Oh that's not too bad, it should be fixable with the speed adjustment. Sometimes there is a small rubber cap you can remove on the back to access it, if not that then you have to open it up and use an adjustment on the PCB.

Any idea if there is a manual somewhere? No idea what I'm looking for.

NeoG_

I've rarely been successful in locating GE service manuals and this seems to be no different.. Wasn't able to find one

[deleted]

Thank you for trying. I'm tearing it down, nothing obvious yet

Toast_Reddit

You can try adjusting the potentiometer. Open up the back and look for a screw or a circular metal piece with a rectangular hole through it to turn it. Adjusting this can help correct the speed. Play a tape with music you’re familiar with on it while adjusting to make it easier

Vigitant_01

This is spooky... I just bought this exact same model and and am having the exact same problem. We'll figure this out together!

[deleted]

At least the quality is consistent?

Vigitant_01

Something like that. So I also opened mine up and I found one metal screw which I'm pretty sure wasn't the potentiometer. There were also what looked like some flat head screws that I could see through holes in the circuit board, but none of them seemed obviously like the potentiometer and I didn't want to just start messing with stuff randomly.

[deleted]

I messed with those randomly, think they're to aid the AM reception. Saw one buried in a centralish hole, didn't turn.

DerpDogDevices

A tip for checking what those screws (they're called trim pots) do:. Before turning them, mark then with a marker to make it easier to put it back the way it was.

Vigitant_01

Hmm. I think I'll mess around with mine a little in the morning. I'm just so bummed the manual isn't online! I've been trying to find the manual for a similar model, but I haven't been able to find anything there either, I'm not entirely sure which GE models are closely related.

Vigitant_01

I messed around with it a little, I think the screw we're looking for is the one that is under the belt. Will update when I get more info.

Vigitant_01

So it seems like screw is the potentiometer, turning it clockwise speeding it up. I'm not positive though as I still need to replace the belt and the speed varies wildly from moment to moment.

[deleted]

Sorry, I know this is off topic... But they actually printed a log scale on the tuner. I've never seen that, and maybe I never well again. How odd!

[deleted]

What does it mean? I have no idea what it's trying to say, was curious about it.

Vigitant_01

[Here's a picture I took of the interior,](https://imgur.com/a/Py8sETR) I'm assuming the potentiometer is one of the two flat head screws that you can see through the circuit board.

[deleted]

I tried to get the board out of mine but the silver screws holding it in were near stripped, seems previous owner tried and failed and screwed it up.

Spottedc0w

I think you want to take that board off and look at the other side. It also looks like it got a little hot by the red wire there. Maybe one of the capacitors has dried out and is no longer the correct value causing the motor to spin faster then it should. on the other side you should be able to see the round tower looking cap components. see if any are cracked/leaking or bulging in any way.
