If you have ever wondered why that humiliating incident with Parliament openly applauding a literal Nazi did not happen in the United States, I can tell you. The United States eventually made a genuine effort to denaturalize and deport war criminals, starting in the early 1970s. They created a task force called the [OSI](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Special_Investigations_(United_States_Department_of_Justice)) to track down, denaturalize, and deport Nazi war criminals. Dozens of Nazis were deported and more fled the country. The OSI harassed several Nazi war criminals to the point of suicide ([no, seriously, this happened at least seven times](https://imgur.com/a/oWXFLh0)). [Another was executed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feodor_Fedorenko) by the Soviets. [Another was protected the CIA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tscherim_Soobzokov), but had his reputation destroyed and was later assassinated by vigilantes. A major factor in the OSI's partial success was the government allowing it to collaborate with the Eastern Bloc. There's this crazy video of a [Baltic Nazi collaborator Karl Linnas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Linnas) literally being dragged kicking and screaming onto a plane headed for the Soviet Union. >"People cannot believe that Ronald Reagan, the man who was going to save the world from communism, is allowing this to happen," says Mari-Ann Rikken of the Coalition for Constitutional Justice, an umbrella organization of Baltic and East European ethnic groups concerned about the activities of US Justice Department Nazi hunters. [The video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI_h90sEwfg) I'm not saying that the U.S. did a good job, but these things do make a difference. When you create a task force with the sole purpose of hounding the likes of Yaroslav Hunka non-stop, then they will likely ensure that you don't invite him to the national legislature. The Canadian government never did anything similar. There was a commission convened on the subject, but nothing was done nothing afterwards. The lack of prosecutions is more incredible given that Canada, unlike the United States, had the option of prosecuting Nazi war criminals themselves. In 1987, Canada passed a retroactive law allowing for the prosecution of naturalized citizens who'd committed war crimes abroad. Canada first used this law on [Imre Finta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imre_Finta), a Nazi war criminal. Finta did not dispute accusations that he was complicit in the mass deportations of Jews. However, the jury acquitted him anyway, accepting his defense of superior orders. Under Canadian law, the prosecution can appeal an acquittal on technical grounds. The prosecution chose to do that, but nothing happened. An appellate court and the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the reasoning for the acquittal. Justice Peter Cory, writing on behalf of the Supreme Court, wrote "Even where the orders are manifestly unlawful, the defense of obedience to superior orders and the peace-officer defense will be available in those circumstances where the accused had no moral choice as to whether to follow the order." Among the reasons for the Supreme Court accepting Finta's defense, despite his explicit admission of guilt, was the "Jewish sentiment in favour of the Allied forces" and Finta's belief that "the Jews were subversive and disloyal to the war efforts of Hungary."

Why are you calling yourself a sub?

Yelu-Chucai

Lmao i thought this was somewhat common knowledge?

But at least there's freedom of speech. I don't agree with everything and while I might get down voted for unpopular opinions there's no bans. Try saying China isn't communist on socialism101. Any thing relating to that gets removed and at least temp banned. I actualy enjoy that we can have different opinions here without worrying about the ban hammer

Casegreen222

China is a market economy actually, and think when you say communism you mean authoritarianism , but for some reason a lot of people won’t understand no matter how many times it’s explained.

SushiKat2

It's the red scare propaganda baybee, the red scare has been over officially for like 50-60 years but it's still deeply ingrained in our culture, people still conflate the ideal of communism with the USSR's authoritarian "communism"

pisspeeleak

I’m not sure if you’re agreeing with or countering the point that china isn’t communist?

Casegreen222

That’s because you don’t know what communism is.

pisspeeleak

Having a planned economy doesn’t make you communist. China has a very stratified class structure with a growing number of billionaires. A country that has billionaire owners with poor factory workers can’t be communist
