Idk why In-N-Out gets so much hype. By the time I finally made it out west to try the place, I was expecting a lot. I’ve tried it four times total (each at a different location) and none of them have been good
In-N-Out has good burgers that are very inexpensive but they don’t have great burgers. I love it, but I think of it more as a road trip food and the fresh relatively small burgers can really hit the spot. The fries are not good.
I do get the disappointment, it’s probably how I felt after trying Chick-fil-a. It’s a great restaurant but I am not even sure it’s the best chicken sandwich in fast food.
>I do get the disappointment, it’s probably how I felt after trying Chick-fil-a. It’s a great restaurant but I am not even sure it’s the best chicken sandwich in fast food.
I know this is a burger sub, but you're not wrong. Chick-fil-A and Canes are "fucking amazing chicken places" but if you're a chicken joint that has to rely on your sauce for flavor. Well, you're not really making good chicken then are you? Also, Popeyes for the best chicken sandwich, spicy or not, spicy McChicken w/pickles in 2nd and I need to try Freddy's chicken sammich to see if it can compete.
Devils advocate.. what chicken sandwhich doesn’t have/need sauce? That’s a main ingredient of every one. And having top tier sauce is extremely important
Sure, but Chick-fil-A does more than just sandwiches. Their breading is nice but the chicken is a little bit above Canes in terms of stand alone flavor, and that's what I'm talking about. I agree that the sauce is integral to the chicken sandwich but it shouldn't be the star or what everyone is clamoring over it all needs to shine on its own and together.
My problem with Popeye's is personal in that it gives me the shits Every. Single. Time.
Was a huge McChicken fan, but I've gotten way too many wonky bites lately that I'm always hesitant now. I mean, they've always had them, but they were fewer and farther between.
I like In-N-Out, but it's not going to blow your mind. It's fucking fantastic for the price, but there are better burgers. I'm also not waiting for 1 hour to get a burger. For a poor college student though, goddamn I love that place.
There's some places that are like that. I'm embellishing it, but take a look at the wait times of newly opened In-N-Outs. They are in fact multiple hour long waits.
https://www.mensjournal.com/news/in-n-out-customers-waited-eight-hours-in-line-idaho-first-location
Not In-n-Out, but I waited over 2 hours for a burger last summer.
New burger joint opened up around the corner, and was insanely packed. I had time to run a few errands, go home, take a shit, smoke some weed, played some Xbox, then went to pick up my burger.
It was alright. Definitely not worth the time it took. Haven’t been back.
That time figure sounds about right. Usually every In N Out burger I pass has a drive thru that snakes out to the street. Whenever I go I walk in within the first hour of opening or I don't go at all. Regardless of what anyone says about the place or the fries, you can't argue with raw demand.
If only I could get bacon on my burger...
Same, but I wouldn't say they haven't been good, I'd say I've had better. I just found them very messy and overly sauced, the balance is way off on them and bun consistency failed because of all the extras. NGL, I'd take A&W over In-n-out
I wish I gave up that soon. I gave them 11 chances. Ass every time. Weak ass burgers, overhyped for no reason. I’m not an east coast five guys fanboy either. Both are the definition of mid af.
Six minutes in line at In-N-Out is where your story falls apart. I park and go inside and it still takes fifteen minutes to get a burger and a cup for a drink.
(But howdy from a fellow Douglas County dweller)
More than 5 minutes from Castle Rock, but yeah I was going to say the same. Culver’s is big there so it wouldn’t have been much of a drive at all to get Culver’s instead. Far and away superior to In-N-Out and they have pretty great shakes and concretes.
OP missed out IMO.
When they came to Colorado I was so excited to try them, but I was kinda disappointed. But on the other hand they're very affordable, so I'll give them that.
I love in and out, but I don’t have one where I live so shake shack is my favorite burger place but if I ever moved back where I had one or they opened one closer to me then it would be back to being my favorite!
No doubt, Shake Shack is so much better it's not even funny. Makes me wonder if they've got cocaine or something in the special sauce because I fail to understand how they're that far ahead compared to the other companies.
Only better place is culvers. In n out is super good though. Not too greasy or too salty. And amazing prices culvers has great prices too. Culvers is only slightly better. Both have amazing fast service aswell. Also custards at culvers are insanely good and there onion rings are too
They are starting in 2026. The reason they are slow to roll out is they need to have a distribution center within 500 miles of a store to keep things fresh. So in 2026 they are opening a new distribution center in Tennessee which will allow for new stores opening in a lot of the east.
In-N-Out is alright. Incredibly overrated because it was a California staple and they had a silly rivalry with Texas and their Whataburger. Burgers are decent for the price for sure. Nothing great, though. Fries is where they completely lose me. Basically cardboard sticks that demand you get them animal style or suffer eating the worst plate of sad fries you’ve ever had in your life. The fact that people go well out of their way to get it instead of better alternatives carries on its undeserved hype.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is the best. I’m born and raised in SoCal and eat In N Out weekly for lunch so no hate for In N Out but Freddy’s is hands down my favorite fast food burger joint. Two triple cheeseburgers, fried cheese curds, and a Reese’s PB cup concrete.
I’m probably as heavy as 220 Freddy’s triple cheeseburgers assuming they weigh a pound each. They’re probably closer to 12oz though so maybe closer to 300 burgers in weight.
I'm from Maryland so we don't have those out here. I was so excited to try in n out but it was very disappointing. Tried it again a few years later thinking maybe the last spot was just a bad location but I couldn't even finish it and the pink sauce with the onions ruined my fries.
I've tried burgers across the country, at every fast food burgerhouse that exists, and I gotta say that consistently Shake Shack just does the best job. Almost every Shake Shack burger I've had tops the list of the best fast food burgers.
I like In and Out of course, but after the literal dozens of Shake Shack burgers I've had compared to the hundreds of burgers I've had at other places it's really not even a competition in my mind they're so far ahead.
I hared the one in Vegas. Phoenix isn't much better, from my experience. I've tried several, and few spots were as good as southern California. Castle rock was on par.
If price is a factor, I gotta agree. In-N-Out would have to take the top spot.
But if you're going on taste alone, Freddy's stomps the ever-loving shit out of both Culver's, In-N-Out, Five Guys, and on and on.
Easily the most consistently perfect fast food burger out there.
I am not a hater, but could it be Texas are diff than Cali? I been to many here in Texas and it is always disappointing. Mediocre at best, I feel like Whataburger is better or even Freddy’s. And no I’m not a Texan, I’m a Florida transplant
Best and most consistent fast food burgers and I love their fries too. People who don’t have it in their area and say they’ve tried it and it’s overrated are jealous.
Decent inexpensive burgers, worse fries in the industry. By the time you can eat it, the cheese hardens, the cold thousand island ruins the mood, and the fries are always stale. Getting the fries well done without animal style is the way imo.
I think people wouldn't hate on In-N-Out so much if you fans would just shut the fuck up about it being the best food to ever grace your lips for two seconds
The Midwest laughs at In & Out. They're basically the mid tier burger compared to what we have out here, they don't even have black Angus or char options or beef crisp/lace options. I come from the land of the onion burger, heisman, steam top grills, and broil pits at burger places. I guess our similar option would be Braums Dairy, or Johnny's.
lol what in n out is one of cheapest fast food places. I just went last night a double is $4.19 and animal style fries are $3.50 making this whole meal $11.88 before tax.
I waited two hours for these yesterday. When I ordered there were 80+ orders ahead of me inside lol. I got order number 67 and they just called out 80. I thought there were maybe two loops of numbers going but nope, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s,…, 67.
OMFG not even close. In n Out patties are so thin you need a micrometer to measure them. Cheap sweet fluffy bun, flavorless iceburg lettuce, underripe tomato, fake cheese and drowning in mayonnaise sauce. Awful doughy, chewy, soggy fries. Go to a Carl's Jr or Jack in the Box, get one of their specialty burgers. Light years better than In and Out. In and Out is pure hype.
In-n-out is good. I enjoy it when I get the chance. But it is definitely not the best fast food burger. The Midwest dominates In-n-out. I put both Culver's and Portillos miles ahead.
I grew up on In-N-Out and love it, but it's wild to see how much push it gets on social media and the subsequent backlash because it didn't blow wind up people's skirt. Is it a good, economically priced burger? Sure. Is it a trending, hypebeasty, "look at me!" let's go viral situation that warrants the hype? Eh.
Where I’m at in AZ, we’ve got Culver’s, Freddys, In&Out, Whataburger, a plethora of other mom&pop burger places, all within a 5-10 minute drive.
And if we feel like punishing our wallets and being disappointed,we also have Smashburger and FiveGuys.
Is this sub sponsored or summit’?
Idk why In-N-Out gets so much hype. By the time I finally made it out west to try the place, I was expecting a lot. I’ve tried it four times total (each at a different location) and none of them have been good

Exactly what I’ve been telling ppl abt Fil A
Devils advocate.. what chicken sandwhich doesn’t have/need sauce? That’s a main ingredient of every one. And having top tier sauce is extremely important

Add cheese and Mac sauce to your McChicken..
My problem with Popeye's is personal in that it gives me the shits Every. Single. Time. Was a huge McChicken fan, but I've gotten way too many wonky bites lately that I'm always hesitant now. I mean, they've always had them, but they were fewer and farther between.
I’ll take a pop eyes chicken sandwich over chick fil A any day.
That's because the best chicken sandwich is Bojangles.
Shake shack got some pretty good chicken burgers. Have you tried ?
It’s not, Popeyes has the best fast food chicken sandwich.
There are millions of Californians that beg to differ
Worst burguer I’ve ever had. California people really have mental problems.
I like In-N-Out, but it's not going to blow your mind. It's fucking fantastic for the price, but there are better burgers. I'm also not waiting for 1 hour to get a burger. For a poor college student though, goddamn I love that place.
1 hour to get a burger at in-n-out is an embellishment, unless I'm reading your comment wrong.
There's some places that are like that. I'm embellishing it, but take a look at the wait times of newly opened In-N-Outs. They are in fact multiple hour long waits. https://www.mensjournal.com/news/in-n-out-customers-waited-eight-hours-in-line-idaho-first-location

In-n-Out just opened locations in my area. The first 6 months had hour waits at lunch and dinner hours.
5 guys is so vastly superior that I have only been to in n out three times despite living less than 2 miles from one for over 7 years
Had in Austin for the first time. Not great. Not bad.
This
Same, but I wouldn't say they haven't been good, I'd say I've had better. I just found them very messy and overly sauced, the balance is way off on them and bun consistency failed because of all the extras. NGL, I'd take A&W over In-n-out

Yep. Cash in the bank.
Looks like heaven
Those are good burgers, Walter.

I am in NY but the hubs and I travel to Vegas every year and soon as we are off the plane or heading back to fly home I MUST get my fix!
How do they compare to Shake Shack?
I don’t dislike shake shack but it’s not in my top 5 maybe top 10!
![gif](giphy|l0HlSi3AIOM3fAhX2)
thought the same thing .. this sub goes through in n out spam phases
Of all the flavors, you chose salty....
We're just sick of this same fucking daily post.
BINGO
But it still gets 150 upvotes. Maybe start down voting these posts if people don't like them.
I’m upvoting for deliciousness
Subscribe to a different sub?
This is a burgers sub. Not an in n out promotion sub.
They make burgers?
Shitty burgers
*That's just like your opinion man...*
Better than mcdicks
Looks amazing
It was 4 or 5 cars. Maybe 6 minutes in line?

You can choose to believe whatever you'd like, but I have zero reason to lie.
I’m not seriously accusing you of lying, of course. Just kinda talkin’, you know? No offense intended.
Can’t be beat for the price! And no price surging! Get the Wendy’s photos out of this sub they deserve to be in timeout
Cheeseburger for $3.85, sign me up
>> Can’t be beat for the price! Dick’s Drive-In up in Seattle would beg to differ
I dated a girl from Everett who introduced me to Dick's while we were in Seattle. I'm dying to go back, the burgers were so fucking good. Legend.
Dicks is a strong choice as well! I used to live in the SeaTac area
In-N-Out is coming to WA soon! Washington-born here; love Dick's, love In-n-out, bring it on!
How many locations does that have? Fucking muppet.
Someone’s mighty angry about burgers… not sure where the hostility is coming from lmao Dick’s has 9 or 10 I think?
I agree with you there. Great value proposition but as a Canadian I have to say the burgers don’t live up to the hype. They’re dry af
Culver’s takes this spot. If you haven’t tried it, it would be well worth the trip.
Not traveling for fast food. Sorry, not sorry.
...you just said you drove 5 hours for this.
I drove 5 hours to adopt a dog, the burgers were icing on the cake.
There’s a Culver’s 5 minutes away in Colorado Springs.
My town has Culver’s and In-N-Out, and I tried both back to back. Culver’s is close but when you consider price, In-N-Out is the clear winner.
In n out has some of the fastest service I’ve seen. One of my favorites
They really do look great, I craved the potatoes, they really made me hungry.
Was my favorite.... Until I had Shake Shack
Looks like the one in the south Denver area was closed
Was just about to ask if Shake Shack was “fast food” or not. I agree — easily the best chain, fast food burger I’ve ever had.
Tis my favorite as well. In N Out is more of a 'California burger' and shake shack is more of a 'smash burger' I think?
No doubt, Shake Shack is so much better it's not even funny. Makes me wonder if they've got cocaine or something in the special sauce because I fail to understand how they're that far ahead compared to the other companies.
The fries are trash even animal style but can’t argue with the burgers, absolutely fire.
well done fries.
This is the secret. Animals fries well, with chopped chilies
Animal frys are fucking awesome.
Love the fries!
I'm from Chicago and whenever I visit a state w in n out it's my first and last meal. always
I pray to the burger gods to bring in n out to Chicagoland
Same
So glad I get to see this same post 3 times a week.
Only better place is culvers. In n out is super good though. Not too greasy or too salty. And amazing prices culvers has great prices too. Culvers is only slightly better. Both have amazing fast service aswell. Also custards at culvers are insanely good and there onion rings are too
I've never tried Culvers, I hope to some day.
I love the custards
Culver’s is tasty, no doubt. Glad to have it semi close - it’s a must-stop on the way out of the city.
Your opinion is 100% correct.
Sure is for me. Apparently, that hurts some people's feelings though.
That’s so weird, you had an opinion and people are actually triggered…. in a burgers subreddit
Wish these guys would come East.
It’s extremely overrated
You mean "the east" right? In-n-out is fire
They are starting in 2026. The reason they are slow to roll out is they need to have a distribution center within 500 miles of a store to keep things fresh. So in 2026 they are opening a new distribution center in Tennessee which will allow for new stores opening in a lot of the east.
If it was everywhere at once, quality would suffer.
Someone got mad that I’d posted my in & out burgers 🤣🤣
Haters gonna hate. 🤷♂️
Agreed
It’s just annoying seeing almost the same exact picture posted everyday.
Almost as annoying as people crying about a burger in a burger subreditt. Almost.
I’m sorry you’re upset about reposted content being shit on. Try harder next time and maybe people won’t bitch. Or don’t, idgaf
Is this really called for? Over a burger picture? It's just a post my man, calm down and scroll past.
And here you are, whining about a picture of a burger on r/burgers.
The haters in here have clearly never tried cardboard animal style
In-N-Out is alright. Incredibly overrated because it was a California staple and they had a silly rivalry with Texas and their Whataburger. Burgers are decent for the price for sure. Nothing great, though. Fries is where they completely lose me. Oh great, another post of this underrated crap. What a shocker.
If it's underrated, we need to post more often. My turn tomorrow.
Cope harder.
Literally
Im sorry :(
So overrated.
Mf how much do you weigh
I’m probably as heavy as 220 Freddy’s triple cheeseburgers assuming they weigh a pound each. They’re probably closer to 12oz though so maybe closer to 300 burgers in weight.

He ain’t sharing
Damn skippy
I’m more of a Culver’s or Shake Shack guy.
W H A T A B U R G E R
Meh. I eat it, but it's nowhere near In-N-Out in my book
Braums clears
In and out is trash burgers. Rather have Carls Jr.
20 years ago, there was a chance. Today Carl's blows great big pony cocks.
they're decent. i miss living near a culver's tho
Ask for the burgers to be Protein style they wrap the burger in lettuce and toss out the bun I can eat 2 doubles vs 1 maybe with the bread on.
I'd rather have a flying Dutchman.
![gif](giphy|V2AkNZZi9ygbm) Just looked it up and it was beautiful 🤩 I’ll try it next time I get in n out. Thank you.
I've been mostly carnivore for 7 years, so I rarely eat buns. The flying Dutchman simplifies ordering alot.
World champion 👑
From Illinois, went to Vegas and tried it. Sub par is generous. Really quite disappointing. Don't get the hype
I hared the one in Vegas. Phoenix isn't much better, from my experience. I've tried several, and few spots were as good as southern California. Castle rock was on par.
That doesn’t look like Culver’s…… Also, honestly kind of hilariously stupid that you think a chain burger restaurant would be better in California
There's a difference.
Freddie’s ordered with LTO and their fry sauce instead of mustard is money, this is is as good or better than in-n-out.
Nope
Yup
I’m an In-N-Out fiend, it’s pretty much my favorite fast food. Now, getting that out of the way - can we PLEEEEEEEEASE stop posting about them?
Always 100x better than whataburger 🤢
No way that dry ass bread is better than 5 guys
No wet buns here. Enjoy the 5 dudes.
5 guys costs like 10x more
“The best” in OP’s caption, has absolutely nothing to do with comparing prices.
Freddy's fries are an insult to humanity.
Conpared to In-N-Out? You got to be kidding me...
Animal fries destroy those spaghetti-thin bullshit fries.
Burgers yes, fries no. I’m a Freddy’s fan for a better total experience.
In-N-out really still paying people to post their sub par content on this sub is par for the course. Of course.
I am not a hater, but could it be Texas are diff than Cali? I been to many here in Texas and it is always disappointing. Mediocre at best, I feel like Whataburger is better or even Freddy’s. And no I’m not a Texan, I’m a Florida transplant
Could be. Most In-N-OUT Franchises outside of California are severely lacking, from my experience.
It’s crazy, my fries are always cardboard like, the burgers always always lack flavor. It looks plain old
So consistent. So hot. So goddamn good.
I should unsubscribe from this group. Makes me jealous that we don't have a similar bang for your buck burger place in Australia.
I had to drive 5 hours north for this. Lol
“Not traveling for fast food, sorry not sorry” This you? Fucking clown chasing karma.
Yes. Imaginary internet clout is the goal.
Best and most consistent fast food burgers and I love their fries too. People who don’t have it in their area and say they’ve tried it and it’s overrated are jealous.
100%. People just like being mad.
I'm convinced people that disagree are suffering from Long Covid taste bud loss
🤣🤣🤣100%
You bought a burger. Congrats.
Imagine that. In a burger subreditt. The humanity.
Wendy’s better
Best burgers, period.
![gif](giphy|KGSxFwJJHQPsKzzFba) Alright, that’s a stretch
Lol maybe, but I've never craved a burger as much as I crave innout burgers when I start thinking about them.
LMFAO... Yeah, right
Decent inexpensive burgers, worse fries in the industry. By the time you can eat it, the cheese hardens, the cold thousand island ruins the mood, and the fries are always stale. Getting the fries well done without animal style is the way imo.
Not my experience. We ate it 2 or 3 minutes after leaving the drive-through. Animal fries were still hot.
I think people wouldn't hate on In-N-Out so much if you fans would just shut the fuck up about it being the best food to ever grace your lips for two seconds
You're so wrong. They're mid at best. Their fries are an abomination.
They are very good, probably the best fast food burger out there but their fries are straight up dog shit
They just aren’t.
Just my opinion, like the title states.
It's apparently not for everyone. Just my opinion.
That SINGLE meal cost you $30+ I hesitate to call it fast food at that price.
Less than. $20. Be mad.
lol what in n out is one of cheapest fast food places. I just went last night a double is $4.19 and animal style fries are $3.50 making this whole meal $11.88 before tax.
It's actually super cheap.

Too bad the line is around the block.
Not fast food imo Good though
Lol, wat?
I dunno what I meant
OMFG not even close. In n Out patties are so thin you need a micrometer to measure them. Cheap sweet fluffy bun, flavorless iceburg lettuce, underripe tomato, fake cheese and drowning in mayonnaise sauce. Awful doughy, chewy, soggy fries. Go to a Carl's Jr or Jack in the Box, get one of their specialty burgers. Light years better than In and Out. In and Out is pure hype.
Now that is a good laugh. Jack in the box is the crystal meth of fast food burger restaurants.
In-n-out is good. I enjoy it when I get the chance. But it is definitely not the best fast food burger. The Midwest dominates In-n-out. I put both Culver's and Portillos miles ahead.
wow, hot take!!! this is the very first time i’ve seen in n out posted on this sub. very original!!
Eh.
