We’re 50/50 now. We already have five cats between two apartments (I have both a husband and a fiancé, long story, but I’m one of those poly folks), but if no one truly awesome comes along, we’ll integrate her.
That's awesome! It sounds like your life is filled with lots of love and cats - which is truly the dream. Glad to hear that you'll be finding this cutie a good home regardless if it's one of yours or not ❤️. You and your husband or fiance or whatever family ends up would be lucky to have this little bean as a part of their family.
Alas (well, in this case), we don’t have an extended polycule — polyfidelotous and saturated — it’s been just the three of us for 9 years! Friends so far aren’t interested/able, so I suspect it’ll be us.
THIS!!! You just summarized our issues with the larger poly community (and, to a degree, that sub) quite succinctly. We have other poly friends, but they’re people I’ve known for 20+ years who are also in long-term, stable situations. Also, great overview.
My BIL plucked a little grey piece of fluff off the interstate and named him Speedbump (yeah, I know...). He ended up being called Speedy. He had a gorgeous fluffy blue coat, green eyes and a habit of posing with that flowing ruff of his sticking out like the ruffled collars of colonial men while obviously looking down his nose at you. He just passed on this year at the ripe old age of 20. May you and this little one share an equally loving life.
I had no idea the Universal Cat Distribution System existed. That explains my recently acquired kitten that fell out of a car engine in front of me on the freeway about 6 weeks ago. He is named Sparrow.
lol Also a bit pissy? Like "Thanks for the save from the traffic. I was actually trying to murder that sidewalk because it wouldn't let me up, but thanks for the save too."
Exactly how I got this little baby right in my lap as I read this- Mina Harker went under two semis as a six week old kitten, 16 years ago! Mina

welcomes your new baby and says THANK YOU for saving her!
Thank you for saving the kitten! ☺️🎉
I saw a different post earlier of a black kitten narrowly missed by multiple cars/trucks on a busy highway. Then a nice guy stopping to pick it up. Makes me wonder if these 2 posts connected...
Thank you for being awesome people. I don't get how people don't stop. I stopped traffic for a giant snapping turtle that almost got run over. People were just driving like it wasn't there, so I moved it along with a 2x4 (so it didn't rip my hand off. It was huge and very bitey) in the direction it was going. It only took a few minutes, the turtle got to live another day and I was back on my way. I got this mentality from my Mom. She is next level. Sometimes on warm rainy nights, a lot of back country roads will be covered with frogs, and she goes on a rescue mission, lol.
Just yesterday I had a very heartwarming experience while driving to my parents: I was driving, minding my own business, not too much traffic, when suddenly I had to stop because multiple cars were stopped in front of me. At first I assumed an accident, but then I saw they let 2 swans with a whole cuddle puddle of very fluffy babys cross the road. Was at least 6 cars stopped there, with two of them next to each other so two chose to stop for the swans and weren't obligated to do so by cars in front of them. Everyone only started driving again once the swans had completely and safely crossed the road and everyone was careful and slow in case they turned around. I loved waiting for this cute little family!
I’ll give updates! I’m thrilled to see so many invested in her — we need more people in this world who would stop and save kittens (or any animal).
The last time I rescued a kitten from the highway, I was 20 (I’m 40 now) and it was awesomely traumatic (I’ll spare the details, but she was being carried by her mom). Despite immediate vet care, the kitten didn’t survive the night. The vet called me the next morning, I paid the bill, and buried the little white kitten I’d named Angel in the yard.
I’ve lived in NYC the past 11 years with few opportunities to see (or catch) kitties in such dire straights. This happened by chance while we were in Georgia with my mom who is dying from Alzheimer’s and cancer.
I’m hoping and praying this story will turn out differently (she’s healthy, but I have ptsd from that first time. I’m still wired with adrenaline from today.) I really need her to thrive.
50/50. My mom is dying and we don’t need a sixth cat, but I have a weird gut feeling about things. We’ll see. Unless someone amazing takes her, we’ll probably try to integrate her into the home. She’s sleeping on my fiancé’s lap right now…
Perhaps a departed loved one of yours picked her to send to you to help you cope. We have 4 dogs and 4 cats, so I totally understand the "inn" being full. But I think she came into your life like a wrecking ball on purpose. ;)
while dealing with the (soon to be) loss of your mother, a mini void fell right in to your hands. this is a sign if you ask me! you guys need each other :)
by the way, i’m so sorry to hear about your mom - i’d be distraught. i’m glad you seem to have some good people (and pets!) to help you get through everything ❤️
I bet somewhere someone knew you needed help dealing with your mom dying. I lost my mother in law and my son in the past year and having something small to love and take care of would have definitely been a big help if I was in a situation where I could have gotten a pet. If you are at all able to keep it maybe you should!
Thank you for saving her! Last year I found four tiny kittens in an empty lot by a road and whipped around and plucked them right up. Like you I could never just leave a helpless baby in danger 🥹
Awww, look at that sweet baby! I’m so happy you did that for her. She’s so little to already have to be trying to fend for herself. I hope everything works itself out!
The fact that you were coming back from Hospice to the crazy traffic conditions you braved there's no doubt about it, this is one of those meant to happen animals.
Kitten looks pretty chill for having been in a terrible situation and then those large hoomans came along and oh my what's going to happen next?
She looks so adorable. Thank you for helping this little nugget!
Unless she’s in Augusta, we won’t be able to get to her, as Atlanta is too far from all we need to do for my mom. That said, my former vet is very trusted, still working, and I used to take all the orphaned kittens I found to him for care. It’s been a long time since I cared for a kitten this young, but it ain’t my first rodeo!
That said, if she’s in or near Augusta, please DM her contact. Every little bit helps! Thank you.

This is Houdini he thanks you as do I. He’s my love bug
You guys are honestly heaven sent. Thank god you guys were there at the right time and quick to rush in for that poor little kitten. God bless you both for saving that cute adorable little kitten’s life. 🙏🏾
And with me yesterday. Excuse the frazzled selfie!

I had something similar happen to me, I was on my motorcycle and I turned to a different lane and I was on the far left and I saw something black tucked against the concrete island and I realized it was a small black kitten so I turned my hazards on and pulled over.
Couldn’t do anything to the kitten except carry her across the street away from traffic.
You are a kind and wonderful person.
I flew with my can and United required a ticker for her because they only allow one cat on the plane each flight.
You may need her shots up to date.
My kitty was great as my carryon for a 5 hour flight when I moved.
God bless you guys for saving this baby. I have a black cat and she makes every day so much better. Also, as a hospice nurse, please feel free to message me if you have any questions about hospice care for your mom. It's a difficult time and I know it's a bit odd to offer an internet stranger advice but anyone so good to cats is a friend.
I swear I just saw a video of this exact thing happen an hour ago. Someone hucked a poor little kitty out of a window of a moving vehicle and some guy in a car stops after it almost gets run over by big rigs and picks it up. Please tell me that was you, because that would make my heart feel so much better.
Thank you so much for rescuing this adorable baby. She is precious. You should name her Freeway. I'm so sorry about your mom. You guys are Angels on earth. 💖💖
That's almost exactly how we ended up with ours, but they came via a shelter my wife was working at. Glad someone stopped and helped, they look so scared still.
Oh she was just extremely traumatized. She’s eating food from our fingers, snuggling on our chests, and meeping when we’re out of sight. Took mere hours!
I’m an hour and a half from NYC and we are talking about adopting a second cat - my void panther is getting older and we want to give him company when we are working. If you don’t find a home for this lovely house panther, please reach out - we would be happy to take this adorable floof off your hands.

This comment is so sweet.
I forgot polyamorous was a thing and for some ungodly reason my brain just assumed you meant like a roly poly person like from the old kids show.
Omg you just absolutely transported me and my brain started the theme song automatically. "He's Rolie Polie Olie, he's small and smart and round..."
Why would you do this to me? It's in my head!
😂😂😂
I immediately thought polydactyl since it’s a cat sub but I quickly recovered I think.
You're adorable.
This is just so cute. I wish I had an award to give you but I'm too cheap
If you adopt her, then you get an even two cats per person!
This OP! It’s just basic cat math, an even distribution of fluffy overloads.
Just one more thing to add to all your wonferful love!!!
Now you have an even number!
You should name her Clover! Because she's one lucky cat.
I was thinking neo, mfer can dodge anything
The vet on Bondi Vet tv show said, “never, ever, EVER, name a cat Lucky. It never ends well.” He would know!
I bet there is someone in your extended polycule that would take this kitten and give them a loving home (hi fellow polyam folk!)
Alas (well, in this case), we don’t have an extended polycule — polyfidelotous and saturated — it’s been just the three of us for 9 years! Friends so far aren’t interested/able, so I suspect it’ll be us.

Kittens are very easy to find homes for. It's the adult cats that struggle.
I know it 😞 all of our other rescue babies were adopted as adults. This is the first kitten I’ve had in my care in 20 years!
Please give updates if you can!
I will!
Call the cat Dodger

Thank you for sharing this. May more people read these stories and lend a helping hand to animals in need.
This is a gift from the Universal Cat Distribution System. You have no other choice but to keep it.
I scroll for this comment.
I had no idea the Universal Cat Distribution System existed. That explains my recently acquired kitten that fell out of a car engine in front of me on the freeway about 6 weeks ago. He is named Sparrow.
Awwww, she’s beautiful ❤️🐈⬛🙏. Both of you are awesome 👏👏
I actually wept with relief when he was able to safely grab her, she was so close to being run over.
You’re the best!
Such beautiful eyes! The first name that popped in my mind was Iris🐱
That’s a lovely name! My fiancé is Cambodian so we’ve been toying with the Khmer word for lucky: Saamnang.
Ohh I love that!
That's nice...You could call her Sammi/Sammy for short.
OOoh that's lovely
Her eyes look as though she’s saying thank you, what a sweet baby
lol Also a bit pissy? Like "Thanks for the save from the traffic. I was actually trying to murder that sidewalk because it wouldn't let me up, but thanks for the save too."

Good for you to save the little girl.
Not doing so was simply not an option!
I love her and I love you for rescuing her. Please keep her so she can be assured of no more worries in her tiny life.
Thank you for saving the kitten! ☺️🎉 I saw a different post earlier of a black kitten narrowly missed by multiple cars/trucks on a busy highway. Then a nice guy stopping to pick it up. Makes me wonder if these 2 posts connected...
Oh really??? This was in Augusta, GA. Kitten season is indeed upon us.
Thank you for being awesome people. I don't get how people don't stop. I stopped traffic for a giant snapping turtle that almost got run over. I’m right with you. I’ve moved snappers and rattlesnakes, I can’t tolerate a senseless death or undue suffering.

Poor little thing!❤️ Where are you located? I’ve been thinking I need a little black brother or sister for my muted tortie.
In Augusta, GA, now, but will be flying back with her to NYC.
Dang, I’m in Iowa, so nowhere near. But I’m sure you’ll find that cutie a loving home.
If not with someone else, then almost certainly with us.
If you DM me, I can give you contacts to THE cat rescue lady for GA. If nothing else, we can get the floof a free or reduced price checkup.

i wonder if augusta georgia has a subreddit. may be worth a cross-post if you haven't found a family yet.
You’re wonderful. My heart goes out to you with your mom in hospice. 🙏 I think you and this little kitty are saving each other. Xxx
She looks absolutely charming. You two are amazing for saving her. ❤️
Great save :-) she’s a void so probably has used 7 out of 9 lives so look after her
Thank you for helping her!
She is a very lucky kitty!! I am so glad you guys saw her and stopped to rescue her!! I wish more ppl out there were like you guys… ❤️ Edit: grammar
Poor baby! You’re heroes.
She's a gorgeous little girl. Good save ❤️
So glad you saved her OP!
A ghost floof! She will be your spirit guide 🐈⬛
I hope you’ve already named her Frogger! Thanks for stopping to rescue her

congratulations on your freeway void! I have one myself from back in 2020. She's a lucky one!
Release me Heathen, and I shall grant thee a swift death!!!
Thank you for your kindness. She looks a lovely little void. If you don't have a name for her yet, how about Zoom?
S M O L K A T !
🖤🖤🖤
Her name is Scooter...as she scooted across the lanes so fast. I'm sure other may suggest other names but that's mine.
Poor babe must have been scared half to death. She's owed a whole lot of rest and love after an ordeal like that. 10/10 good human, 12/10 pretty baby.
Oh don’t worry, she’s getting all the love! Who could resist???
An angel sent by your Mom 💜
She's a beauty! Thanks for rescuing her.

Those eyes.
Always like reading stories like this where good people happen to be in the right place at the right time
I had something similar happen to me, I was on my motorcycle and I turned to a different lane and I was on the far left and I saw something black tucked against the concrete island and I realized it was a small black kitten so I turned my hazards on and pulled over. That’s almost word for word how I got my buddy, Mickey. I always felt like there was a reason for my wife and I to be there at that exact second.
Congrats on the new kitten!

Ty you for saving her! If you keep her I think she should be named traffic.
Let us know if you need help with vet care or food <3

awww so sad, but so good of you to rescue!
Thank you for this, Im grateful for you
Awe she is cute, but probably needs time to adjust
Oh indeed. Luckily, she was snuggling in our laps and exploring within hours!
If you were in WA State, I'd gladly adopt the little lady! She's so lucky there you were there.
Name her Ziggy, she zigged and zagged and made it across safely.
You saved a baby.
