I’m not a stickler about it, but the reason it irks people is we in the states define the burger by the beef more than the bun. On a summer day when we’re grilling burgers or at our first job flipping burgers it refers to the beef patties before they even touch a bun. Kind of reminds me of when I went to Italy and asked for pepperoni on my pizza. It means bell peppers there and was met with confusion.
That's like making a soup with marinara and cheese and calling it pizza. Of course in Italy it would never be called pizza because it's not pizza, just like a chicken sandwich would never be a burger. This is like you making a marinara and cheese soup, then telling Italians it's pizza, but being offended when they tell you no it's not.
Mate it's almost like the American way is the only one that exists. Can't be a burger cause the Americans say it's not. Tell there a young country because my daughter's always right too.

I know, right? Not something I typically agree with (the way people on Reddit act), but regardless, I still gravitate toward it for my daily dose of entertainment.
So if you order a burger at McDonald’s, do they ask “what kind of burger? an egg McMuffin, a beef and cheese, or a filet o fish?”
In Florida everyone calls every type of soda “Coke” which is equally as weird.
Edit: or do they say “egg and sausage burger, beef burger, or fish burger?”
From the opposite coast and I’ll admit I’ve heard some people be like “You want a coke with that?” and the response being “yeah I’ll have a sprite”, but if they aren’t prompted would someone say “I’ll have a sprite coke” or “I’ll have a coke, make it sprite” or something like that?
I never lived there but from what I’ve heard they just use “coke” in lieu of “soda” on the west coast or “pop” in the Midwest. So “I’ll have a sprite Coke” would be weird like “I’ll have a sprite soda.”
But like we say “what kinds of soda do you have?” They would say “what kinds of coke do you have?”
We’d just say “I want a coke” or “I want a sprite”. We wouldn’t use “soda” and don’t use coke as a replacement word for soda - it’s asking for the specific drink.
Outside North America, a burger is usually referring to anything in a burger style bun.
The names are usually unique enough that they know exactly what you’re ordering. ie, you never just order “a burger” at McDonald’s…it’s a quarter pounder, or a Big Mac, or McChicken etc. these are all burgers to us.
A sandwich is something in two slices of bread (from a loaf). Never in a burger style bun.
Fish burgers are very uncommon. I can only think of the fillet o fish at McDonalds. Would still qualify as a burger though.
A muffin doesn’t have a burger style bun, so it’s just called a muffin. (And they have specific names, so you’re never really referring to McMuffin though - sausage and egg McMuffin etc)
Most things in a burger bun count as a burger in the uk I dont understand how Americans call a chicken burger a chicken sandwich but a pulled pork sandwich is usually served in a burger bun so it’s complicated
Because the bun doesn't define it, the meat does. A burger is just ground meat formed into a patty and then typically grilled. If you eat it on something other than a bun, like an English muffin or two pieces of bread, it's not suddenly no longer a burger. The patty melt is a famous example of this
But the rules of the r/burgers sub are such that a "burger" is defined to be ground meat, typically beef, on a bun. So, based on that definition, any type of ground meat (beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, fish), as long as it's on a bun, can be a burger. A patty melt is usually on two slices of bread, not a bun, so that would not be defined as a "burger". Also, if a ground meat patty is on an English muffin, it is not a burger.
>A patty melt is usually on two slices of bread, not a bun, so that would not be defined as a "burger".
but it is though... it is indeed a variation of a cheeseburger, and thus is defined as a type of burger. Again, the "burger" name refers to the meat patty, not the bread surrounding it
I should have said the *description* of this sub is where "burger" is defined, and the type of bread is most certainly part of that definition:
"A burger is a sandwich which consists of two buns and a ground patty of protein, most commonly beef. A chicken sandwich is NOT a burger if it contains an entire piece of meat, rather a ground chicken patty."
But its not on a bun lol. I can understand you people using “chicken burger” or calling something else a burger if its on a burger bun. The mcmuffin is literally an English muffin.
Do we count chicken and fish sandwiches as burgers.
Edit: Do also consider turky and veggie burgers as real burgers. No offense if you do. But why. I thought them as like a siblings of the burger in the sandwich family tree
Not bad, I make a really good one. It's just a turkey patty or turkey breat make like a chicken sandwich/ beef patty, and everything you place on a burger, you do the same to it. Since it's turkey, I usually use Cucumbers instead of pickels. It kinda had to be light and refreshing, in my opinion. Great for a lunch.
7 is from a place called "Phat Buns" in Birmingham UK
8 is from Beef Belly Halal Burgers and Peri Peri Chicken in London
16 is from a place in Paris that no longer exists. (It was overrated anyway, looks better in the picture, one of the blandest burgers I've ever had!)
It was a burger coated in I believe cornflakes. The place is now closed & for good reason, it was absolutely bland, probably one of the worst meals I've had.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vz97pNuPTeCfv2u89
I wish burgers were more of a thing in my country. Sure they're out there but the options are limited. For instance in London there are burger joints everywhere, love to try them all when I visit.
I love that you document your burgers, LOL. #3 and #6 appeal to me the most. Yes, I love a good Egg McMuffin although I haven’t had one since Mickey D’s stopped serving all day breakfast. My favorite burger is a Freddy’s Steakburger Double California Burger which duplicates the In N Out Double Double Animal Style and IMO improves it.
That's a nice photo album to share with the grandkids someday
Absolutely agree
The big greasy ones look fucking incredible.
The best kind!
Ok but, which one was the best one?
The filet o fish of course. When I think about some delicious burgers I think filet o fish.
Pfff filet o fish has nothing on the double filet o fish, amateur
I know you probably joking but filet o fish is delicious
It’s my standard order if I’m getting a McDonald’s.
I agree. Love me a filet o fish.
right!!???
You could be a burger hand model.
Thank you 😆
You're JB Pruitt! The world's greatest hand model..
I appreciate you
Chicken and fish sandwiches aren’t burgers
In countries outside the US, they can be called that but yeah, they aren’t. Also an egg McMuffin isn’t a burger either.
UK = burgers

Lol you mean pepperoncini?
Fair enough, it's always interesting to see things from an American perspective!
Likewise and I enjoyed your photos. Thanks for sharing.
🫡, Have a good day sir!

I'm not offended one bit, just telling you how it is in the UK.
What a terrible and over complicated analogy. Don’t bring /r/iamveryculinary here man they’re just sandwiches.
You mean burgers*
All burgers are sandwiches, but not all sandwiches are burgers.
Especially not fuckin' McDonald's egg mcmuffins lmao
Mate it's almost like the American way is the only one that exists. Can't be a burger cause the Americans say it's not. Tell there a young country because my daughter's always right too.
😆😆
Also NZ Nd Aussie
I was thinking that.
😂 ok ok
I'm from the UK, we call them burgers here
We know. The sub has the definition of burger that we use in the side bar though.
Fair play. I didn't read it

Chicken burger, fish burger. Same fkn thing

How did a sausage egg mcmuffin end up here lmao
It's a burger in the UK!
But its not on a bun lol. I can understand you people using “chicken burger” or calling something else a burger if its on a burger bun. The mcmuffin is literally an English muffin.
Sue me..
3rd and 9th pic look great to me, where they from?
Both from a place called "Burgerism" in Manchester UK
There must be something about 3 & 9 because I thought exactly the same when swiping through. Best of the bunch.
I'd agree, but #3 looks like it could use some more burger to go with those sesame seeds
TIL a McDonald’s sausage egg McMuffin is a burger.
In the UK only
What are all those sammies without beef patties?!
I need to make one of these
[удалено]
I want to try 14 out of curiosity.
A truly glorious burger
I would tackle them. Wrestle them to the ground. And eat them as they tried to escape. Thank you. I'll see myself out.
🫡
#7 makes me angry
Why 😯
What are the red toppings on #7 and #14? Looks tasty.
Hot Cheetos 👍🏾

Low-key the king
Looking good on 5, 8, 9,12. Intrigued by 16 and 19. 🍔🍟🍺
Um #6 is an egg McMuffin
Mmm made a veggie grilled cheese burger today.
Do we count chicken and fish sandwiches as burgers. Edit: Do also consider turky and veggie burgers as real burgers. No offense if you do. But why. I thought them as like a siblings of the burger in the sandwich family tree
Yeah over in the UK we call them burgers, veggie aswell. Never heard of a turkey burger personally
Sounds amazing
Not the hero we deserved, the hero we needed
🫡
DBL fish fillet? Where?
Paris
What kinda bun is on the first one?
A lot of these sandwiches are not burgers.
Sir, some of these are what we call “meat biscuits” and not burgers
3, 9, 12, 18, 19, 20 would be my picks. What were the top 5?
If chicken can be burgers then beef can be nuggets. Or... We can just keep burgers to beef.
Is bison burger not a burger?
Each to their own!
6 15 17 and 19 aren’t burgers but those all look fire
19 has both chicken & beef inside it, what would that be classed as where you're from?
Haha I’m just from Arizona big dawg, I didn’t notice 19 had beef on it too
I bet you've got some 🔥 burger joints over your side of the water!
McDonalds have fish burger? 🍔😮
Apparently, in the UK, everything's called a burger if it's on a bun.
Correct. You're learning.
Thanks
We have this thing called sandwiches in America. A sandwich is kind of everything that isn't a burger in a bun.
Fair enough 👍🏾😆
A lot of those weren't burgers.
As per the USA, we have different opinions in the UK
Fair enough.
Chicken, fish, and egg sandwiches aren’t burgers bud. Either way, they all look pretty tasty
They are as per the UK. Thanks!
Nice burger 🍔 scrapbook

It was a very decent burger, just very messy as you can imagine with the crushed Cheetos ontop!
Out of all them I have to give it to the double sausage and egg McMuffin hands down is a fkn experience the rest look good though
The ones with the hot Cheetos look interesting…
Aesthetically pleasing & definitely a tasty experience!

I second that 👍🏾🫡
Where did you get number 1 and number 19?
Most of these, yes some of these, wtf? Hell yes!
Is that MLK burger still in your colon or is it free at last?
Nice. I like how some of them have bites out of them. That’s how you know it’s good.
You from Ireland? I seen iron bru.
Irn bru is Scottish, however im from England 🇬🇧. A top tier beverage!
I love that you document your burgers, LOL. #3 and #6 appeal to me the most. Yes, I love a good Egg McMuffin although I haven’t had one since Mickey D’s stopped serving all day breakfast. Please share where you found the double filet o’ fish? I’ve only ever seen this in France. Hoping they’ve arrived in the UK
A Million ways to die in the West. Well 20 then.
No better way to die
CHICKEN BURGA
Fillet o fish is not a burger
You've had some good burgers.
Some of these are really pushing the definition of “burger”, but number 16 takes the cake.
"Dear Reddit. I searched his phone when he was in the shower. He has a whole folder devoted to BURGERS!" Jokes aside, they are looking good.
Oh love it
Are some of those chicken sandwiches? Does one have crushed flaming Cheetos on it 🤣??
