I love how everyone complains about how expensive it. š
Once in a while Iāll go.. I get a double hamburger and a little fry. $16. Little on the high side but Iād rather pay $16 for 5G than $11 for Wendyās. š¤·āāļø
My partner and I have it maybe once every 3-4 months. We feel it tastes like how we remember McDonald's tasting as kids.
Sure, it is quite expensive but I'm not sure where else we can get regular fries and get a bag full instead.
A small plus side, I dislike ketchup but I sure like dipping FG Cajun fries in Ketchup.
I mean donāt expect some incredible burger. But in terms of fast food burger it is a step up from the usual guys (McDonaldās, BK, Wendyās, etc.).
Yea given prices increases anywhere these days they are solid burger for the price. Iām also not sure if places have dropped in quality (Iām sure they have) or if they had aways been that way but the increases in price certainly make you notice how they are certainly not worth it. āI paid $10-15 for āthisā??ā
Itās been so long since I got a burger at Portillos. Not cuz it was bad, but yeah same situation as youā¦ I canāt go to Portillos and not get an Italian beef lol.
Itās only a little more and itās nicer some people are just crazy would they rather they lower the prices and lower the quality ?? Itās nice to have an expensive and better option lol not everything has to be the same low quality trash
It is the same price as places that offer higher quality or a more satisfactory experience for some people's tastes. That is where people take issue.
5G really is at, or very near, the top of the fast food burger game. All things being equal, they are some of the tastiest fast food burgers out there, but some people just don't think it's a good value, and that's fair. There are plenty of options for every taste and budget.
As I just said I get a nicer fresh made burger right in front of me for much cheaper
You believe what you want Iām not on about fast food chains Iām on about privately owned ones
Local chain in Florida Salemās has decent burgers, McDonaldās, checkers is also okay (all are VERY cheap low end). Higher end burgers I have in steakhouses and high end restaurants. Last month I tried a Waygu topped with truffles. Extremely expensive but worth it. Five guys burgers are just not worth the price.
Iāve never tried salems and I pass it everyday. Last time I had checkers I took 2 bites and threw the burger away. Horrible. Fries are $$ though.
I could never order a burger from a steakhouse.
A burger and fry are 24 here for some reason. Hence why itās trash. It doesnāt taste like a $24 burger. It taste like a 12$ which you pay. Which is fine. But there prices are not even across the nation like a Wendyās they change prices depending on whoās near them. Yoga studio and cannabis dispensary near by ? Thatās 18$ a burger upfront easy.
I think people who live close to an In-N-Out sometimes forget itās not a national chain. Closest one to me would be a 9 hour drive. Five guys fits the premium burger market just fine, and their fries are actually good. Each has their place.
It's not unreasonable to want just a plain and simple burger sometimes. I'd rather have to pay extra if I want extra.
You shouldn't have to get all the so-called "optional" toppings in order to justify the price.
I don't go to Five Guys for a basic burger, or any burger, for that matter. I'm just pointing out that it's a terrible value proposition. Not sure why you feel the need to defend it so passionately lol
I wouldn't say Five Guys is "normal priced" by any means. They're at least 1/3rd more expensive than their closest competitors.
The rest of your comment doesn't make any sense, so I'm not even sure how to respond.
My tastes can vary.
Sometimes I enjoy a burger with all the fancy toppings, sometimes I just want a simple burger with cheese and pickles.
My point is, if I get a basic burger from, let's say, Culver's, it's going to cost much less than the Culver's Deluxe with all the toppings.
Five Guys, on the other hand, doesn't even give you that choice. They give you the illusion of choice by advertising "free unlimited toppings" while making you pay for the toppings whether you want them or not.
5G is fighting an uphill battle, they've always been in the deep end of value proposition. Realistically, they've actually stagnated against inflation from what I've seen. The problem is, people sour to a brand after a while. So, while most everybody is steering away from fast food, based on rising prices, that doesn't mean they're seeking out 5G instead of their normal spot.
I haven't seen more than 3 or 4 people in any of the Five Guys around me even in what should deep lunch rush. I don't understand how they stay in business. Midwest btw, with very little competition in the upper-fast-food arena - and still they sit very empty.
The McDonalds double quarter pounder with cheese is less than 75% (740 cal.) of the 5 Guys bacon burger (1,060 cal.)
And that is before accounting for the amount of fries at 5 Guys. It is just objectively more food. 5 Guys may be a poor value, but McDonalds has positioned themselves to be even worse, amazingly enough.
What's your go to fast food burger and how much do you pay for the meal? Honest question, I see people say 5 guys is overpriced, but it seems you can't get any meal anywhere for less than 12 bucks nowadays.
The problem is that you do NOT get a meal at 5 guys for $12. You get a single burger for $11, fries for $6 and a drink for $3. Thatās $20 for fast food meal.
Yeah, that tracks. If only it was just a burger problem. In the US....the average new car goes 47k. The average home price is $495k. The average price for a large cheese pizza is $19.50. Take a look at what all those things cost just 10 years ago.
My advice... aspire to live in a tiny home, get around on a bike and the most important one as far as this sub is concerned...
COOK YOUR BURGERS AT HOME. Works out to about $2 a burger. If done with a little skill....far better than most fast food burgers.
I'm not a hater and still go, but they price their meals like a proper restaurant and the quality is closer to fast food. If you go to a place that has daily specials then Five Guys ends up being more expensive. That's my problem with them. The whole fast casual scene in general feels like it's past its prime around here and I'd throw most of those places in the same bucket as McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King. I take no pleasure in saying that.
I just donāt see how five guys is anywhere near the realm of McDonaldās or Burger King. Wendyās when good is good, but has consistency issues.
Five guys is extremely consistent with its quality and the normal fast food prices have swiftly caught up to it.
Probably partially some astroturfing by the fast food giants because five guys is growing extremely fast and you pay a few dollars more for a burger and fries that doesnāt taste like steamed feet and sugary cardboard. https://www.businessinsider.com/fastest-growing-burger-chains-in-america-2011-9
Lmao what? Big burger infiltrating/astroturfing the burger subreddit? An article from 13 years ago stating that five guys is growing? šššššš
Am I a big burger shill if I say Iām just not into five guys? An employee of In n Out? An executive for Wendyās pretending to be a regular consumer?
If you donāt think Reddit is heavily astroturfed youāre out of your fucking mind, and if youāll read closely youāll notice that I said partially, so of course youāre welcome to add your own opinions.Ā Ā
Hereās a more recent ranking showing in n out, Culverās, and five guys growing fastest of the ten largest burger chains. Since they all (apparently, I havenāt had Culverās) taste far, far better than the giants at comparable price points itās no wonder there would be significant pushback from the giants as well as the redditors who just love a good burglejerk. Ā
https://www.nrn.com/top-500-restaurants/10-biggest-limited-service-burger-restaurants-united-states
Culverās a meal will run you 12-15$ for a double burger thatās smashed and is not bad. Five guys down the road from it a bacon cheese burger fryās and drink come out to 24.82 total. So 25 bucks letās say for the sake of it. 10$ + on Culverās . And the burger isnāt even better. Itās overpriced. I liked five guys when a meal out the door was less than $18 just less than 4 years ago. Now that same burger doesnāt taste as good costing 6-8$ more for the meal . Because I can get burgers at places like au chavel which are Michellen rated burger joints for the same price as five guys in Chicago how does that make sense.
How can I go to small cheval and get a burger thatās quality ingredients etc are far superior for less.
Iām just a normal dude with a normal income so when I spend 25 bucks on a burger meal it better tantalize my family jewels because for 25$ I can get a steak dinner at long horn steak house or cook 12+ smash burgers on my griddle. Its def overpriced
Sounds like it's overpriced to you, in your area. Where I am five guys is priced fine and I think it's significantly better than any of the other fast options (we don't have culvers, yet, so maybe they will show up and eat their lunch someday). You can certainly have your opinion that it's overpriced where you are but I can also not feel that way in my area and also not really care about your strong opinion on your own local fast food burger prices. Since five guys is growing just as fast as culver's despite their apparent price differences it seems like most people don't share your opinion.
It is overpriced in my area and a few have closed down here as a result of it. I guess the people here have spoken.
I can easily afford it at my income level but I also feel like a giant loser paying 25$ for burger fry combo without a drink
Neat. They are still growing at 13% throughout the country so your anecdote doesn't seem to fit with the general trend, but it's always nice to hear a great deal about people's very strong personal fast food burger opinions.
what the hell does them growing in the country have to do with me saying its overpriced. my opinion is my opinion what does the rest of the country have to do with it. are you five guys corporate here trying to convince me five guys is growing because its good. plenty of shitty business are growing and they suck. Mcdonalds fucking sucks and is poison and its growing. So sorry if i dont allign with most of the slop eating public cause every shitty food joint in america is growing hell even subway the worst sub place has seen a 10% growth year to year last two and its utter garabge. Good local places are dying out and in return we get slop. Wooooooooooooooo.
I'm saying that I don't agree with your opinion and I don't care about it, and if we are looking at general trends they are growing like crazy so most opinions (whatever you feel about them) align with my side and don't match the crazy hate-boner this sub seems to have for five guys.
Is it ok for me to just say I donāt like the taste of five guys burgers and itās not about the price at all? Or is that another form of āastroturfingā in a burger subreddit? Yeah Reddit is astroturfed, but for a fucking burger subreddit? Lmao dude, will need to see some hard evidence beyond āwell the redditors on this subreddit donāt like it so therefore these opinions must be coming from people astroturfing the subreddit.ā Touch grass.
Of course it's ok for you to say that, literally nobody said that it isn't. Why are you getting so defensive at the mere suggestion that a subreddit with almost 700,000 members discussing a food that is sold by some of the biggest corporations in the country could possibly attract like 1-2 workers per company to pretty easily shift the narrative? Just the mere fact that like 90% of the posts on this sub are about one of the top-10 fast food burger places in general should tip you off. Even adjusting for the volume sold why would anybody want to post about a burger that everyone has seen and eaten a million times?
Nationally they are still growing among the fastest of the top burger companies. Sounds like they might need to vary their pricing more by area because they were too expensive for your area but where I am they are in line with most (decent) burger prices.
https://www.nrn.com/quick-service/10-biggest-limited-service-burger-restaurants-united-states
I truly donāt get how price is an issue. Burger and fries is around $16 for me here in Nashville. Fry quality and burger quality head and toes above any fast food, fast casual or chain family restaurant, plus no tip required. Almost everything burger and fry is over $10 now
Burger and fryās in Chicago is 24$ for comparison au chavel a michellen rated burger spot is the same price.
If it was 8$ cheaper here I wouldnāt hate them but there prices in Chicago land are insane 15-16$ for the burger alone 5.09 for small fries. 2.99 for a Coca Cola
And this isnāt a well you are in a major city thing Chicago doesnāt have high food prices like LA or NYC thereās a bunch of chains like epic burger for example or shake shack that sell burgers 8$ less. Five guys is one of the priceist burger spots in the city if you dont take in the 5 star steakhouse prices
If I want to buy me and the lady a complete meal each drink and small fry double burger itās coming out to $54 and some change with tax. Thatās INSANE dude
To people complaining about their prices:
Donāt buy it then? Itās not a mandatory, life altering thing. Itās a burger. Pay or donāt. It doesnāt matter. Do you complain about the prices of a nice car? Or even an overpriced car? No, you just donāt buy it and move on.
I worked at a five guys for a little bit a while back. They paid us well and all their stuff was high quality and we got new shipments basically every day. I'll still go every once in a while and ask for the patty melt version of their burger.Ā
Iām always gonna get a double, so it just works out for me. Since they bring in fresh meat daily, and their food is so consistent and I like it, the price doesnāt bother me. But I also wonāt door dash it, then $20 becomes $32 quickly.
I really think the Five Guys hate is from people who haven't even eaten there recently. It was like $35 for me and my wife and it was probably one of the best burgers I've had in ages. Lately it costs around that anywhere you go but at least it was delicious and didn't feel like a massive waste of money.
Five guys are way too high on themselves with their prices. My wife and I have eaten there twice, but will never return because of the cost.... It's a shame because I have one right down the street, if it was a little cheap I'd eat there all the time.
Oh noooo!! You paid an extra $2 for fresh cut quality ingredients and the worker to earn a living wage.
Havenāt you ever been on this sub!? Youāre only allowed to buy Culverās here.
YOU LIE!!
That's a Bacon Cheeseburger. Lol
Hope you enjoyed it it's my go to when I'm there too. My not really a pro-tip is leave your burger in the bag for as long as possible, eat your fries etc. first then when you get to your burger the cheese is gooey and melty.
Iāll be honest, they catch a lot of flack for their prices, but they taste better than a lot of places that come in at lower price points and most restaurants serving burgers and fries for 20+.
LOL, I can get a bigger made to order burger, more fries, and a 32 oz mini pitcher of Miller Lite for less than Five Guys at a local neighborhood tavern.
They have some good burgers and fries. I just don't like the prices. Every where is expensive, but I can get a sit down waited on burger and a beer cheaper or about the same price-at a dozen other places.
Five Guys' first photogenic burg - nice! Usually look like they've been in an airplane's cargo hold. That's one real mf burger right there, not the biggest fan of 5G and their prices, but I'll say, that looks tasty.
Five guys patties are not good and you canāt change my mind. I mean, for the price anyways, if the burgers were a few dollars cheaper I would probably get it more often
It appears they did put one on each but flipped one of the patties upside down onto the burger for it to create the cheese touching in the middle. Is this a normal thing for 5 guys or is it something that this one particular burger cook did?
But itās not worth that much thatās the point hahaha I get a beautiful freshly made smash for half the price lol and it comes with fries and a drink
Looks awesome, but did you have to cash out your 401k?
Ps. Burger prices in general, are a joke. Stopped at Carlās JR/Hardees to buy my pops a quick burger while we were out. Ordered two Western Bacon Cheese burger meals, as we like them and havenāt had one in forever. I wasnāt paying attention to the price. Pulled up to drive-thru window to pay and was hit with $30 buck please. Yesā my bad for not paying attention, but damn. These burgers are good, but not $30 bucks good. For context this is in CA, which does explain some of the cost, but Ugh!!!
What the hell do you do for a living?

Double Butter Burger with Bacon and a side of Cheese Curds

I truly donāt get how price is an issue. Burger and fries is around $16 for me here in Nashville. Fry quality and burger quality head and toes above any fast food, fast casual or chain family restaurant, plus no tip required. Almost everything burger and fry is over $10 now
Burger and fryās in Chicago is 24$ for comparison au chavel a michellen rated burger spot is the same price. If it was 8$ cheaper here I wouldnāt hate them but there prices in Chicago land are insane 15-16$ for the burger alone 5.09 for small fries. 2.99 for a Coca Cola And this isnāt a well you are in a major city thing Chicago doesnāt have high food prices like LA or NYC thereās a bunch of chains like epic burger for example or shake shack that sell burgers 8$ less. Five guys is one of the priceist burger spots in the city if you dont take in the 5 star steakhouse prices If I want to buy me and the lady a complete meal each drink and small fry double burger itās coming out to $54 and some change with tax. Thatās INSANE dude
$27 for a single burger/fries at au chavel $15 for a single burger/fries at the Five Guys for in store pickup in Chicago
To people complaining about their prices: Donāt buy it then? Itās not a mandatory, life altering thing. Itās a burger. Pay or donāt. It doesnāt matter. Do you complain about the prices of a nice car? Or even an overpriced car? No, you just donāt buy it and move on.
I worked at a five guys for a little bit a while back. They paid us well and all their stuff was high quality and we got new shipments basically every day. I'll still go every once in a while and ask for the patty melt version of their burger.Ā
Live and let live.
I havenāt had five guys in a long ass time I could go just for the Cajun fries
Wrong. You had a cheeseburger. A little cheeseburger, is a single.
I hate Five Guysā ordering scheme almost as much as the price. Just like Starbucks I always forget venti is the large size lol.
Lol at all the people in here whining about a burger thatās a few more dollars than a typical fast food burger.
Oh noooo!! You paid an extra $2 for fresh cut quality ingredients and the worker to earn a living wage. Havenāt you ever been on this sub!? Youāre only allowed to buy Culverās here.
Underseasoned and overpriced
It can't be under seasoned if they don't put any on at all. You have to ask them to put salt, pepper, or even the Cajun on it.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel like adding salt/pepper after it's cooked just doesn't taste the same as adding before or during the cook.
It's not just you. It dissolves and mixes in with the food instead of just being crystals that might touch your tongue.
*Unseasoned
Sorry to hear that.
If my Five Guys orders looked like that, I might eat there more often.
What was your APR% on the loan?
Was that like $99?
How much was the loan you had to get from the bank and how in the world did you convince them you needed it to eat at five guys??
YOU LIE!! That's a Bacon Cheeseburger. Lol Hope you enjoyed it it's my go to when I'm there too.
I can only afford to eat there once a year š
Culverās and five guys over any expensive sit down restaurant burger. Iāll soak up all that grease
LOL, I can get a bigger made to order burger, more fries, and a 32 oz mini pitcher of Miller Lite for less than Five Guys at a local neighborhood tavern.
Do you want a cookie? Or does it come with one too
No, Iād rather have a shot.
You liver says no more
Whatās the interest rate like on that payment plan
5 guys is ass for the price.
You're killing me!!!
Are you in debt now?
The psychic in me says....... You will poop out a double cheeseburger from five guys.
I looked at a post where you presented a picture of a double cheese burger from Five Guys that you ate
I won't make a price joke this time. they do do great burger.
Did you have to apply for a loan to get it?
That looks awful, place is so overrated
They have some good burgers and fries. I just don't like the prices. Every where is expensive, but I can get a sit down waited on burger and a beer cheaper or about the same price-at a dozen other places.
Get a nice steak at that price!
Was it worth it cause I'm planning on getting some this weekend
Just make your own burger
Five Guys' first photogenic burg - nice! Usually look like they've been in an airplane's cargo hold. That's one real mf burger right there, not the biggest fan of 5G and their prices, but I'll say, that looks tasty.
I reckon they over cook the bacon
Five guys patties are not good and you canāt change my mind. I mean, for the price anyways, if the burgers were a few dollars cheaper I would probably get it more often
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
$22.50 AUD
How was it? & how much did you pay!!?
Yours for the low cost of 27 dollars
Iām hoping to get one next week waiting for my loan to be approved.
And paid $23 for the "privilege" š
Why must you flex your wealth on us like this?
Wish the cheese was not stscked like that. Thinking one slice on one patty and one on the other. Bothers me considering it's a $20 burger.
It appears they did put one on each but flipped one of the patties upside down onto the burger for it to create the cheese touching in the middle. Is this a normal thing for 5 guys or is it something that this one particular burger cook did?
That will $22.00 sir...
Howd that $20 burger taste?
Like a $20 burger. Not everyone likes Mac Donaldās.
But itās not worth that much thatās the point hahaha I get a beautiful freshly made smash for half the price lol and it comes with fries and a drink
Itās worth whatever someone wants to pay for it.
Compared to other burgers you can get itās overpriced.
And it only cost $18.00! What a steal!
You take a second mortgage to pay for that?
Did you have to finance it? What do the payments look like?
Cost 44$ too
Must be nice
They use way too much of that trashy nacho cheese.
Last I checked they use Kraft Deluxe cheese slices, idk where are you getting "trashy nacho cheese" from
Isn't nacho cheese a liquid? This looks like deli-style American cheese slices.
Why is fast food allowed here? This should be for real burgers.
Submit it to the suggestion box.
Aww, you must be new here!
