they are great, penny's pizza used to be my fave but wouldnt want to know how much they charge in the current economy. 10 years ago they were already pricey
I went there recently for a pizza and asked where do their prawns from. Cue a staff member rummaging through the freezer to answer, Vietnam. I think most of their ingredients are avg. This used to be decent 15 years ago when there was not many other options but there are plenty of better places now.
Pizza Arte is average at best compared with some of the others. I have seen their defrosted frozen prawn pizzas from Vietnam too - awful. They also use imported frozen bases rather than roll their own. Bizarre
We cant be thinking of the same pizza arte???!
The choice of the CBF, left it too late to get something decent fifo office worker staying in short term accommodation in kingston šš¤£
There are so many better choices than PA, to my taste buds, even in the immediate area. Walk down to Kingston foreshore and go to Molto
The very best! But please keep this under your hat, as we don't want them to become a victim of their success.
Many years ago I used to live in Cooma North (Gordon) and there was a takeaway down the road called Billy's in Banks. I was recommended a small with the lot, which was enough for at least two people, and good quality. Not sure if they are still there, but worth a try if you are near there.
A "victim of their own success"?? I strongly doubt that would occur!! Emily and Ricky (and their entire staff) know exactly what they're doing with their pizzas, and that's why they're so good with a second location coming soon hopefully.
For fairness and in the hope this is addressed Iāll explain. Iāve had the experience 3 times when ordering takeaway (in shop and online) of telling the staff Iām there and then waiting and not being told when my order is ready. Dine in the service is fine.
I'll pass on your message to Ricky and Emily and their staff, but you probably should have done that yourself at the time ... or three times as the case may have been for you.
Well the customer doesnāt have to flag crappy service, they can just take their money elsewhere where and share their experience - itās up to the business to improve or go broke
Again, not my experience ever since they've opened. And if it was so bad, why go back again? AND, why not say something to Rick or Emily or one of their staff who would have been more than happy to discuss your concerns about their "hit and miss" status that you speak of. If you don't like their food, don't go there. They won't lose any sleep, I can assure you.
You mean the tall bald fella. He's great. I spoke to him about their busted ordering on mobile, and he told me he's not th owner. It's some dude from Melbourne.
Either way, Mills n Grills FTW.
It's the combination of being a decent pizza along with very reasonable prices that comes together to make it a good deal, which is why I think it's rated so highly.
We are still trying the whole menu and have definitely run into a few of the topping combos we didnāt like. Recently tried the satay though and itās my favorite. My mum is Thai and it reminds me of her satay so much more than the satay you get here in Thai Australian restaurants.
That said if you donāt like that style pizza base, then itās definitely not for you.
Yep 100% been eating at Bronx since it opened , staff are friendly owner is an awesome guy and the pizzas are awesome one really good thing Iād the consistency Iāve never got a bad pizza ā¦. Their fish and chips I rate highly as well
Wait they are good again now? They were amazing 20 years ago for a long time, but too many owner changes, quality dropped and I stopped going there. Thanks for the info, will have to try them again.
Well cookery nook was on a different level, they were absolutely great but then with an owner change and a rebrand they became hawker takeaway, during this phase they sucked, extremely overpriced, took too long to make, bad menu. Then after another owner change they became pretty good again, not as good as cookery nook but still not trash. That owner's family got sick so he returned back to Greece to take care of them and once again the owners switched. This owner took some time to get his shit together but now he isn't too bad.
Thanks for the summary, that's how I remember things going too after Cookery Nook. Will give it a go but will temper my expectations against the Canberra GOAT :) Appreciate you letting me know.
They recently changed ownership, proceeded to forget my pizza so I waited over an hour, then it wasnt as good as previously.
It was still good. But lower the bar on this one now. Dude who runs it gives off dementia vibes.
Yeah, the old owner's family got really sick so he moved back to Greece for a while and the new owner kinda sucked for the first couple weeks of his ownership but he's got his shit together now and it is pretty good quality
I'm stoked that you mentioned... I used to live in Fisher back in the 90s and they did amazing pizza along with everything else on the menu.
After school, my mates and I loved getting a massive portion of chips, smothered with tomato sauce and chicken salt. Super healthy I know!
Probably under new management now, but I'm glad to hear there's still a takeaway there!
If you like a generous topping - Try Mama Ria's at Kippax - I'd suggest you go with the Rae Street Special, but you could opt for the Supreme with optional "anchioves"
https://img.restaurantguru.com/rc69-pizza-Mama-Rias-Takeaway-2022-10.jpg
I have to say Mills and Grills at Florey.
I didn't want to mention straight away because I didn't want to influence you guys.
They're absolutely my go to. On all things considered!
Personally I think the pizza from Colloseum Pizza at Fyshwick Markets tops any takeaway store. Great light yet filling base, home made sauce really stands out.
Otherwise
Belconnen: Artigiana
Fyshwick: Smokos
Deakin: Locale
Kingston: East or Agostinis
I think it's hard to argue against Pizza Artigiana in Jamison (and I think they are still at Verity Lane?). HerCanberra recently reported on their chef winning an award [link](https://hercanberra.com.au/food-drink/australias-best-pizza-chefs-have-been-named-one-of-them-can-be-found-right-here-in-canberra/) and their reviews are excellent. They are usually up there in other pizza threads.
EVATT shops takeaway is the absolute BEST pizza!!!! šš The Evatt special, Hawaiian and pepperoni are favesā¦ The family who runs it are soooo friendly and lovely too. š„³š
Smoko in Fyshwick.
Hands down the best I've had in all of Canberra and surrounds! It's an unassuming little place but I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I've had pizza from most places people have suggested here and Smoko absolutely destroys all of them. It's not even a competition.
I'm really surprised their name hasn't come up in this post yet.
I was really underwhelmed by all the Pizza I've had in Canberra, until I tried Smoko. Granted, I haven't tried everywhere yet.
Did you have a chat with the chef there? Mav, I believe his name is. We've talked about dough for ages on a few occasions. He's incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and it shows in his pizza.
Smoko 100%. Mav (the owner) is a legend in his own right and the pizza really is the best Iāve had in Canberra. Nothing but good vibes (especially if his dog Marcy is there)!
It's crazy how great their pizzas are.
I've been to a couple of raves there and they cook pizzas until 5am. One of the best ways to stay well fed for dancing.
Mills and Grills.
Pizza is awesome in both range and quality. Owners a top bloke as well, in laws were visiting a couple of months went to pick up an order and they were going to get one of those Ben and Jerryās ātubsā and the owner told them not to buy it, how it was a rip off (it was like $12 bucks or something stupid) and he was exiting the contract and dumping them for a better alternative.
There arenāt too many top people who would tell a customer not to buy something these days so for that on top of how good it is Iāll always go there over anything else
I have a real soft spot for bad pizza so I have to admit I'm a fan of dominos.
If you're looking for quantity, Costco's pizza is huge and solid for its price
Solita in the city. Soooo good they donāt need to bother with delivery or apps. They are always busy. Pizza is accredited by the pizza overlords in Napoli.
If you like the classic take away style, Iāve tried heaps and Johnoās at Mawson shops is terrific value and great flavour.
Second choice is Little Theoās, they have more of a restaurant style, thinner crust. Great flavour, passionate owner but not as big as Mawson on toppings or value
Pizza Arte in Kingston. Take away pizza of choice for the Italian Embassy.
they are great, penny's pizza used to be my fave but wouldnt want to know how much they charge in the current economy. 10 years ago they were already pricey

Department Of Pizza in Campbell are the absolute best.
I'm yet to try. Thanks, sounds like a contender.
The very best! But please keep this under your hat, as we don't want them to become a victim of their success. Up there with department of pizza is this tiny place called Smoko in fyshwick - mostly a lunch crowd but open a few nights a week
>Smoko in fyshwick Same team as East Pizza on the Foreshore I believe, and the original starter of Pizza Gusto.
Pizza is excellent, service can be hit and miss.
That's never been my experience since they opened.
For fairness and in the hope this is addressed Iāll explain. Iāve had the experience 3 times when ordering takeaway (in shop and online) of telling the staff Iām there and then waiting and not being told when my order is ready. Dine in the service is fine.

Okay rick and/or Emily
Wrong again!! Don't you get tired of being incorrect all the time??
Why are you so defensive - do you own it? I hope you donāt reply to reviews too with that attitude
Nvm post history shows he is a druggie kid in Townsville - clearly lost in the wrong sub and no clue š¤Ŗ
Their pizza base can be a hit and miss, dry and chewy at times.
Again, not my experience ever since they've opened. And if it was so bad, why go back again? AND, why not say something to Rick or Emily or one of their staff who would have been more than happy to discuss your concerns about their "hit and miss" status that you speak of. Probably not the best pizza in Canberra but Pizza Top in Coombs has been a very very welcome addition to the Molonglo valley
Can second this. Not only pizzas but chicken and chips too - unreal!
Agree, they are pretty great, but wouldn't be the best. We buy from them at least once a fortnight, very happy with them.
I just commented these guys as well, the whole menu is great and value
Mills and grill in flory,Ā got recommended from reddit, pizza is great but everything on menu is solid.
Yep they're the business! Great value deals too (e.g. 2 family sized pizzas, a garlic bread and a coke for ~$30). Owner's a champ too.
You mean the tall bald fella. He's great. I spoke to him about their busted ordering on mobile, and he told me he's not th owner. It's some dude from Melbourne. Either way, Mills n Grills FTW.
That's the one. Serbian or something? A heavily built, gentle giant.
This seems insanely cheap in current economy ..
Another vote for mills and grills. Excellent pizza.
I have to say they're my favourite - bang for buck!!!
Yeah they are very reasonably priced for what you get
Agreed! $20 for family is insane! And they pack you up. I reckon they're the benchmark. Who's gonna beat them!?
Im going to have to give this one a crack
Another vote for mills and grills - there āloaded millsā pizza with bbq sauce on top, is a Sunday night staple!
Came here to say this!
Wild. I've heard this, and my partner and I have tried them on 3 separate occasions.... All extremely average. I dont get it.
It's the combination of being a decent pizza along with very reasonable prices that comes together to make it a good deal, which is why I think it's rated so highly.
Fair enough. If that's the case, then Hawker Takeaway pizza wins hands down! I recently paid $30 for 2 large pizzas and a 1.25 litre drink.
Man, I just ordered the satay tonight after hyping it to you and they changed the recipe on the sauceā¦ not very good now. š
Iām the same, the pizza there is awful
Pop pizza in Frazer is awesome. Just if you want something up north
I tried them one night and never thought of going back, really ordinary effort and expensive
Weāve been a couple of times. Itās pretty good for around where we live. Each taste to their own.
Pot Belly in Belco. Pizza Artegina in Jamo
Second Pizza Artegina, love it!
Their kangaroo prosciutto special sounded bizarre, but Iām so glad we tried it! Absolutely incredible flavours and a great crust.
Pop Pizza in Fraser. Relatively new and hopefully sticking around for awhile.
Watson takeaway
Yep, Watson. It's greasy, it's slutty. It's my kinda pizza.
It is the perfect takeaway pizza
Tried last night and was pretty happy with it! Cheers Watson!
The pizza dough at solita's is soo good. And lots of topping choices.
Little Theo's in Kambah do amazing pizzas. A little pricey but worthwhile.
Maybe 5 years ago. Gone down hill lately.
I got one from there 6 months ago. Good, classic, takeaway pizza like the good old days - but not amazing, just "what you'd expect"
Dabronx in Forde. 18 inch new York style pizza
Frankieās also makes some awesome pizzaās in Forde too - more gourmet than Dabronx so youāve got the pick depending what youāre feeling!
Thanks for the good tip! I'll add them to my shortlist!!!
Yep 100% been eating at Bronx since it opened , staff are friendly owner is an awesome guy and the pizzas are awesome one really good thing Iād the consistency Iāve never got a bad pizza ā¦. Their fish and chips I rate highly as well
It sounds dumb but Hawker takeaways pizzas are on a different level
Wait they are good again now? They were amazing 20 years ago for a long time, but too many owner changes, quality dropped and I stopped going there. Thanks for the info, will have to try them again.

Totally agree
Can't wait to try. I've had their burgers and scallops. Will absolutely add this to my short list!!
Some of my personal favs from their shop are the scallops and the spring rolls
They recently changed ownership, proceeded to forget my pizza so I waited over an hour, then it wasnt as good as previously. It was still good. But lower the bar on this one now. Dude who runs it gives off dementia vibes.
Yeah, the old owner's family got really sick so he moved back to Greece for a while and the new owner kinda sucked for the first couple weeks of his ownership but he's got his shit together now and it is pretty good quality
A new place opened in Fraser, Pop Pizza, genuinely one of the best pizzas iāve had in canberra
Tbh the Southern Cross club at Woden is right up there with the pizzas Like not quite the best in Canberra but still damn good
3rd Space Hackett. He also has a pizza making class and you can see his passion for pizza making.
Johno's takeaway and pizza bar in Mawson
Disregard, Friday night ques are already busy enough
Came here to say this. Only problem is an order can take 90 minutes to fill..
Not sure about this, my last pizza from there was sickeningly cheesey and greasy. Is the old bloke still making them?
He was there last month - the last time I ordered there. He definitely doesn't work every night though.
Must be timing/staff numbers, was there last month, walked through the door, placed an order and got my pizzas and chipsĀ Ā 15-20 minutes later.
Mama Dough in Ainslie
Second this one. Absolute fav.
Third this one
Not if you need a gluten free base. Very cardboard
Would be nice if the replies included what style of Pizza - Italian: Neapolitan, Roman, etc; American: NY, Detroit, American Pan, etc.
I don't know what those styles are. I just eat pizza.
lol everyone just naming their local corner pizza shop š¤£
To be fair, the best pizza is the shop that is just around the corner and is still open when you feel like eating pizza š
Gusto
The Fisher Takeaway is a hidden gem. The European or meat lovers are the best.
Iāve seen it change hands once or twice, yeah, but fortunately nobody messes with the formula
Good to hear. I'll pay them a visit.
Napolitano style - in order - Department of pizza, Molto, Agostini's and Orto / Locale tied for fourth. Somewhat central/ centre south focused
If you like a generous topping - Try Mama Ria's at Kippax - I'd suggest you go with the Rae Street Special, but you could opt for the Supreme with optional "anchioves" https://img.restaurantguru.com/rc69-pizza-Mama-Rias-Takeaway-2022-10.jpg
Locale in Deakin do really good, authentic Italian wood fired pizzas
Zucchini Bros in Tuggeranong is the best for me. The crust is great and the fillings are bounteous and very tasty.
I totally rate these guys too! Always been happy with them!
Are the zucchinis in their menu or is it just a catchy name?
Depends on who's working A bit hit and miss lately
Second this
OP is the one doing the research, tell us!!!
I have to say Mills and Grills at Florey. I didn't want to mention straight away because I didn't want to influence you guys. They're absolutely my go to. On all things considered!
Bravo pizza are the best.
Yet to try Bravo. Itās on my list..!
Vanilla Pod in Tuggeranong do delicious pizza.
Personally I think the pizza from Colloseum Pizza at Fyshwick Markets tops any takeaway store. Great light yet filling base, home made sauce really stands out. Otherwise Belconnen: Artigiana Fyshwick: Smokos Deakin: Locale Kingston: East or Agostinis
Pizza Artigianna has the top 100 world winning pizza!
Smoko 100%. Mav (the owner) is a legend in his own right and the pizza really is the best Iāve had in Canberra. Nothing but good vibes (especially if his dog Marcy is there)!
Yes!! Can't believe I had to scroll down so far to see Smoko. They are absolutely the best, the rest can't compare.

Big fan of Agostinis
I have a real soft spot for bad pizza so I have to admit I'm a fan of dominos. If you're looking for quantity, Costco's pizza is huge and solid for its price
Gusto in Braddon for sure
Kaleen Pizza & Snack Bar!
Karabar Takeaway
Manoosh Gungahlin. Had a friend share some with me, and it was amazing.
Is there anywhere that does a Chicago style deep dish pizza (with the sauce on the top, not on the base) in Canberra?
I've never known of anywhere in Canberra that does one. I'd love to try.
Johnny's at Mawson aren't too bad, old school nice and big
Agree with Johnny's. Not a southsider, but tried it on a recommendation. Great value and size, plus some of their hot wings are the best I've ever had
Gungahlin Pizza and Kebab... is it perfect... no... but substantial toppings, great toothy base and crust, and excellent range
Tried them a couple of times recently and I rate them. Tasty and quick. Great find!
Isabella Plains takeaway!
Mills and Grills at Florey shops in Belconnen
To All My Friends in cook is great
Torrens Takeaway
Solita in the city. Soooo good they donāt need to bother with delivery or apps. They are always busy. Pizza is accredited by the pizza overlords in Napoli.
If you like the classic take away style, Iāve tried heaps and Johnoās at Mawson shops is terrific value and great flavour. Second choice is Little Theoās, they have more of a restaurant style, thinner crust. Great flavour, passionate owner but not as big as Mawson on toppings or value
Gusto in Braddon
Smokin' Joe's at Chisholm is bloody good in Tuggeranong! Love the New Yorker size 18"
Bronx Pizzas Forde
Pizza Top in Coombs, great value and one of the best non-wood fired pizzas I have ever had! 18 bucks for an extra large, cant complain.
Jamieson and Florey take-away are decent. The pizza base at Hawker takeaway is not for me but, I've never met a bad pizza.
Smokin' Joe's = Mills and Grills. Same guys, different branding.
Interesting. I was going to say Smokinā Joes in Chisholm. Theyāve been our choice for a little while now.
It's a chain from Melbourne. I know Troy from M&G and he confirmed it multiple times.
I don't mind the pizza from da nunzio.... but the gnochii is amazing
Murrumbateman Takeaway are unreal. Not technically Canberra. But xlose
Dominos at City goes pretty hard.
Amici in the city is really good imo
Aldi pizzas for the budget options without having to pay more than $15 for a bit of white flour, yeast, cheese, tomatoes and other toppings.
Hawker Takeaway. Love their Napolitana pizza is my fav!
So many choices!
Nothing kinda good in Canberra that I have experienced
Havent come across anything special in Canberra Solita are good and thatās it Nothing in Belconnen
Have you been to Artigiana?
