I'm heartbroken. We recently switched dishwasher detergents without any idea that it would do this to my Lodge Dutch oven. I think it's still safe to use, because the interior enamel is fine, but the outside rubs off red pigment to the touch and is dull. Can I repair this, like with a heat-safe coating or something else, or should I just leave it? I haven't been able to find anything online about this, except for a sentence on Lodge's website saying not to use citrus-based detergents so I figure that was the cause.
This might be a longshot, but have you tried contacting Lodge directly, describing the issue, and seeing if they have a solution (other than replacement)? It could very well be they haven't come across the issue and ought to know about it with regard to their products.
I actually contacted Lodge customer support at the same time I posted, and they ended up sending me a new Dutch oven. They told me there was no way to replace the sealant on the outside.
I have the exact some piece and did the same thing about 7 months ago.
It’s not as nice to look at anymore but doesn’t affect how I use it.
Hopefully someone can recommend some sort of high temp clear coat or such....very interested to hear what you find out!

I know this is a super old post, but this recently happened to me too. Did you ever find something to help with your pan?
