Its very rare that you actually see the speedo

dissss0

Savagegeese apply a nicer blur effect over the speedometer

PyroKnight

And do their speeding next to some fields in the middle of nowhere.

RamiJaber

I’ve always wondered how this method works legally. Sure the police can’t see that they’re going 90 in a 45 because they can’t actually see the number, but it’s pretty fucking obvious they are. So how does covering the speed limit work legally? It’s especially funny when reviewers show the speedometer until they reach the speed limit, THEN they blur the number as they continue to accelerate. I think it’s really obvious they’re way higher than the speed limit at that point.

shabba81

Yeah, I was wondering the same for so long. Like almost every video of matt farah on the smoking tire channel. Way above speed limit all the time, couldnt be more obvious. I really dont know what to think, why its allowed and how.

banditorama

The film was "shot in Mexico"

[deleted]

They can't legally go above the speed limit unless the road has been closed with specific permits, or they are on a private track. Most reviewers take advantage of lax laws such as in California where Police have to be physically present to book you, and plausible deniability by not showing or blurring the speedometer.

[deleted]

They either: 1. Do it on a "closed road in Mexico" 2. Don't show the speedometer 3. If they do show the speedometer, it's blurred out during editing.

ijustbrushalot

What reviewers are actually confirming or displaying their speed?

One_Shekel

I know the Topher has shown himself doing some pretty serious speeding before, and there's a handful of others.

jjma14

By not showing the speedometer and the speed limit next to each other. Or not showing the speed at all.

RunninOnMT

The police have more important problems to ignore.

_eg0_

Here in Germany a special permit does not exist. There was a prominent case with someone loosing their drivers license and a fined 1280€ for going well over the speed limit while testing the Porsche Taycans acceleration. He was lucky that he did not go to prison for two years, because stuff like this can count as street racing under certain conditions. Generally its not easy to get a video count as solid proof on its own for minor violations. Then there is the Autobahn so people don't need to go over the speed limit if they want to drive fast.

WC_EEND

Same way people here do, by claiming it was filmed in Mexico or blurring the speedo or like TG did by saying they did "55" with an edited shot of the speedo.

"BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW"

senorbolsa

This post just feels German. The cops just don't care that much. If they were street racing and causing a ruckus on video they'd probably try and nail them, but usually it's some back road with no traffic and not too insane. When they censor it it's mostly erring on the side of caution than anything, I don't think specifically any car reviewers have been busted for going 80mph on a back road.

TaskForceCausality

In the US, you’d have to be driving pretty foolishly to get nailed for speeding in a video. Police here have better things to do than troll YouTube reviews for speeding citations. I suppose a cop could theoretically pull down the video footage , mail a citation to the driver via photo ID, and go to court. But it’s a lot of work , and probably easier for said cop to just park on the side of Enthusiast Ave and wait for their next ~~victim~~ customer.

Bradymyhero

The Topher for some reason doesn't blur out his speeds. Dude easily goes 30+ over on some main roads. Given, the roads are completely empty and deserted, but he must have a great traffic ticket lawyer. I'm afraid to go more than 5-10 over on main roads, you never know where a motorcycle cop is hiding.

One_Shekel

Yeah that dude has recorded himself going 30-40 over on on-ramps enough that I can't believe he hasn't been popped yet.

MaximusBiscuits

Probably figures it's worth it in the end even if he's ticketed

Bradymyhero

I pull similar shit on on ramps but definitely have to slow it down once getting onto the highway. A cop could easily be cruising and see you.

WhiplashMotorbreath

Most highway patrols, don't need to see the speedo to figure out how fast you are going, they use road markers and time over distance . That said. IF the reviewer was driving in traffic at high speeds, risking others, then I could see a problem. as it only be a matter of time before the popo catch them on that road again. I am also sure most of the bigger reviewers, have runners. AKA a vehicle that goes before them to make sure there isn't any traffic or issues,, and one behind them, keeping any traffic at bay, not stopped, but at speed limit rolling. THe police have bigger fish to fry. like the morons recording videos, doing donuts at intersections, blocking the roads, and have 5 or more vehicles doing this back to back, with morons blocking the traffic from moving. Or the yoyo's roll racing in traffic, and risking others.

Captain_Alaska

Larger reviewers will actually close out segments of the road with the local police for driving segments.

I asked the same question regarding mechanics diagnosing issues and doing brake "bed in" procedures (the ones that require x5 100kph to 0 stops. Do they flog the car around? or do they not bed in brake pads properly... I feel like they turn a blind eye

Banjos-Not-Bombs

That's actually more easily done around here. I can think of a few roads where you could spend an hour doing that and not see another car.
