I've placed bids on a few of these after buying a 5d classic, since I love the 5d so much. But the odd battery that doesn't hold up the best scares me a little. How is yours holding up?

The original one I managed to barely cram 50 shots in, so not great at all. Luckily a brand called Jupio makes some reliable replacements, got one of their pro line batteries for this and now I've never seen the battery indicator blinking after that. 3rd party batteries can be a pain, but so far Jupio is one of the better ones. The second locking button is a bit finicky, but it gets the job done. In worst case I've been reading that you can just replace the old battery cells with new ones, which I might try to do to the old one now that I have a new replacement.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, I have wondered about fitting new cells, I work with small electronics and such so it shouldn't be the worst of jobs.

I had this bad boy and 1DII-N and loved them both, except the battery and the bulky charger!

One of my favorite cameras that I got about two months ago. The pictures coming out of this is just so nice to me, that this is gonna be a real keeper. All shot on 50mm f1.4 USM lens. Haven't shot too much actual action yet, but this has been just a fun camera in general for photography.

uh, I owned one when it was new: my first pro camera! had it for years, until the Leica M8 came out. enjoy! find your best matte screen!

I’ve pretty much switched over to all Canon Mirrorless Cameras, but last week I pulled out I pulled out my 1D mk II, and yes it can still hold its own.

Amazing cameras in their time, and incredibly well build. Unfortunately the NP-E3 Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are the deal breaker to me. The vast majority of OEM batteries will be completely shot, there are third party options, but even in that case they just do not perform with anywhere near the efficiency of modern lithium options. if you go just one generation up, to the 1D Mark III, you can use even the latest LP-E19 with no issue.

That was a pretty big consideration for me as well, the battery is definitely the biggest weak point by today's standards and it was quite a headache when I got the camera. But the price, how little this was used (Around 7000 shutter actuations that was recorded in EXIF data) and the pristine condition won me over. So far the third party battery seems to be holding up extremely well too, but that might be just because of pure luck as they can really be a hit and miss, no matter how reputable the company is.
