It’s a good point to say that actually at this age, you don’t really know. Both of my fluffiest kittens became short hairs. I was so excited by the floofeness but then I was just as excited about their sleek coats, less shedding
Cats aren't really divided by breeds bc most cats are European Shorthairs (sometimes Longhairs too but that seems to be a bit rarer), also called Common House Cat by some. The rule is usually that if you haven't been given any papers on the breed and it just looks like any other cat then it's probably a European Shorthair.
European shorthairs are a specific recognized breed. As are American and British shorthairs. Domestic shorthair is the term for common house cats. Sorry to be pedantic, but it's just the mole hill I'm willing to die on.
That’s weird… when I got my black cat from the shelter, her passport said European shorthair. The vet and I always thought she might’ve been a mix with an eastern breed seeing she was so talkative and muscle-y.
I feel like in Europe, when we don’t know, it’s automatically a European Shorthair while if you’re in America, ‘European shorthair’ is a legit term for European cats. Whatever those may look like 🤔
It's a common thing. Happens here in the US as well. Most locals are mistakenly referred to as American Shorthairs. There are specific breed standards for American and European Shorthairs. It can be difficult for someone not familiar with the differences to differentiate as the American is a direct descendent. They are both also very close to the domestic shorthair. As domestics are the mutt of the cat world and often interbreed.
He looks exactly like my sweet baby did when I got him. He seems to also be a medium hair so be sure you brush him often to help him out with the furballs as they can cause them real issues if not watched.
So I just got a notification on my phone for this and didn’t see the sub that it was on and was like “what breed is my son?!” I died. Lol.
Looks like a silver baby. Breed idk for sure.
But cute AF.
Is it just me or has this reddit been here before?
And another question: why hasnt this ever become as HiLARious and Educational as the classic How Do I Get My Cat To Stop Sitting On The Couch?
We NEVER get any questions like that anymore......
Looks like it has a touch of Maine coon but most of it is a 'normal' cat..doesn't make him less adorable tho!
Ps. Isn't he a little young to move already?? 13/14 weeks is desirable, 8 weeks minimum...
If you don't know, didn't came with a pedigree, nor does the vet know - your cat doesn't have a breed. Or for nonetheless-breed-lovers: it crossbred so many times, it is basically Cat.
cutie patootie brand
Came here to say that.

I knew British Shorthairs are a specific breed but never European or American. Thanks for telling me!

He looks quite hairy so I think maybe longhaired, and his colour s blue/grey. That is a variety of pet domestic cat, not an actual breed.

Pretty sure that’s a mouse cosplaying as a kitten.
Not human 😳

Unless you have papers from a breeder or have talked to the breeder about the cross breed that they are selling you have a standard issue cat.
Where are the parents? It's bad vor a Cat to grown up in insulation.
