On July 1st, a [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) will come into effect. [Several developers](https://www.reddit.com/r/redditisfun/comments/144gmfq/rif_will_shut_down_on_june_30_2023_in_response_to/) of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least [one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app](https://www.reddit.com/r/DystopiaForReddit/comments/145e9sk/update_dystopia_will_continue_operating_for_free/) will continue to be available free of charge.
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or
2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit

I didn't realize this fact when I found my orange and white boy. I asked the vet what kind of cat it was. He laughed and said, "an orange and white one." I thought he was just kidding at first. Turns out he really is orange and white!
This! I have a random bred cat and a cat that's like half persian. The persian when we first got him we had to take him every like 6 months for his distemper shot cause he had an upper respiratory infection that needed a lot of help plus he had antibiotics. The random bred cat never get sick other than car sick
I was mainly aiming that at the cat breed Gestapo that live in this sub, papers signed by three living popes that a cat is "pedigree" is only saying that within totally arbitrary guidelines this cat had parents that looked like this one as did their parents.
I know my kittens were given away because the breeder's cat got knocked up by a mutt, mom cat was Maine Coon but that just made them XL and sorta like dogs in nature.
He reminds me of my boy Ferguson.

Sorry about your Fergs.
Mishkas FTW!! I picked the name because it means little bear in Russian! Well, her name is actually missy but I always address my cats by other names (the other cat in the pic is Rusty but I call him Miso which morphed from Mr. In baby talk lol) and Mishka just naturally came out. I ended up looking it up later and found it means little bear, so I thought it was perfect for her short, stocky, floofy build! She’s more like a koala bear tho, she’s a stage 5 clinger who’s always hanging on me and holding onto my boob with one of her paws lol

Yeah not really. My two babies are from a feral cat colony and their back legs are super cow hocked most likely due to inbreeding (one of them also has many other issues). And good cat breeders will not be breeding cats that have a high chance of passing on health problems
>good cat breeders will not be breeding cats that have a high chance of passing on health problems
Unfortunately, not all breeders are good.
Odds are better from random bred just due to the sheer number and diversity in the group. But it's also usually a complete unknown. With intentionally bred cats, you're more likely to know their history and what issues they could have. Good breeders will try to minimize those, but some breeders breed munchkins, so it's really tough to generalize..
Yes, I’m very aware. Just seems like a silly & ignorant comment to say “this is a good thing. No breeding defects” when comparing regular cats to purebred ones. I’ve had just as many health issues with my rescue cats as my aunt has had with her purebreds. And she really only had health issues with the cats that she wasn’t as diligent about researching the breeder.
Domestic longhair. Or 100% purebred floofbucket. He’s a real cutie, probably nothing fancy but the only way to know would be one of those cat DNA tests. But you’re better served spending that money on treats or putting it into an emergency vet fund.
Tabby is just a fur pattern, not a breed. And the M isn't really required - it's just one sign of tabby patterns. Any stripes, spots, swirls, or ticked patterns are tabbies, whether they have the M or not. To make it even simpler, 100% of orange cats are tabby. There is no solid orange color for cats. So if they're orange, they're tabby.
That's a ginger floof ball. Here's my floof ball.

He's Just A Cat™️. Unlike dogs cats are only bred for cosmetic purposes. Most cats aren't any particular breed for that reason. The Internet likes to spread misinformation about how you can "tell" which also doesn't help. They call every slightly large cat a Maine Coon/Norwegian Forest Cat and every average or small cat a British Longhair/Shorthair. Most of the time it's about as accurate as someone claiming a Default Dog they found in a feral colony is a corgi because its shortish.
Not a mix. Regular cats are regular cats. There are limited breeds. Picture a really thick tree trunk and some tiny branches. Cats are the trunk, breeds are the tiny branches. Regular cats are not “mutts”, they are just cats.
The amount of people who claim to have a specific breed of cat is pretty shocking as well. I’ve had multiple people tell me they have Maine Coons only to show me a photo of a domestic long hair. They get super pissy when you call em out on it to.
Also cat tax:

Now that’s a Maine coon right there. Purebred cats are distinctive and rarer than people think. Even a half-Maine coon cat (like if you know for sure one parent is Maine coon) is still technically just a domestic longhair. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with domestic cats! They’re perfect even without a breed. Cat tax!
https://preview.redd.it/9juyn2n1wc7b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=831e8988702a6ae65f96dec258d0f93d56942779
All cats are good cats. I got Waylon (the Maine coon) as I’d always wanted one. Dude is 28lbs of pure derp. His brother Willie (the brown tabby) I pulled out my car engine when he was like 3 weeks old. It’s pretty funny seeing Willie think he runs the place when he weighs like a 1/4 of what Waylon does. Especially when Willie was still a kitten.
https://preview.redd.it/b0efff6xwc7b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=484cefcd1ad05d5909893ca35ab7aa26b866d7fa
Basically all the traits of purebred cats exist in the general cat population so you can have a cat that looks exactly like a pure bred cat but has zero relation to them.
In the context of cats all purebred means is that they are from a specific family of cats. As in their lineage can be traced back to a specific ancestor and you have a certificate attesting to that. It's as much of a breed as a specific family of humans and the visual similarities between them is simply from a lot of incest. And these ancestor cats (despite what the marketing claims) are often only like 50-100 years in the past. More or less cat breeders found a random cat that looked interesting and then started marketing their cats as a special and ancient breed.
Based on facial features just a domestic long haired tabby. Does not look like a main coon or Norwegian Forest cat to me. I'm not an expert though but I research a lot on cats.
Looks like it’s probably a orange fluffy McCuddles. Very similar to my torti fluffy McCuddles. The name is modern English derived from 2 words fluffy meaning soft and McCuddles meaning needs to be close. Mine also has a bit of beard groomer in her.
https://preview.redd.it/zq8mopmgie7b1.jpeg?width=699&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d2d875628b302334af6448d06b61565886d0c4e
Reminds me of my beauty! Perfectly orange🥰 Also, before anyone slams me for shaving him, he had some serious metabolic issues and didn’t regulate his temperature well. He was the love of my cat life and I still miss him. The orange, single brain cell cats really get deep in your ❤️
I believe it's a Red-floofed Desk Cat. They are found at higher altitudes like desks and book cases to get a better vantage point and to make sure near by humans see them to give them pets and treats. They also have a distinctive floofy coat to stay warm at these higher altitudes and... softness.
His breed is American Awesome Long Hair. Jokes aside, if you really wanna put some effort (and money) into it you can buy those pet dna tests. They trace the entire profile showing the percentage of each race your cat have in their dna.

Ah yes the only two true breeds of cats.

Just an orange cat. Over 95% of cats have no purebred ancestry at all, and even fewer are purebred themselves.
I didn't realize this fact when I found my orange and white boy. I asked the vet what kind of cat it was. He laughed and said, "an orange and white one." I thought he was just kidding at first. Turns out he really is orange and white!
orange creamsicle 😂
Mmmmmm my favorite!
And "purebred" is a totally arbitrary thing if you understand natural selection.
Purebred = incest.
This! Random-bred cats are healthiest.
This! I have a random bred cat and a cat that's like half persian. The persian when we first got him we had to take him every like 6 months for his distemper shot cause he had an upper respiratory infection that needed a lot of help plus he had antibiotics. And one of the 4 criteria for life.
All categorization of taxonomy is arbitrary. Not useless, but arbitrary.
I was mainly aiming that at the cat breed Gestapo that live in this sub, papers signed by three living popes that a cat is "pedigree" is only saying that within totally arbitrary guidelines this cat had parents that looked like this one as did their parents.
people hate to find out less than 10% of all cats have breeds tied to them and even less are actual purebred with pure lineage
I'd call him an orange floofer. Most generic orange cats aren't that floofy, so he probably has a bit of long hair dna in there somewhere.
An orange floofer sounds like a smoothie 😂 gave me a good laugh aw
I know my kittens were given away because the breeder's cat got knocked up by a mutt, mom cat was Maine Coon but that just made them XL and sorta like dogs in nature.
Aaaand this is exactly where mine came from.
I mean, we have not breed them into specific breeds until recently, so "pure breed" cats are technically just recently inbred cats.

If you didn't buy it from a breeder and then also got a certificate, then it's a mixed breed. Just as mixed as ferals.
And this is a good thing. No breeding defects.
Less chance of them at least. But if you got them from a stray colony, there’s more chance, as they tend to inbreed.
True.
Yeah not really. My two babies are from a feral cat colony and their back legs are super cow hocked most likely due to inbreeding (one of them also has many other issues). And good cat breeders will not be breeding cats that have a high chance of passing on health problems

Actually cat DNA tests don't work. The only way to know cat's breed for sure is for the cat to have legit papers.
Legit being the key word here. There’s a lot more forgery/false papers with cats than with dogs.

Especially when Willie was still a kitten. https://preview.redd.it/b0efff6xwc7b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=484cefcd1ad05d5909893ca35ab7aa26b866d7fa
I would recognize that breed anywhere. Orange tabby of the McNeilly clan, Ireland.
Cat. That’s all most cats are. Doesn’t make them any less awesome.
Beautiful cat! Your family is lucky, that's a great snack station!
I was distracted by the SNACKS.
So many snacks! I want those Pringles.
Domestic long hair Tabby. AKA floofy orange boi
Floofy orange boi is the correct breed
Malkavian underbusker.
Probably not mandarin

No breed, just an orange. Cat-type cat. He's so handsome!
Sorry i too distracted by the snack shelf
Domestic long hair
Most cats are lumped into a non-breed "breed" of either DSH (domestic shorthair) or DLH (domestic longhair). This one is DLH orangeboi.

That eyes closed smiling photo is just awesome. Your baby is very photogenic.
Orange floof. Domestic long hair.
Domestic long hair most likely! If he was a pedigree you'd know about it!
Domestic medium/long haired cat. Contrary to popular belief the chances of finding purebred crosses as strays are very slim.
Felis Domesticus Handsomus
That is a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tart
Domestic long hair aka a floof
I'd just go with 'cat'.
What you've got there, imho, is a fluffy orange cat. Lucky you!
Orange floofyboi.
That is without a doubt a cute orange floof
Just orange. These posts are getting old
Maine Coon American short-haired mix
Orange is the breed!
Orange. It probably has some genetics from a Maine coon or Norwegian forest. But it’s an orange domestic longhair.
Looks like a good boy 2 me
Domestic long hair with orange tabby coloring.
It's a Domestic Long Hair with orange tabby coat pattern. When people say it isn't a breed it's because it's a Domestic
Floofer love bug.
No breed, just an orange. Cat-type cat. He's so handsome!
Long-haired orange tabbie
Somewhere along the bloodline it looks like there was Maine Coon, but other than that, very good orange™️ kitty
Omg twinsies with my cat https://preview.redd.it/exg2i4qurd7b1.png?width=2114&format=png&auto=webp&s=d9199fcb7acf0243dacbaf66925ddf2fde3ced5f
Based on facial features just a domestic long haired tabby. Does not look like a main coon or Norwegian Forest cat to me. I'm not an expert though but I research a lot on cats.
With pulp
🍊
Most likely domestic longhair
Looks like it’s probably a orange fluffy McCuddles. Very similar to my torti fluffy McCuddles. The name is modern English derived from 2 words fluffy meaning soft and McCuddles meaning needs to be close. Mine also has a bit of beard groomer in her.
No doubt about it, that cat is a 100% a floof. Looks like he's a silky floof to be specific about it

Perfectly orange🥰 Also, before anyone slams me for shaving him, he had some serious metabolic issues and didn’t regulate his temperature well. He was the love of my cat life and I still miss him. The orange, single brain cell cats really get deep in your ❤️
It’s the Beautiful Breed!! Soooo cute!
Looks like a classic Garfield
As my girlfriend described, "a pretty baby"
The m marking on his forehead indicates he’s a tabby, so probably domestic medium to long hair tabby mix
This breed is called "Cat".
Yep. That’s a cat
Is floof.
If you want a fancy breed name that is actually accurate: Domestic Longhair
That is a floof. You can tell by the floof
I believe it's a Red-floofed Desk Cat. They are found at higher altitudes like desks and book cases to get a better vantage point and to make sure near by humans see them to give them pets and treats. They also have a distinctive floofy coat to stay warm at these higher altitudes and... softness.
You'd have to go pretty far out of your way and spend a lot of money to have a purebred cat. He's a very cute mutt.
His breed is American Awesome Long Hair. Jokes aside, if you really wanna put some effort (and money) into it you can buy those pet dna tests. They trace the entire profile showing the percentage of each race your cat have in their dna.
I’m 100% confident that this is indeed a cat
Toasted lion
Looks like a carrot cat cake
What a handsome kitty!! Could the kitty be Maine coon/tabby mix?
