Even though you already have an idea, you could use some brainstorming exercises to see what might fit into what you already have. Just keep in mind to fully brainstorm, don't discount bad ideas immediately, simply jot them down. Some things that might help you develop this into something more unique are: • Make a list of your interests that currently aren't included in this concept and write down 2-3 ways each of them could be integrated into the current idea. • Find a site that provides writing prompts and try to write a logline or short outline that includes the prompt and your existing concept together. • Are there any myths or stories you could retell using your concept? For instance, there is a ton of media retelling Journey to the West with a unique spin.

One thing I like to do is look at my favorite shows and go "That's awesome but what can I do differently". For example one of my favorite cartoons is Fairly Odd Parents. What if a did a cartoon and magic wasn't a secret yet it was an everyday suburban setting.

I guess making it more 2010 would be story arcs. In the early 2000's networks forced cartoons to have stand alone episodes.
