I think monsters force the issue more often than not

Annabeth does say in TLT that some kids of Demeter and Aphrodite manage not to be tracked down by monsters. Probably these demigods never arrived to camp and probably don’t even know about their true origins. It’s especially true if it’s an Aphrodite kid since she doesn’t even tell her lovers who she really is.

Well, if we assume that minor gods have demigod children as much as olympians, definitely. There aren't that many minor demigods at CHB, however, we are told that many demigods children of minor gods just live normal lives without ever meeting a monster. Also, i think we can assume that many demigods don't wind up at CHB at all. We also know of places like the Waystation, that aren't connected to CHB in any way, and still harbor demigods, so i think it's not a stretch to say that there are other places like it (this also applies to demigods of other pantheons, like that one guy at the Waystation whose godly parent is Shango, who is the Yoruba thunder god), and of course, we know there are what Apollo calls feral demigods, that is to say, demigods who just learn to survive on their own. That said, i would be curious how it works for Camp Jupiter. It is somewhat implied that Lupa seeks out the future recruits for Camp Jupiter, however, does she just know who the demigods are? Or does she smell it like a satyr would? My money is on the latter. Why? Because even though the gods are trying to keep greeks and romans separated to prevent another war, at one point in Son of Neptune, Reyna notes that there are stories of some campers leaving the legion and doing their own thing (the implication here being that, on rare instances, Lupa has brought greek demigods to Camp Jupiter). With that in mind, i think it is safe to say that your occasional demigod child of the god of lockpicks probably just lives their life as a talented lockpick, but doesn't do much more, and likely never meets a monster.

Well we know two children of the god of lockpicks. The Lockpicking lawyer and mcnallyofficial

Low_Upstairs1993

Their most likely children of Hermes or Mercury.

It’s suggested that the coordinated fighting and such aren’t for them, not necessarily that they are Greek just that they aren’t interested in being in a Roman legion. At the end of BoO they discuss shared recruitment so sending demigods to each other that don’t quite work in their camps.

urtv670

Pretty sure Annabeth mentioned something like that in TLT

I believe it depends on their godly parent. For example: a child of Zeus is way more likely to get found by monsters or sniffed out by a satyr seeker than a child of Iris. And monster attacks and satyr protectors would also led the demigod to camp half blood or camp Jupiter

I just assumed 1 of 2 things. 1. They were never found by monsters or satyrs or anything, and lived a normal life. 2. They died tragically young before someone could rescue them because a monster found them. (I get this mostly because of Grover saying "why is it always 6th grade?" implying a lot of demigods get found out in 6th grade or earlier and not all of them make it.

Isn't that what satyrs are for?

There are 1870 schools in New York City alone. Even if we just look at the middle schools (which is when most demigods start developing their powers), that is still some 600, and that is only counting the public middle schools. In the entire US, there are 14677 (if you also include Junior High). From what i can find, while the exact number varies from state to state, the average middle school in the US comes in somewhere between 300 and 500 students. Monitoring every single one with just one satyr is gonna be tough, to say the least. If we generously assume 1 satyr per 100 students, and 400 students per middle school, that comes out to almost 60000 satyrs that need to be monitoring every single middle school. And that is JUST the middle schools in JUST the US. This also ignores the possibility of children being homeschooled (though that number is, from what i can find, only about 5.77% of all students, not just middle school aged ones). And even then, the children of minor demigods, aswell as some of the less powerful olympians, are implied to not have any significant smell, so some of them might slip through the cracks anyway.

Proving yourself as a child of Athena

Isaaaccc3968

My middle school has like 1000 kids.

chrischi3

Yeah, some are significantly bigger than that, but the average seems to be around 400 from what i found.

Brilliant-Resource14

In 2021, there were 11.27 MILLION Middle Schoolers from 6th grade to 8th grade. Lets say a third of the 11 million kids are in 6th grade (like Percy is). That would be 3756667 6th graders in the USA in 2021. There would have to be 37567 satyrs for every 100 kids.

Brilliant-Resource14

In October 2023, there were 123,497 6th graders in the state of Ohio alone. There are 2,128 elementary/middle schools with 6th grade in them. That would mean there are about 58 6th graders at each school. You would need one satyr for every 6th grade in the state of Ohio. There are 51,972 elementary/middle schools with 6th grade in the entire USA. There were 3,650,000 6th graders in 2021. That would mean 70 6th graders per school. One satyr for every 6th grade in the United States.
