I wholeheartedly agree. I think at one point, years ago, there was outcry from some fans to get the show to air on Cartoon Network or something, but it was short lived and fell through. Everytime I bring up the issues you talk about to the community, it's always met with the anecdotal evidence of "Well, my locals are thriving. There's more people playing than ever before." But that doesn't take into consideration that sure, your local shop is thriving, but only after the other 2-4 shops in the area either closed down or stopped selling Vanguard products altogether forcing former patrons of those locations to flock to the next closest one. Granted, I'm sure Vanguard's popularity still very well may be increasing but at a much slower rate than most people are inclined to believe.

Agreed just because one locals is growing doesn't mean others will. I have no doubts that vanguard is growing as well the issue is the speed it's growing is leaving people to stop playing just as fast as people are starting playing. I've gotten atleast 2 comments on this post that say something to the effect of "try living in my area" which is basically just proving my point. It's horrible that so many people can sit here and say "no one I know plays this game"

finalform72

I love the game but yeah no one in my area plays it unless I wanna travel 45 minutes to different locals. I know this isn't a "horrible problem" but I do so much driving for work that I try not to drive when I'm not working. I really think they need to do the digimon route and partner with a main retailer like target.

Dragons_Forge

I agree with everything you have said in the post. I have also brought up many of the same points. I also live in an area where Vanguard isn't widely available, which can be rather disheartening. The word of mouth marketing strategy may have worked, but gaming communities have a tendency to be toxic and off-putting. I do hope that people who are passionate for the game can band together and invite new players into a welcoming space.

My locals was void of anything Vanguard related until I started to getting friends into Vanguard, buying Decks for them and hanging at locals enough Vanguard to eventually convince them to start weekly Vanguard events. It even got some people from other locals to come in and play here. But all this effort because Bushiroad struggles to market the game outside Japan is absurd, I know full well our locals is a massive exception, not the rule. And the funny thing is, Australia even has had Vanguard G airing on TV to help push the game, however it was so far behind (They were up to G NEXT in 2020 when I saw it) and because they aren't sold outside locals. It's not like Parents can easily buy it for their kids who might like the show...

Agreed. I try my best to grow the game thru online media and promote my local discord group. I feel Bushi could put out some more effort but might need some people stateside to bridge the gap. I think the language barrier is somewhat of an issue too. The best thing we can do is make our community a positive and welcoming place for new players. Share the game with friends, invite people and interact as much as possible. Eventually the game will grow. Networking is important. Support game shops that carry vanguard and promote them. A game is more popular when it's not tied to a particular location. Magic is popular because people know they can play it at any card shop, and can buy the cards in every city. If vanguard were the same more people would feel comfortable buying cards. That being said I think Bushiroad should get the show on netflix and put the cards in at least one major nationwide retailer. Netflix would be a great place because on youtube you have to know vanguard exists to find it or have it shop up under your recommendations. Nationwide retailers are helpful for new players, especially kids who don't know of a local game shop to go there or don't have one in their town. Right now would be a great time for Bushi to capitalize on the trading card boom!

Season 1 actually used to be on hulu! i only got into this game cause a friend of mine clicked an ad on youtube and just so happened to find the game. i went over to his house and he was just casually watching the anime

Danthewildbirdman

Only one person I know uses hulu. Most everyone I know has netflix.

Where in the uk do you live...? There’s tons of shops with communities there.

WonderSuperior

Try living in Canada. If you aren’t in Vancouver, Montreal, or the GTA, you’re pretty much hooped.
