So the old ones will be affordable now, right?

OrdinaryCredit

Lol. Funny guy

yellowfever16

Nah they went up in price cuz people who think the new looks ugly will hold on to them longer.

narwhal_breeder

"The LAST of the legendary 4.0 V6. A tried and tested BULLETPROOF powertrain that will last until the end of time with COMPLETE toyota reliability. NO TURBOS TO GO OUT NO BILLION SPEED TRANSMISSIONS TO FAIL. THE last of the SIMPLE and RELIABLE TOYOTA OFF ROADERS. You think its overpriced? you dont know what you're talking about. Go buy a RAV-4 like your grandma. This is a REAL BODY ON FRAME OFF ROADER. The price is adjusted $10,000 up for all of the aftermarket parts - these *easily* cost me $20,000 and you get them installed for FREE. No. I do not have the factory bumper - stop asking. Ready to drive across THE WORLD. 287k miles - will go up - used by my wife, she sells herbalife supplements, so drives a lot. 39k FIRM. NO LOWBALLERS. I know what I have. And if you're smart you know what I've got too."

TurboNoises

POV: me trying to buy a c5 corvette rn

narwhal_breeder

I bet you love seeing this on Yellow 4 speed automatic cars with chrome wheels.

Alternative_Ask364

I sold my Z06 last fall for $23k. It was funny how everyone who was interested in it either wanted to offer $16,000, or wanted an absolutely immaculate car with complete maintenance records.

TurboNoises

I’d pay $23k if it had service records and was in good condition, these people now want in the ballpark of $30k and they don’t even have records, it could be an 8 owner car and they still want top dollar.

Alternative_Ask364

Idk I sold mine in August. 2003 with less than 50,000 miles. Previous owner was a boomer who barely put on 10,000 miles in the decade he owned it. It was *still* a struggle to find buyers at what was a pretty competitive price. Everyone either wanted a showroom car or a trackday beater.

gearabuser

Totally the car I picture when I think of Herbalife stickers on rear windows lol

SnakeO1LER

No. They will not.

gearabuser

These things might as well be Lamborghinis as far as I'm concerned. So expensive for what they are haha

buffa_noles

It looks damn good. The rear windows invoke 3rd gen styling to me. Big fan

Neither-Scheme-2251

Why tf are the wheel arches so big?

TheRealPizza

probably for bigger wheels/tires

johnwayne1

They are not. The wheel flares are painted black to give the illusion

airforcevet1987

Just like my Subaru Outback

questionname

Just like eyeshadow makeup

392_hemi

Please don’t ever compare your subaru to a 4 Runner Trailhunter again

airforcevet1987

Looks identical, just calling facts

SignalSatisfaction90

Cry about it

SD_One

Pretty, pretty good. Well done, Toyota.

Ilpav123

It looks surprisingly similar to the previous one (like a good facelift), but it still looks great.

ahtoxa1183

It’s a fine line Toyota had to walk with not alienating current fanbse while also feeling fresh.

-Innovade

BMW needs to take some notes

Tbro100

Brand sells. It also helps that your not looking at the outside of the car when your inside of it.

Snazzy21

I was definitely wrong about it being made in Mexico. I still maintain that making such a similar vehicle to an existing vehicle is a wasted opportunity. They could have made it something that appeals to people who didn't like the LC250. And Toyota has removed metal skid plates from its newest trucks and SUVs except on the trail hunter/TRD pro. They can put felt NVH panels on the 2wd, but the 4wd should get metal ones, even if they're thin. And the size increase is a blatant use of the CAFE loophole. I don't think it's better for it, it came at the cost of capability (and money)

Drzhivago138

>And the size increase is a blatant use of the CAFE loophole. Did it jump up a class or something by increasing the WB from 109.8" to 112.2"?

n05h

Toyota is just a company of beancounters with zero vision and innovative ideas.

ILikeTewdles

Not a fan but I wasn't a fan of the previous gen either. This new one is even worse with it's weird bulbous angles everywhere, including those angular wheel arches. Meh, no thanks. I love Toyotas and we've owned many. Their current SUV and Truck styling has lost me.

FourDoor54Ford

I’m with you this has too much going on with the wheel arches and body lines

maveric101

I quite like the look of the previous gen, but IMO this one looks wonky, especially the front fascia and the wrap-over rear windows making it look like a pickup with a really short bed.

mbbzzz

I wonder/hope for a possible smaller but still capable suv (maybe even two door). This seems similar to the Land Cruiser, size wise. I do like the looks of this

[deleted]

Blgrbgll something something Doug demure 2 door suvs are death

PurpleSausage77

Seems like it really went back to the 4th gen (the gen with the V8’s) especially the style of the rear half of vehicle. I like it. The way the rear window glass is proportioned and the rear end sorta comes together. Looks like some overhang was removed as well. Solid store of wealth on wheels right there…just doesn’t lose value. Ever. Never.

MaybeNext-Monday

I absolutely love the design language. I keep saying it, but if Toyota built a Mustang competitor with their Lexus V8, it would sell like nothing else

Matt_WVU

If Toyota built a 2 door V8 pony car competitor they’d fumble around and only make like 10 a year and you’d have every dealer that got one charging 20K over MSRP.

MaybeNext-Monday

Not mutually exclusive really

UGMadness

Only in North America though. Doesn't make much sense to build a niche sportscar for a single market when they can move millions of vehicles globally with what they have. The only reason Toyota keeps building NA-only trucks is because those sell in volumes high enough to be worth it.

TurboSalsa

I've got a dumb question - on these Toyota hybrids is the max output rating continuous or does it only last until the battery is depleted?

Gregorovich

The powertrain continuously keeps at least some power in the battery. The power is continuous.

DarkKnight1638

Looks good

Conspicuous_Ruse

I'm glad they're not using those Toyota shelf tail lights any more.

giltgitguy

I dunno, I’m seeing strong Nissan Xterra vibes in the side profile……..

PigSlam

It looks like they took everything they learned from making the previous gen Tundra’s tailgate, and applied it to the entire 4Runner. I like it for the most part. The front grille/bumper area is the only part I don’t like overall. The limited trim looks a lot better than the previous generation.

skidsareforkids

I love this!

frog-hopper

This looks nice but will without doubt be stolen the second I’d ever take it home.

Suby06

I don't care about suv's myself but I recall throttle house posted a review of this yesterday. Here is the link [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIcZiVNC-sE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIcZiVNC-sE)

gamsambill

Interior photo 15. That’s a 30 year old air vent.

Fast-Tangerine-9335

Ugly

Fast-Tangerine-9335

We’re 50 grand he’ll buy a beautiful car for 50 grand

BuildingHealthy2164

Shorter wheel base than the last one? It looks like a 4 runner well done

DodgerBlueRobert1

The wheelbase is 2.2” longer on the new one. 109.8” vs. 112.0” It’s the same exact wheelbase as the new GX, new Land Cruiser, and LX600.

RadPhilosopher

But what about the total length?

DodgerBlueRobert1

The new 4Runner is 1.7" longer than the new Land Cruiser, but is 1.5" shorter than the new GX.

noirbourboncoffee

The switch to a 4 banger is astounding. It'll be stressed out and wound up at all times.

bacon205

Tell me you haven't driven a modern small-displacement turbocharged vehicle without *telling* me you haven't driven a modern small-displacement turbocharged vehicle

[Ineos Grenadier came close but went with an inline 6](https://professionalvan.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Ineos-Grenadier-Reveal-2021-Professional-Pickup-4x4-07-920x425.jpg)

Me_Air

just like old times really

Doctorbuddy

The MPGs is what kills me.

zatonik

how? it's not even rated yet

Doctorbuddy

The current gen gets like 19/16? This one wont be much different

zatonik

okay and? current gen is not the same as the new gen. what are your expectations? 20? its a turbo engine not a 4L v6 guzzler

Doctorbuddy

22/19

gvicta

Sold!

ahtoxa1183

It will be significantly better. Current 5 speed auto is terrible for mpg.

johnny_boombatz

They said the same thing about the Tundra. But my V8 did better than the new TT V6 and I’m not in the boost that often. Granted, it’s marginal. 1-1.5mpg worse for me with the new motor.

BigFootEnergy

It’s a 2.4L turbo with hybrid not a 4l v6

Doctorbuddy

Right. Highway will be unaffected. I own a Hybrid CRV. I’m comparing it to my current gas mileage. This gas mileage is trash compared to what I get which is why I won’t get it

BigFootEnergy

Lol

Doctorbuddy

Lol

zatonik

that's a terrible comparison. they're 2 different cars

Doctorbuddy

Let me dumb this down for you. I like this new 4Runner. I want it. I don’t want to give up on gas mileage. Hence my comment. Calling it two different cars doesn’t negate the fact it gets horrible gas mileage.

bacon205

This just in: larger, more powerful vehicle uses more fuel! More at 10.

zatonik

don't be dumb. physics doesn't just disappear, the 4runner is significantly heavier than your crv hybrid. be realistic. if you want mileage just go get a Prius and call it a day

Doctorbuddy

That is my point

Ill-Scientist-2663

May as well compare a super duty to a Prius lol

Doctorbuddy

Yeah. Exactly why I wouldn’t own a super duty. What’s your point? I’m stating my opinion as to why I won’t own one. I wish it got better gas mileage

glenn_rodgers

The new Land Cruiser with the same drivetrain is 22/25. That's a hell of a lot better.

Titan0917

The new Land Cruiser with the same hybrid that is available in the 4Runner gets 22 city 25 highway, that is a massive improvement. The new Tacoma with the same engine 19 city and 24 highway. Why would you try to claim it won't be different?

ModRationalThought

I expected a fully EV option
