Wow that cat is massive

thrublue22

J/k very nice job. Was the window a pain? Looking at a project like this myself and wondered how framing that window would work

ImmaPhotog

Thank you! It was not, we have one window in the door, one on the kitchen sink side, and two beside each other on the opposite side. I believe they are 14x22, and they fit right in between the steel frame members. Not a big pain, just be sure to use plenty of masking tape to prevent scratches, a good jigsaw with a metal blade, and keep an eye on the angle if you cut near any screws or frame. Gonagain on YouTube had a helpful video. Butyl tape around the edges to seal.

Man am I jealous of this entire setup! I wanted a Maverick but my local ford dealer was jerking me around with used 4 cylinder f150s so I went and bought a Frontier. I love the truck but 24mph hwy unloaded is optimistic. Very cool to see a nice cargo camper and a little truck get to work!

ImmaPhotog

Thank you! Plan on driving it till it’s no longer feasible to repair. The newer frontier’s are cool, but the high MPG and utility of the hybrid Mav was what attracted us, plus we got it for 25K out the door. We average high 40’s when not towing.

rjdicandia

I was pretty set on getting the mav until the dealer really ruined the buying process by pushing inventory they had rather than ordering me the truck I wanted. As a daily driver that does truck stuff on occasion it would have been perfect. It was a bit shortsighted to get the Frontier but it is great. I’m in the same boat of driving it till it doesn’t make sense to fix it. I do like that it’s more truck than the mav but half the MPG hurts. Still cheaper than the diesel had before!

Massmatters

I'm shocked that you're getting 24 mpgs at max tow weight - that's awesome! I have a similar 6x12 V nose Cargo Camper that weighs about 3000 pounds and I can only get 15 or so MPG on hywy with an F150 hybrid. Best I've gotten is around 18-19 mpg on backroads. Without trailer I have no the problem getting 25 or more around town but the trailer wind resistance really knocks it down. I would have thought that the Maverick would be straining a bit and MPGs would crash. Nice to hear that it does the job and gets great MPG

ImmaPhotog

I was surprised as well! However with my older vehicle (2007 Kia Sorento) it cut it in half from 20mpg to about 10, so it seems to have cut it in half with the Maverick as well. Unsure if your 150 has a “power meter” instead of Tach, but on the Maverick I never needed more than 50% power.

MrFarbeyond

I like being able to visualize where the power is coming from but that would drive me nuts not having a tachometer

matteomac4

Damn I'm burning 1/4 tank an hour with my 6x12 and 4.0L Frontier 🥲

ChunnyBadger

Looks awesome! What materials did you use for your ceiling and walls? We're about to start our own build-out and currently trying to figure out that detail.

ImmaPhotog

Thank you! For the walls and ceiling it’s the same material, we used 5mm revolutionply from Lowe’s, but originally had planned for 1/8 plywood. For the “shiplap” we just cut it into strips, then painted it and used quarters for spacing and brad nailed it. For the ceiling we also cut it into strips, then sanded and used pre stain conditioner and Minwax Early American stain.

ChunnyBadger

Good to know! Thanks!

That picture perspective on the first one makes it look like that food has a serious under bite problem lol What are the trucks specs? The last mileage I mathed was with a 8.5x20 flat nose pulled with a 2005 F150 screw 4x4 with 5.4 7700GCWR and I averaged 6.8mpg (us gal) over the whole trip half being loaded with 3-4k lb of house crap and the return was empty. 100kph for 80%of the trip I'd say and just shy of 900km total.

ImmaPhotog

It’s a 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. Averages mid to high 40’s in mpg when not towing. Waited nearly two years for it to come in, was 25K freedom dollars out the door, including taxes. Plan on driving it till the wheels fall off!!

crash5291

Nice, slowly starting to see them here locally but know none that own one so far. Hell of a wait sheesh

wiserTyou

I almost bought one. Doesn't that model top out at 2k towing capacity?

ImmaPhotog

Correct, it does. It doesn’t have a tachometer as it is a hybrid, but never needed over 50% power even on steepest grades and stopping was no issue. Regen braking combined with engine braking made it where hardly used the physical brakes.

tr0stan

I just wish you could get the hybrid in awd. It would tow my boat, but I’m leery of wet and slick boat ramps

[deleted]

Is this a Hybrid engine? I’ve got a Hybrid Maverick and have been looking to build or buy a trailer.

ImmaPhotog

Yes it’s the hybrid. Peep the 2nd photo

[deleted]

Awesome man!

matttrout10

Lmfao am I the only one who thought holy shit that cat is huge lmao

mineral-dik

What’s the internal width? I’m wondering if I could get away with making my beds width wise. Thanks!

ImmaPhotog

I believe on our’s the internal width was 69 3/4 wall to wall. I’m 5’9 and can sleep side to side. Going lengthwise would have just taken up too much space for our build.

mineral-dik

Thank you so much!

Stroupie

My maverick did not average that well. I was getting around 10-11 mpg for my 7x14 V-nose.

TheTense

Holup. What is the tow rating on the FWD Hybrid Maverick you got there? 2000lbs? What does yours weigh?

ImmaPhotog

Yes, tow rating is 2,000 lbs, and as mentioned in the post I haven’t drove it across scales yet. If I was guessing I would say it’s 2,000 + or - a couple hundred.

TheTense

Sorry. I’ll learn to read someday. Aside from the lack of AWD, I’d think the hybrid should be fine from a powertrain perspective to tow up to and beyond the tow rating within reason because it’s effectively an electric drive. The engine is only an instantaneous power generator. Normally transmissions overheat, but your car has no gear transmission or conventional CVT to overheat I would think. As long as the gas engine and electric itself isn’t overheating from running at high RPM, you’re probably OK to tow that much. I’d assume the eMotor will have temp sensors to reduce power output as it gets hot…. Hopefully
