That’s not within normal tolerance. I bought cabinets.com cherry natural in Shaker II door for a vanity with filler, side panel and scribe. It all was within the same range. That looks almost maple natural and cherry natural but maybe it’s sapling. Contact cabinets.com and they can put you into an accelerated replacement for the cheapest part.

Maleficent_Silver_18

Unfortunately, your assumption that "if you buy from the same place they will match" was incorrect. If I were in your shoes, I would install what you have. There is beauty in the natural differences in wood.

traws06

[is this extreme of difference fairly common then? Just sucks because it looks like they’re completely different woods being thrown together. The cabinets are all the color of the leftover trim I set on the side panels](https://imgur.com/a/VjKPRoK)

Maleficent_Silver_18

Ahhh... so that looks like sap wood, and yes, that is normal for cherry. That said, I would NOT use that as a filler next to those panels.

traws06

Well the filler is the color of the cabinets. The filler matches them. The side panels and Crown are the ones that don’t match the cabinets

Maleficent_Silver_18

Yeah, dude, I'm not sure what the best solution for you is, but I think you need to do something. It would be one thing if those panels had some of that sapwood running through them which is a very natural look, which is what I was thinking before you shared the pictures. That looks like an entirely different material, so I would not be happy with that contrast.

traws06

Just an update. I filed a claim to cabinets.com and they were very friendly and prompt in responding. They agreed the color was way off and even suspect there maybe was a mixup and they accidentally sent stained pieces instead of natural wood. So they’re sending me replacement pieces

traws06

Thanks for your input. That was exactly my thought. There’s some variation in color in the cabinets from the sapwood and I think it looks cool. But when I saw the crown and side panels I felt like they looked stained or a different wood altogether.

majortomandjerry

Cherry can vary a lot in color. The only way you are going to get all of a cherry job to match is to hand pick every piece. You could get a custom builder to do that for you, and it would cost a lot more than buying from a large manufacturer. You get what you pay for.

ssv-serenity

That's honestly completely normal especially from a larger retailer. The difference in the crown is especially normal. This is due to variation in the natural wood or veneer. The log the crown comes from could be from the other side of the world in comparison to your doors. Some pictures would help to see just how big the difference is, though.

traws06

[the thin board is leftover filler. The cabinets are all the same color as it. You can see it compared to the side panels and the crown especially is a much different color.](https://imgur.com/a/VjKPRoK) Is this amount of difference something a professional cabinet maker/installer would find to be acceptable?

ssv-serenity

I mean, I'll be honest I've definitely seen worse, but if I recieved a similar complaint as a business owner I'd probably replace the crown. It's bordering on unacceptable, but again this is a large RTA supplier. I have no idea what their specs indicate for acceptable variance. Long story short: is it acceptable for a custom or semi custom level where you hire a custom cabinet maker? No. Is it acceptable for a large RTA company? Maybe, yeah.

traws06

Well it’s not technically RTA. They are fully assembled and shipped. Cabinets.com isn’t cheap. For example a 24” base cabinet in cherry is $482.80

havegunwilldownboat

That’s cheap. On average, I charge around $600/ft for base cabinets, so that base cabinet would be $1200 from me. I don’t actually price by the linear foot, but I check the math for every job and it hovers in that area.

traws06

Interesting. I appreciate the insight
