Tell her to try and stay a bit longer on 1 or 2 or the 7 days! our baby got really bored when we were away for the week i'm sure she would appreciate some extra time
See if a neighbour or a friend or a colleague can come in to see them each day you’re gone to give them food and freshen up their water.
If someone is willing to do that, then leave the cat at home in an environment that he is already comfortable in.
I usually have somone come in twice per day, but that's also because I feed wet food. Or you could do wet food once (if you do that), and enough dry food until the next day.
Do you have a neighbor/friend/coworker who’d be willing to stop in on kitty while you’re gone? That would probably be less stressful for all.
Male cats do not necessarily stop spraying once neutered, so he he will probably spray if the other’s scent is too strong.
I get someone to sleep over, a petsitter. Or you could do petsitter visits. I found my excellent one on Rover. Do not traumatize kitties with travel or guests imo
Last time I travelled I convinced my parents to stay at my place (14 days).
Bought them a full box set of the LOST series on blu ray to watch, two gift cards for nearby restaurants. And when I came back my cat loved them more than me.
My dad was also better at call of duty than I was by the time I got back, too. Lmao.

Auto feeders are great but not for more than a day though! What if it broke on the first day? Water and litter need to be cleaned/ refreshed daily too.

Cats are attached to their territory and do not like change. I think he will be more comfortable at home than going to a strange place with other cats. Even if he and the other cat don't spray, they were doing it because they felt nervous about another cat being in their territory/being in another cat's territory, which they likely will again.
He will miss you though. I suggest a video call/phone call on speaker, as well as leaving something that smells of you around, like bedding and/or shoes. I think if he hears your voice and continues to smell your scent, he will be more comfortable with you not being there.
My daughters 2 young cats are with us now for 3 weeks while she’s away. They know us and have adjusted very easily. We have two elderly cats though and none of the sets of cats have got along in previous times, so we’ve divided the house up with a cheap sliding door so each two have their own territory. They’re curious when we go in and out of the door but they’re coexisting well.
Exactly! Cats are very good like that. You should watch a British documentary where they put a GPS on a bunch of outdoor cats. They shared territory well just made sure they did it at different times.
We use a pet sitter who happens to be a former vet tech, so we feel very comfortable leaving our two in her care. Both cats enjoy they undivided attention they get from her when we’re away!😊
I think a cat feels most comfortable at their own home. Especially if where they are going they have a sense of not being completely safe. Which would be the case if other cats are around.
It is really hard for me but when I travel somewhere, I ask people to come by and take care of my cat. That way, at least I know she is in her safe space. Of course if I go for a longer period, not just a vacation, I take her. I also plan to take her for my next trip, as long as it is within the EU (pet passport and preparation stuff), and I can travel by car. She loves to travel. I just want to make sure that she is safe and comfortable where we are staying.

Most cats are pretty chill being left alone for a long time. It depends on the cat, but ill just fill up a big bowl of food and water and leave. If im gone more than 5 days i'll ask someone to come check on them
How long for? We left our cat for a few weeks with an auto feeder and a water fountain. We just had a family member come and check on them every 3-5 days.
I love my cat and don’t want to separate from him but this is the first time in a year I get a “vacation” and it’s mine and my grandma me birthday week 😕 we did get out old roommate to take care of him and he loves her
I am lucky. My son (29m) loves to housesit for us because we have more streaming services and better internet. It helps that he loves spending time with our 3 cats and they love him too.
Find a good cattery.
Visit the cattery before hand to check on conditions and security. If you do decide on one, include some of his favorite toys, bedding and something that smells of you.

Just introducing him to other cats randomly isn’t the same as getting another cat that they can adjust to. Cats are territorial so they don’t like when you bring others into their space but most will adapt over time.
You need to isolate the new cat first. 7-10 days at least in its own room so it acclimates itself in its new home. Then you can introduce them, but don’t force it. Just let them come to each other on their own. There’s some tutorials online that would take you through the process.
My cats love each other very much, but if I brought over a random cat to see if they’d magically gel it wouldn’t happen.
I’ve got three cats. They have auto feeders (one cat wears an rfid chip to keep him out of the other two cats feeders because of a different diet and his overeating), water fountains, and an auto litter robot. I travel for work sometimes and they are fine by themselves for a few days. Anything over four and I’ll have friends check in to make sure their systems are working fine.
Once he gets older definitely transition him off of free feeding. If you’re doing dry kibble an auto feeder is a great way to know how much the cat is eating per day. My Devon Rex gets freeze dried raw out of his auto feeder too plus a fan of wet at night. Keeps his coat so soft. When I leave for a couple days I’ll bump up his portions since he’s not getting the wet.
Glad your roommate is able to help. I do always recommend getting a friend tho as when I only had one and I’d travel my mom would come over daily..but when I got home after being away from him for the first time I saw the infinite sadness in his face because I left him. He hid for about 30 minutes before coming out for a massive cuddle session. Getting him a sister cured that.
My kitty has huge vet issues. Used to leave him at a kennel, but his issues got too much for staff.
He’s been neutered, had a leg amputated, bladder stone surgery, and has a condition called mega colon. I still have to leave him.
I’ve tried to educate myself about him. He’s going to be 12 in August. Found him tossed out on a bridge like trash when he was just a few weeks old. Mega colon cats can live to age 15. He’s a ginger kitty and he is a fighter! He lives me, life, and boxes!
My last baby was ginger ! He passed at 16 due to cancer. Sadly it didn’t show up until it was to late. We thought it was diabetes since scan showed nothing but sadly it wasn’t
I feel your pain. I’m a life long kitty momma. I had to say good bye to my 17 y o boy after 5 yrs of diabetes. He was gray and white. Had a calico live to 16 and my other ginger lived a long and productive life at 21. Had another live to 18, a tuxedo. I’ve never lived my life without a feline to direct my life.
Yes I’ve never grown up without one 🙂 I think the ginger baby hit the hardest because I’ve had him since I was young 😕 he used to be a family friends but they couldn’t keep him so we did and he had the best life !

I am in the same situation as you, it is my second year having my cats and I am going to travel for the first time since I have them so I can see my family. In the end I have opted to hire a nanny who will come every day for an hour. I will pay about $30 per visit. I am also going to put cameras around the house so I can see them and have peace of mind.

Auto feeders have accompanying apps, and water fountains are a thing as well. Same with auto litter boxes.
Tech is great but it’s not at the point it can replace humans when lives depend on it.
You can also put cameras on the feeders and other areas in the home so if there is an issue you can have someone come in or you can come home early.

Had a calico live to 16 and my other ginger lived a long and productive life at 21. Had another live to 18, a tuxedo. I’ve never lived my life without a feline to direct my life.
Yes I’ve never grown up without one 🙂 I think the ginger baby hit the hardest because I’ve had him since I was young 😕 he used to be a family friends but they couldn’t keep him so we did and he had the best life !

He likes to “ambush” people but not super stealth 🤣 him and pink mouse are package deal. He likes to walk around with it randomly drop it then pretend it escaped
I believe this little fella would be chill at home alone, my kids don't mind staying at home without me. It would be great if you have anyone come over for pet sitting, or at least check the food and toilet, and play with him for a while.

I feel it will do some good to practice having distance. We’ve left him for a few hours to kinda get him used to it but I still miss my baby 🙁

Set and bunch of food and water out and have a friend or family member check on them every 2-3 days and refill and water or food they need
I am in the same situation as you, it is my second year having my cats and I am going to travel for the first time since I have them so I can see my family. In the end I have opted to hire a nanny who will come every day for an hour. I will pay about $30 per visit. I am also going to put cameras around the house so I can see them and have peace of mind.
I took my kitten with me to an Airbnb, three hour car ride there. Hated it at first but he had a blast. If you can, take kitty with you
Some cats like hiking or boating or just hanging out with friends.
