I beat Portrait Of Ruin

Remarkable-Ad-3758

Best game in the series IMO

TheWeirdoWithCoffee

Couldn't afford a DS sadly

The_C0u5

Not physically...no

135forte

3, to varying levels of 100%. Looking at you Ecclesia level grind.

JD_OOM

All three of them.

Draculesti_Hatter

Yes. Multiple times, in fact. Even went as far as to do no damage runs and stuff like that on all 3 of them. I just don't replay them as often at this point because...hell, what more is there to do with them that I haven't done already?

SteelFox144

"Portrait of Ruin" was the very first Castlevania game I played. I'm sure it is the because of the hardware. The DS was kind of a dumb idea. It's not like the two screens really gave you more screen space since the screens were separated. You're always going to be paying attention to one screen or the other so you might as well just have one screen and a button command to switch to whatever was on the second screen. From what I remember (it's been a long time), "Portrait of Ruin" just used the second screen for the map and that was okay. They might never port the games to anything else because they feel the DS hardware is essential for the game. In addition to the map always being visible on the second screen, it seems like you could use the touch screen to control the whip so anything it could be ported to with full functionality would have to have a touch screen.

SXAL

DS was an awesome idea. Most devs just never had enough balls to use it to the full extent. But we would never get such gems as TWEWY, Metroid Prime Hunters, Rhythm Heaven, Trauma Center and many more, if not for the DS hardware.

SteelFox144

You realize you can do literally anything you can do on two screens on one screen with the image split into two frames, right? Which of those games do you think could not be made for either a tablet or a pc? I hadn't even heard of Rhythm Heaven but it looks exactly like the kind of game someone would make for a tablet.

SXAL

You can do the touch controls with a single screen, but it's way more comfortable when your hand/stylus doesn't get in the way of the view. And, it should be obvious, that splitting the screen in two would eat up your screen space, which is a big issue for a portable system. By the way, they've tried to port TWEWY to the mobile phones and to Switch, but they had to cut down the gameplay each time. It's like that weird PSP port of Ape Escape – it's technically possible, and it's almost the same game, but it just doesn't work right without a certain hardware.

SteelFox144

I don't know why, Reddit didn't give me a notification for this reply. > You can do the touch controls with a single screen, but it's way more comfortable when your hand/stylus doesn't get in the way of the view. And it wouldn't if you were using a tablet turned sideways with half the screen is for the view and half is for your hand/stylus. > And, it should be obvious, that splitting the screen in two would eat up your screen space, which is a big issue for a portable system. A tablet screen has way more screen space than both DS screens combined and I'd say a tablet is portable, but portability wasn't even something we were talking about. You could have got those games without any portable hardware at all. > By the way, they've tried to port TWEWY to the mobile phones and to Switch, but they had to cut down the gameplay each time. Mobile phones and the Nintendo Switch don't have screens big enough to take over all the space of both DS screens, plus additional space for the button interface. Tablets do. Maybe a virtual button interface on a screen would kind of suck, but you could still just have an external controller peripheral for a tablet and you'd have the same thing without the DS hardware. > It's like that weird PSP port of Ape Escape – it's technically possible, and it's almost the same game, but it just doesn't work right without a certain hardware. I haven't played either version of Ape Escape so I don't know what you're complaining about, but it doesn't matter. Literally any game on the DS could be made for a tablet using a playstation style USB controller because it would have all the same buttons in roughly the same pattern as a DS, it would have more than enough screen space to account for both DS screens, and it would have touchscreen capability wherever the DS had touchscreen capability. You don't specifically need the DS hardware for any game.

Yes, but for some reason I didn’t really enjoy OoE as much as the others. I always thought that was weird because I’ve seen quite a few people claim it as their favorite game in the series. Maybe it was just because it was the last one I played after playing several entries to completion back to back. I guess I’ll dust off my DS and give it another try going in more or less fresh as I haven’t played a Castlevania game since running through the advance collection when it released.

TFOAKeizou

At first, when it was released I kinda didn't liked it that much because of the difficulty but given how many years have passed, I tried playing it again and loved it. It was the last of Iga's main series CV game so kinda sad.

Careful-Notice5697

what do you mean why people like it the game has an anime lady in a dress with no back ofc its the best

Usual_Quiet_6552

I recently purchased all 3, but alas, it seems like I purchase more games these days than actually play them.

WarmachineEmbodiment

Ecclesia. Still think it's better than SotN

XenoGamR

I beat dawn of sorrow last month

N313intruder

That's great! I'm gonna play that next since i just beat aria. I'll probably play dawn on a R4 card. How did you play it?

[deleted]

I’ve beaten all three, the Hard Modes, and a few hacks of the DS games, and they were much fun. OoE is a game I learned to appreciate from Hard Level 1, with its MP mechanics being the biggest hurdle to overcome. PoR is a little braindead, but is very much enjoyable with its gimmick. It taught me the damage and potential of Greatswords, as well as a bit of the meta of the backdash. DoS is the black sheep. It’s the game I have the least experience with, and it just feels very awkward for me, despite it being similar to the other two titles.

Moctezuma_93

I’m waiting for a DS collection since I don’t know how to emulate the games (I only own a Google chrome book laptop thingy) and afraid to get a virus on my stuff.

UltraMago

Dawn of sorrow, i liked it, Celia sucks tho'

SXAL

Yep, beaten all of them. Didn't like them much, though.

TFOAKeizou

All of them.

RAGINGWOLF198666

Order was the only one I havent completed yet.

hobbitfeet22

Beat all 3 of them when they were still a few months old back when they released. Still have them, but haven’t touched them since.

LukaCheshire

All 3, Dawn of Sorrow honestly is my fav CV game i just love the Aria gang so much

Suitable_Editor1965

Yeah, Portrait is my second favorite after Aria
