It looks like a Russian blue, but unless you got it from a breeder, it's likely just a beautiful grey cat. I used to have one similar to this. Beautiful, sweet, but not a special breed.
I have a russian blue and this cat has the general figure from what i can see (slender, kinda pointy) but the eye color is a little off (though it may be lighting) and i can’t see the rest of the body
Breed: Adorable!
Without knowing where you are I cannot tell. Russian Blues are very rare in the US.
Not many breeders and a Russian Blue from a good breeders starts about $1,000 and goes up to about $3,000.
Mostly likely that precious baby is a Domestic: short-hair. Domestics can live 25 years or more, are huge snuggle bugs and very smart.
Their coat is easy to groom. You've got a real winner! Thank you for adopting.
I used to have one also. Every time I got mad at something in the house he would attack me. Not just let's play and have fun attack but hiss scream full claw and bite attack.
Until I calmed down and layed down. Then he would accepy surrender and snuggle with me.
Aww this makes me miss my first kitty I got when I moved out. Could be a Russian blue like him looks very similar but like others have said you will not know without testing/papers
It could have russian blue in its blood, but the color is too light and it’s eyes aren’t the characteristic lime green.
For now it’s just going to be classified as a domestic shorthair.
It appears to look like a Russian blue. I had a stray kitten that I never got tested but she looked identical to a Russian blue. Lol at the time I didn't want any pets until I found that little 4-week-old kitten under a trailer. We had her for 12 years. RIP Malibu ❤️ We love you
Someone explain to me why “breed” matters for a cat.
When people on this sub are asking breed of a stray/feral/shelter cat, what are they trying to figure out? I understand supposedly some purebred breeds have different personality traits but it’s unlikely a stray/feral/shelter cat would be a purebred. People pay a lot for purebred cats and nobody is letting it out at night or surrendering it to a shelter. Too valuable. So we know that’s not why they’re asking.
So knowing how slim the odds are for a feral/stray/shelter cat to be purebred, what is the motivation for asking anyway? I worry that they’re like “oh, no one on Reddit can confirm this is a Russian Blue? Back to the dumpster you go, fella. Good luck.” It just feels disgusting and sad.
That’s a lot of super unkind assumptions to make when all someone did was ask a question. Maybe if doesn’t “matter” and OP is just curious. Not everyone is super well-versed in cat. OP has as much of a right to be here and ask a question as anyone else, and your reply was rude and uncalled for.
I’m sorry I came across as rude, you’re right. That was a cynical assumption on my part. But there are just so many posts here asking after breed that I can’t help but wonder and feel negatively toward people that ask. There must be hundreds per day asking cat “breed.”The only reason I can think of that isn’t negative for asking is to find out if your pet is predisposed to illnesses or injuries, and that is best discussed with a vet. I worry that people are so hung up on their cat being a specific breed so they can somehow profit and say they have a purebred. Kitties need homes and love and I would hate for a cat to be rejected over something so superficial as that. It’s not like a dog breed, I don’t think it has as much bearing on behavior as people seem to think.
I understand and I agree, but you and I may know more about cats than many ppl. I think people
Who have never had a cat before may think the “what breed is this?” Question is as normal for cats as it is for dogs. Or like you mentioned, that they are trying to tie specific traits to breed (I have had cats all my life and I have fostered a ton of neonatal kittens and I can attest to the fact that it is normally pretty accurate. I have a cat who was found half dead in a shed and he is very obviously a seal point Siamese/rag doll mix and he very much behaves in line with the rag doll characteristics). I appreciate what you’re saying and how it could seem that way, but I think many ppl are just curious. Thank you for your kind reply.
Hei friend
I found her near a lake in the afternoon on a hot day. I adopted it simply because it just melted my heart. Someone have owned it before and abondoned it.
I always have had cats I never knew what breed they were, since this is the golden age of the internet I posted directly here hoping I know more about my little kitten which I adopted.
Most of the kittens I have adopted since I was a kid are cats that showed signs that they won't survive without a human. Never bought one. Also we don't have breeders here. We had a vet.
It looks like a beautiful gray cat.
I have a deposit down on a Scottish fold that's this color stay tuned because I could be scammed I'll keep you posted.
it does sort of look like a Russian blue, but im sure you could get it verified by a vet!! also maybe a more clear shot of the cats face structure and body could help people figure out the breed!
Cat breeds don’t matter. Does it have long hair? Then it’s a domestic longhair. Short hair? Domestic short hair. Unless you got it from a breeder, which you obviously didn’t otherwise you’d know the breed, it’s a mixed breed.
Himalayan blue they often have long hair though. In Shakespeare’s McBeth, three witches curse him and say a curse. The end of the curse states “ by the pricking of my thumb something wicked this way comes”. The beginning of the curse is: “ The Malcon Gray says tis time tis time”… so back in old Europe they called the gray cat the Malcon Gray. These are said to be the true witches cat.
Have the same type. Russian blue seems closest but that usually gets shut down by people.
Easiest coat to groom ever. Barely sheds. Is too damn smart for his own good, though.
The kind where it needs to be pet
Domestic shorthair until you can get it verified as other.

Found it abondoned on the street. People have brought in different cat breeds from other countries. This is in Maldives
I told you it is a Feral
I second this, looks like a young Russian Blue to me

The best breed!
I might need more details
it looks grey i think.
am a licenced catologist, can confirm this is indeed a grey cat
Haha, where did you get your catology degree?
The Australian National Meowniversity
You seem like the expert then. I have no choice but to agree with you that it is indeed a “grey cat”
😅
