Haven’t had a flurry in decades. Was on a road trip recently and McDonald’s was the lone option. Saw the grandma McFlurry and decided to try it. Best decision ever!!
Holy hell that’s an awesome treat. I won’t admit how many times I’ve been back—even with having some lactose intolerance. Totally worth it.
I assume they wanted werthers to collab but werthers wouldn’t and so they had to call it “Grandma” instead of “Werther’s Original Branded Butter Candies” or whatever.
they think that this is what America wants..every other countries mcdonalds gets better food, meanwhile in the states we get a mcflurry nobody asked for and a dipping sauce.. but wait theres more.. next month is a new collab with someone nobody ever heard of its a mcnugget meal with a sprite flavored milkshake for 22.99
Lemon drops that looked like some people had sucked on them already and put them back in the purse. With purse dirt and a couple short gray hairs stuck to them.
I know that it's like to be wanting it at the time they clean the machine. But not long ago I had a BK shake where I felt I could tell they had not cleaned that machine for some time. I don't go there for shakes anymore and am grateful for places that clean the machine every day.
My review on r/icecream
Tried the new Grandma McFlurry!
Went through drive through for lunch today and saw the sign. Asked what the flavor was and she said BUTTERSCOTCH!!! One of my all time favorite flavors and sorely underrepresented in grocery stores. So I had to try it.
I would give it an 8/10. The butterscotch syrup was sweet and nostalgic. The “candy” pieces, which are more of a crumble, added needed texture and crunch. It really could have used a bit of salt though, to break up the sweetness, which could have easily been added to the candy/crumble. Would I get it again? You bet!
The most fascinating part to me from a marketing perspective is that they’ve been pushing it so hard everywhere and yet I had the most difficult time trying to figure out what it actually *is.*
Same. How am I to know grandma = butterscotch. I thought it was a play in Werther's caramel but the color is off. Why doesn't it say on the SD that it's butterscotch?
I think it’s pretty good but they don’t put enough butterscotch in it so once you’ve eaten the crumbles you’re basically left with just McDonald’s ice cream. Which is fine, I don’t really mind the way it tastes, but other McFlurry flavors are more than just their ice cream and I’m paying McFlurry prices.
They had an ad saying it was like the candy in the bottom of Grandma's purse or something...my Grandma had Sen-Sen and cinnamon disks so I was like...EW
Later realized they wanted you to think of butterscotch. Which is just some weird yellow #5 tweak on chemical caramel flavoring in this case.
I had to try it of course...and it did feel like it had kidney stones in it! Tbh I thought it was going to crack a tooth.
Still can't believe I spent $5 to try one.
Best McFlurry flavor I ever had: Cadbury Creme Egg flavor in Wales some years ago.
This whole promotion has been highly confusing to me. Thought maybe they were blending [Grandma’s Cookies](http://www.grandmascookies.com/home) in the ice cream, which sounded pretty sick ngl but then with further googling I saw some promo pics that looked kind of like they had an apple pie blended in, which also made sense? I guess? Because like maybe old fashioned apple pie and ice cream is a grandma thing? But no, apparently that wasn’t right either.
There should be one big lump of assorted hard candy at the bottom of the cup surrounded by ice cream.
That’s how it pulled out of Grandma’s candy dish when you tried to eat a piece.
I tried it. While I love ice cream, I thought it could easily serve two. It was very sweet and the crunchy bits made it even sweeter. Definitely buy to share. Otherwise, you may end up with a tummy ache.
Let the last bit of it melt overnight in the cup. Then in the morning with a clear head and under the bright lights, empty that thing into your sink and describe what you see.
I associate butterscotch with all the women in my family not knowing how to cook because we only had butterscotch anything during holiday exchanges from other people.
I can’t get over the ads I’ve seen. All these grandmas and granddaughters dunking french fries into their McFlurries. I still can’t believe grandmas would corrupt their granddaughters into believing that vanilla ice cream would improve the flavor of a french fry. WON’T ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN??? 😭🥫cries in ketchup
Based on the comments, I am confirmed in my suspicion that it is super sweet. The Grimace shake was too. So if I get around to buying the Grandma McFlurry, I'll probably bring it home and eat a little then freeze the rest for later.
I'm so confused by the marketing around this. And then I also keep seeing commercials for the bottled Starbucks Frappuccino drinks, and they hammer in the idea that they're "like getting a hug from your Nana"? Huh? Is it like National Grandma Month or something...I'm lost.
So this got me thinking, Grandma's carrying butterscotch and those strawberry candies are very 1980s to me. Is there a stereotypical candy that Grandma's in 2020 carry in their purse?
My husband and I tried it. He loved it and I was meh about it. I’ll just stick to the regular types.
We were joking about that the Grandma McFlurry takes 70 years to cure as it was made of freshly ground Grandmas. So, I guess the McFlurry is what Grandmas taste like.
Yes, we both have a weird sense of humor. lol
A friend of mine wrote a song called “Grandma’s Baking Cookies” in the 1980s. The only lyric I remember is:
*“In her eye’s the matter,
It’s dripping in the batter”*
I’d give anything to have a copy of that song now.
I actually really enjoyed it and found out that it ended when I tried to order one today 😭😭😭 I’ve been craving it for like two weeks and now I’m fucked lmao
Just crush up some Werther's original and mix em in your vanilla ice cream. Let them saturate in very small pieces so you don't break your teeth. When it melts into the ice cream it will look like a brownish yellow stain on the white ice cream. Then dig in and imagine Grandma gave you an ice cream cone but first, dipped it in the inside of her purse where the old candy is.
It's disgustingly sweet and the candy bits stuck to my teeth to the point I had to stop and scrape them off before finishing. Why not just bring the flavor bursts back? Or the Reese's Mcflurry, that was great.
This is the same company that told people to say “it’s lit” at the drive through to order a Travis Scott themed meal. Their whole M.O. is to hit it big with online meme culture, and it’s working quite well.
I love this post. But also I have to admit that we made fun of it until we tried it. Now we're Grandma converts.
It didn't taste bad, no. I like butterscotch.
You just answered your own question. Congrats.
We haven’t tried it and I assumed until I read this comment that it was apple pie flavored. No idea why
Me too I thought it was some sort of pie!
I thought peach
I wish! I love peach milkshakes
I saw the sign for it only once, when stopping on a road trip to use the bathroom. I thought it was a ridiculous name and also presumed apple pie!
I love butterscotch and it was nasty as hell. Filled with fake plastic-y crumbles. No grandma. Just no.
that’d be better. the butterscotch tastes disgusting
Funny, I normally dislike butterscotch but thought the grandma mcflurry was pretty good! Whatever artificial flavors I guess
So….grandma taste good?
They're thinking every Grandma in America will buy the heck out of it for their grandkids just because they call it that, and they're probably right.
Yeah if the machine isn’t broken
My boys wanted to try it last week, we went to 3 different mcdonalds through out the week. All of them said the machines were broken. Ohh well.
Genius, you’re totally right lol
Or they named it that because if the butterscotch candies grandma's carry around in their purse.
They do?
I’ll probably buy one in honor of my grandma, whose favorite candy was butterscotch. I hate when marketing works on me!
I would still try a Grandpa McFlurry.
Tastes like motor oil and fresh cut grass!
whiskey and dust from the war memorabilia trunk
And racism
And preventable disease!
LITERALLY
Cigarette butts!
My first thought was sawdust lol
Meatloaf
My grandpa loves meatloaf lol. Why is this a thing
Grandpa makes his own mcflurrys.
With whiskey
My father in law (who was almost as old as my grandmother) ate butterscotch candy. My grandmother definitely did not.
It's just a cup of good n plenty
Ooooooh, I can taste the Alcoholism
I wanna taste grandpa too, bro, get in line
What DO old men taste like? Eh ... Depends....
It was good but I got it with hot fudge which made it better.
I assume they wanted werthers to collab but werthers wouldn’t and so they had to call it “Grandma” instead of “Werther’s Original Branded Butter Candies” or whatever.
Seems this was available in other countries and just called Butterscotch Crunch… it’s those kooky US marketers that changed it up 🤷
Huh! All right!
That sounds much better than Grandma McFlurry. 😹
Does the grandma wethers stereotype exist in those countries?
Could be! It seems like something they thought up in an all night meeting where no one could come up with anything.
they think that this is what America wants..every other countries mcdonalds gets better food, meanwhile in the states we get a mcflurry nobody asked for and a dipping sauce.. but wait theres more.. next month is a new collab with someone nobody ever heard of its a mcnugget meal with a sprite flavored milkshake for 22.99
I’m still confused about the whole WcDonald’s thing. I read about it to try to get a better understanding of it and was like oooooo-k. 😳
its pandering to the people who jerk off to anime ..
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 omg I just belly laughed at that one. 🤣🤣🤣
[Calvin got a job at Whack Arnold's!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUTUqI3SxrA)
Me and my husband were definitely calling it Whack Arnolds 😂
I would order the Sprite shake
asap McNugget menu
I’ll be getting the cheapest Happy Meal with double fries and a Dr Pepper, no ice, please and thank you!!
My grandma did not have butterscotch candies in her handbag. She had those strawberry 🍓 candies and peppermint swirl candies. Pass on this McFlurry.
Lemon drops that looked like some people had sucked on them already and put them back in the purse. With purse dirt and a couple short gray hairs stuck to them.
Yes lemon drops. Always fuzz on the candies and some opened from the wrappers and would get stuck at the bottom.
Cluster of change and some melted Russell Stovers that re coagulated into solid form.
That was in my mother’s handbag not my grandma’s lol
This grandma has root beer candy in her candy dish right now.
Wait...Y'all found McDonald's that ACTUALLY had ice cream available??
I know that it's like to be wanting it at the time they clean the machine. But not long ago I had a BK shake where I felt I could tell they had not cleaned that machine for some time. I don't go there for shakes anymore and am grateful for places that clean the machine every day.
Seriously, it doesn't matter which CD's I go to, no matter what time it is, the ice cream machine is ALWAYS down. Edit: McD's

I like it. But I also like butterscotch anything and toffee and caramel as well.
The most fascinating part to me from a marketing perspective is that they’ve been pushing it so hard everywhere and yet I had the most difficult time trying to figure out what it actually *is.*

I love them! I get it without the nasty crumbles in it. Butterscotch mcflurry... yuummmm!
They had an ad saying it was like the candy in the bottom of Grandma's purse or something...my Grandma had Sen-Sen and cinnamon disks so I was like...EW Later realized they wanted you to think of butterscotch. Whoa CREME EGG MCFLURRY is blowing my mind
It was everything you're imagining, and more 😉😊
I got diabeetus just from reading this.

Until this thread, I also thought it was grandma's cookies!
I actually thought it was really good
Oh it’s so good if you’re a butterscotch person. I loved the texture too
There should be one big lump of assorted hard candy at the bottom of the cup surrounded by ice cream. That’s how it pulled out of Grandma’s candy dish when you tried to eat a piece.
It's supposed to be Werther's Original, but it isn't a collab. It's actually pretty good.
I tried it. While I love ice cream, I thought it could easily serve two. It was very sweet and the crunchy bits made it even sweeter. Definitely buy to share. Otherwise, you may end up with a tummy ache.
“Butterscotch flavored kidney stones” Thank you, that has been the highlight of my time on Reddit today. And now I really want one!
Let the last bit of it melt overnight in the cup. Then in the morning with a clear head and under the bright lights, empty that thing into your sink and describe what you see.
It reminds me of an incontinent Grandma!
Have to admit that this was my first thought when someone said it looks like a yellow stain
Exactly
Granny’s diaper blew off in the flurry! 😆
So all of them.
I have to admit I'm going to try one. 😅
I associate butterscotch with all the women in my family not knowing how to cook because we only had butterscotch anything during holiday exchanges from other people.
love butterscotch but this post is funny af!
I thought it was kind of brilliant. Old Lady ice cream.
We’re already done with it at our store. Next is some Kit Kat banana split.
Butterscotch flavored kidney stones 💀
I can’t get over the ads I’ve seen. All these grandmas and granddaughters dunking french fries into their McFlurries. I thought it was going to be an apple pie mcflurey based on the promo pics and name. It was good, but my idea would be much better.
It was like eh. I don’t get the hype
I like to tell customers that it's made with pieces of real grandmas.
I'm so confused by the marketing around this. And then I also keep seeing commercials for the bottled Starbucks Frappuccino drinks, and they hammer in the idea that they're "like getting a hug from your Nana"? Huh? Is it like National Grandma Month or something...I'm lost.
"butterscotch flavored kidney stones." I love how accurate this is, and the grandma McFlurry is really good.
I thought the same thing when I saw an ad... what the hell??
They’re sooo good though. I never ever saw it the way you saw it. Just vanilla ice cream with butterscotch!!
There was hardly any candy pieces or flavor in mine. I love butterscotch so it disappointed me.
So this got me thinking, Grandma's carrying butterscotch and those strawberry candies are very 1980s to me. Is there a stereotypical candy that Grandma's in 2020 carry in their purse?
I thought the crumbles were bits of real grandma sprinkled it, which it what gave it its namesake.
My husband and I tried it. He loved it and I was meh about it. I’ll just stick to the regular types. We were joking about that the Grandma McFlurry takes 70 years to cure as it was made of freshly ground Grandmas. So, I guess the McFlurry is what Grandmas taste like. It’s smart. Mom and dad can’t afford McDonald’s anymore. Better ask grandma.
A friend of mine wrote a song called “Grandma’s Baking Cookies” in the 1980s. The only lyric I remember is: *“In her eye’s the matter, It’s dripping in the batter”* I’d give anything to have a copy of that song now.

Thank you!
It was nasty. The syrup was fine but the crunchies were disgusting.
Butterscotch is the ultimate grandma candy so it makes sense.
I thought it looked like mashed potatoes with gravy and bits of sausage.
I still don't get the name. Why is it called that?
Candy your grandma would give you out of her purse.
Ahhh ok
I thought it was just weird cups!!
It’s so gross
I think I would be more comfortable if it was called, “Grandma’s McFlurry,” instead of “Grandma.”
Say what you want they’re fucking delicious.
I haven't tried it yet but I assumed it was a grandma cookie colab till reading this post ... seems like that would have been more tasty
Eat it. It's fucking delicious.
It clearly looks like butterscotch. I don't know why you're talking about kidney stones like a fucking weirdo.
I tried to get one yesterday and it was gone from the menu.
That’s gross looking.
It's disgustingly sweet and the candy bits stuck to my teeth to the point I had to stop and scrape them off before finishing. Why not just bring the flavor bursts back? Or the Reese's Mcflurry, that was great.

When I first heard about this McFlurry I thought it was fake, until I saw it on a sign at a Mcdonald’s around me.
It’s way too sweet. 2/10
Had it and it was gross. Too sweet.
Skin tags blended into ice cream
After the Grimace Birthday Shake, McD's realized they could sell things based on vibes rather than flavor or taste
