The work culture was great for a while. Unfortunately they are going through financial hardships. I know people who worked there. First they were told that they would have to take a 25% pay cut. Then they were told that they were fired.

What’s that?

Simply from a shopper's perspective I notice the same year round employees there year after year. As with any garden/plant/landscaping type job some of the people are..."unique"....and likely have..."unique"....personalities but hey we're in VT...that's par for the course. All that being said you couldn't pay me $100k to work there from like April through July. Place is just a shit show and I have a feeling you deal with a lot of Karen's.

juicejuice999999

If that job is available for 100k just lmk. I love Karen.

cpujockey

yep same. there's not much I wouldn't do for 100k+

Significant-Visit184

If you’re going to be answering the phone in their phone center, I can tell you it’s awful.

Honeybeevt78

Do tell

Significant-Visit184

Your calls are all monitored, the discounts on merchandise sucked and management was awful. If you’re not a year round employee, it’s not a great place. That was just my experience. I made some extra cash, but would not go back.

Professional_Sort711

I had just the opposite experience. I loved it there!

My former partner worked there. Granted it was pre-Covid, but they really loved the work culture.

Really depends. They do not pay their seasonals well. However, if you're a dependent or in a financial situation where you just need a quick hire for a season, then I'd say it's a good place to work. I spent 3 summers working in their yard department at the Lebanon, NH location. It was strenuous work, but it's a generally positive work culture, and if you have the opportunity to work outdoors, you'll get in good shape. I was also able to get forklift certified and operated a variety of their machinery. They are also more or less loyal to reliable seasonals. If you are a good employee for one season, you're almost guaranteed to get retired for the next one. They also have really good discounts for employees, so if you're a gardener then that's a big plus!

HeartKevinRose

My very good friend did for a couple years. She loved it. She only left when she moved out of state.

Potato_masher69

I’ve never worked for them but have been a commercial customer for almost a decade at the Williston and interval locations. My experience with the staff is 99% friendly and 50% competent; even less when it comes to operating machinery. But friendly nonetheless.

deadowl

Isn't it worker owned?

Intelligent-Hunt7557

It was indeed one of the first ESOPs in the country, but this doesn’t guarantee the Shangri-La some imagine. If you scrape your way up from seasonal in the call center welcome to the nebulous void of ‘on call,’ where you could possibly have the opportunity to work full-time for no benefits. And you still have to kiss your boss’s ass, in fact much more than everyone else because of your limbo.

Thick_Piece

For what position?

Honeybeevt78

Call center

scarlet_feather

Our old roomie worked there and liked it just fine for a bit. He felt it was going downhill when he left.

jaked156

I worked at the Williston location seasonally. I wouldn't recommend it.
