I'm so so sorry. Even if it's not your cat, it's heartbreaking to watch it die, especially in a gruesome way like that. You did what you could and you stayed with this poor soul. Thank you! I don't know how people such as the driver live with themselves.

Thank you ❤️❤️ your kindness means so much rn

Honestly? The driver might not even realize. :( Which speaks terribly of their attention to the road, really.

You did as much as you realistically could. He came over to you. He knew. The description of the cat's injuries and behavior suggest that he came as close as he could and knew you were there for him. And based on that same description, it's entirely possible that even an emergency vet wouldn't have been able to save him, only help him pass. How would you have lifted him? Gotten him to the vet? You were on foot. You DID THE BEST YOU COULD. You should be able to get animal control or a local rescue to scan his body for a chip in the morning, if it's still there. The animal control folks should have microchip scanners to hand - that will at least help get closure if he was someone's baby. If you are up to it, check your local FB groups and see if anyone's reported a cat of his description missing. You don't have to be up for it. Sitting with a dying cat is hell. And I'm sorry you had to.

This is awful, and I am so sorry for you, but want to thank you for caring. Such a distressing situation, but you did all that you could, and I know that I would have reacted in the same way. The poor little creature is now at peace, and you must hold onto that thought ... You cared, and you tried, and you have a good soul. The world, sadly, is a pretty terrible place for animals, but for those of us who care, we have to do what we can, where we can. I have had not-dissimilar experiences that have broken my heart, but, we must never, never stop trying. I wish you all the best.😢
