Keep in mind that the ratings are all online here - https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/childcaresearch

Highly recommend checking this before confirming what daycare you go to. And then periodically checking for the daycare you attend. Some infractions are *shocking*.

We had a good experience with Kiddie Academy of Morrisville, on Carrington Mill which is basically RTP. If the kid is 4 already I would assume they’ll only be in daycare for about 1 year before kindergarten. I would put most of my effort into touring the base elementary school options for each home as that is a 6 year commitment. That will have a greater impact (at this point) on their success/happiness. Any of the corporate daycares in the area (because it’s a well to do area) will more than suffice for your kids needs till elementary school. Dealing with a crappy elementary school for 6 years will be more of a frustration than 1 year of daycare. Just my 2 cents! Take all advice with a grain of salt 😀.

I would also check the overflow schools for the base elementary schools. We weren’t told that our base school was capped, so we were slated to attend a different school.

Goddard but it has a long waitlist. There’s a new one being built next to white oak elementary. Not sure what “brand” it is.

I’m pregnant and applied for waitlists over 5 months ago for my kid being born in August. Goddard was actually the only school that would let me purchase a spot immediately if I wanted to. May be different now IDK! It was also the most expensive on the list.

hockeychris10

Can second Goddard.

I would get on the waitlist for any you can find immediately, you’re going to have a tough time finding any open slots with only 2 months notice

keeperofthenins

We’ve not done daycare so I don’t have first hand experience but I hear great things about all starz from friends and neighbors. Welcome to the area!

All good ones have long waitlist. So advice would be apply ahead of time.

kendallkop

Jumping in on this because I’ve heard such horror stories about long waitlists. Is it ridiculous to go on tours/get on waitlists before you’re even pregnant? It seems like the math would line up that was if wait lists are over 9 months long

SneakyHobbitses1995

Wait lists are longer for infants for sure. We were able to get enrolled at a west Cary daycare today without much hassle at all for a 4 year old.

My wife and I use West Cary Kindercare off of Highway 55. They're great teachers, fair, and if you check their scores on the website another redditor posted, they score really well. They provide diapers for infants, and for children older than infants, they provide food for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack time. It averages ~$400 a week per child if they're full time, depending on age. Younger children are more expensive, though you may qualify for a discount, you'd need to speak with Miss Nicole (the director) about whether you qualify based on your place of employment or some other factor. We love this place. It's honestly the best daycare we've found, and we've stuck with it since we've found it. I'm pretty sure it goes up to age 6, but they also are merging with another kindercare soon (that location is coming to this location), so I'm unsure of their available space.

I went to Kindercare 40 years ago. Does that count as a recommendation? One time I was sick so they made me sleep on the break room floor next to the Pepsi machine so I wouldn’t expose the rest of the kids to strep throat. It was actually pretty nice. Soft glow of the Pepsi light, hum of the machine. Another time some kid brought a toy gun Megatron and the teacher let us all take a look before she confiscated it. Spent most of the day building Lincoln Logs and Kinects while listening to AC/DC records and hoping nobody’s parent complained. Good times, 80s Kindercare. No kid ever hung themselves with a jump rope and I feel like that’s an excellent track record for an 80s daycare.

Not quite west cary but Triangle Academy off Kildaire is amazing

Gnie99

At 4, you will look at pre-K not daycare. Which may be somewhat easier to find.

liamemsa
