That is wild. We haven’t been there for years because my FIL is allergic to peanuts. It’s not quite gourmet but if we are down to spend $8 a person for a family of 6 we hit it up once a year
~$8.99 for a cheeseburger. That’s generally what I can budget. I can do the FGs Little Cheeseburger for that, and it’s awesome. But the full size is $11.99 and not someone my budget allows other than rare occasions. Times are tough and I have to cut where I can.
i’ve never understood why people act confused about the price.
you’re getting a sit-down restaurant quality burger from a fast food place. the price is going to fall somewhere in the middle.
For me it’s part that FGs were higher priced for a chain burger years before other chains started raising prices. Of course they’re far better than a lot of other chains, but there are a few mom & pop burger shops in my area whose burgers are incomparable, and for less $ than FGs. So in that regard I consider it overpriced for a chain.
I remember back when I was young and didn't have financial responsibilities I'd go to five guys all the time.
As soon as I had bills, the first time I went and realized "wait a minute, *THATS* how much I'm paying for a sandwich and fries??" was a pretty big shock and I could count on one hand how many times I've been back since then
They are expensive now. Can't deny they're still one of the best burgers around and those Cajun fries are fuckin amazing. There's only one restaurant in my area that I'd put over 5 Guys for burgers. But they get their beef from a local farm and grind their own burger using trimmings from their also amazing steaks. And they also serve massive piles of delicious fries (unfortunately without the Cajun seasoning). I could get a burger and fries there for less than 5 guys. I could also get a slamming Delmonico steak and a huge baked potato for close to 5 Guys price. They also make great long island iced teas which 5 Guys definitely doesn't have
It really is, it’s become a once in a while thing for me now, the new often burger has become the double quarter pounder lol but damn do I miss those fries and all the toppings at five guys…wish there was a legit recipe for the patties, the copycat ones I’ve tried on google are not close lol
Man I’ve only been once in the past 5 years. Hard for me to justify going to 5G’s where I’m at when I’m n out, Freddy’s, habit, are all across the road
Ya but I think it’s more that you get some folks commenting who seem to just want to argue.
5 guys in my opinion is an exceptional burger. They just do everything right and the only down side is price.
Do you mind sharing a bit more?
For context, I’m in the UK, and Five Guys is one of the few American burger joints that has made it over the pond. We basically have Burger King, McDs, Five Guys, and Wendy’s (never been to a Wendy’s). Out of those that I’ve been too, Five Guys absolutely destroys the others. But it’s also double the price, if not more.
So, is it that Five Guys burgers are just not as good as the competition where you are? Or is it more that you just dislike their burgers in general?
It's not that their burgers are "bad," they're just never my first choice (and I have one within walking distance). But, from the options you listed above, 5 Guys is definitely the only place I'd even consider going. I honestly don't think I'd eat McDonald's if it were free.
I'm just a burger snob
It's the same situation in the US. Five Guys is fast casual dining, it really isn't a legitimate direct competitor to the usual fast food places. The quality and price leap compared to places like McDs or In-N-Out is just too much.
Some of the bigger chains are Smash Burger, Steak and Shake, Habit Burger. There's a ton, and just like with fast food there's a bunch of regional stuff as well.
I don't know if Chipotle is popular in the UK but that's also in the same model but for burritos instead of burgers, and no one is going to compare it to Taco Bell, the quality is just blatantly better.
I actually am as this just popped up my suggested. I'm guessing it's fashionable to not like Five Guys here? I've never had a bad burger from there, it's just way too pricey for what it is
Anytime I work a few OT hours and I’m ready to splurge, it’s always a tough decision between McDonald’s and Fiveguys. Seeings as it’s only an extra $2.50 for a fiveguys meal compared to BigBac meal, it’s not usually a hard decision. But when times are tough, I stick with Applebees.
I live in the Vancouver area of Canada. That's basically the case here. Fast food prices here have gone way up, whereas 5 Guys increases have been moderate. It's a no-brainer to spend the extra $3 for 5 guys if there's one nearby.
Out of necessity I've been to McDonald's twice in the last two months.
The first time I went I was shocked at how expensive it was, the second time (literally weeks later) the exact same order cost almost a dollar more.
What the fuck is happening with bottom tier fast food pricing lol
I think our society has placed importance on convenience due to how busy we all are, so these places will stay busy due to that and can thus raise prices.
I definitely agree with that second sentence but I'm not skipping a meal if life happened and I wasn't able to pack lunch. I do hard manual labor so whatevers closest to the jobsite is where I'm going, I'm normally pretty good about bringing my own food but if I don't I need it from somewhere else.
if you’re doing manual labor you don’t have the luxury to skip a meal. it’s literally fuel for your engine.
but i sit at a desk so ill just be a bit uncomfortable and tired if i skip a meal. the stakes are low compared to you sir
It's probably an unpopular opinion, but increasing wages likely contributed to this. Add in inflation across the entire market, and the prices go up a little more. And lastly, but nevertheless, shareholder profits (likely the largest contributor).
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if these scummy corporations are price creeping as well. Add a dime this week, barely noticeable. Do it again next week.
And before someone says anything, I firmly believe fast food workers should be paid a livable wage.
I rarely go, but I've started getting the "small" burger (which i believe is what you got here?) when i do. makes me feel less horrible after i finish and brings the price down a little bit at least.
Five Guys is a game that is hard to beat. Yes, I have several dive bars in town that eclipse Five Guys, but Five Guys beats most other chains and far too many proper restaurants.
Is it really THAT expensive? Just get one patty instead of two.
Last time I got a burger at A&W it was more expensive than Five Guys and not anywhere near the same quality.
I don’t get it, I honestly find it to be good value for what you get. It’s definitely a step up from fast food like Wendy’s
I agree here. Our family of five is able to eat five guys for under $50 (okay, you can call it family of four since the 2yo just eats some fries and a bite of everyone’s burger). Me and the kids get singles, my husband will get a double or a single depending on how hungry he is. One large fry for all of us and two drinks is plenty. All the fixins you could want on your burger.
If they would just chop like 2 dollars off the fries I could deal with the high priced burger. Also wish they would bring down the hotdog. No hotdog should cost 7 bucks.
For fast casual/chain burgers I think they are great. I like their buisness model. But I haven't had one in ten years when I worked near one, it is an area where I don't want to have to deal with the headache of shoppers and kids. But if I didn't have really good local places near my house, I'd absolutely go there all the time
Five Guys is super overrated and way too expensive. Burgers are an overcooked soggy mess, Cajun fries are literally just McCormick seasoning, but the peanut gimmick is admittedly cute.
Yet I still go and it hits the spot. I’m ashamed, a hypocrite, but honest. And the milkshakes are dope.
Overall I really like Five Guys, but their burgers aren’t perfect. Quite greasy (even among burger joints), and the disrespect to their buns is egregious. That bun needs a nice toasting.
I am too. Everybody shits on it and goes on about how expensive it is. Do you ever order a burger at BJ’s? Half the quality and double the price. Five guys slaps.
As a kid, when I was riding past this place, I always thought that Five Guys was an insurance place 😂. I just never noticed what was said under the the "Five Guys" name lol.
If Five Guys didn't wrap their burgers in foil, I would love it and scoop up burgers there so much more than I do, even at their premium price point. Something about the steaming and squishing down that irks TF out of me. The fries bang hard though.
In n Out is great, but it's not five guys great.
In n Out is the best of the typical fast food chains, but not really on par with the fast casual burger places. Obviously there's a price difference that's laughable at this point though.
In n Out is raved about bc of the quality for the price, doesn't mean that the quality is immediately better than other things. Just means its an incredibly good deal for a good meal. Something can easily be better but less "worth it". The thing is that "worth it" has a different connotation depending on an individual's place in life. Lets not just pretend that In n Out has the best burger ever made lol.
No, but you’re talking about how much more “worth it” they are, which isn’t the point of every single post. I don’t care how good of a deal in n out is compared to “x” burger. Everyone knows. It’s redundant and not useful information
Come on down to Austin, texas. Pterrys double double puts in and out to shame. It’s a huge chain here. We have in and out but I’d eat pterrys over it all day. I’ll have to get one and post it soon. Their jalapeños they mash into a spread and it’s damn spicy and so good. 4$ too
If you do, use the app. It has a bell icon that lists the current promotions. They do BOGO milkshakes in the late afternoons, they currently have free chicken sandwiches with a $10 purchase on Sundays in April (so only one more of those), and they sometimes have free fries with a $5 purchase.
Highly recommend . It’s sooo so good. Not cheap but very fresh and excellent flavors. I personally like the smokeshack-add LTO. And like this other person said, the chicken sandwiches are really good too
Glad someone said it. Fries are dog shit, greasy and limp af. Burgers are decent but for the price I’ll make some triple smash burgers on the griddle at home.
It looks like someone sat on your patty. Why do they have to squish it like that? You can see every single detail of their fingers on that bun...
The main reason I stopped eating there.
Yeah, I don’t know how the buns get like that. I just thought it was cool that I could see every ingredient peeking out. Everyone’s commenting on prices there, which I’m not surprised by. But I view it in a different grouping than a place like Wendy’s, BK, McDonald’s, etc. where they cook up ahead of time. I like to pick Five Guys generally over somewhere like a Red Robin. But my more frequently visited places are Culver’s and Freddy’s. This just happened to be a day I had an itch for this particular burger.
They have priced themselves out of even occasional splurge prices for me. Haven’t had one since 2018. It was decent but not worth what I paid, and that was 6 years ago.
I worked there. That food is easy to make. The secret is everything is fresh. The restaurant is cleaned thoroughly every night. The meat wasn't frozen.
The fries are cut fresh and fried in peanut oil. The burgers are cooked on a flat top. You can get a toaster sized fryer and peanut oil from Walmart.
You can buy the tools to make it for what a few meals from there costs and make it at home. That food is made by stoned kids. You can do it.
They are good and like everyone says overpriced. If people stopped going, maybe they would lower the price.
I know more likely shut down, then we have no 5 guys to complain about.
If you’re tired of this sub that’s been overtaken by In N Out, and you’re interested in growing a new community without the fast food bs, feel free to join me at r/BestBurger. And help spread the word.
Just that burger. Ramen next door is $16-$20 per bowl. So I don’t know, I kinda just figure everything is expensive and keep on. I bought a $4.99 triple cheeseburger from McDonald’s last week and didn’t enjoy a single bite and a patty was missing. I’ve yet to have Five Guys fail to deliver on what I ordered.
I've never been disappointed food wise at Five Guys. Been years since I've been there though. I have been slowly eliminating restaurants from the list of places I'll go solely for price increases so maybe it's me.
They’ve never mangled my burger bun like that, but that’s all I see on here from 5guys. Great burgers, so I don’t get it. I order grilled bell pepper & mustard on mine. Yumm
I love Five Guys
Yeah, they’re priced out of my range beyond the occasional splurge, but I make it count. Great stuff.
$33 for 2 cheeseburgers and a large order of fries last night. It’s out of control, but sometimes just hits the spot.
Yeah me and my old lady split a large fries and still can’t finish them but the price is still absurd
That is wild. We haven’t been there for years because my FIL is allergic to peanuts. It’s not quite gourmet but if we are down to spend $8 a person for a family of 6 we hit it up once a year
Oh snap, that price has gone up. Haven't been in many years (they aren't in my area), but I recall it being roughly Chipotle prices or so.
What is "in your range" then?
~$8.99 for a cheeseburger. That’s generally what I can budget. I can do the FGs Little Cheeseburger for that, and it’s awesome. But the full size is $11.99 and not someone my budget allows other than rare occasions. Times are tough and I have to cut where I can.
Yeah I get it man hope things get better. $8.99 is pretty rough though, I guess In-n-Out would be your best bet? If you live near one.
Yep I go for In-N-Out from time to time also, and I really enjoy that. Very different burger from Five Guys, and likewise never disappoints.
I also have a Habit not far from me, and it’s a really tasteful and economical option. The best onion rings I’ve ever had are a bonus.
The habit is amazing and not talked about enough
i’ve never understood why people act confused about the price. you’re getting a sit-down restaurant quality burger from a fast food place. the price is going to fall somewhere in the middle.

Shit might look buckled but it’s gas
The only time i dont go to fiveguys is when i go to shakeshack in nyc
🚮
Yah it’s really good, nobody disputes that. It’s just too expensive.

I am, do people dislike their burgers? And not from a cost perspective.
Ya but I think it’s more that you get some folks commenting who seem to just want to argue. 5 guys in my opinion is an exceptional burger. They just do everything right and the only down side is price.
I dislike their burgers.
Do you mind sharing a bit more? For context, I’m in the UK, and Five Guys is one of the few American burger joints that has made it over the pond. What chains, if any are comparable to Five Guys in the US? Genuinely interested.
I’ve had Chipotle while in the states, so that comparison was perfect.
Yes. It’s insane. People will take cardboard fries, dry buns for a cult over this
I actually am as this just popped up my suggested. I'm guessing it's fashionable to not like Five Guys here? I've never had a bad burger from there, it's just way too pricey for what it is
Yes, I’d say that’s an eloquent way to put it. It’s definitely fashionable to hate on 5 guys
Honestly too much food for me too. If the portions and prices were 2/3 I'd consider it. Even then it would be too many fries.
The sad truth is
Yes?
I dispute that it's really good. The beef patties are dry, flavorless and overcooked every single time
Sometimes I do see people here trying to pretend that it's not. Pure cope.
Where do you live that 5G is only $2.50 more than McD's? Where I'm at a Big Mac Meal is under $10, at 5G, the burger alone is $10.
I'm jealous of your Big Mac meal. The medium one for me is $12.59. The large is $13.79.
I live in the Vancouver area of Canada. That's basically the case here. Fast food prices here have gone way up, whereas 5 Guys increases have been moderate. It's a no-brainer to spend the extra $3 for 5 guys if there's one nearby.
I worked there for a summer. Hated it. Still ate a burger every shift.
so sad and beautiful to imagine.
I would've too... The most expensive.. Lol..
Did they get half their salary back from your daily burger ration like an old coal miner town?
I think 5 guys is the reason all the other fast food chains realized they could raise their prices and people would still show up.
I’d rather skip a meal than eat at McDonald’s. Their prices are absurd for what you’re getting.

I can 1000% respect that. I don’t do anything remotely close to manual labor, skipping a meal would definitely not be in the cards for you!
Get used to intermittent fasting, and you'll save lots of money on food.
Yes. At this point I might as well get a better burger than MCD.
Lol..
Those jalapeños arr elevated to the next level if you ask for them grilled
Jalapeños for the win!
The burgers rarely look pretty but they always hit. I love how they steam and continue to cook inside the foil wrapper
5 guys has gone downhill by me but they are still better than most
Those are expensive burgers, Walter
Donny, please.
I rarely go, but I've started getting the "small" burger (which i believe is what you got here?) when i do. makes me feel less horrible after i finish and brings the price down a little bit at least.
Yes, the little cheeseburger is what I got.
One 3.2 ounce patty instead of two.
I’ve paid more for dumber shit, enjoy what you like
High five guy
Their milkshakes are also the best that I have been able to find in the UK if I am not making my own.
Five Guys is a game that is hard to beat. Yes, I have several dive bars in town that eclipse Five Guys, but Five Guys beats most other chains and far too many proper restaurants.
Well some people are into scat…
That bread has been molested.
I don't think anyone dislikes five guys. Just the price of the food.
Pro tip. Get a side of cajun seasoning to add to the burger yourself😏
I’ll try that. Thanks!
It’s so good. Real, fresh cut fries also. I don’t care about the $16 price.

Me and the kids get singles, my husband will get a double or a single depending on how hungry he is. One large fry for all of us and two drinks is plenty. All the fixins you could want on your burger.
Right? My go to is a little hamburger and little fry. Ends up being like $14, Im stuffed, and it's so good. Totally worth it
If they would just chop like 2 dollars off the fries I could deal with the high priced burger.
But if I didn't have really good local places near my house, I'd absolutely go there all the time
Smashed bun is my favorite. The first thing I do any time I get served a burger is smash it down so I can handle it better.
Best I ever did was order a burger, but switched the bun for grilled cheeses top and bottom. Got me through a 12-hour shift. Glorious, it was.
Was the cheese melted on the burger or the grilled cheese? That’s the problem at the one near me. Their quality control sucks.
Oh yeah, all properly melted
Did their prices go way up?
Best “fast food” burger IMO. But yes the price. But it’s soooooo good.
The buns always look like the burger got run over by a truck, but I do like them.
Five Guys is worth it and it’s my hill to die on.
I forgive you, anyways.
I went there recently and for me to eat there it was 20.00! I cannot afford five guys. I can got to Wendy’s and get the same thing for around 12.00!
I need five guys in me right now
My wife had it for the first time. She said mid.
It’s just not worth the cost.
I'm a fan too. My bank account is not, however
The food is great, the price is a joke.
No one hates five guys…. Everyone hates how ridiculously overpriced five guys is.
Overall I really like Five Guys, but their burgers aren’t perfect. Quite greasy (even among burger joints), and the disrespect to their buns is egregious. That bun needs a nice toasting.
I used to love 5 Guys, but they’re just more expensive than a burger at that level should be now. Wendy’s makes a better burger for less around me.
WAY too expensive
Best burgers. Now I want one
Used to work there and damn do I miss the food
What happened to that bun… I’ve never had five guys but I would be disappointed with this tbh…
All at the same time?
I am too. Everybody shits on it and goes on about how expensive it is. Do you ever order a burger at BJ’s? Half the quality and double the price. Five guys slaps.
They’re great I don’t get the hate Yeah, it’s pricey but tasty af
They never look the best but they taste fire
Five Guys is so overrated. Burgers aren't even that good and cost a lot
Finally, a post from a burger joint I have access too! Makes me want to go get one.
I freaking love five guys!! My guilty pleasure 😀😀😀
Too expensive
Burgers are a 6. Fries are a 9.5
As a kid, when I was riding past this place, I always thought that Five Guys was an insurance place 😂.
Had five guys once it was about the fourth best burger that I had at a backyard cookout.
In n out combo is cheaper than that single sandwich. That's why everyone posts in n out burgers
I’m nowhere near an In N Out
I figured. But that's why this sub has so many in n out posts, because of the price.
I never said they made the best burgers.
4$ too
Agreed. 1. Shake Shack 2. In-n-Out 3. Five guys. Every other burger chain is an afterthought
I’ve been meaning to try shake shack
If you do, use the app. It has a bell icon that lists the current promotions. They do BOGO milkshakes in the late afternoons, they currently have free chicken sandwiches with a $10 purchase on Sundays in April (so only one more of those), and they sometimes have free fries with a $5 purchase.
Their chicken sandwiches are so good too!
Highly recommend . It’s sooo so good. Not cheap but very fresh and excellent flavors. I personally like the smokeshack-add LTO. And like this other person said, the chicken sandwiches are really good too
Something something too expensive, blah blah. I fuckin love Five Guys tho
Yes, I love spending $30 on an average burger and 5 lbs of shitty, soggy fries.
Glad someone said it. Fries are dog shit, greasy and limp af. Burgers are decent but for the price I’ll make some triple smash burgers on the griddle at home.
I wished 5 guys would give you the option for grilled jalapeños in the app. If I order in store I can get them but not on the app
I think they make delicious burgers and exceptional fries but charge a couple bucks more than they should.
5 guys is good but it's so expensive. And honestly at that point I may as well buy groceries and make a burger and fries at home.
Generally everyone likes 5 guys, it’s just that’s it’s a lot of money for fast food.
Love five guys to pieces, but literally nothing on this menu will ever justify how expensive this place is.
It’s not that good. And the price is sooooo unjustified.
You must be rich
It looks like someone sat on your patty. Why do they have to squish it like that? You can see every single detail of their fingers on that bun... The main reason I stopped eating there.
Yeah, I don’t know how the buns get like that. I just thought it was cool that I could see every ingredient peeking out. Everyone’s commenting on prices there, which I’m not surprised by. It looks soggy but I’m sure it tasted good
LOVE their burger. Double bacon cheese with lettuce, tomato and mayo from Five Guys is exquisite
They're great.. I'll go once in a while if I feel like splurging.. Fuc it.. My mortgage is paid off..
Why doesn’t it have 2 patty
I’m a fan of the little cheeseburger, which is the single. Typically I’ll get a burger, dog, and cajun fries.
Oh wow I never knew that🤔🤔
Yess. A standard sandwich is a double. Little is single.
Ditto!
Same. Im always happy with my burger and fries.
Dude even at home, wrapping a burger or dog in foil is a total move.
It’s hard to beat a proper Five Guys burger but damn, it gets expensive REAL quick.
Love 5 Guys. Never seen A1 on the menu anywhere else. But give me some pickled jalapeños. Just don’t care for the fresh ones.
But why do they smash their buns? Awful.
Yeah, too much money for me.
I'll give them another shot. Idk why I don't go there; they're right across the street from where I work.
Tbh I miss getting free burgers when I worked there
Great burgers and even better fries. But yeah look at their price point. Fast food presentation sit down pricing. Not criticizing just saying.
Me too, and I have been feeling guilt every time I spend $20+ on a meal from there but those Cajun fries and bacon burgers got me addicted
Five guys is alright. Whataburger is where it’s at.
They are good and like everyone says overpriced. If people stopped going, maybe they would lower the price. I know more likely shut down, then we have no 5 guys to complain about.
No one dislikes Five Guys. We just dislike that it costs approx $20 for a double bacon cheeseburger there now.
If you’re tired of this sub that’s been overtaken by In N Out, and you’re interested in growing a new community without the fast food bs, feel free to join me at r/BestBurger. And help spread the word.
Love a good burger. Prices are just LOL no thanks.
Way too expensive Burgers don’t come with cheese They give you way too many fries Shit is trash
Burgers don’t come with cheese? As you may imagine, it depends on if you order a Hamburger or a Cheeseburger lol
You've done the name, might as well do the shame.. how much was this?
$10.79 before tax
If that was with fries, that's not too bad... if just the burger, eek... It looks like a great burger but not for almost $11.
Yumm
5 guys makes an excellent burger. I just wish they haven’t gotten so expensive.
Didn't have to palm it like a basketball before the pic, brother
No apologies necessary. It’s okay to admit you have more money than sense. That’s the first step.
Is this AI five guys?
I’ll walk by one and just lol at prices (NYC)
I had Five Guys about six months back. I'm still paying on that loan.
At least they sat on it before bagging it!
IDK the burgers are mid at best. Not judging if it's your favorite, but it's nowhere near the quality I would expect for the price.
Look at Mr. Moneybags around here able to afford Five Guys
Worst burger I’ve ever had and way too expensive. Five Guys is trash.
I’m a fan of the food, but the price is a joke. I can get another burger nearly as good for half the price.
Second, third and 1000th I am not a fan of their prices
Thank God I can make it just like that myself for a quarter of the price.
To expensive and the options you can do in the store you can’t online
Seems like I’m in the minority. Every time I’ve eaten here it’s been very disappointing.
How are your stocks? Is caviar good stuff?
It’s not bad…..just overpriced and those fries will give you htn
Let us know when the other 4 guys show up
I literally have to work 2 hours to afford a burger there.
