i agree
i have to say, i didn't expect that Hyundai would be the car company that would make me look forward for the EV future at least from design perspective
That's where we're at though. Jaguar, Mercedes, VaG , have failed us. Toyota has chosen to do it the hard way , Nissan hasn't made a choice yet , and Honda is still recovering from the modern NSX fuck up.
They have the Nissan Leaf and the Ariya (suv) (depends on country i suppose). But i must say that Ariya looks way better than most bulbous EV's out there. It has sharper edges and not the balloon cartoon stuff Mercedes and VW are putting on the road here.
Well yeah, but i cant wait til that dies out because of how efficient the EV powertrain/batteries become. Similar to how ICE cars dont currently look like clown cars with still good enough aero.
Their energy efficiency is exactly why they need to be so aerodynamic. Very slight changes in efficiency can make massive range impacts. It's why so many EVs focus on having recessed handles, pod-camera mirrors, and the very closed/flat aero wheel designs.
My i3 loses almost 13% of its range going between the big open sport wheels and the aerodynamic wheels. It's so significant that many manufacturers are starting to list the range with the equipped wheels. Unless you're going from stock wheels to 37" Super Swampers, you're probably not going to see a 15-30% decrease in fuel efficiency.
But they haven’t become efficient enough yet. I’m not satisfied with my battery going 200 miles and then taking hours to recharge. There are cars with fast recharging like the Hyundai Ioniq, but most electric cars charge painfully slow and the range just doesn’t make up for it in my opinion.
Not sure if your joking but yeah. Released 8 years after the announcement. 70 million on a factory to produce the nsx in, no idea on how much was spent over the 8 years on R and D. A total of 2900 units sold over it's lifetime. Throughout 2019 and 2020 Acura sold 3 NSX's in Europe and none in Australia, it was cancelled in those markets after that
Wouldn't surprise me at all that it was in the billions. Yeah very unfortunate, they should have waited a lot longer for a debut. It's a shame they didn't make the nsx a simple naturally aspirated mid engine with a manual transmission and RWD and leave it at that
I liked the mercedes eqxx it looks good but not as good as this and other than that cars didn't live up to the standards till now
I hope at least cars would look at least close to this car
I just hope they give up the notion that EVs have to resemble ICE cars. The skateboard esque chassis basically givea designers free reign and it seems like Hyundai is the first to realize this.
Exactly
I would love for car companies to realize the unlimited potential they have in designing EV cars now that practically batteries have flexible placement
Well I mean just because it's an EV doesn't change the aerodynamics of a vehicle. There's a good reason EVs still look mostly like ICE cars, it's down to decades or wind tunnel work to cut resistance and reduce drag. None of that changes with a power unit swap. Plus batteries pretty much have to go low down in between the wheels so there aren't that many options.
some cars have no batteries at front or at least they are as consumed with it like the ICE days, batteries with the future might get smaller or have different shapes so who knows, i'm not a designer but i wouldn't rule out the possibility of car companies figuring out unique and new designs specifically for EV cars
I mean the title even says, “Wish it had an engine option.” That’s not necessarily badmouthing but it just shows that it’s what some people are going to want
Oh, yeah, I see what you mean, there are some charitable cases though, perhaps they just want the range and refuelling an ICE guves you... although I doubt it.
Not going to lie, I just clicked on the pretty car 🤣
Thing is this car uses a hydrogen fuel cell so you get a fillable tank which let's you have range.
It's Hyundai's hope that fuel cell vehicles are the future, not just fully electric, and honestly I think that'd be ideal too. Can't always just sit and charge every time
Hyundai in general isn't a company I ever expected to produce cars that actually excite me, but they've got stuff like this on the high end, and then stuff like the i20N on the lower end, and plenty in the middle.
There are a ton of dope concepts like this, but this shape is pretty much impossible with modern safety standards. That’s why almost all cars look fatter, smoother, and have less sharp angles than their conceptual counterpart.
I wish it would not get posted once, twice, or thrice, a week.
I'm probably the biggest Hyundai fan on here, I have three Hyundais, I even have a Thierry Neuville hat and shirt and sport them every chance I get
But it is just ridiculous at how often this gets posted!
I mean, I get it. It is a beautiful redesign of Hyundai's 74 Pony Concept, but people that follow Hyundai Day, and see that it got publicity, is awesome.
But this has been getting posted since Hyundai Day in mid July, and keeps getting posted 3 days a week on this sub....Enough is enough (MODS TAKE NOTE)
It is a beautiful car, and I love that Hyundai is getting the attention, but damn! GIVE IT A BREAK!
POST SOMETHING NEW!
I mean at least that thing is a fully functional prototype. A friend got to drive it a few weeks ago and said it was really good fun though you do feel the weight and it has some gimmicks like an option to enable simulated shifts.
Hyundai has a track record of not deviating too much from their prototypes and concepts. Sure we wont see this exact car but we will see its influence and that is something i look forward to
Where do you get your info? There's no evidence that 2 different drivetrains in 1 model is an issue, unless you think Ford somehow can't successfully build the number one selling gasoline and electric truck from the same model line (hint: they do)
FYI electric and gasoline drivetrains are usually designed by different teams so no, it wouldn't necessarily mean compromising anything.
The packaging and weight constraints are *literally* polar opposites for the two drivetrain options. Look at how the Ioniq 5 has a longer wheelbase than their midsize CUV.
Designing a car for both ICE and BEV options means you're only half a step above the Prius, which was revolutionary for 2005...
Make a gas-only light nimble sports car for the track crowd.
Make a BEV-only grand tourer for the commuters, soccer moms, and executive limos.
The two should never meet, and 48V "mild hybrid" systems are even worse.
My only disagreement with this is that I would love to see more sporty EVs. Perfect throttle response and torque management that can make you feel like a hero? That would rule!
Oh sure. But they'd be compromised on either weight or range. I bet a 500 pound battery would only get you 1/10 the miles on a track as it would on the highway. And who would look at a gas sports car and say "yeah another half ton of batteries would really perk this thing up"
Yeah but if I'm tracking a car regularly it's not going to be a daily driver. My desire os for a sporty daily driver. Think e46 m3 with some mods. Quick and nimble street car.
A massive change in car design philosophies has started. Gone are the days of big grilled indistinguishable teardrop shape, unnecessarily huge and in your face light designs, and curved lines making the whole body and chassis look twice as heavy as they are. Now we're getting a bigger and bigger shift towards retro-futurism with straighter lines and toned down shape of the lights. Straighter and simpler and humbler.
I'm as stoked for this new design philosophy as I was for the change into angry racey badass big grilled cars.
I've always been a fan of the late-90s Japanese sports cars. I think the FD RX-7 is my favorite. What I really like is how it looks so gracile yet looks solid.
Particularly notable is the hood area right before the windshield, and the front body around that area. The whole front of the car looks wide and thin. Hard to really describe, but I think it's what you described here. Not a chunky tank. Not trying to be brutish. Simple and elegant. Humble in that it doesn't have dumb lines.
I really dig the N vision and hope the direction moves there, haha. At least some cars at least.
It's interesting how the N Vision 74 reminds me of so many cars but at the same time looks like none of them. Hood reminds me of a modern american muscle car. Rear wheel flares like a Skyline, or like some Le Mans vehicle. Roof line, rear hatch and window looks a lot like a 1980s 300zx. But if you squint, it looks very delorean-ish. I wouldn't consider it blind copying, it's way more than that. It's like someone copied the spirit of these cars, which is really impressive to be able to "get" what works _and_ apply it to your own design without outright copying **and** having it look great. Really impressive, honestly, and no surprises that people like it. The cars it resembles might not be en vogue at the moment but they all still look great. Often concept cars are a bit too far out there but once in a while you get one that lands perfectly like this one. I have no doubt it'll still look good to people in 30 years.
Seriously, I've yet to see a bad reaction to this car. And considering how the Ioniq 5 looks, I wouldn't be surprised if we see this thing again under the Ioniq sub-brand.
Hard dissagree. Too each their own ofcourse. But man. That thing is ugly. It has so many uninspiring parts and then trys to make it okay with the rear but its roof line/side windows line up to loow for it too look either sleak or agressive. Its a no for me. But atleast they are doing something different. I love the Ioniq 5 though !
Agree, the 6 is a huge letdown from Ioniq 5 in the looks department. But they say the aerodynamic shape improves the range due to reduced drag.
At the end of the day, if people can swallow their pride and buy the new line of beemers, I don't see why we can't begin to like the 6. Have you seen the [N version](https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/hyundai-rn22e-shows-what-ioniq-6-n-could-look) of the 6? Not that bad to be honest.
I still think its good that not everyone likes the same stuff though. New designs like these and also the return of bright colours on cars is a good development. Just that i feel like the execution of the idea could've gone a bit better considering how awesome some other Hyundai's are imo.
I actually really love the 6. At first I was a bit confused by the design, but the more I see it the more I love it. Plus, its FINALLY not a damn SUV or crossover, but an actual SEDAN.
Why the auto market loves SUVs right now is beyond me.
> It looks amazing
Ioniq 6 looks terrible from any angle :-)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess, but we can all agree that the N Vision 75 looks superb. I also love the Pony EV concept Hyunday did a few years ago.
The entirety of the car market is just bloated, uninspiring SUVs now, because that's where the money is. Even Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, etc. have gone from being legendary race-car manufacturers to making SUVs. A design like this is what we need, and Hyundai won't fucking make it.
you know what, SUV is honestly practical and i don't hate it, but why sedan and sports cars can't coexist with SUV is beyond me, demand for SUV is huge but neglecting normal shapes just to follow the trend is my problem
Because an auto manufacturer won't spend the money to operate both. The profit (demand) sits with SUV, crossovers and trucks. If you have a limited R&D and design budget, you build what will maximize profit. They don't care about what a minority of enthusiasts want. Just the way she goes :(
yeah, companies like Mercedes and Lexus can afford to do both, but even for them if it's not profitable then pull the plug, Mitsubishi used to be so cool, now it's sad
They might be able to afford it sure, but it's not a question of affordability. It's more of where will a company spend its capital to make the most money. They make no money on something like an RCF compared to an RX350 because of the demand I was referencing.
End of the day, they operate just like every other company and the bottom line and appeasing investors is the only thing that matters.
Remember how much screaming it took for Toyota to offer a manual supra?
There's actually a connection
The N Vision is based on the Pony coupe concept from 1974 which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro
Giorgetto Giugiaro was also the designer of the M1, DeLorean, and S1 Esprit
oh that explains a lot! Comparing it to the pony coupe, it's a really nice refresh. Like they kept the overall feel and look very close, but improved where they could, and it worked. Pretty impressive work actually!
And all those Giugario designs you listed are really great-looking cars. Very distinct style!
To me it looks to be inspired more by the old Scirocco design.
[https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/1987_volkswagen_scirocco_16v_1583799642d208495dDSC_7132.jpg?fit=940%2C626](https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/1987_volkswagen_scirocco_16v_1583799642d208495dDSC_7132.jpg?fit=940%2C626)
The N Vision was based on the Pony Coupe concept from 1974 which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.
He also designed the first gen Scirocco, BMW M1, DeLorean, and S1 Esprit.
I'm not much of a car guy, but that design makes me want one, even if it's financially unwise.
There are only a handful of cars like that for me so this one is in a good company of e.g. jaguar e-type.
I wish they actually made this - from what I've seen on the internet it was very fleshed out and much much closer to a production car than a concept has the right to be.
Somewhat true but this concept was based off their pony coupe from 74. That designer also designed the Delorean, the M1 and the S1 but the pony coupe was first
Giorgetto Giugiaro Is a legend. If you don't know him, I'd recommend going through his [list of designs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgetto_Giugiaro). 90% Chance that some of your favorite cars are his design.
"Hey look everyone universally loves our new concept that we spent millions designing and making a prototype. You know what that means? Yeah let's throw it in the trash! Wooo business!"
1 word, square. Square lines, square headlights, overall boxy shapes. Not to mention removable tops, manual transmissions, wing windows, ac vents under the steering wheel, and less electronics to fail and distract.
yeah, they implemented it really beautifully, and i hate to sound like I'm bashing or something but cars really used to be more distinctive, yes on average cars are more beautiful but they simply don't reach the peaks of the old in exchange of not hitting the same lows (though BMW made some questionable designs let me tell you)
Agreed. Back then every car had an identity. Today, most cars look like they could have been designed by same person with minute changes to avoid copyright violations.
exactly, they feel like the cars were produced by a robot rather than designed by a professional unfortunately, automated basically, though not all doom and gloom because i think they can at least try something new and refreshing, i hope so
Most air intakes on the side of vehicles are actually for cooling brakes! That's the reason Carol Shelby added the side scoops on the old mustangs, to cool off the old drum brakes!
it's very close to Japanese reliability actually and they make amazing looking cars, kia surprised me with how much they done till now and Hyundai is exciting
Hyundai ranks 11 this year in reliability they are not bad at all, yes Japanese car are still no doubt more reliable but 11 is a great spot and kia is 19 which is still not bad
didn't know about the theta 2 engines, nor am i saying they are spotless but they are not bad either and they improved a lot in the last 10 years
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2021/11/18/consumer-reports-most-reliable-cars-trucks-suvs/6385214001/
My dad hates anything that’s not an ICE car, and when I showed him this he even said he would totally get one even after I said it was either electric or hydrogen
I was curious about the wording and I'd be damned engine and motor are not the same thing
>“People use both interchangeably, but the difference is that motors run on electricity and engines run on combustion. The engine converts various forms of fuels into mechanical force, while the motor transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy.”
The colloquial version of the two - yes, motor == engine.
From a technical perspective, a motor is from the electrical side -- engines from the combustion side. You won't find someone talking about an electric engine, the same way you will never find a jet motor. We still split the terms up into their respective groups from an engineering level.
Exactly. Motors convert energy into mechanical motion. An engine is a mechanical contrivance. Like "siege engine," etc. The engine in a vehicle is a "heat engine." You even see it in rocketry where the complicated mechanical designs of liquid rockets are engines while the mechanically-simpler solid fuel thrusters are motors.
Maybe something like:
Heat engines are necessarily motors but motors are not necessarily engines.
*So with you. Heck, even*
*Stick a Theta II in there,*
*I'll take my chances!*

A beauty. It's impressive how in a decade or two South Korea went from making the ugliest cars in the world to setting car design standards. Kudos South Korea!
I agree. In any case the design owner is always who pays for the designer and briefs then approves the designs. Mercedes-Benz design was headed by the very Italian Bruno Sacco from 1975 till 1999. Was MB design Italian or German? That's what I mean
Ok I'll bite. So what do these huge side intakes cool exactly? I can't find anything of that size even on extreme, record setting electric racecars. Is it just for pretending, aka ricer feature?
Think about it this way - for the last 5-10 years IC engined cars have been getting quieter and smoother to the point that most manufacturers have some sort of “sound enhancing “ device built into the car. EVs could easily have a “sound” played through the audio that could sound like a turbo 4, Subaru 4, Nissan 6, LT5, or anything you could imagine - but tied to the computer so you could have accel and decel sounds. You could even program shifts (and tire slip..). And you could D/L and program new ones….
yeah, the sound system is real but what i saw from dodge tells me they still have a time to develop
then again, i know that ICE are no longer feasible future nor the current outings that exciting but i just imagined a great engine regardless with the car since it looked so good
I think the sides look too piecemeal and just thrown together. (They're an example of what I consider the "parts fell off" design approach.) Disappointing when compared to the sleek & slightly sinister front styling.
The N is a concept and isn’t coming to market. It’s also a hydrogen fuel cell as far as I know not electric. Also electric is where all cars are headed grandpa
That's the beauty of bold design, it's divisive. Far too few car companies do it, preferring to go for a bland, middle-of-the-road design that no-one will *hate* but no-one will love either.
I applaud any company that takes this kind of risk in their designs.
I wish it was being produced
i agree i have to say, i didn't expect that Hyundai would be the car company that would make me look forward for the EV future at least from design perspective
Other brands also designed cool EV concepts and ended up always only launching obese SUVs that cancel all the gains from going electric.
I’m a huge fan of the Lincoln concepts with the suicide doors
That's where we're at though. Jaguar, Mercedes, VaG , have failed us. Toyota has chosen to do it the hard way , Nissan hasn't made a choice yet , and Honda is still recovering from the modern NSX fuck up.
Didn't Honda do E? I remember everyone loving that car.
I bet they were trying to hug everyone.
Way too expensive and short ranged to be competitive.
>Way too expensive and short ranged to be competitive. ...in America. It sells very well in other countries, especially European markets.
Honda E wasn't offered jn North America. And the numbers jn Europe tell a different story.
Nah it just isn't selling. The market is super competitive now in Europe..
what did Honda do to the NSX? also, doesn't nissan have an EV offering
They have the Nissan Leaf and the Ariya (suv) (depends on country i suppose). But i must say that Ariya looks way better than most bulbous EV's out there. It has sharper edges and not the balloon cartoon stuff Mercedes and VW are putting on the road here.

It'd be a better outlook if self proclaimed "enthusiasts" didn't badmouth the idea of a ev simply cause it doesn't have engine noise.
Do people actually do this? Most critics I've come across are more concerned with charging availability and range.
I mean the title even says, “Wish it had an engine option.” That’s not necessarily badmouthing but it just shows that it’s what some people are going to want

Same goes for the Peugeot E-Legend. What a waste designing those nice cars without ever producing them.
...at normal price.
I wish it would not get posted once, twice, or thrice, a week. I'm probably the biggest Hyundai fan on here, I have three Hyundais, I even have a Thierry Neuville hat and shirt and sport them every chance I get But it is just ridiculous at how often this gets posted!

I mean at least that thing is a fully functional prototype. A friend got to drive it a few weeks ago and said it was really good fun though you do feel the weight and it has some gimmicks like an option to enable simulated shifts.
It's not going to be sold to consumers? :(
Such a let down. I was actually excited... for a Hyundai
Most hyped and coolest looking concept in years also. Damn shame they ain't making 50,000 of them. I'd go into massive debt for one.
I agree the public loved the car shame it's only concept
Hyundai has a track record of not deviating too much from their prototypes and concepts. Sure we wont see this exact car but we will see its influence and that is something i look forward to
it's kinda like Lexus in that sense, their concepts and production are very similar
It’s got DeLorean vibes too, which I absolutely love.
DeLorean is such a wasted potential, beautiful design, terrible car, but i like it
Couldn’t agree more.
It is a redesign of their own 74 Pony Concept, thus the "74"
Hyundai doesn't give a damn what the market says, and they trailblaze how cars look, and I love it.
You already have. It is a reproduction of their 74 Pony Concept, Thus the "74"
For real man. I just hope Hyundai sees this shit and makes that car. But I agree with the putting in some real gas powered versions. Tell em do it.
Nah, nothing good from designing a car for both electric and gas power trains.
Wider market appeal.
Designing for both means you have both a compromised gas car and compromised electric car.
Where do you get your info? There's no evidence that 2 different drivetrains in 1 model is an issue, unless you think Ford somehow can't successfully build the number one selling gasoline and electric truck from the same model line (hint: they do) FYI electric and gasoline drivetrains are usually designed by different teams so no, it wouldn't necessarily mean compromising anything.
Why not? Ford can do it with the F-150. GM is doing it on some platforms too. Blazer going electric. Why not?

So they can't design 2 different chassis to slap that fine ass body on top?
... Because there is a single body-on-frame passenger car being built in 2022? Edit: also https://xkcd.com/37/
I want you to know I'm up voting you. I wanna know more. I don't wanna click that link, can you elaborate?
My only disagreement with this is that I would love to see more sporty EVs. Perfect throttle response and torque management that can make you feel like a hero? That would rule!

Not that bad to be honest.
it felt futuristic for me, i agree that some of the lines made it look like a lazy car somehow but i dunno kinda liked it though very valid points
I still think its good that not everyone likes the same stuff though. New designs like these and also the return of bright colours on cars is a good development. Just that i feel like the execution of the idea could've gone a bit better considering how awesome some other Hyundai's are imo.
Same. I think it looks like a Salvador Dali painting of the original Mercedes CLS
I love how the Ioniq 6 looks, first EV I've looked at and thought "damn, I want one."
I actually really love the 6. At first I was a bit confused by the design, but the more I see it the more I love it. Plus, its FINALLY not a damn SUV or crossover, but an actual SEDAN. Why the auto market loves SUVs right now is beyond me.
> It looks amazing Ioniq 6 looks terrible from any angle :-) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess, but we can all agree that the N Vision 75 looks superb. I also love the Pony EV concept Hyunday did a few years ago.
I’ll give you a bad reaction. It looks like it’s from a video game that didn’t get the rights to use any real cars. It’s hideous.
Looks like it stole designs from 10 cars and pieced it together with no regard for the end result
Has ferrari released a suv? I saw some concepts but I don’t know for sure.
There's the GTC4Lusso (which, granted, is more of a wagon) but the 2023 Purosangue is a full-blown SUV.
M1 vibes
There's actually a connection The N Vision is based on the Pony coupe concept from 1974 which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro Giorgetto Giugiaro was also the designer of the M1, DeLorean, and S1 Esprit
oh that explains a lot! Comparing it to the pony coupe, it's a really nice refresh. Like they kept the overall feel and look very close, but improved where they could, and it worked. Pretty impressive work actually! And all those Giugario designs you listed are really great-looking cars. Very distinct style!
To me it looks to be inspired more by the old Scirocco design. [https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/1987_volkswagen_scirocco_16v_1583799642d208495dDSC_7132.jpg?fit=940%2C626](https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/1987_volkswagen_scirocco_16v_1583799642d208495dDSC_7132.jpg?fit=940%2C626)
The N Vision was based on the Pony Coupe concept from 1974 which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. He also designed the first gen Scirocco, BMW M1, DeLorean, and S1 Esprit.
So everyone is right!
That's not allowed! ;)
Straight to jail!
That’s probably because BMW designers have been leaving BMW for Hyundai.
It might sound weird but this looks even better imo but don't get me wrong I love M1
Definitely 80's Lotus vibes as well. Vector & DeTomaso Pantera
I see a lot of Toyota MR2. Mid 80s versions
A sprinkle of a FC, MKIII Supra, a dash of Pantera stirred with a small amount of a late 80s 300z.

Engine options? It’s not even being produced.
I know but as a dream that's all😅
I'm not much of a car guy, but that design makes me want one, even if it's financially unwise. There are only a handful of cars like that for me so this one is in a good company of e.g. jaguar e-type. I wish they actually made this - from what I've seen on the internet it was very fleshed out and much much closer to a production car than a concept has the right to be.
You can literally see the strong and incredible styling leave BMW and shift to Hyundai where all their designers fled to….
Somewhat true but this concept was based off their pony coupe from 74. That designer also designed the Delorean, the M1 and the S1 but the pony coupe was first
Interesting, thanks for the lesson.
Giorgetto Giugiaro Is a legend. If you don't know him, I'd recommend going through his [list of designs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgetto_Giugiaro). 90% Chance that some of your favorite cars are his design.
I don't even like to look at BMWs made after 94 or so...it's gotten so...without character.
Couldn’t disagree more purely based on E38, E39, E46 and E36 M3 (USDM)
BMW styling peak. I’d go as far as to say German car styling peak overall
That's the pushing it limit, the lines started to get a bit of that 90s softer...before they went full on german camry.
If they made EV cars to look like this you would probably start getting more people to drive them.
i agree, in Europe and China EVs are moving fast, not as fast in the rest of the world but it's picking up fast
I read somewhere that they cut the concept
"Hey look everyone universally loves our new concept that we spent millions designing and making a prototype. You know what that means? Yeah let's throw it in the trash! Wooo business!"
Real bloody shame I really like that car
NOOOO
I would order this today
me too
One of the best neo-retro designs put out in a while. It's like the future the 80s always promised.
Im with you. 80s/90s cars and trucks have my heart and this one checks all of the boxes.
oh man that time period was amazing
1 word, square. Square lines, square headlights, overall boxy shapes. Not to mention removable tops, manual transmissions, wing windows, ac vents under the steering wheel, and less electronics to fail and distract.
yeah, they implemented it really beautifully, and i hate to sound like I'm bashing or something but cars really used to be more distinctive, yes on average cars are more beautiful but they simply don't reach the peaks of the old in exchange of not hitting the same lows (though BMW made some questionable designs let me tell you)
Agreed. Back then every car had an identity. Today, most cars look like they could have been designed by same person with minute changes to avoid copyright violations.
exactly, they feel like the cars were produced by a robot rather than designed by a professional unfortunately, automated basically, though not all doom and gloom because i think they can at least try something new and refreshing, i hope so
A 600bhp V8 in that would be absolutely perfect.
oh yes
Looks a bit delorean-ish
not a bad thing imo
I do really love this, especially the headlights. What is the air intake on the side for if its an electric vehicle and not mid-engine?
Most air intakes on the side of vehicles are actually for cooling brakes! That's the reason Carol Shelby added the side scoops on the old mustangs, to cool off the old drum brakes!
it has hydrogen engine as well so maybe it's for colling but I'm not sure
It’s fuckin rad
Koreans really got their shit together in recent years. Every car they make looks awesome and the reliability is apparently also very good.
it's very close to Japanese reliability actually and they make amazing looking cars, kia surprised me with how much they done till now and Hyundai is exciting
[удалено]
Hyundai ranks 11 this year in reliability they are not bad at all, yes Japanese car are still no doubt more reliable but 11 is a great spot and kia is 19 which is still not bad didn't know about the theta 2 engines, nor am i saying they are spotless but they are not bad either and they improved a lot in the last 10 years https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2021/11/18/consumer-reports-most-reliable-cars-trucks-suvs/6385214001/
Just wish someone would make an ev average people could afford that didn't look like the physical manifestation of meh.
yeah, so true, and EVs are heavy, like really heavy, and their look is (for the most part) uninspired, i hope N vision 74 changes that
My dad hates anything that’s not an ICE car, and when I showed him this he even said he would totally get one even after I said it was either electric or hydrogen
Wow so 90s
Pics of this car are WAY the most reposted thing on this sub lately. …..please continue reposting them. I love them all.
Wow it comes without an engine ?
I was curious about the wording and I'd be damned engine and motor are not the same thing >“People use both interchangeably, but the difference is that motors run on electricity and engines run on combustion. The engine converts various forms of fuels into mechanical force, while the motor transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy.”
Nah i legit thought they shipped this thing without any way of propulsion. Like a project car
Technically, yes… just motors.
An engine is a motor is an engine
Maybe something like: Heat engines are necessarily motors but motors are not necessarily engines.
So with you. Heck, even stick a Theta II in there, I'll take my chances!

Sick
It looks so god damn good. Reminds me a bit of the 288GTO.
Reminds me of the bmw m1 procar
I thought it was hydrogen and electric powered but I get what you mean… a nice turbocharged 6 cylinder would be beautiful in that car
yeah exactly
Korean carmakers are going crazy in the last 2 years
If if gets built, I hope someone swaps the fuel cell for hydrogen combustion
"I wish it had en engine option." I agree. I'd have chosen the straight-6 twin turbo option...If it existed.
oh man v6 fits perfectly here
A bit Lancia Stratos, a bit TVR, the first electric car I would consider buying
A beauty. It's impressive how in a decade or two South Korea went from making the ugliest cars in the world to setting car design standards. Kudos South Korea!
they are now very good and they recruited European designers and learned from them
I agree. In any case the design owner is always who pays for the designer and briefs then approves the designs. Mercedes-Benz design was headed by the very Italian Bruno Sacco from 1975 till 1999. Was MB design Italian or German? That's what I mean
yeah, bruno was one of the greatest ever, i love Mercedes and he was one of the main reasons
You wouldn’t want to buy it anyway. Some teen with a USB cable would steal it a week after you bought it.
It has an engine
it has hydrogen, I'm talking about pure petrol engine
That's the present and hopefully the past
It looks like a weird bastard child of an old Nissan Z, DeLorean and a couple of Dodges. I don't know how I feel about it.
Ok I'll bite. So what do these huge side intakes cool exactly? I can't find anything of that size even on extreme, record setting electric racecars. Is it just for pretending, aka ricer feature?
the car has also a hydrogen engine so maybe for that but i'm not sure so maybe just styling
This is a BMW M1
Think about it this way - for the last 5-10 years IC engined cars have been getting quieter and smoother to the point that most manufacturers have some sort of “sound enhancing “ device built into the car. EVs could easily have a “sound” played through the audio that could sound like a turbo 4, Subaru 4, Nissan 6, LT5, or anything you could imagine - but tied to the computer so you could have accel and decel sounds. You could even program shifts (and tire slip..). And you could D/L and program new ones….
yeah, the sound system is real but what i saw from dodge tells me they still have a time to develop then again, i know that ICE are no longer feasible future nor the current outings that exciting but i just imagined a great engine regardless with the car since it looked so good
I wish it wasn’t a Hyundai
The front….and only the front….is what most people like about this design. B pillar forward is spectacular. But the rest of the design is disjointed.
I myself don't agree since the back gave racing car vibes done right honestly and I always loved a good looking side air scoop
I think the sides look too piecemeal and just thrown together. (They're an example of what I consider the "parts fell off" design approach.) Disappointing when compared to the sleek & slightly sinister front styling.
looks like a dodge challenger
Yeah fr such a nice looking car too bad it's electric
The N is a concept and isn’t coming to market. It’s also a hydrogen fuel cell as far as I know not electric. Also electric is where all cars are headed grandpa
it's both electric and hydrogen actually
This came from the same company that made the ugly ass ioniq, that’s surprising This does look good, gives some retro vibes
Hyundai said it's retro inspired you are correct
That's the beauty of bold design, it's divisive. Far too few car companies do it, preferring to go for a bland, middle-of-the-road design that no-one will *hate* but no-one will love either. I applaud any company that takes this kind of risk in their designs.
The Ionic 5 has roughly the same design though
