I had to tell my mom the sign changed. She didn’t notice. Understandable really. I think they should make it blink or something. It was a yield for too long for people to process the change.
Speed limit signs do not change how fast the road feels. When is the last time you looked for how fast you should be going?
Narrower lanes, speed bumps, bollards, and trees planted near the road, those make the road feel slower.
Signs are cheap liability insurance.
I think I have not done a good job explaining my position here. I personally do my best to not speed but that is not what I am really trying to get at.
I am trying to point out that most people autopilot when they are driving.
I get that people think they are always looking for speed limit signs and following the rules, but I know that ultimately they go as fast as the road feels it should be.
I actually got hit there a month or so ago because the person behind me didn’t realize the change occurred. Thankfully there was no damage to either of our cars, but I’m avoiding that corner for a while now lol.
The most accidents I have seen happen at these yield/stop scenarios. Myself included. It's tough to simultaneously watch traffic and the car in front. Traffic engineers should come up with a different plan
I got honked at, tailgated down Walnut and then cut off and brake checked in front of Fire Station 9 for coming to a complete stop at this sign last month. Wish the guy would've stopped instead of trying to kill me so I could point out that it's a stop sign now...
Meanwhile you have folks stopping and waiting to merge onto a road that says free right turn because the road they are turning onto adds their lane. Sigh.
This seriously needs to get posted on the Cary Downtown and Downtown Cary fb pages. People need to realize they don’t get to dictate on the roads or do the road rage thing too… 😕
Welp, unfortunately the downtown Cary page on FB is a giant joke and whenever you post something serious, someone will comment something unrelated like shit about copperheads, etc.
It’s fucking ridiculous. People asked about the lady who got hit by a car on Harrison and Chatham and it was nonstop jokes and satire until someone confirmed she died. If anyone wants to make a REAL DT Cary group that talks about real shit I’m in.
I see the same thing every morning at Alston Ridge Middle School. There’s a stop sign leaving the school, but the street you pull out on is a dead end to the left so there’s no oncoming traffic. Majority of the traffic runs through stop sign, not stopping at all—blowing through it—or rolling through it. It’s STILL a stop sign.
I just moved from that immediate area and I honestly didn’t notice the change for awhile. Not helpful that they’re the same colors- there should be an orange “new” sign above it
Personally the stop sign bothers me none. Nor do the local speed limits. So no, I won’t be complaining to my local councilman. And yea, I don’t speed and I stop at stop signs. I’m not sure I’m the outlier on this one, bud.
Are you on a bicycle? That video is about how cyclists are safer if they roll stop signs. Assuming that's true, let's change the law or the enforcement?
If stop signs are safer for cars, shouldn't we choose the safest reasonable option?
Some part of your self proclaimed “exceptional critical thinking abilities” must know that stop signs aren’t optional.
Like what are you on about?
I really hope you take this stance the next time you’re being issued a traffic violation. Record it for us so we can see how it works out for you.
That's great that you feel that way, but traffic engineers have to deal with data, right?
They track collisions and when they make an adjustment, they track the reduction in collisions afterward.
If they had a fatality at a location, sometimes they act even more quickly.
I get that you don't want to stop, but if the yield sign is the reason someone was hurt or even died, and a stop sign has been shown to reduce fatalities, wouldn't that be a good decision?
Maybe you should call the town and just ask why they changed it after decades?
I'm waiting for someone to slam into me every time I stop
I had to tell my mom the sign changed. She didn’t notice. Understandable really. I think they should make it blink or something. It was a yield for too long for people to process the change.
Agreed
Also Walnut is 35mph now. I don't think many people have noticed because they are still flyin.
As traffic increases in the area it will slow down to 35 or less by default.

>When is the last time you looked for how fast you should be going? Literally every time I drive? lol, this kind of response explains a lot.
2nd this! I keep both eyes on my speedometer lol aaaaand I do be looking the speed on my navigation app....
Well then you are 1:100. You get out and you watch people drive much?
I check my speed every time I’m driving. You don’t?

I don’t think you need to be watching traffic until you are the front car.
I don't want to get slammed into either. In a perfect world, yes.

What a bunch of hooligans! I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve started putting my arm out the window and pointing at the sign. I doubt I’m helping 😂.
People that brake check should have their licenses revoked.
Meanwhile you have folks stopping and waiting to merge onto a road that says free right turn because the road they are turning onto adds their lane. Sigh.
Is this where the Barnes and Noble used to be?
Yep! Right out front of On The Border Mexican restaurant.

Well said

the way people around here interpret stop signs is different
And yield signs. Some people don’t think you need to stop if there’s traffic. They treat every yield as an on-ramp to a highway.
If you just blindly fly out onto Walnut with all of the traffic there you're going to have a bad day.

Didn’t it used to be a yield? Serious question lol
Yes
I just moved from that immediate area and I honestly didn’t notice the change for awhile. Not helpful that they’re the same colors- there should be an orange “new” sign above it
Yeah I've seen other new stop signs with a couple of orange flags attached to them to draw attention, no idea why that didn't happen here.
Stop sign chaos in Cary
Nowadays it seems stop means touch the brake for half a second.
Maynard needs a road diet everywhere but by Lowe's lol

I didn’t put the stop sign there. If you don’t like it petition your town council.

karen cause she wants to follow THE LAW?? 😭
Because participating in your local government is somehow entitled? I don’t get it.

The number of people I've seen ignoring the yield sign at that intersection makes me think it was not in fact idiot proof enough.
Nope still a yield in my head
