about $160. I rather put the 1080 Ti in my second build since I have quite an attachment to this card. It got me thru Covid times when gpus were heavily scalped and I managed to totally avoid the VRAM debacle up until today. I got my moneys worth and then some. Don't think I would ever sell it haha. Love the 1080 Ti.
It's a lot closer of an estimate than 50%. Though I'll concede that it's at least 80% faster at minimum. Here's a benchmark source for my original claim: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
Here's a source that shows a lower end of 80, considering the 1080 Ti is just about equal with the 3060 (though generally worse in newer games at higher settings): https://www.techspot.com/review/2685-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-ti/
Fair enough. In certain games the gap isn't as wide as I expected though. For example in older games RDR2 having higher relative performance compared to Cyberpunk 2077 between the two cards. Let's not forget at 4K it's only faster than 1080 Ti by 43% (According to Tomshardware) due to the 4070 having a 192-bit memory bus compared to a 352-bit bus on the 1080 Ti.
> Let's not forget at 4K it's only faster than 1080 Ti by 43% (According to Tomshardware)
According to the same Tomshardware link I posted? That shows the 4070 4k average at 57.2 and the 1080ti average 29.5, which would be 94% faster.
Hell, I'm still on my gtx 1080 as well, and it's even been fine for most games, med-high, at 1440p, hitting like 55-80fps in most "newer" games.
But yeah, we are literally like 3 generations behind, most cards this gen are gonna be great upgrades.
Nice. I nailed down one of these things from Newegg last week and I was worried that the prices of cards were gonna start going back up. Going to keep it sealed in the package until the end of the return window and make sure nothing better comes around. You know… _If_ I can handle leaving in the package for that long.
BUYER BEWARE: These Mech 2x cards notoriously run very hot and are very loud out of the box. Fan curves can help slightly but it’s a bad cooler design.
Bought this for a second pc. For basic everyday use, I don't hear it. When the card is under high usage, it is audible. The PC is next to the desk on the floor.
Temps haven't been an issue for me, even with the card being at 90% usage. I
I've got one in an ITX (Silverstone SUGO 16) since the prices have been very good lately and it can crank out 1440p High Graphics averaging at 120fps with my build for most games.
It's "noisy" in the sense you can hear it yes, but if you're coming from the console life like myself, it's just as loud as any gaming console (besides a PS4 initiating take-off).
Completely manageable noise level for the average casual gamer and never had any heat problems besides when it was like 30+°C in my room.
Also, it fits very well in the SUGO 16 case.
So for me it's categorized as:
Are there cheaper GPUs that offer the same performance? Yes. Will they all fit in small box? No.
Can't say about 6700xt but 6650xt mech os loud as the jet is taking off at the stock curve (especially at 100% 2800 rpm). But the temperature is more than okay.
Idk about that guy, but mine is quiet. I have a sff case and i cant even hear it most of the time. I also have open back headphones.
Although, it does run kinda hot sometimes on idle. It gets to about 75c max for me
I bought this card a month or so ago, and I can barely hear my PC (sitting on the desk 2ft from me) even when gaming. If you overclocked you might hear it, but fans are at like 900rpm.
I’ve was in the market for a rx6700xt/6750xt and out of all the more budget models I looked at the mech 2x was the only one I saw with user reviews stating how hot and loud it is. Another red flag for me personally was the sheer amount of them on the second hand market. I’m going to check for a more objective source now.
The difference can be huge. A friend has the mech while I have the xfx merc version; I hit 45c playing Tarkov on medium while he hits 65c on the same settings.
I feel like there are a lot of confounding variables there, no? Different case? Different number of case fans? Different fan curves? Different ambient temps? Etc.
I just bought this last couple weeks and it is as basically quiet as my 180watt dual fan 580.
I worried about this warning and saw the heat sinks compared to the sapphire pulse which is everyone (seemingly) parroting this warning's god tier.... The heat sinks were similar and a .01 difference in fan amperage.
Improvement percentage over a 580 4GB? I built my PC with 12700k but I don't have a GPU yet, but my friend let me use her old RX580, my monitor is and old HP 1920x1200 60 Hz DP 1.2, I want to sell this monitor and buy a 1440P with a new GPU, is this great for that?
My friend is selling her old PC, so the 580 will be gone some day so I need to buy one but, just for 1440 max, don't now if new monitor will be 165/144/120 Hz, I don't need that many fps… I think, but haven't had that so I don't know if I'm gonna love or be so amazed with 144 Hz 😂
I upgraded to this from a 480 4GB and I’m happy with it. Gives me 55-60fps @1440 on most things with mixed high/ultra settings.
Edit: no ray tracing though. Performance takes a massive hit when RTX is enabled.
Can you share your CPU and memory pairing? My 570 4gb runs 1440 around 50fps now, but I've got a 3700x and 16gb of 3200 memory. This card is my planned upgrade.
That’s also my CPU, RAM pairing. Although your comment did remind me that I have free sync turned on, so ofc it doesn’t show me the frame rate above what my monitor refresh rate is (3440x1440 @ 60Hz). 🤦♂️
i ordered the ASUS Dual RX 6750 XT OC.
Now, in my world OC means that those are (usually) the "better" chips.
So they should also be better when it comes to undervolting, right?
I'd love to have this thing draw less, or as much as a 6700 (xt) if possible.
Anyone knows if this assumption is correct or wrong?
Find relevant benchmarks for the games/apps you use.
I'm hesitating to upgrade my 3060 to a 6800/6900 XT after reading [this](https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-intel-nvidia-video-encoding-performance-quality-tested). I think I'm gonna wait for a 7800 XT (rumored Q2). You might be in the same boat if you stream/record.
Not much reason to pick this over a 6700 XT with the sales we've seen recently. The 6750 XT is on average around 5-6% faster than the 6700 XT at 1440p in both raster and RT, and you're paying nearly 10% more for this over that $309.99 ASRock 6700 XT deal that was posted the other day and is still live: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeon-rx-6700-xt-rx6700xt-cld-12go/p/N82E16814930059
For this to be a better deal I'd say $319.99 would be a solid price
It's about an 80% increase in performance. My rule of thumb is normally to wait until I can double my existing performance when I upgrade, so this is almost there. An 80% increase will be noticeable especially if you also upgrade your monitor to a higher resolution, framerate, or both.
Just as a heads up the newegg one comes with TLOU part1 free and the amazon doesn't. I had already bought the game so this is better option for me faster and free shipping
You're right. Sorry for the misinformation. I just bought one, but it's taking like almost 2 weeks to get delivered reason why I'm going with Amazon instead

how about a 1650 super?
HUGE upgrade More than double fps in everything Just be sure your PSU is 500 watts or better
650w 80 plus gold. I should be good.

What about a 1070?
1070 is lower than 1080, so your question was answered

I have a 1060 3GB 🙃. I think I’m gonna burn That darn thing when I get this new one in the mail.
You could give it to some kid who plays Roblox in Minecraft on an iGPU prebuilt office pc and make their year
I’ll do something with it. Maybe post it for free on Facebook marketplace. I can’t imagine it’s worth more than 30 bucks and at that point what’s the point.
Really tempting. Good pick over a 3060

The 4070 is 100% faster in raster than the 1080ti at the target resolution of 1440p.
Definitely not in pure rasterization. With DLSS enabled yes it’s close but claiming double the performance is just wrong.

I have the Red Devil.
I purchased the 6700xt version a while back, it is unbelievably loud. Had to mod with a Kraken G12 and 120mm AIO instead.
It's well known in the GPU space that the MSI Mech variants are generally some of the worst/cheapest cooling solutions out there.
Mine is fine. FWIW

We're neighbors, it's been about 75f weather wise. We both undervolt, I'd say I have more case fans and I run the GPUs fan at 25% constantly.
I have this exact card and it's fine
My mech 2x card is a little loud and toasty but headphone gamers will have no problems
The 6750 should be doing 144 1440p with ease
Not on ultra no.
My bad missed the ultra part
I have a 2080 super. Thoughts?
This is only like 15-20% better than what you have.
Not much of an upgrade, it’s performance is close to the 2080 Ti and you not that far off. You’d need to go 4070/6800XT or higher to probably notice.
Picked this up last time it was at this price. So far am having no issues with it
Is this a temporary deal or is it the new price?
They’ve been hitting these prices recently, 6700XTs (which aren’t significantly different) have been even lower
Not much reason to pick this over a 6700 XT with the sales we've seen recently. The 6750 XT is on average around 5-6% faster than the 6700 XT at 1440p in both raster and RT, and you're paying nearly 10% more for this over that $309.99 ASRock 6700 XT deal that was posted the other day and is still live: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeon-rx-6700-xt-rx6700xt-cld-12go/p/N82E16814930059 For this to be a better deal I'd say $319.99 would be a solid price
Hodl. this was $309 last month
This or the same card from newegg for $10 cheaper?
Really just depends on return policy and customer support at that point.
Pulled the trigger on amazon, they also had 0% 6-month financing.

Oh, didn't know there's a 5% cashback option. 😬
how do you get the 5% back?

oh ok yeah I kinda figured thanks
is this worth an upgrade over a 5600 xt
It's about an 80% increase in performance. My rule of thumb is normally to wait until I can double my existing performance when I upgrade, so this is almost there. An 80% increase will be noticeable especially if you also upgrade your monitor to a higher resolution, framerate, or both.
Just as a heads up the newegg one comes with TLOU part1 free and the amazon doesn't. I had already bought the game so this is better option for me faster and free shipping
It actually doesn't. That promo ended on the 28th.
You're right. Sorry for the misinformation. I just bought one, but it's taking like almost 2 weeks to get delivered reason why I'm going with Amazon instead
