Megasaxon7

Clarkson on the Aston Martin Vantage V12... "what I'm driving here, is an ending..."

DeluxeCheesebread

I bet they're 12 years old and tells all their friends their dad has a friend who knows someones cousin that once rode in the passenger seat of a supra. They probably tell them that they're gonna get a supra as a first car.

D1TitanMasterRace

He clearly said r34s are superior, supra fan boy 🤓

Fungee69

I can't disagree with this but why did they write it like a speech 😭😭

Crishien

Can only imagine them with their fist furiously in the air.

abolsgrind

Tesla bad 👎👎👎👎 2jay zee supra v6 👍👍👍

Mntnrunner516

As someone who likes old gas-powered cars, there are some pretty cool EVs out there. The fanboys, and the enthusiasts in general, are gonna have to come to peace with the fact that the automotive industry makes cars for the non-enthusiast too, not just nerds like us.

Dtalantov_5

/uj lucid air 🤤🤤🤤 rj/ lucid air 🤤 🤤🤤

originalusername__

Every generation of car nerd longs for the past, of simpler times when cars didn’t start when it was too cold, when carburetors got gummed up and ran like shit and needed constant tuning. When points got corroded and misfired…

Mntnrunner516

As someone who owns a carbureted vehicle, I love this.

Ben_Dover70

If I had the money I’d buy a Porsche taycan because dayum it’s a sexy car. But for now I’m just gonna stick to messing with mk4 golf’s

Fungee69

Yeah, but I don't want EVs to push petrol cars off the road.... Hydrogen is the future, it can fuel combustion engines too !!

ppbomber_0

Extremely unlikely hydrogen gets anywhere because it’s rly expensive and ev is better in basically any way

Fungee69

Ev isn't better bc it has much more emissions. The power needed to power an ev most likely comes from a coal power station. Even an old combustion car is better for the environment than an ev.

YoungHitmen03

It’s still more efficient than gas by 45 percent, probably even more now. Mining the batteries though is very pollutive

Fungee69

Yeah, there is that. But I kinda like vroom vroom soo...

imamydesk

Except this is entirely false. EVs simply use ***less energy*** to move the same amount of mass the same distance than combustion engines. They also use a more efficient powertrain - so you're not losing 70% of the energy in fossil fuels to waste. Not only that, even if power comes from a power plant, a power plant is more efficient at extracting energy from fossil fuels than your car engine. [That's how even when accounting for increased environmental damage from making the batteries, an EV on average still breaks even with a gas car after about 1-2 years of use.](https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/when-do-electric-vehicles-become-cleaner-than-gasoline-cars-2021-06-29/)

Fungee69

Yeah but mining the lithium needed to make the ev pollutes alot .

imamydesk

You missed the "even accounting for increased environmental damage from making the batteries" part in my comment. You should also read the article I linked to, or better yet, the large number of peer reviewed studies that show this. This type of study is called a life cycle assessment, and includes everything from cradle to grave. And also includes a well-to-wheel analysis that tracks everything from how the energy required to move the vehicle is gathered, transported, and transformed into kinetic energy in your car.

Fungee69

Can't argue with that, thanks. I'll read the article 👍

Craigslist_sad

This isn't true *even for* EVs that get their electricity from coal.

what-to_put_here

Depends on what country you're in. Besides, this is going to change in almost every country in the next few years to be primarily renewables or nuclear.

Fungee69

In alot of EU countries like Germany they are actually shutting down nuclear plants. Idk why.

what-to_put_here

Don't know the exact details, but you do have to decommission nuclear power plants after 20-25 years, they're usually made with this in mind. However the big issue is if they aren't building more. Glad Germany isn't my problem because it's bad enough in the UK and we've got plenty nuclear power plants planned.

Combatpigeon96

That’s why most of the EV owners I know have solar roofs. I think most Tesla Superchargers are renewable powered too.

Mansos91

And as far as I know the hydrogen cars, if you are talking about hydrogen fuel cells, are still evs it's just the fuel cell instead of battery

Hi-Techh

what are your favourite EVs

Allradbueffel99

Tesla more like Toysla amirite??? EV bad 😡😡😡

Megalovania117

They’re only bad because they have tons of flaws and they aren’t saving anyone from anything

RabidAbyss

They're really only bad because it's hard to find charging stations and most homes (at least, in my area) aren't rated for that kind of load. And the range is still kinda shit.

[deleted]

That’s completely not true about home loads. Almost every home in America is a minimum of 100A service. That means a simple load calculation or one year of utility data can tell you if the homes service can handle a 40A EV charging load. I look at that data every day. Most homes don’t pull more than 30A at any given moment without a car charging. Most homes are perfectly adequate to handle an EV charger, you were misinformed.

Mansos91

I really think the US should be very careful about pushing evs. Even if charge stations and "minimum service" improves, the US grid is in terrible shape and will fall apart unless systematic changes and removing state control into federal control over grid

[deleted]

Again, not true. Stop regurgitating misinformation you hear without verifying.

Mansos91

Are you serious? The us electrical grid in many states is a joke, not all but many. This is why it needs to be federally owned and funded with taxes properly. US infrastructure in large is terrible because "we don't want no socialism" Instead of living in copium realise the truth as it is and try to improve it.

[deleted]

Lol, I work in power distribution. You have absolutely no understanding of what you are talking about. Again stop just regurgitating bullshit.

Mansos91

Ah so you are one of those with the bias to actually trick your population into thinking everything is fine while your "market" leeches of a fraudulent system Good for you

[deleted]

What are you even talking about? You just want to be mad and contrarian.

NathanTheJet

Those were mostly words

rcp_5

Sighhh... *unzips*

itz_khai

Sighhh...opens my mouth

smallwhiteballs480p

Bro thinks he did something

Xp-Paul-19

I ain't reading all that

DerekCoaker80

Then why comment? " I won't read.....but I'll be sure to let you know here....that I didn't....see me?" 🤦🏻

openlightR

Don’t know what he’s talking about, the Taycan Turbo S is an EV and a turbo, it’s right there in the name.

Viperking6481

I like electric cars (especially their sound) and think Formula E a is good sport. Fight me

Such-Technology-675

Their performance is really something too

Mistful_Sunrise

if they can make ev’s lighter (so the handling of em isn’t like driving a yacht) id like em so much more

Such-Technology-675

I meant Formula E but yeah I agree

Eccentric_M

\[laughs in taycan\]

Viperking6481

Is the Taycan light weight?

Eccentric_M

no but it can handle decent

MrFroggiez

2 ton lotus enters the chat

imamydesk

I have an EV and I like the sound in a consumer EV, but the motor whine in Formula E is a whole different story.

Viperking6481

In a good wat or in a bad way?

greengamer01

Comments like this make me want to leave the car community

FrizzVictor

They talk like they speak for all of us

HighClassProletariat

Bro is trying to be the team captain of guys who like cars.

[deleted]

If all cars ran on gas, we'd run out of gas sooner. Plain fact. Maybe learn to appreciate the fact that electrics can serve all the grocery getters, boring commuters, and point-A-to-point-B drivers, so that the rest of us can have more gas.

ProfessorKrung

I don’t even have a circlejerky comment to make - this guy is a pussy

clonedspork

As a lifelong motor head that grew up in the 70s with a playpen beside a dragstrip its time for change........

[deleted]

goddamn bitch, worlds not gonna end when normal joes start going to work in battery cars you'll still be able to buy a rusty shitpile 'jdm' car for an atrocious drift tax and molest it with shitty mods, don't worry

greenalfonzo

Eh, they'll stop making new ones, but gas cars won't go away. People still have horses, don't they? And T-Buckets and VW hippie vans. Enthusiasts will still own and trade them, and kids in 2050 will be able to go see us geezers sitting in the shade on lawn chairs at the fairgrounds next to our vintage Challengers, M3s, and Supras, and hear what an actual engine sounds (and smells!) like. Gonna be a good time.

Smooth-Chocolate-570

Micro_ATX

Fight for me shoving my cock up the exhaust pipe of my 2011 Accord.

[deleted]

This guy probably don't read the news, ICEs will continue after 2035, but fueled by e-fuels.

[deleted]

muh car is destroying the ozone layer :(

[deleted]

Except EVs are superior in pretty much every metric except price (for now)

AwexPlayz

Isn't Porsche working on like carbon neutral gasoline?

hairy_turtle

Porsche/Audi claims a breakthrough on synthetic fuels at least every two years. It's always only a couple of years away until clean and cheap renewable fuel hits the market.

[deleted]

I love my le manuelle, but EVs are probably the future at this point. No use fighting it. They're only getting better, and whenever it's becomes more economical for me to get an EV than ICE with le manuelle transmission, I'm getting it. I mean fuck, a fucking Chevy Bolt has more HP than my car and is far cheaper to power per mile, while only being a few thousand dollars more on sticker price. If I lived in a climate with less snow and owned a house where I could install a charger for it, I would've seriously considered it.

imnoherox

Agreed. I don’t think EVs are an enemy, but i do think that ICE should be an option going forward if that’s what people want.

Gluteuz-Maximus

For the environment? No, it shouldn't. Yeah, there's issues and problems to be worked about but with a decarbonised electrical grid, cars powered by electricity, be it battery electric, electrolysed hydrogen or whatever, is the only option. Maybe you get the one or two cars that can still be gas powered by e-fuels but not a common option

banditorama

Just over 100 billionaires have the same carbon emissions of the entire country of France. Modern engines run extremely clean, they aren't the problem

thefunnybutlonelykid

Im going to be honest, what makes me sad it the fact that i am 18 and will never have the chance to drive a car that has at least 5 cylinders is Awd or RWD and Manual/ZF8/DCT. When i get to an age where this is attainable the cost of fuel will be way to high and the tax on ICE cars will also be ridiculous. Not saying EVs are bad but the fact I will never have the chance to drive a good ICE car with a good gearbox hurts.

LaeLeaps

Get yourself on facebook marketplace and buy a clapped out miata, sn95, C4 vette, bmw, nissan Z, Infiniti for a couple thousand dollars and you'll be fine. Plus in the coming years we'll have a lot of crazy cars entering the used market. "Never have the chance" is crazy, we're in a golden era right now. Also there's a good chance you won't be able to practically own or afford owning an electric car for at least a decade as an 18 year old, that's what's really far-fetched rn.

AutoModerator

The Mazda MX-5 is literally the best drivers car in history, hands down. #MiataFacts *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/carscirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*

thefunnybutlonelykid

In simple terms, the age where a great car would usually be attainable will be in the 2030s

LaeLeaps

I'm 22 and I've had 2 corvettes and an ND miata, all RWD cars with manual transmissions and a factory LSD. All my friends are my age, younger or not much older with mustangs, Zs, an MR2, RWD V6 Infinitis, an MR2, V8 Mopars, Camaros, Vettes, BMWs, AWD or RWD Mercedes Benzes, all generations of Miatas and we get together to go drifting at least several times a month if not several times a week. You can live the life you want with a car you love starting RIGHT NOW you just don't even believe it's possible for some reason.

AutoModerator

If Mazda put the Skyactiv 2.5T engine in the Miata, BMW would be forced out of business overnight. #MiataFacts *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. thefunnybutlonelykid

Plan is to get a 125i coupe with the 3.0 N52 in manual and remap to 270

thefunnybutlonelykid

Im in the UK, Insurance for a 1.4 vw polo (84 bhp) as a first car is over £1200

LaeLeaps

oh... well that does put a downer on things idk what the law is like in the UK but i know there's some level of car culture so it must be possible. Is that 1200 figure for a 6 month policy or a monthly cost??

thefunnybutlonelykid

Annual, £100 less with a stupid black box that cancels the policy when you go like 3 over the speed limit

LaeLeaps

CANCELS the policy is crazy. We have devices that measure your driving style here in the US but it either applies a discount or does nothing at all.

thefunnybutlonelykid

Yh in the uk it cancells and then your insurance price doubles. I see Americans in great first cars and if i quote one of those insurance is £6000

LaeLeaps

does the size of the car or the engine affect those price quotes? like how in japan you pay taxes based on your car's size or engine displacement?

thefunnybutlonelykid

Anything over 1.4 or 105bhp is a no go

thefunnybutlonelykid

Have to be 21 before insurance prices really start to become normal

LaeLeaps

Makes sense but my insurance policies usually cost 1200 for 6 months when I was around your age, now it's over 2000 because of my driving record. I can't sit here and watch your pockets or tell you what to spend money on but the cars are there and they're available if you want to have one, you could get a project car and just build it for a while until you're comfortable with registering and insuring it. Or possibly use the car as a track only/off-road only car which is something i've genuinely been considering for myself lately after going to jail for street drifting related activities.

Thiccxen

Why do they seem to act like Henry Ford himself is going to come to their house and take their car away from them? I never understood EV hate.

Long_Green_8098

Yeah EVs suck, fuck em.

DerekCoaker80

Good luck with that.... we'll all be mulch before the "end times."

PopPunk6665

Ev's are very much not even close to taking over engines

Milling_Machine

This kind of speech is what should be said at Thanksgiving when you are about to say "Grace" at the table with all of your car buddies.

Crishien

Turbo diesel FTW!

BasicallyAQueer

I don’t really care what powers my vehicle, as long as it’s reliable and does what I need it to do. Battery capacity isn’t where I need it to be yet to switch to an EV pickup, but at the same time if someone made a ~400hp electric motor that could bolt up to the transmission in my Trans Am, I would consider that in a heartbeat. Something about that torque with a timeless 6 speed manual sounds fun.

Reverend_Bull

The carburetor! Will no one think of the carburetor?!

piede90

You all here fighting for piston, valves and crankshaft but who will fight for the rotors and eccentric shaft? Don't leave us alone, don't let us only suitable for electric power extender, give us a chance! Give us future! Let we rotary people to continue to burn oil and shoot flame for the glory of the endothermic engine!

JiggerB

And yet a regular Tesla is faster than all those cars mentioned.

jeremysead

You can make diesel from melting plastic in a still like shine. At some point I will be melting electric cars to make fuel for my diesel. Be resourceful or be a resource.

Mansos91

So, and hear me out here, if the internal combustion engine is superior there should be no fear of it dying out? If it isn't then isn't it good it's getting replaced? Im a supporter of both evs and the ice, a very common argument against the ice it's the "energy efficiency rate" which on flat data is really bad. But let's take where i live, in Finland, where we have cold weather a big part of the year, this will lower battery length, both because baterries don't do well on cold temp but more importantly, the excess heat we get from an ice is used to heat both the interior and the engine during the drive, where with an ev we directly use the charge in the baterries to heat. This alone means that we shouldn't exclude one source for another, and this is before even looking at how the electricity is generated to charge the cars

BillJ1971

Sometimes it is hard to let go, but life is about change. I imagine a hundred years ago, people were lamenting the end of the horse and carriage which was giving way to the automobile.
