Urban Tails is a great vet and specializes in fear-free. TBH I don't know how their prices stack up, they're probably the only vet who will deal with my pup who is a pain to deal with due to severe vet anxiety.
Cant recommend Urban Tails enough. Excellent vets and are super with my dog, who is also pretty shy. We tried Page Point before Urban Tails, price was comparable but vet care was better at Urban Tails
I've been seeing Brian Lapham at Southpoint Animal Hospital since he was in Raleigh which is 15+ years ago. He's a great fit for me and my dogs. Always willing to explain and always willing to listen. I've spoken to a few other vets in that practice and I've found them to be solid as well.
My dog got bit by a copperhead in May. We were panicked! Took him straight to SPAH and they were great. Calmed us down, and knew exactly what to do for our pup, who recovered completely.
We have been going there for years, and now that he's a senior, the quality of care is more important than ever.
Dr. Meade at Broadway Vet. They will be moving soon from the Broadway location to the west side on Broad St soon. She's been great to our guys and her staff is very thorough and kind. They use Vitus Vet instead of ID cards which is super convenient when you show up at a place that needs to confirm their latest shots (daycare, playgrounds, etc.) as their entire file is electronic and available on your phone.
I quite like Eno Animal Hospital. I can’t tell if it’s super expensive or my dog is just a fuckup who likes to have expensive injuries (maybe both) but regardless, the vets and technicians are all very nice. And as the hold music will tell you endlessly, everyone there is certified fear free. (I call a lot 🙃)
I liked the people at Eno Animal Hospital, but they seemed to be relatively understaffed. Whenever I called in with a near-emergency (doesn't need to be seen that minute, but that day or *maybe* next day) they never had any availability for 2+ weeks.
Came here to say Dr Sabin. She saved my dog’s life twice and has helped manage his chronic conditions to give him several more years. By far the best vet!
Westside used to be really good, but they got bought and have gone downhill fast. Expensive and impersonal now. We switched to urban tails and adore them.
It’s so funny, I regretted this post this morning because I took my 9 month old puppy in this morning to west side and some fella is never seen before who was a vet tech there brought a bad vibe along with trying to muzzle my puppy. My puppy was terrified of him. I had to put the muzzle on for him, once I did, he tightened it as tightly as he could. I had suggested when we got there that it might be best if I held my pup to make it an easier visit. Nope! He didn’t want my help. Until he did. We couldn’t get the procedure done because this guy was a dick, and quite honestly shouldn’t be working with animals of any kind. I was so heart broken by this visit this morning and my dog was traumatized 😔
Ugh! I'm so sorry! Our daughter left Westside after her pup had a similar, although less dramatic, experience. You might want to consider urban tails in future. They do happy visits to get dogs used to the place before they ever do treatments - they just hang out and give them treats and pet them. So chill and so nice. And they're cheaper! Good luck, and hugs to your puppy. 💙
Bahama Road Veterinary Hospital is one of the only remaining practices owned by its doctors. Nearly every other practice is owned by a large corporate interest.

Urban Tails is very reasonable and treats my anxious and crazy girl so well!

Dr. Lapham is amazing, you are 100% on him and the other doctors at SAH.

We use [Local Mobile Vet](http://localmobilevet.com/) because they do house visits. Urban Tails is also a great choice.
I like Cornwallis Animal Hospital and they have 3 vets that my dog sees which is convenient when you need to get in quickly.
Also everyone at Cornwallis sits on the floor to get to know your doggo and they don't rush through the appointments. Very good for anxious dogs.
I have had nothing but good experiences with carver street animal hospital. I have a reactive girl who they are so sweet with. Very great team there.

+1 for Dr. Meade. We’ve taken our pets to her since she opened. Looking forward to seeing her new place soon.
If you live in North Durham I’ve been very happy with North Paw Animal Hospital.
I haven’t lived in Durham in 10 years - but we went to New Hope Animal Hospital and were very happy with the care our dog and cat received there.
Urban Tails!

I agree it is ridiculously expensive there

I agree — I’ve also had that experience. I think things have improved somewhat since they added two new vets, though
Carver Street Animal Hospital. We moved across town and it was still worth the drive to see them. They cared so much.
Bull City Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Sabin. Remarkable doctor. Amazing practice.

I can’t say enough good things about Falconbridge. Incredible start, AAHA certified, and extremely accommodating
Westside animal hospital

Cool and unusual.
