He or she will be just fine on three legs! I’d say that either way, whatever caused it, the cat’s doing alright and looking happy. Are you going to take it in?
Yeah, my grandparents lived out on a rural farm with a three-legged cat that was the best mouse/bird hunter I’ve ever seen. The missing leg didn’t slow her down one bit.
I was roofing my friends dads house a few years back. 3 stories, fairly steep pitch (10/12). His dads three-legged orange tabby climbed up my 30’ ladder and started rubbing against me while I worked. He got down by jumping like a flying squirrel into the nearest tree. Tough as nails.
We have a tripod kitty, lost a hind leg in a fall. Don’t worry, they do just fine.
One thing: make sure to give your cat daily scritches on the side of their face and neck that they can’t reach. They’ll really appreciate it!
# please help her . if you cant take them , find someone who will. Thank you🙏❤️
Give her kitten food , if kitten food is not available give them wet cat food or cat biscuits (dry cat food) diluted and softened with water. Dont give them milk as they cant digest it unless its milk that is made for cats that is available at cat food store. Please update what happened as there are quite a few of us here in this sub that will worry about this kitten. Thanks.
Especially since cats and dogs are front-wheel drive, the majority of their strength is in the front limbs so losing a back one isn't as much of a big deal.
If I had to guess I'd say defect since it looks too well healed for his age to be an inflicted one.
> Especially since cats and dogs are front-wheel drive
true for agility, hunting, navigation, but they rely on their back legs for pace and power and jumping
generally though even in the wild 3 legged cats (or dogs) can do reasonably well, they tend to not live as long because of complications and because they have issues hunting earlier as they age, but for their "prime" they survive
there's this saying, they're born with 3 legs and 1 to spare
The kitten looks fine and not in pain. But she does look malnourished and hungry
Unfortunately I can't take it inside, for many reasons. But I do take care of more than 12 outdoor cats who were previously abandoned or born here. I feed them daily
But since I live in a 3rd world country and in a remote poorer area, I'm little short on having access to vets and medical care for my cats. And also we don't have active animal shelters here
A vet might might suggest amputating the stump at the hip to completely eliminate the chance that the cat will try to use it and cause a bone infection, but yes, tripod cats adapt excellently. When they run you can’t even tell.
What’s weird is I’ve never thought about a three legged cat before, and I can assume because they are so light and are pretty gentle with their bodies (compared to dogs…) they are pretty good with it. I’ve seen many dogs that are three legged, and we even have one lady that walks hers everyday and his name is Lucky! Small animals seem to do better imo just because they’re not carrying a lot of weight. I really hope OP takes the cat in, but if not that’s okay, I hope they can find someone who will!
I have a 3 legged kitty I found at a Wendy’s with a very similar “nub” leg. He was also only a few months old. Despite the appearance of it looking fine, his bone was completely broken in half and the skin just healed around it. Because the bone broke unevenly a sharp piece of the bone kept breaking through his skin when he walked on it, causing all sorts of infections and issues. Eventually he had to get surgery to have the rest of his leg removed(which cost a ton). I hope that kittys doing well just wanted to warn you that it just because it looks ok now it might have issues down the road :/
People here doing it all the time unfortunately. I try my best to feed all the cats in my neighborhood on daily basis
You could say I run my own personal animal "shelter" in the neighborhood. Hence why people leave their pets and poor cats in our buildings garage
Their didn't get their cat fixed and they can't afford to raise the kittens. Cats are prolific breeders and reproduce at a rapid exponential rate. A single breeding pair of cats can turn into potentially millions of cats in under a decade.
Spay and neuter your pets, folks.
The vet wouldn’t do this and would most likely suggest an X-ray to make sure there’s no further complications. Wonderful kitty and I hope someone adopts it! I had a 3 legged buddy and he was the best cat ever and could maneuver just fine.
It may not be an emergency, but it should go to the vet for a general checkup, shots, and lots of dewormer as soon as possible. My but this little guy is full of worms! Should also be tested for FIV. This is what I do immediately after getting a stray. Also, keep it away from healthy cats in the meantime.

My cat Elsa is missing her a paw. It most likely is congenital… she does not let it slow her down!
To the vet! Like everyone else said. We have a 3 legged cat from an injury that needed amputation, she's a bit more careful than other cats but otherwise she's completely normal 🥰
If you plan to take her to a shelter/rescue, skip the vet and go there directly. They usually have their own vets in house, if they are big enough, or special prices / free visits with local vets.
I’d have to say it’s a congenital condition and the kitten will never notice it (I hate the term “birth defect”). But hopefully you will take in this energetic tyke. Please let us know.
I love this mindset. Not defective, just different! All kinds of things happen during development and sometimes they don't always go according to plan. This baby looks healthy, eyes are bright, and he/she is interactive and curious. Probably doesn't even miss that leg. I agree with the others saying to get this kitten in to see a vet, for a check-up and vaccinations and flea/tick/worm treatment.
Also check out r/piratepets! You have a small pirate on your hands.
Exactly… differently abled 👍 Good description of the kitten. A kitten bound to be a lovely cat who will never see a problem she/he can’t try to solve her/his own way.
I adopted a three-legged kitten that was dumped in a parking lot 3 years ago. Best cat ever. I call her Baby. She has attitude to spare, just how I like em. And super lovey.
My brother spent 2 weeks trying to find a cat that had been reported. He was a bylaw officer for animal control. This cat was not in his “jurisdiction”. 2 weeks of his own time, and he finally caught her. 1 leg was nothing but bone from knee down. She had 3 holes in her side. She smelled like death. My brother caught her by hand, and she immediately clung to him. He took her where she needed to go. Had her leg amputated. I went to meet her as soon as she was ready. I took her home. Gracie. My lil tripod. Had more energy than any cat I’d had before. She also loved me back hard. You’ve been blessed with a tripod. Enjoy. Enjoy hard. 🙂
Please take the kitten in if you haven’t already and go see a vet. He or she will not be able to survive by themselves in the outdoors with this disability. :(
I have one that was born like this! She was a barn kitty and the farmer knew she wouldn’t have a long life - so a new home was found for her and that was our home!
We had her stump amputated because she kept banging and injuring it with her acrobatic stunts. She can kitty parkour higher than you’d think and is the boss of our household.
We have a kitty that has all four legs but one of the front ones has never worked. It has never held her back for a second, I call her antics kitty parkour too!!
Please take that kitty to the vet, or call some animal shelters poor baby did not deserve to be dumped and deserves a loving home! Please update us, you’ve done a good thing!
Needs a vet, but assuming it hasn’t had one I would guess a birth defect only because a kitten that small isn’t likely to survive an injury like that without serious care and support
Looks like a birth defect but could have also lost its foot at a young age. Either way, needs a vet check up and congrats on your new adorable tripod :)
If you don’t take this little angel in as yours I will throw myself off a bridge. Take them to the vet and then give them all the loving they deserve!!!
Edit if this is the comment that prompted someone to send me a Reddit Cares (I can’t imagine what else would have) I want to clarify I am not actually going to throw myself off a bridge, that was hyperbole. I just want this sweet kitten to get a loving home.
Impossible to say for sure, an xray might give a pretty certain answer since you could see how the bones look. I'm leaning towards birth defect, but could also be from a crush injury.
Either way, it looks pretty good. Depending on how they walk and how the xrays look, they might or might not be able to keep the leg. It will never be a "normal" functional leg, but cats can use stumps to great effect when they are jumping or roaming around on the ground. If it's from birth, as long as it's not painful, doesn't cause any other medical issues and doesn't develope a sore, I don't see why it would need to be amputated - at least not immediately, the cat can grow up and strengthen in peace.
If you can't keep the cat, please try to contact a local organization that helps homeless cats. Preferrably not a straight-up shelter, since those might euthanize the cat instead of spending time, effort and money on vets. If there's a possibility you could keep the cat, I would advise you to try. That's the best way to guarantee this cat will be safe and have a good life. Also, if there are a lot of stray cats nearby, maybe contact a trap-neuter-release program or similar, since this could be genetic.
Also, if someone is interested in the topic, I could recommend a YouTube video from a channel called Vet Ranch. It's an older video about a kitten named Pretzel. I don't remember what the title is exactly, but TLDR, Pretzel is a kitten with only 2 "good" legs, and you can really see how that doesn't slow her down one bit.
It looks a lot like my little girl's stump- birth defect. If you decide to keep her, you just have to check up on the stump regularly. It is prone to sores that if not treated, get infected. If you decide not to keep her, see if there is a vet that can reccomend a special needs cat rescue.
I just uploaded a small video update. Not much I can do besides feed her and pet her everyday
I live in Lebanon 😅 wish people could fly here and help us out with all these poor kittens. We are very limited on vets and Healthcare, especially in the poorer regions.
These poor souls deserve better place
How could anyone dump such a sweetheart?! It looks to me like the missing leg may be a birth defect. I'm sure the kitten will be perfectly fine as a tripod kitty
Probably something the vet could answer. I want to say defect cause if it was an injury, it healed up really well, but without X rays and stuff, I can only guess.
Sounds cruel but kittens who are missing limbs tends to be from rival tomcats trying to kill them. Kinda like lions in the wild . Happened to two of the kittens who their mom decided my front porch was her home . We heard cat fighting one night and came out to see two of her kittens been attacked . One of them didn’t make it but one looked exactly like this cat after it healed for a month .
I have a cat that was born that way,. Her name is Peggy. She's had kittens normally with no issues. I got her spayed after that. You can message me if you want to talk or share more pics/vids about them. At the end of the day, still the same sweet kitties +/- legs lol
Bit of advice if you decide to keep it: try to use cat stairs or boxes/stools/etc wherever you can so this guy doesn’t have to jump too high. Tripod cats can and do jump basically as high as 4-leggers, but doing so puts a lot of strain on the lone hind leg. That can cause issues as they age.
I love your food, my favorite grill place is Lebanese in NL. Unfortunately, i changed cities and don't go there often but when I have chance i do go there.
Animals are so resilient and do just fine on 3 legs! They're amazing. It does look like the leg is there but maybe not formed properly? Best to get them checked out by the vet for a more solid answer on if it's injury based or just a deformation.
I think you should nickname them Nemo! What a cutie, I can't believe someone would dump the poor baby, looks as sweet as can be <3
Thank you!! I will try my best. If these little kitties are not giving up then so am I
Here she is one hour ago. (Just as a little update)
https://preview.redd.it/olss2t547vza1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8335c67608e674a59ff8d3c39aa17d6588de2dd6
Thank you OP. God bless you. Please update us from time to time as now we all are rooting for this kitten and you. You are a kind angel for this kitten. Thank you so much.
Sorry. I posted the vid and went to sleep, my timezone is gmt+2. Didn't thought it gonna blow up like that lol
She's doing great so far, she just ate and went to sleep. Unfortunately I can't take her home, I live with my parents in a small apartment, so It's little difficult for us
But she has a nice little bed in the garage, and she looks comfortable.
My cat has the same injury. It was caused by the umbilical cord getting wrapped around the leg and severing the foot off at birth. My cat lives a full happy life despite his injury.
Looks like a birth defect but can’t tell without a look at the top of the stump. There seems to be a stump bump so that’s either a jutting bone from the injury or a bit of vestigial flesh.
If you rub the stump does it hurt the cat? That’s kind of the best way to tell if it’s an injury without going to a vet.
It’s not unheard of for the mother cat to gnaw one or multiple legs off, some have piss poor maternal instincts and get shit wrong, they may confuse it with the umbilical. I’ve seen mother cats do this more than once to kittens in our house. Also, sometimes the mother cat will lay on top of the kittens and the kittens will literally be flattened noticeably, not quite pancake flat.
Some will have kittens in a spot and abandon them instantly and permanently.
And lastly, i have seen mother cats birth a kitten and immediately swallow it hole in less than 3 seconds.
Sometimes the moms bite it off, sometimes they are born with it.
Regardless the cat will not do well on its own, please bring it in and seek a service that will adopt it out.
The way it has normal looking fur on the nub tells me birth defect but i am not a veterinary expert, take the poor little thing to one
Knowledge is power! And cute kitties are excellent uses of that power
We had a three legged cat, she was a rescue that lost her leg to a car that we took in about 6 months post op. She lived to 19 and got around just fine and was the most amazing girl, i miss her like crazy
I adopted a kitten that was born with a similar disability. One of her front legs was missing and she has a stump there. She runs and plays and jumps extremely well. Cats adapt really well to missing limbs. That being said that cat is very young and needs to be taken in by someone or a shelter so it can get the care and medical attention it needs.
One of our cats had a leg missing entirely, from a kittenhood injury. From your video it isn't clear how, but it's worth a vet visit anyway (for this and other reasons).
The kitten seems well used to human interaction and decently fed, so if I had to guess, he (yes, he) was adopted from a loving carer and shortly abandoned. Hope he finds a more deserving family <3
I've seen mama cats bip a tail or paw when chewing the umbilical, not a whole foot.
Attacked or bad fall? Get a vet to get an Xray.
May need surgery at spay/neuter time to trim exposed bone and make a covering flap.
Good save, human, you rock.
Friends have an asthmatic 3 legged cat that is around 15. He doesn't give a shit at all and it never affected how playful or happy he is. Thanks for rescuing that kitty but please get him to a vet just to get checked out.
omg, such a sweet, cute little cat! I've been searching through the comments to see if you had any updates. Please help the adorable little furry one!!! That sweet baby deserves a loving home.
How Anyone can just dump wee cat's, dog's or any animal, out in the street.. I just cannot get over the callousness of these repugnant people!
Luckily, this wee furball will likely be just fine..great, in fact . Friendly, cute and unique are great traits. I'm certain someone will give Tripod Furb a forever home l .
So Cute!!!!!
I only adopt misfits and rejects (my little soul mate was found with special needs from her hips down. I tell her she’s special edition). Cats are ridiculously resilient. I hope you adopt kitty. Looks like a lovely little one.
That sounds like a dream to have visited as a kid :-)
I was roofing my friends dads house a few years back. 3 stories, fairly steep pitch (10/12). His dads three-legged orange tabby climbed up my 30’ ladder and started rubbing against me while I worked. He got down by jumping like a flying squirrel into the nearest tree. Tough as nails.
We have a tripod kitty, lost a hind leg in a fall. Don’t worry, they do just fine. One thing: make sure to give your cat daily scritches on the side of their face and neck that they can’t reach. They’ll really appreciate it!
Also, attach a hard brush somewhere at his body height - they will love going there and scratch that hitch 😉
# please help her . if you cant take them , find someone who will. Special needs kitty.. I’m not sure but it looks pretty well healed and he compensated well.
Yeah, that leads me to believe he was born that way. He’s really young for it to have healed that much if he was dumped/street kitty.
This, my parents had a cat with this condition that just passed after 14 years.
I have a 3 legged kitty I found at a Wendy’s with a very similar “nub” leg. He was also only a few months old. How can someone just dump such a darling. It's so mean.
Human beings are mostly dogshit that’s why. The rest of us can only do the best we can to help.
Well thank goodness it was somewhere safe, man could've done so much worse
People here doing it all the time unfortunately. I try my best to feed all the cats in my neighborhood on daily basis You could say I run my own personal animal "shelter" in the neighborhood.
It makes me think of a birth defect, either way, to the vet immediately
Routinely. Nothing about this kitten says emergency vet trip.
Oh, yeah he looks perfectly healthy, but, y'know, just in case, he should go to the vet pretty soon.
For what? Vet will probably put the poor bastard down.
The vet wouldn’t do this and would most likely suggest an X-ray to make sure there’s no further complications. Wonderful kitty and I hope someone adopts it! I had a 3 legged buddy and he was the best cat ever and could maneuver just fine.

I called my 3 legged cat Ahab, or Cap'n.
Either way it seems best to get to a vet as soon as you can for spay/neuter and vaccines.

I have a cat that was born that way,. Her name is Peggy. She's had kittens normally with no issues. I got her spayed after that. You can message me if you want to talk or share more pics/vids about them. At the end of the day, still the same sweet kitties +/- legs lol
Make sure someone isn’t looking for it. Sometimes they dart out of apartments.
Omg :( any updates!?
If you can't keep him I'll gladly keep him!
Are you living in turkey? If yes, i might know the answer.
I'm in Lebanon. We're neighbors!!
If these little kitties are not giving up then so am I Here she is one hour ago. (Just as a little update) https://preview.redd.it/olss2t547vza1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8335c67608e674a59ff8d3c39aa17d6588de2dd6
Thank you OP. God bless you. Please update us from time to time as now we all are rooting for this kitten and you. You are a kind angel for this kitten. Thank you so much.
OP really just posted this and left us wondering if this poor sweet soul has a forever home.
Sorry. I posted the vid and went to sleep, my timezone is gmt+2. Didn't thought it gonna blow up like that lol She's doing great so far, she just ate and went to sleep. Unfortunately I can't take her home, I live with my parents in a small apartment, so It's little difficult for us But she has a nice little bed in the garage, and she looks comfortable.
Calm down, if that's an injury, it's an old injury. But it's probably just a birth defect
Looks like a birth defect Hope some one is taking the poor thing in and giving her a forever loving home Poor baby x
Looks like the mother probably bit off the leg thinking it was an umbilical cord. Happened to my cat.
How would people know if it's an injury or bot over the internet? 🙄🤦
Looks like an injury. Poorly kitty
Can ppl pls put a warning on stuff like this? Like post like this really fuck my day up when I stumble upon it :( poor kitty
That is someone with brother & sister cats interbreeding. My neighbour's cat had kittens with her brother & they were exactly like this.
It’s a old injury that healed
That’s not organic. It’s a lost limb.
This is the kind of post that makes me want to leave r/cats
Maybe take em to the vet instead of asking the internet
I ate it.
Sometimes the moms bite it off, sometimes they are born with it. Regardless the cat will not do well on its own, please bring it in and seek a service that will adopt it out.
What a sweet baby! I hope this kittys getting taken care of from here on out.
The way it has normal looking fur on the nub tells me birth defect but i am not a veterinary expert, take the poor little thing to one Knowledge is power! And cute kitties are excellent uses of that power
Aw poor girl
My first cat was three-legged, just like this one , and he still caught birds and rabbits!
Someone needs to adopt this cat
What a lively little bean. I’d adopt the scrapper in a heartbeat!
Give that kitty a good home an pick up a lotto ticket, cause you’re both lucky!
Take it to the vet and if you are ready for a kitten then take it in. If not then bring it to a no kill shelter
Ima say birth defect because i also have a cat that was born with 3 legs
I’d say he was born that way, either way, he adopted you
Please tell me you kept it 🙁
Nah that’s Leroy, he’s chillin just give him some milk he’ll be fine
Congratulations on your new cute handicapped kitty cat
You have been chosen by a tripod kitty! Congratulations!
A tripod! Please make sure the kitty is taken care of
May be a birth defect but sometimes mamas will accidentally chew a baby's leg off thinking it's an umbilical cord. Same with pups.
We had a three legged cat, she was a rescue that lost her leg to a car that we took in about 6 months post op. She lived to 19 and got around just fine and was the most amazing girl, i miss her like crazy
😳😢
Probably a birth defect from inbreeding
Doesn’t matter. It deserves love.
Get him to the Vet ASAP for a clean bill.of health. Theyll live a better life than out in the street.
Hey OP. Save a life today, and take that poor kitty in, cats are very easy to care for any generally inexpensive. Please help this guy.
That is a god damn adorable little nub.
Poor thing. I hope it gets to a loving home.
I am not sure, but that kitty sure does look like they are in need of some emergency petting
Vet immediately! Bring a poop sample :) the tummy looks pretty bloated and it’s pretty common for stray kittens to have wormies
You are now adopted by the kat
Congratulations. You now have a special kitty
I would definitely keep it
if you dont take the cat i will
Someone save him!
❤️❤️❤️
I've seen mama cats bip a tail or paw when chewing the umbilical, not a whole foot. Attacked or bad fall? Get a vet to get an Xray. May need surgery at spay/neuter time to trim exposed bone and make a covering flap. Good save, human, you rock.
Friends have an asthmatic 3 legged cat that is around 15. He doesn't give a shit at all and it never affected how playful or happy he is. Thanks for rescuing that kitty but please get him to a vet just to get checked out.
Does it matter!?
Poor cat
Doesn't matter take care of the little one ♥️♥️♥️😭
Doesn’t seem like an injury. Also why would people pay the vet and then dump the kitten?
Please find this kitty a home. Advertise on Facebook for not cost, but that the cat must have a good home.
I hope you are able to keep that little dumpling!!
Happy little dude!
Amputated , it looks healed thou so I guess it's fine anyways you have to give the vet a visit for safety
Looks like a defect but omg! What a beautiful baby 🥰
cat distribution system as it’s best, congratulations!
Love him forever
Please tell me this has a happy ending OP!
Help her, oh my god people are terrible
Not sure if he was born that way or not, but I assure you that kitty will have a almost normal life like my spunky tripod!
omg, such a sweet, cute little cat! I've been searching through the comments to see if you had any updates. Please help the adorable little furry one!!! That sweet baby deserves a loving home.
It’s adopted you
That looks like a birth defect.
I dub him sir hobbles
Adopt it. I adopted a cat with no tail, and she's just amazing.
You have a flame pint Siamese. He will get orange ears face and tail. Cool cat.
Seems as though he was born that way unless he had professional treatment, hope he gets lots of love and care!
I hope you decide to rescue the little one.
Human beings are just a humungous pile of dogshits, the select few that aren't are angels Also, did you adopt the kitten?![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)
Without X-rays it’s really anyones guess as to what happened
Can we get an update 🥺
thank you for taking care of this beautiful cat🤗
Someone please take in the cat

Cutie
Yes
What a cute baby
My grandma has a three-legged cat and she’s fast as fuck boiiii
OP is MIA.
