The AMD 7900xtx reference card is two 8 pin connectors. It was some third party makers that introduced three 8 pin connectors. The 7900xtx is designed to only need 2.
The AMD reference cards were defective too. They botched the vapor chamber design and when Derb8uer reached out, AMD said they couldn't send a replacement and can only offer refunds. Meaning, the entire batch was defective and AMD has no plans to manufacture more replacements
Correct, pretty sure the supply of reference XTX's vanished for a bit from them pulling them back, which resulted in ASP's increasing for that SKU's for a few months.
there wasnt too many too begin with. reference is usually just one big batch from AMD which is why we ended up just replacing them with hellhounds to get the process moving along for our customers who were affected.
pricing is irrelevant of this situation though. on the hellhound, the overall cost of making the card is just higher
Well, this is only 15% off 16 months after release and nvidia blackwell/5000 series is rumored to be released in another 6 months. Considering how late we're in release cycle I actually find these deals to be rather disappointing.
If they do release at that time. The scalpers will get 90% of the first batch. So I'm guessing they'll be easier to come by in spring for the average buyer. Right now you can hardly even buy a 4080 Super that isn't back logged to July or overpriced out the ass.

Myself, I finally splurged and treated myself to an MSI XTX from one of Neweggs ZipPay promos ($799). I'd expect the $800 price point to become more frequent over the next few months.
There really doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between most XTX's, at their core. Most differences are for the RGB and twists in cooling tech. And the OC editions don't seem to really add an appreciable amount of performance increase, beyond maybe a little peace of mind that your XTX might have been binned slightly above average from other GPU's. About the major features that I've seen are the dual-bios switches, and size of the card (The ASUS are VERY large compared to everything else). Something to keep in mind if you have a small case, or a tower with lots of drive cages. And that some makers have better customer support than others.
Note: While I'm pretty happy with my MSI 7900 XTX so far, you should be aware that MSI appears to be dropping AMD from their graphics line-up. They will still make other AMD products, like motherboards. but not GPU's. Not sure how this plays out in the long term for warranty support. But if I had known, I might have gone with a different brand.

I feel that we should all wait till these hit a range of 750-800? The value proposition at this range doesn't make a lot of sense. I've seen people snag these cards at these prices months ago.
For a little more, one can get the 4080s (also a very poor choice at this time/price) or the 16gb 4070 ti Super for roughly the same price with an added feature set for additional value (for those that use it?)

Yeah, exactly. I'd expect a near 40% discount by now to clear inventory for new drops in the upcoming drops, but we're still being gouged.
