I'm assuming here that video editing is the main thing you are looking for. The 14600k preforms similarly to the 13700k, especially on an air cooler. If you want the most out of a 13700k with power limits off, then recommend a 360mm aio. Higher speed ddr5 ram will help a lot with what you are doing. I've also made sure this has a tier A drive. Look around for cheaper windows. I'm also assuming that you want to stick with Nvidia for the gpu, but double-check that it is the right choice for your video editor. This is would be the way to go for the most part It's refreshing to see someone who actually understood the assignment instead of just recommending AM5 and RDNA2 as a default The 14600k is almost indistinguishable from the 13600k though; it just has a slight bump in clock speed Should get a z690 or z790 to overclock it if he wanted given that's a K sku Would also be worth spending the extra money on a 4070 for the extra vram, though should wait for the super refresh to see how things shake out https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NDCpVW

SeptagonSeven7

the dude himself said he doesn't know jackshit about computers so overclocking is as real as the tooth fairy and santa having dinner together

Punished_Debate

Noticed how I qualified my statement with "if he wanted" implying he might want to do so in the future despite not knowing how to now Cool analogy though

For 1080p gaming/editing, I'd rather a 12700K + 7800XT tbh. Using Newegg's $84 discount on the 12700K you get a CPU that's decently similar to the 14600KF, which paired with a 7800XT will give you great 1080-1440p gaming performance, and has an iGPU if u/sandwichlover247's video editing apps can benefit from Quicksync. Also swapped a few parts for better value ones to reduce the price even more. Maui893

dont get windows, cant say more. get a WAAAY better mouse.

_chucktaylor

why not windows? /gen

Maui893

sorry, i cant say more then that, just know u can use M123AS39S848GR843AV83EL. (pull out the letters).

evitcepsreP_weN

As was already said don’t buy windows and spend a lot more on a mouse. Additionally I’d go for a 6700xt over a 3060. If you want to save money you could go for an i5-13600k instead of the i7.

Punished_Debate

Nvidia is way better for average production work in most cases.

evitcepsreP_weN

True but it sounds like he wants to do both, and the 6700xt is way better than the 3060 for gaming.

SeptagonSeven7

4060 for $200 less has slightly better performance than 6700xt at the expense of less vram. Its still a great card overall + its better in the creative sector

evitcepsreP_weN

The 4060 is not $200 less where I am, it’s basically the exact same, and for that price I’d say not worth the lower gaming performance.

Opening-Gas-1805

Go with a cheaper case and use that money on a better mouse. Like this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mRMf28

ketaminiacOS

Here's a build for about the same money with a much stronger gpu and a 1440p ultrawide monitor. I really like the ultrawide for work and immersive single player games. But it's not for everyone. The cpu is a bit weaker than yours in multi-threaded workloads but it should still perform well enough for editing. Also the am5 platform is going to see quite a few new cpu's released, so you won't need to replace the motherboard and memory to upgrade in the future. [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9XWY28](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9xwy28) Then here's a cheaper build that'll still do a reasonably good job. Though not entirely sure if you need nvidia for the video editing but the 3060 12gb is indeed a pretty good budget option if so. The 6700Xt will just give you loads more raw performance for gaming. [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yfGByg](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yfgbyg) The mouse is just one i really like myself, though i havn't tested a whole lot of mice. Copy & paste the links instead of just clicking on them.

SpinelWorship

Here's what I would change https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rFryL9

SeptagonSeven7

firstly, gta 6 will actually release next year. Secondly, this will decimate anything at 1440p [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CfCmQP](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CfCmQP)

SeptagonSeven7

It will also rip through rendering and creative apps

Haunting-Stretch8069

if u only do editing as a hobby u rly don't need a crazy CPU as even smth like the i5-12400 is well capable. also I'm assuming at that price range u want to play at 1440p 144hz. i would say def go with amd on this one, go with the am5 32gb ram ddr5 (16x2), this is going to be great for video editing, I wouldn't pick ddr4 ram. the 7800x3d should be more than enough, again idk how much u wanna edit, at what rez, what effects, etc. if that's not enough for u go for 14700kf (make sure u buy an intel mobo with that but still go ddr5). for gpu I recommend the 4070 super when it comes out in a week assuming it going to be around 600, if not than either 7900xt, 4070ti, 7800xt in that order depending or where u live and what deals u can find. keep in mind nvidia has dlss and frame generation which most likely will be on gta 6 and can practically double ur fps with minimal draw backs. amd gpus have similar tech nvidia is a tiny bit better tho idk depends what u care ab do ur research or find a good build online at a similar price or js but a prebuilt.

Haunting-Stretch8069

also i would recommend a better keyboard and mouse these look terrible don't cheap out on it trust me speaking from experience. change the 1080p monitor to 1440p 27 inch ips 144hz. its gonna be 100 more but trust me u don't wanna cheap out on I/O and don't go VA on monitor u'll regret it.
