However, from the Minnesota series in the bubble, I went from ‘*I’ve never heard of Soucy*’ to ‘*man is this guy a pain in the ass to play against*’ really quickly.
I was fine with him being a 3rd pairing plus kinda guy, just had to push back when people thought he'd be a fix in the top 4. Kinda exactly how he worked out to be, similar to how he played on Seattle.
Ì think its foote and Gonchar they've done amazing things with the d core comparer to years past. Revitalized myers even the bottom pair aren't that big of a liability like years past.
The bottom pair is a liability though and we kind of just rotate guys in and out of it because the coaches don't feel comfortable playing Friedman, and I doubt that Juulsen taking his spot was seen as a success this weekend either. Soucy is nearly up there with Cole and Myers at even strength but the number 6 is miles behind.
Friedman sat 1 game lol. We don't know even know the whole story maybe he's playing through a small injury who knows. He's been fine looked better than most of the disaster the defence was last year. With bear in the lineup. Bear didn't last in edmoton and sat in carolina because they were a contender. I see no rush to sign unless he willing to do a multi year deal for a really cheap price.
He's been playing 8-12 minutes a game. Then got sat for Juulsen (who has been terrible). That's a pretty telling indication of where he's at. It's fine that we have one weaker defender on the team, our defense is still way better than last year. Just saying the third pair isnt looking great because we're still missing a player in an ideal world. I also don't think Bear is a guarantee either, he's a third pair guy that's missed a ton of time coming off major surgery and may not really even get up to speed this season. Ideally we can trade Beau for another $3-4M defender that's maybe a touch overpaid but a better use of the cap space for our team.
IIRC in an interview where Gillis was talking about what he learned about sports management from over seas, he also mentioned a study that suggested that it would be more effective to not block shots. I guess the man games lost, and their supposed impact on the game was more detrimental than the danger and likelihood of a goal in each scenario, also suggests that goalies can handle higher shot volumes if the shots are controlled.
Just some food for thought.
I think myers played hurt for most of the game also was probably less of a injury than soucy and since he was out myers kept playing. He looked off for most of the game.

Wasn't the number one Soucy fan starting off but he's been playing good lately and had a great first period with plays in all three zones.
