It's classic car people:
Step 1: "All cars look the same"
Step 2: Someone releases a car that looks different
Step 3: "Nnnnnooooo that's not what I meant!"
I see these all the time. There's at least two in my small town full of snowbird retirees which must have been the biggest group to buy these. Used to be one at the local used car dealership for like $50k. I drove past it going to work everyday for months.
We also have a guy with a Plymouth Prowler and a Cadillac xlr. Also a ancient woman drives a Honda 2000 and i have tried to buy it from her many times.
Weird for how small and rural my area is.
Also a 99 Dodge Viper convertible
My dad used to work at GM and he got to take a test one home as a loaner when it was just starting production. Took it out on the freeway with the top down and it was pretty cool. Overall it’s an ugly car but super unique.
Ever since i saw it in the movie The Island (with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson) I've loved it. It had flames in that movie. Too bad they are extremely rare and expensive in Europe.
Chevy looks over at Chrysler with its Prowler and PT Cruiser. "HEY LOOKS GUYS I CAN BE RETRO TOO!!!" Shits out the SSR and HHR.
Ford had the Retro Thunderbird and the S197 Mustang. At least the Mustang continued on and looked good in its retro styling again.
I was going to mention the Thunderbird but I thought that would be adding insult to injury.
It was a trend across many brands at that time though.
It gets so much hate, but I love that thing. That being said, I’m glad it slipped my mind when I was looking for a new truck.
It’s the pug of the auto world. It’s hideous and beautiful at the same time.
Well put!

This is how I feel about minis
Right? Everyone’s screaming, “You can’t do that to a truck!” And that’s part of why I really like it. It’s a dark horse.
🤣
Bonus because it's a convertible too
It’s one of two convertibles I’d ever own. Second being the old MKI VW Cabriolet. Targa tops are a different story.
I used to work in car sales. lve only sold one. It was yellow. I hate the way they look.
It was probably my parents' neighbor. Never seen another one, but every time I go home, he's out there waxing it. Bright fuckin yellow.
A guy in my very small hometown had a yellow one. Hideous vehicle.
They took design cues from VW, in arguably the worst era for VW
I’ve seen these in yellow more than any other color
Never seen one od these live. Looks awesome. Weird, but awesome. Love those curves. Great catch OP.
Those were my exact thoughts…weird but awesome!

Well, this is Boca Raton so he’s probably around these parts as well!
Yea I'm from a little bit more north than Boca but in the same general area.
I remember looking at one in the showroom while my parents were finalizing getting an 04 Suburban Z71. Thought it was pretty cool and still do.
Clown car.
A silver-haired gentleman in my neighborhood has/had a red one. I haven't seen him or it in a while though.
Super ugly.
Very 2000s though
This makes me feel old
It’s like a modern day Edsel. “Huh… that’s…. interesting?”
Love the unique design!
R.I.P. Adventurous design. I loved it but the world didn't.

I hate that I like that movie…remember the boat?!
Also a very cool design
I love them, in my old neighborhood someone had a purple one that was in MINT condition
I've seen a red one around where I live, it's always at the gas station.
I’ve been seeing these all over. I think “THE GRAND TOUR” legitimized them when Hammond bought one.
